Hi
Is there any Topaz ROM that does not have any of these sms bugs/problems:
1. Slowing down to a crawl while writing a long sms;
2. While writing an sms having words combine because the space bar just doesnt register or the keyboard is too laggy;
3. While writing an sms having the cursor return to the start of the message or at another line during writing a message;
4. Not being able to view, or losing the view window, when writing an sms resulting in having to re-tap the view/text writing window once or twice to see what is being written.
I have said this many times HTC messaging IS ATROCIOUS and these bugs make it downright annoying and unfunctional.
Is there any chef who has cooked with the latest 2.5 ROMS (as at Feb 2010) that has somehow fixed these problems or does HTC Messaging remain a crap app?
An annoyed Aussie
PS I have applied all the HTC SMS fix, Zenee's fix but to no avail.
it is getting better, but a perfect htc messaging is a farcry....hopeless.
btw the so-called hotfix is also useless.
Not Just Me
Thanks
At least it's not just me with these problems.
Can anyone provide us with an email address to someone of worth at HTC? I would love to let them in on these problems.
Cheers

you can always google, not that will be of any help, I suspect.
ppl here said anything about (1)htc messaging is not intended to accommodate large number of texts, and/or (2)htc messaging is designed for Sense 2.1, not Sense 2.5
well, somebody somewhere is doing something about it, just have to be patient.
I believe you meant to say that htc messaging is designed for 2.5 not 2.1
It is also designed for snapdragon 1ghz processor. our processors cannot act as fast and therefore htc messaging is EXTRA slow

thanks for the correction.
however come to think of it, htc messaging on 2.1 is superb.
oh well.
When I use HTC messaging to create a new sms, and when I press Ok or Send,
the message will be send out, but the screen will hung....
Any other functions are OK but I can't use htc messaging anymore...still the same screen...
anybody can help?
Yeah, just disable the program, search 'zenyee disable' or 'disable htc messaging'.
Only one bug in recent ROMs that uses manila 2.5.1922 or 2.5.2010: the unread bubble doesn't dissapear after reading the message. If you don't mind not seeing the bubble at all (you have the notification icon in top-bar) this can be resolved by removing the 'sms patch.exe' from windows/start up/ directory (after installing the cab from the thread i pointed you at).
Oh and did I tell you that when used on manila 2.5.2010 the patch reverts to manila 2.1 sms messaging style?
I hope this thread becomes well known in the community for the solution to this catastrophic issue. I experience all the above mentioned problems and more, htc sense 2.5 msging is just unusable.
somebody just posted and claimed that he/she just ended the calamity surrounding htc messaging by installing the IME (touch input method or something).
I've got the same... I tried Leo IV, Prime I, new roms from NhatHoa, bysio and still big problems with sms... Now on NhatHoa I can't send sms, its still in outbox, SR doesn't help. New manila is faster than previous but msg app is just terrible. I'm going back to TESS III and Im waiting for fix for msg app

it's got nothng to do with the ROM, like I said. It's just the HTC Messaging on Sense 2.5 is kinda pushing it on a Topaz. You can always install Zenyee's cab to disable htc messaging, and then there's this UI to mimic a more decent cosmetic by Astronout.
Yes, I know that, I meen that new roms which are based on manila 2011 got this crappy htc messaging, so that's not working for me... Or maybe I just got something wrong Meanwhile when TESS Leo III is downloading, I try this cab, thanks
EDIT: now is working like a charm, even manila seems to be faster Thanks again So I hold on for now with reflashing

hi all, when you cook a rom, just include IME_Tutorial_1_0_19222525_0 and a touch input(such as IME_CHS_2_1_19203826_00), then HTC messaging will be OK and works fine.

I personally can confirm this using Tess prime I and if you disable HTC messaging then you'll get the old messaging from 2.1 but with a little side effects such as the notification bubble in messaging tab will not disappear sometimes it won't rarely it will also time stamps might be off as well but it does work and fast at that

I thought someone mentioned it in Our Sexai Energy Rom Cult, so if anyone comes across it please let me know!

I don't know the manila file number, but it will be in one of the lua scripts for messaging tab. Most likely it is in one of the embedded scripts of the messaging mode9 file, but could be one of the standalone scripts.

Sorry for the bump... but could someone point out to me where this is? I've been looking for a way to change the Press Tab Function of the Messages tab to go back to the default WinMo threaded SMS function for a while now. Using Rhodium Manila 2.1
I've been using this forever. It doesn't work in the Sense 2.5 but works great for Sense 2.1. Just unzip and copy the manila file into your Windows folder and restart.

