Oh no, not another buttons thread. Oh well, I searched the forum for an answer but dreaded going through the zillion posts ( I only went through a million ). You know that tiny little button at the top of your Diamond that turns the device on an off? Well I would like to be able to use a different button to do that task. If possible I would like to use the back key <-- located on the front of the device to turn my Diamond on and off. Is this possible?

Is there a way to wake the phone from its sleep mode without opening up the keyboard? That's the only way I can figure out.
Thanks!
A quick press of the power button on the side will wake it up.
This is written in the instruction manual.
You should have read that before using the phone.
reaffect power button
is-it possible to use another button instead of the power button in order to power on/off the screen?
Yes - if you disable the setting that stops all the other buttons from waking the device up (to avoid answering calls and making calls etc when its in your pocket).
man that power button is hard to push though. am i the only one who has trouble finding it by touch alone? i was thinking of carving out an indentation in the casing to help my thumb 'find' it, but thought better of it....

what i do is set the keys to lock when the phone is locked then use s2u to serve as the lock. I havent accidently called anyone yet so i think its the quickest way to resolve the issue not to mention i like the way it makes my phone look

I saw someone did a simple mod to make it easier to find. Dont remember where i saw it. if it find it'll post a link.
but what they did was bought a little "nub" from a craft store and glued it to the power button to make it stick out more so it was easier to find. It looked pretty good and probably did help in this situation. I've thought about doing the same.
That said, I essentially did what Neva said in the last post. I use S2U2 (Slide2Unlock2) to lock the phone. And I set my phone to be "awakened" by any key press. And S2U2 is config'd to always run on wakeup. So I can't make a phone call by accident. it works great.
You can set the phone to awaken on any key press by setting here:
Settings | System | Key Lock | Do not lock buttons
Here's the link to the Power Button mod...

Amazing what you can find if you search the forum.
This one's got me stumped, I may just be overlooking a simple answer but it hasn't happened previously on my Magician or Vario before.
I carry my Vario III around in a large coat pocket for most of the time. I have a lot of appointments and calls which activate the screen when they occur. I then have the problem when fishing around for the device that a) I answer the call from touching the screen, b) End the call from touching the screen, c) Open a load of different apps where the appointments have made the screen go live and the movement in the pocket has brushed the screen.
All I want to do is use only the hardware buttons ie. Answer, End, Power button. Where can I find the settings for this? The "key settings" menu or "buttons" doesn't cover it so where is it? It's driving me mad!
Hold down the 'red' phone button to lock all but 'Power' and 'Unlock' soft key.
You can still answer a call as normal when it comes in with the with the 'green' phone key.
Thanks. I know about the standard lock, but then you're into multi key press territory to unlock it. I just wondered if someone knew of a way (or program) that once the screen was off it stayed off until the answer, reject or power button was pressed and then in the case of the power button the device returns to "normal".
I'm not sure if your idea would be very viable. The screen has to come on so that you can see who's calling!
Pretty pointless to reject a call when you don't know who it is.
I understand what you are trying to get at but wouidn't you still have the problem of not being able to use any other functions within a call like looking up a Contact or checking your Calendar. Hitting the Power button during a call to get back to normal use would be a bit 'hit n miss'.
Thanks for the reply. I agree it's not ideal and I guess if it was something everyone wanted someone would have brought a .CAB out for it. That my Q answered in any case. Thanks again.
Try searching the forum for 'S2U2'. It might be what you're looking for.
That should cover it just fine. Thanks for the pointer.
Nice one helterskelter
Didn't think he would want to open it to answer a call thats all as he seems to have big fingers and hit everything but 'Answer'
No, sorry, just my dark humour...
Hope you are sorted.
Hi Everyone. I was hoping someone might be able to help me with something. I'm looking for a way to assign a different key on my AT&T tilt as the power button. Basically I would like to have the end key act as the power button when it is pressed down and held for a few seconds. I've been searching all the Kaiser threads the last couple days. And I've found several threads that start to mention the topic, but I'm still not clear on it. The best solution looked to be AE button plus...but then I saw in another thread that it doesn't work for the power button. So, if this kind of question has already been answered, I apologize...I just couldn't find it.
So, can anyone either push me in the right direction, or give me some pointers on the best way to search for this info on the site? I really appreciate it.
Thanks!!!
The power key is connected directly to the mainboard so as far as i'm aware there is no way to assign a different button to power.
However there may be a way to assign the end call key to turn the phone off only, but it wouldn't be able to turn it back on unless you use the power key.
I'll have a look now.
AE Button Plus would work for turning it off, it does have that option. However, you would still need to use the regular power button to turn it back on.
Hello Everyone,
I have a BA and I want to flash it but the power button dose not work..opened it up and found that the mechanism under the button has dropped and hanging on by a thread. The device works but I need the power button to get into bootloader mode.
So the question is this: is there a way to get into bootloader without using the powerbutton?

