Here are some Fender Guitar wallpapers along with splash images that can be flashed to any G1/Mt3g-I would recommend using BSF3000, so I have included it with this post. You can use fastboot commands to flash the image, but the createflash.exe is critical, as a flash image has to be exactly 300kb in size.- chris

well ive been trying to customize every little thing on my g1 to get the procedures down before i go and start programming for android, and ive been trying to find out how to change the bootsplash and all my searches have come up with is mixed results and so far i think ive pieced together the procedure for the abd method; but someone mentioned that you could change the bootsplash using a recovery mode update.zip, what would i need to do it and how? Because i really hate abd and fastboot (i blame ubuntu) because it a big pain in the ass.
You can change the animated (shiny android) screen with an update.zip. You cannot change the splash1 screen with an update. That one has to be done with fastboot.

How to which? Splash1 can be changed by using the bootscreen changer program listed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=543095&highlight=bootscreen+3000
The animated screen can be changed by opening either your theme or your ROM and locating the framework.res.apk file. Open that and go to assets and then images and change the android-logo-mask and the android-logo-shine to what you want. resign it and flash. or push it with adb.
A search will bring all of this information up as these posts have been active in the past day or so.

question 1 will i need to have abd for it to work? (the exe and bat thing)
question 2 is just extract the apk change android-logo-mask and android-logo-shine (with a different picture but the same name)? and is logo mask boot 1 and logo shine boot 2? and this is done with out abd?
1. You will need adb for the splash1 change as it is done with fastboot.
2. Yes, change the logo mask and shine files keeping them named as they are now. They are for the animated screen. The mask basically sits on top of the shine file. The shine file kinda spins around behind it.

so could i just delete shine? because i just plan to have just a png picture thats it or do i have to put 2 of the same images there?
(sorry for all the questions i just it to work)
Not sure about deleting it. However if you have no transparent places on your logo mask, nothing will shine anyhow.
Thanks for clearing that up for me
This is from the G1 forum found here though it works with the myTouch 3G Slide as well credit goes to aron4588
Download the attached .zip and extract the contents of the zip file somewhere convenient.
Find that directory in Windows Explorer, go into the "create" folder and run "CreateG1Splash.exe"
Open the splash.png file you wanted and click "convert" (note:image must be 320x480)
The file mysplash.rgb565 file should be in the same "create" folder, if not it might be in the same folder as your original image, for simplicity copy it into the "fastboot" folder (the other one that was in the zip)
boot into fastboot and enter these commands:
$ fastboot flash splash1 mysplash.rgb565
$ fastboot reboot
There you go you now have the custom splash1 image of your choosing.
ONCE AGAIN I DID NOT IN ANYWAY MAKE THIS TOOL ALL CREDIT GOES TO THE DEV.
Thx for this. Made one of my wedding pics my splash

=== nbimg v1.1
=== Convert NB <--> BMP splash screens
=== (c)2008 Pau Oliva - pof @ xda-developers
Usage: nbimg -F file.[nb|bmp]
thanks andy...i think thats the tool am using...
you need a good tool to crop any image in a desired px i.e 480/800
once u crop it, you can apply the image with the converter to get the nbh.
i use multiple cropping tools for compression.

I'm trying to flash a custom boot. I updated to the new firmware and installed OMJ's rom, and tried to flash my old boot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2357926. That didn't work, so I looked to see if the name of the boot animation zip in CID was different, which it was. It's now m7_spcs_startup_animation.zip. Can I just change the name of my zip package and it will replace this? Or does a whole new zip need to be made to flash to that location.?
Correct, a new flashable will need to be made. Butyou can get the non flashable zip and copy paste after changing the name. You just have to rename it to match exactly to the one that is booting currently, and it should boot the new animation. I always just copy paste/overwrite in root explorer. System/customize/resource. That way you can rename the old one in case. Because flashing erases the current ani

hey..so..uhmmm...awesome work, but how can I change the image and have my own custom boot logo?
I tried changing the image using winrar, but it complained that it cant modify .bin files, so i created a zip file and moved bin files from it to there then changed the extension to .bin, but it didn't work when I flashed it. Can you give me tip on how to achieve this?