Thankyou just a shame it positions landscape sms to the left instead of centralized, will have to find out if can be corrected? Mineute graphic problem would just be nice to have it pukka but way better than the manila sms interface to which didn't capatalize start or after . also very minute reply space.

how can i make my messaging program ALWAYS LOOK like this?
ok im running energy rom 26 feb 2010 21892 and am very happy with it. i have recently found this certain messaging bubble conversation style "look" on my phone. i would like my phone to always OPEN with this look. can ANYONE help me find the setting or possibly use a cab to enable this style of messaging PERMANENTLY?
take a look at the uploaded pic...
I too am on Energy Rom Feb26, how do you get that mode up?
I'm trying to fix the messaging tab at the moment, since I hate that it uses MS messaging from "All Messages", the new message icon and the menu options but HTC messaging from everywhere else. At the moment I'm try to get it to use HTC messaging since the contact lookup as you type appears to be better.
It looks like that is a MS messaging feature, threaded messaging, I can't get it up on mine at all.
You can customise it using the following:
http://www.reinout.info/xda/
Looking at my current style sheets it is in my rom, but it's not using it (hence my MS messaging looks shockingly wm5)
Ahh, this message tab is annoying me, read 101 ways to disable HTC messaging but NOT how to get HTC to link correctly from the message tab.
As for disabling HTC and putting MS messaging, try searching for "Zenyee Disable HTC Messaging 1.2"
I'm currently using EnergyROM Genesis manila 2.5 and I'm having some problems with sms. After sliding out the keyboard in the sms tab, the screen freezes and the phone is unresponsive. I had to remove the battery to restart the phone. This doesn't happen all the time, just randomly, but eventually it'll freeze. Does anybody have this problem with other roms? Someone please confirm if this is a rom issue or manila 2.5 bugs. If anyone have a fix for this, please post it here. Thanks in advanced.
2.5 is alpha. if you don't like it, downgrade to 2.1 or wait for official release

I understand that but I haven't seen anyone having the same issues so I was checking to see if anyone have this problem. If it's a rom issue then I can easily change rom but if it's manila's 2.5 bugs then i'll just wait for the official release.
Would it be possible to use windows SMS instead of manila's sms?
SMS Manila 2.5/2.6
in sms tab, click all messages> settings> traditional mode and you'll get all traditional WM sms folders and working, though on slower end, but comparing the eye candy u get from Manila 2.5/2.6, it is worth.

I LOVE the new Manila 2.5 i think its a step in the right direction but theres a problem.
The messaging application with it is riddled with bugs i am persistently having to soft-reset in order to sort it out. At the moment im working around problems by always creating a new SMS when i need to send them but its extremely awkward.
So heres the question, is it possible to cook a ROM with the standard WinMo messaging application instead of the new Manila 2.5 one?
Can i get a show of support and if its possible maybe we can see some/a Manila 2.5 ROM with standard WinMo messaging app.
P.S. If im cluttering up this forum and this should be somewhere else move it/lock it and tell me
I never tried it. But I think they might be dependent on each other.
I am by no means a chef and dont know much about that side of things but i would think it was possible.
If they are dependent on each other, then no. Unless we use a patched version of 2.5, but then the functionality wont be the same.
I do not think they need each other to work. HTC Message works well with no TF3D or TF3D2.1 so I am guessing arcsoft will work with 2.5
I have not had a chance to try it yet but it is on my list so I will soon.
There is already a solution for this ...
I use the Energy Rom Genesis with 2.5 Manila WM 6.5
After that I followed this little tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556614&page=1
I SMS trough the WM SMS function, without using the HTC software for it...
in my opinion , the one and only one downside of whole manila 2.5 is its messaging app..i dont understand why its so buggy..i have seen htc messaging in manila 2.1 quite good and effective..no reason why htc has changed a stable messaging version to a buggy one...
hey guys any fix would be sooo welcome....
you do know that significant fixes/improvements will have to come from HTC and not the cooks. also, keep in mind that manila 2.5 has been designed to work with the HD2's faster processor and not the slower HD processor.
i'll venture further saying that the chefs DO NOT HAVE THE SOURCE CODE to manila or windows mobile for what it matters. they can do some tweaking some conf changes etc but cannot rewrite the software
Buy a Leo and everything will work fine. It was never designed for Blackstone. It's not slow...our devices are slow!!!
windows mobile is slow....the hardware is fast enough for a bunch of things. dont take me wrong here i like winmobo but the "genious" in microsoft dont care much about user experience...hope win7 fix some of our issues.