First, some advice. Several people have asked this question and it has been responded to in other threads. On forums, ALWAYS try and use the search function before asking. It might save you some time, and it also may give you further ideas or solutions to the problem. Now on to the response I gave someone else last year. Read the whole post.
IT IS POSSIBLE!
BUT DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGED OR FRIED PDAs
I know because I myself have done it on an I-mate (Himalaya). It took some trial and error but I am now running WM6. In my case though, I had to completely remove the power button from the device. The previous owner dropped it on its head, and I got it for free, unfortunately most of the top is missing, including the power button.
SO, on to how I did it. I took a paper clip (metal) and put it about 1cm down, slightly to the right of where the power button used to connect to the motherboard. Make sure you have turned your XDA/IMATE on before doing this. You'll find that when you find the right area, your device will turn off, or the screen will go dark (like holding the power button for a second or giving it a quick tap).
If you manage to hold it there for the right period of time, while pressing the other bootloader buttons, then you will be able to enter bootloader.
This took me close to an hour to get just right, on both occasions I have done it, but it eventually worked.
Note: I have no idea how exactly this worked, but it did. My IMATE was useless without me updating the rom, so I had no worry about frying it if I did something wrong, that is why I was OK with playing around with its insides. BEWARE that you MAY DO DAMAGE to the device.
Good luck.
If you have no clue just don't post!!
First off I have searched here and the internet as a whole and your suggestion didn't work! I have taken apart and modified to add a camera to my working BA ( yeah I got 3 of them) so "..playing around with its insides. BEWARE that you MAY DO DAMAGE to the device.." is no worry of mine. Second off, if you had taken notice I have been on this board since Feb 2007 and I have only had to ask 3 questions, which means my searching skills might just be working on some level.
Maybe I should have been more specific: is there a software boot loader for the sx66?

I lifted this directly form another site I have subscribed to

Hi all, please can you help me with this!?
Firstly when my phone boots or is taken out of sleep mode it immediately activates voice record as if this button has been pressed. It then opens the dialler and types ‘EDFC’. If I open pocket word and then wake the phone up it also types ‘EDFC’ before doing the above.
My keyboard is not working and the only hardware buttons that function are the power button (only for a while), the camera button and the silver select button in the middle of the d-pad. The jog wheel and silver directional d-pad buttons occasionally come to life. The others don’t work (green call and red end buttons, ok, windows etc).
When I use the standard keyboard SIP on the screen the directional buttons and delete do not function?!
I’ve reverted to a stock ROM to make sure this isn’t the problem.
It appears as though my Kaiser thinks these buttons are being depressed, but I’ve checked them and they click normally and release when pressed (even though they don’t perform a function) so nothing is stuck down etc….
I’m going to use AE Buttons to try and unhinge the button functions for now, but it would be great if someone has any suggestions!!
Thanks in advance.
Update - AE Button won't unhinge the buttons or change their function to anything else (e.g. nothing). I can't stop this from happening every time the phone boots/wakes up!
Help!
Mine got the same symptoms last week except it opens quick something or other, and then the dialler dials 2547.The screen for my pin then comes up,which I can enter normally.Home screen fires up normally but the keyboard will not work or any buttons except the silver one in the middle.Searched a bit and this problem is very common although I cannot find a solution anywhere. Can someone please help
AE button didn't work?
When mine did that, I reset all the hardware buttons (not the keyboard, just the buttons reachable from the outside. A soft reset and viola!
That's the only solution I have. It's worked for me 2x.
Also try pulling the battery for 20 seconds or so and restarting. That has fixed my touchscreen not working after it gets spashed 3x. Yeah, my phone is old and abused, but keeps working.

Thanks for your replies - I've got Orange sending me another one in the morning now and sods law it's just stopped happening.... Taking the replacement anyway in case it happens again.
For my knowledge, how did you reset the buttons? I deleted some registry keys to completely stop them working (although I couldn't find the registry keys for the red and green buttons).
Searching on Google there are quite a few reports of this, but no one has ever posted the cause!
I am having the same problem... please help. My phone is going crazy. I did a hard reset but still didnt solve the problem....
I am also having this issue. Phone starts typing EDFC and then initiates the voice recorder. I reflashed various ROMs and regardless of what was flashed.. initially they appeared okay, then it started happening again. I also tried hard and soft resets. Nothng has worked so far.
I resorted to disabling the keys and some of the applications which I dont use which appear to be getting started/run (Voice recorder for one). So far I havent had the issue, knock on wood.
I think this is more than likely a hardware error. My tilt is actually pretty old so I wouldnt be surprised. If someone finds either the cause or a workable solution please post. Im trying to hold off until January when my contact expires to get a new HTC.
I searched and searched but found no solution for this and ended up getting the phone replaced.
HTC seemed to know nothing of such a problem....
Have you tried whacking it?!!?
Hope you get it sorted.

Hmm, yes, but I don't see how that helped my phone.
lol, all jokes aside, my friends, I ask in this thread as well,
what is causing this problem? I ran into this issue after ALL my buttons stopped working (except for the power).
I installed a new rom (I forget which one), and still nothing works except for power button.
It would be even better if someone knows the solution!
-Calling for Help-I'm still convinced it is a software/registry problem...
Okay, so there's no solution available for this weird problem of ours.
On the bright side, however, it is amazing that we can still use the phone, even after it requires servicing (some way or another). I have accepted this handicap that has been placed on my phone for now, simply hoping it will grow out of it one day.
But something isn't right. When I looked in the registry (trying to follow some directions I found within the wiki for when your keyboard STILL doesn't work properly), there was a discrepancy between what was supposed to be found in the registry and what was actually there. It wasn't that the values were wrong, it was the names of the values that were different. Why could this be?
Or even if you have moment of time, and you have an AT&T Tilt, and it works perfectly, maybe you could write up a run down of what you have hanging around in that section of the registry?
Hey, just so I can be sure, is there some place I can cross check what I have in my HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP with what is supposed to be there in a fully functioning AT&T Tilt?
