Question about X2 on Amazon: X2a or X2i? - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I was looking foward to replace my X1a for a X2a.
My question: Is this a X2a or X2i?
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Smartpho...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1265734518&sr=8-1
Cheers.

"Supports GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900"
I think the 850Mhz band support would mean it's X2a as only USA use that band as far as I know

it could be an x2i as well. these are just the gsm-bands, which almost every phone supports. (it's called "quadband")
they differ in the supported 3g-bands: i-version = 900+2100, the a-version would support 1700 for 3g (and i think 900 as 3g as well).
another thing:
the X1a was somehow limited in video-recording compared to the X1i, the reason being some patent-restrictions in the US. i think it had something to do with limited video-framerate. but that's not stated either. (using the same qualcomm-cpu it should be the same for the X2)
so, you can't tell from the info on amazon. ask the shop to be sure?

I'm pretty sure the X2a has been released yet, so my guess is X2i. The bands are the gsm bands as mentioned above, so they don't tell you which it is. Additionally, like with the X1, I wouldn't be suprised if most just called the european version the X2, and only differentiated when actually mentioning the american "a" version.

Any news on tri-band UMTS Diamond?

I am dreaming of getting the one which supports UMTS 850/1900/2100 bands.
Any news?
Nobody know it? So sad...
There is no such thing as a tri-band UMTS Diamond, all are just dual band. 850/1900 for the US Version, 850/2100 for the Australia version, and 900/2100 for the European version.
I thought I read somewhere that there is an Australian version of the Touch Diamond 120 (100 for Europe/Asia, 110 for NAM) that supports dual-band UMTS 850/2100, which should let 3G work on any continent. If someone actually has this model or can confirm, that would be great.
EDIT: Whoops, guess the guy above me posted a little faster Anyone know if an online retailer has the AUS model on sale?
Well it wouldn't work in any place that requires 900, it also wouldn't work on AT&T in certain 1900-only 3G zones. I don't know what market uses what frequency for AT&T, so I really couldn't tell you if your area will work with the 850/2100 Diamond or not.
Edit: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HTC-Touch-Di...yZ161651QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Go to ebay.com.au and search... 650 AUD = 544 USD, for perspective
I'm assuming that's the Australian version... But PM every seller before buying to confirm
in my diam100 with italian official rom I have this:
is it normal?
Yessuh, all Diamonds have it, but it doesn't work. It doesn't reflect the hardware in the device at all, standard to all devices.

Looking to swap US diamond for Eur diamond.

Exactly like the title says I have a US 3g diamond and unfortunately have t-mobile so I need a euro model anyone wanna swap??
Oh god!!
and i need a US because i have the euro model but....i live in Argentina!!!!
Im in Florida and t-mobile runs 1700/2100 for 3g here not 850/1900 like ATT.
JFYI the T-mobile 3G is NOT compatible with Diamond, because either version lacks the 1700mhz required to upstream. Is a well reported issue. Those bands are not available.

2nd... I don't understand why everyone assumes it works on 3G with T-Mobile, aren't half of the posts in this forum about how the Diamond works on no US 3G at all?

hmmm interesting I was under the impression the euro model supported the 1700/2100 that t-mobile requires in the US. I know the 850/1900 works great for 3g on ATT in the states.

Can I flash a X1a ROM on X1i phone?

Can I flash my X1i with a X1a ROM?
I have an UK phone and I am trying to make the 3G working in Brazil which operator uses GSM 1800 & UMTS 850.
Thanks for the help in advance!
wcrov
Sure not a problem. dont forget hard spl
Yes you can flash it
But you can't enable or disable other band than the ones in the manual specification....

Thanks for your reply!
So, you are saying that after flashing I'll be able to use X1a's band only? Please clarify...
I know that the X1i comes with:
GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100+900)
GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)
So, according to the bands above, the X1 is able to connect in FOUR GSM bands and FOUR UMTS bands, but unfortunately has only two combinations (the ones above) for X1i...
For my X1i's 3G network to work in Brazil, I need to use a combination like 1800's GSM band & 850's UMTS band.
Please correct me if I am wrong... thanks!
wcrov
yes you can flash an x1a rom.
however, IT ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT THE 3G BANDS.
it's a hardware issue. the x1i is ONLY capable of 900, 1900, and 2100. changing the rom will NOT change this.

Sorry, but that doesn't make sense... why my X1i shows FOUR bands for GSM and FOUR bands for UMTS?
GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100+900)
GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)
Looks like the X1i is 850 capable but only on 1900 GSM networks...
So it must have a way to combine the GSM(1800) with UMTS(850)...just wondering...
it doesn't have to make sense. that's just how it is.
why don't things fall up instead of falling down?
i don't know, that's just how it is.
you're on a pointless endeavor, my friend. people have tried.

if we just think this way, we never would have the hardSPL, cooked ROMs, etc...

Maybe the RIGHT people haven't tried yet...
I am not convinced yet... I still believin that might have a way to combine GSM(1800) & UMTS(850) on a X1i...
Please someone show me technical sources to proof that I am wrong!!!

Newton is mad now!

is the USA 3g band going to be a software or hardware update?

My understanding is that there are people who have the TP2 activated here in the US...
but 3g doesn't work since it uses a different band in EU
so...the million dollar question...
is this hardware or software issue and eventually fixable with a rom upgrade in the future?
thanks for your input

Since the hardware is very much like the Raphael hardware I would guess that the correct hardware needs to be in place for US 3G. I hope I am wrong since I have a euro version TP2 here in the states.
yeah...its looking like hardware...
It is a hardware thing. They are on different bands (Quad band and tri-band).

I dont think it is even bands...my TP2 is quad band I believe and can not get 3G with AT&T.
Bands for my phone Quad Band 850/900/1800/1900
yah plenty of US ppl have them but the euro models only have 3g on 2100mhz (basically wifi???)
usa 3g is on different band...
the quad bands are for phone use (i think...but i'm a noob)
att 3g is 850.1900 tibble is 1700 and telstra is 850/1900
so if i understand it right...to gain 3g on different band besides 2100 (wifi/eu) you are looking at hardware

forgive my crude interpretation
some of it is sticking though...lol
If you purchased a quadband unlocked TP2, you will never be able to get US 3G on it unless you can get the hardware modified (which in all likelihood, you can't).
If you have a TP2 with triband then it will either support AT&T (850/1900/2100) or T-mobile USA (850/1700/2100). A phone model will probably not come out that supports both T-mobile and AT&T 3G frequencies. This would require a quadband phone with (850/1700/1900/2100). A phone with all four of those frequencies has never been made.
EDGE will work on almost all carriers, world-wide, on a quadband phone EDGE will work on most carriers world-wide on a triband phone.
850 is mostly used for EDGE (both up and downlink). 1700/1900 are commonly used for uplink 3G. 2100 is commonly used for downlink 3G.
I hope that this clears things up.
As mentioned above, internal hardware is almost identical as the Raphael.
This thread gathered the most information for 3G Raphael in the US.

So probably hardware and no go although LTxda mentioned bricking his Raphael trying to get 3G working with Elite's team and cmonex, so maybe she as something to add !? =Þ

Initial Launch N1 (TMo) in Japan. 3G?

I bought my N1 the first week it came out (which means it's the T-Mobile version, right?). I've been using it here in Thailand since then.
If I were to move to Japan, would I be compatible with their 3g networks?
And if so, is anybody familiar with service and approx. pricing, so I can know what to look forward to?
Thanks.
According to this list it might, but they don't seem to have standardized around 2100 MHz like most other parts of the world (except the US) so it may very well not work.