I second this, Look at the newer releases and you will notice changes to the stability of the messaging app. Yes it still a bit slow, have you seen the iPhone load a decent conversation history? Slow messaging app when theres more than 100 sms, thats why they needed the 3GS. A little lag isn't too bad considering the Leo's specs.
HTC Messaging looks cool but is useless when you use programs that send SMS with it. It simply will not work. The program needs to be updated to HTC standard. But isn't HTC ought to folllow WM standard? By creating imncompatiblity of not using Standrd, HTC will create a floodgate of problems in the years to come.
honestly, if they could use Manilla 2.5 with the Manila 2.1 messaging, it would be fine
i love everything about 2.5..it's just the messaging. unfortunately...that's a big problem with no fix =[. for now, WinMo messaging is fine =]
love the new calendar, the new buttons, etc..much more friendly

Yes, It has already broken many anti-theft software like Remote Tracker and Sprite Terminator which intercept incoming SMS.
They work fine on M2.1's HTC messaging, but not with M2.5.

I hope that this remark is very old, because you need to read the LEO forum. The problem is also on a new LEO device! Disabling HTC messaging gives you the old M$ outlook back, but it removes functionality in contacts, clicking on "send message" doesn't take you to SMS! I hope somebody can make a solution for this.
theres one thing I dont understand
When you click in manila at "All messages" in TF3D2.5, then we come in the new HTC styled SMS overview.
I don't understand why the kinetic scrolling of this SMS overview is such unfunktional:
When you slide fast with your finger, it scrolls fast, smooth and normal.
But when you slide slow, it scrolls very strange...
Its very smooth and all, but its very strange... so slow...
But not slow in case of too weak hardware. Like issue in kinetic scrolling software.
I think the only problem of TF3D 2.5 is, that we need a file out of a Leo dump that we don't have.
Because the effects alone are not such special that we need Leo hardware.
Which API does TF3D 2.5 use? OpenGL, .NET?
pim.vol file caching experiment for performance improvement
guys, correct me if I'm wrong here.
the SMS Messages are stored in pim.vol file (not exactly sure what's the corresponding MMS Messages file) located at the root directory. It is excluded from being cached by fsreplxfilt.dll (File Replication for Persistent Storage) StorageManager filter.
What if pim.vol is being cached, will it improve HTC Messaging performance?
This modification however, must be cooked into XIP (with modified boot.rgu / boot.hv) for full effect, even though the registry is here:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt]
"NumDirsToExclude"=dword:d
"DirsToExclude"=multi_sz: "\\mxip_initdb.vol",
"\\mxip_system.vol",
"\\mxip_notify.vol",
"\\mxip_lang.vol",
"\\cemail.vol",
[B]"\\pim.vol",[/B]
"\\Documents and Settings\\",
"\\Program Files\\",
"\\Windows\\",
"\\Application Data\\",
"\\ConnMgr\\",
"\\mxip_swmgmt.vol",
"\\Temp\\"
Have anyone / any chef willing to try to cook a ROM and Not Exclude pim.vol to be cached and see if that improves the performance? Although there might be side effect such as loss of data, but it may help to improve HTC Messaging performance?

doesn't matter if my comment is old/new. i still believe fixes/enhancements will still have to come from HTC. it's unfortunate that HD2 owners are suffering the same poor performance. it's my hope that performance will be improved by the time the HD2 makes it to the USA. (ok, so i'm dreaming, lol).

you'll notice that the WM outlook is only loading about 5-10 messages before you have to click "older" or "newer" instead of loading all the messages like how Sense 2.5 is trying to do. I believe that the windows way of doing it is better, but once again, that's something that HTC has to do.

I suggest that you read the Leo forum and you will see that these users are also complaining about the slow speed of HTC Messaging. It is not about the hardware, it is about the software!

I agree with the above, if I keep my stored message below a 20-30 limit on the device for each contact I have absolutely no problem with the messaging speed, it's as quick as I need it to be.
All my messages are synced to MS MyPhone, so if I need anything i've previously deleted from the device, I can login and go to the archive section and find it or search for it if I don't remember when it was.
I don't see the need for people to store 100's of messages on there device now, when the MyPhone service works perfectly. (i get that people don't have a data connection etc, but if you've forked out for this phone then why not!).
The device does become unbearable if you have more than a few hundred messages, I restored 2000 messages to the device and it became sluggish, this is clearly visible by the scroll bar on the right (when you load a contacts conversation). If you watch the scroll bar, it will get smaller and smaller the more messages it loads, during the loading process with hundreds of messages it is virtually impossible to use the device as it stutters and jumps around until it finishes loading the messages, which it does everytime you load that contact, regardless of if you've been into them before or not. Therefore by keeping your active messages on your device to a minimum you have a speedy and lovely interface to use.
I'm currently using the Energy 28004 rom, but i've been using the above method since Miri first started with the Touch Friendly branch of WinMo and MS released MyPhone and it's worked perfectly.

Yes. It is exactly what I meant.
More, I'm not talking about browsing single SMS thread. I usually communicate via SMS with about 20 people. HTC messaging dies when browsing this list - the list contains only a few people list and the last message for each of them. I really cannot understand what makes it too hard to show.
Unfortunately thats not been my experience although everyone is different or we wouldn't be here . The first screen which lists your messages is fairly quick to load once i've loaded it once. I do add it to exclusive so it doesn't close though, so it only loads once at the start. If i kill the task and start it up again it does go slow, but other than that it does appear to be fine.
I currently have 10 threads each with about 100 messages in total and i've just tested and it takes about 2 seconds to populate from first load (messaging ended via task manager) and then it's less than a second each time i load it up after that.
Are you storing your contact pictures on a storage card? (shouldn't really affect the speed as i'd guess your SD card is pretty fast). But it could be contributing if you have contact pictures. For reference mine are on the storage card.
What rom are you using? i'd suggest giving the energy rom a try if you haven't and see what you think as it is definitely the quickest i've used.
Guys,
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5024178&postcount=389
a Manila mod to "limit" the number of messages to display on a page, based on the older HTC Messaging Client as was in Manila 2.1. That's exactly what you all wish for?
Is it possible to create a ROM that contains most of Manila 2.5, but has the HTC Messaging from Manila 2.1?
I like Manila 2.5, but I'm not impressed that HTC has decided to intercept all text messages, and their method doesn't allow other apps (like Remote Tracker) to intercept any..
Disabling 2.5 messaging in 2.5 ROMs doesn't resolve this issue, but maybe that's because the current methods to disable the 2.5 messaging do not address the actual issue of message interception..
Anyone think they can tackle this? The new messaging system has other issues that many people don't like.. (Slowness...) Sure it looks good, but visual appeal can't override the actual ability to function... (or break other features..)

Anyone think they can tackle this? The new messaging system has other issues that many people don't like.. (Slowness...) Sure it looks good, but visual appeal can't override the actual ability to function... (or break other features..)

I know, I'm also using that...
But for some people nothing works or is good enough.

Did not work for me on latest Shadowline ROM..
As far as I have seen, it doesn't resolve the issue.. It removes HTC Messaging out of the picture just fine, but doesn't fix it to allow other apps to intercept text messages.
Unfortunately, I don't plan on using the ROMs for which it claims to be useful...

My words are even not cold...
Well.. If HTC didn't hijack all the text messages with the new 2.5 messaging, this wouldn't be an issue..
I don't dislike any of the work ROM developers have done.. (Any of them.. Excellent job, guys!) But most of the ROMs are not what I'm looking for.. (Too bloated mostly) but they build their ROMs the way they want them..
The problem is not the ROMs or the chefs.. It's HTC, for breaking a feature of Windows Mobile by hijacking the messaging service instead of using what was already in Windows Mobile, and breaking other apps that rely on the ability to intercept text messages in the process.

And a rom without Manila? Maybe that's something for you...

Manila 2.1 messaging does not hijack the text messages..
And the only Titanium ROM I liked had HTC Messaging from Manila 2.5 in it.. Go figure.

Looking forward to that.
Sense 2.5 simple was not meant for the TD2. I actually cant believe chefs are cooking this into there roms because without SMS functioning as it should im dead in the water and so are many others. I wait sometimes 15 to 20 seconds before i can actually type something when I open a conversation. Without the functionality cell phones were meant to deliver I might as well buy an iPhone.
Unfortunately M2.1 is getting phased out which makes absolutely no sense but thats the mobile world were living in. Honestly I wish there was a line being drawn where functionality wasn't sacrificed to bleeding edge. Hate to say this but my most stable rom thus far has been the stock AT&T ROM which I can t get back

I have totaly no probs with messaging. HTC-messaging is disabled with the cab we all know. I send and receive sms like in the "old" roms...
And if you don't feel the need to keep 100's or even 1000's messages, it works perfect. Be honnest... what can you do with all the old messages?
I will give it a go later when im off work. Do you have any bugs from that cab?

No, does what it has to do, nothing more, nothing less...
Can you get apps like Remote Tracker and Visual Voicemail working? I'll find links for you if you'd like.. Both of these apps rely on the ability to intercept incoming text messages.
