Phone suddenly stopped working - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I have a standard TYTNII running WM6.1 and it's been working brilliantly for a couple of years (apart from the TomTom slooooooooow startup), however in the last couple of weeks it has started missing phonecalls and taking ages for texts to arrive. Can you advise if there is an easy fix for this sort of behaviour. I was planning to hard reset and reload all my programs from scratch, but I was wondering if a different radio would help - I have done a search and read the WIKI, but can't seem to find an answer.

You should go for changing the radio first, if that doesn't work...hard reset your device.

I've always found that a new rom does wonders for my Tilt, so i would suggest you experiment with a couple of roms and see what works best!!
Good luck

Thanks for the advice, guys. I'ce done a hard reset and reinstalled all my stuff again. I can pretty much rule out any software causing the issue as I have very little installed apart from a few SPB programs and a couple of other things, but these have all been on since the start (2 years). I still have the same issue - calls sometimes get through, sometimes not and texts take anywhere from a few seconds to several hours to get through (both sending and receiving). It almost seems as if the phone isn't seeing the network properly. I'm on Virgin Mobile UK, by the way.

I Can't Connect my Tilt...HELP!!

I've searched for an answer in these forums and can't find one. I have tried some suggestions from here to no avail. Well...here's the problem. I've had my Tilt for a couple of months. All has been great and i love it...up until now.
I've put several roms on it and they've all worked fine. Got that down...I thought. I can't get activesync to see the tilt on any of my computers. It won't find it on the laptop I've been using to load. My desktop at work, that I've been using sometimes to load it, won't see it and it won't even connect on a new computer in my office with fresh ASync 4.5. Like I said....it has been working fine I just decided today to load a new Dutty rom and I can't even hook up. Wow....this is so aggravating. I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Activesync is still on the tilt too. I've killed the program in taskmgr. I've stopped all running apps in the tilt. I have 2 different cables also. By the way....I don't care to wipe it clean...if I need to. Any suggestions as to what I can do? If anyone's got any clues to what my problem could be I would be eternally grateful. Thanks in advance for responses.
Desparate!
Please help me....if you can. I know there's a tremendous amount of knowledge here. Surely someone's been through this same problem and was able to fix it. I've seen another post similar to this and he's not getting an answer to his problem either. If I we need to contact HTC....please recommend that. Some of you "tilt masters" please respond. Thanks in advance.
Also I had a similar problem and i had installed a blackberry program on my tilt. That created a connection problem between my tilt and the sync program and it couldnt see my tilt. I figured out that the blackberry desktop program thought it had dibs on my tilt because the bb was on my tilt. I removed the BB off my tilt it did a hard reset and then proceeded to manually remove every windows mobile device partnership there were many. Rebooted my computer and tried it again and it worked. You could try a hard reset and then and then use system restore to a few days before you had the problem and see if you can trick it.
I had this problem.
Hard-Reset fixed it
Thanks for the replies....I've tried the hard reset twice and that didn't work either. Have been on the phone with HTC support and we did several things. Still not working. He was supposed to call me back in 10 min but didn't for a couple of hours. Anyway...I've got to contact them back and take up where we left off. Surely we can get this thing going again. If HTC can fix it....no one can. When we get it up and going...i'll report back here for others future needs. The phone works great besides that!
Again thank....and anyone else have a suggestion.
Please respond to...

Thanks..
Check the USB pins on the unit, mine were bent down and did not make contact, i think from memory the 3rd pin in is the data connection.

Backlight -- end call issue (potential new finding!!!)

I've spent the last two days searching the XDA forum and Wiki. I've used Google to search for answers also. I've installed Kaiser Tweak and disabled all sleep entries. I've checked the registry to verify that these were turned off. I've checked the ../RIL/Backlight entries.
None of this has fixed my backlight/end of call issue. Have I missed something?
I know that this has been discussed ad nauseum. I've spent hours researching this and working to fix it since getting my Tilt last Friday. Nothing has made a difference.
Help.

When I received my Tilt a few days back, I used Sprite backup to do an 'upgrade restore' to my Tilt from my 8525.
VERY BAD IDEA!!!
Apparently there were some 'artifacts' from the 8525 that prevented KaiserTweak from fixing the backlight/call end issue.
After a hard reset, KaiserTweak now fixes the issue as reported in other threads.

You can (in theory) do the "upgrade restore" on the SAME DEVICE if you run their support utility before you upgrade your Rom.
It was never meant to cover changing devices, just upgrading Roms like from at&t 1.57 to at&t 1.62 or from WM 5.0 -> WM 6.0 -> WM 6.1 on the same hardware (family) i.e. either the exact same Tilt or moving from one Tilt/Kaiser to a new/replacement one.
Just learned that one the hard way my good man!
Thanks for putting the meat on the bones of my screw up. Sometimes the best service I offer is being a warning for others.

3G Diamond keeps rebooting during calls

My new Diamond keeps rebooting itself during calls. Somtimes, it lasts for 10-15 mins without a reboot and at other times, it reboots itself almost immediately. When not in a call, it has no issues whatsoever.
When I did a hard reset and used it, it worked fine for many calls but after sync with our Exchange server, the troubles started almost right away. No issues with the same data on my older TyTN II.
And I didn't install a single cab file...
I tried the stock HTC Asia ROM as well as Dutty's and nothing changed. I've tried three different Radios - 1.00.25.05, .06 and .07 and have the same symptoms. I'm currently on the stock ROM 1.93.707.1 WWE.
I thought it might be issues with my SIM so I got a new one and nothing changed.
Has anyone seen this issue before? The service centre looked at it for a day and said all was fine... so any help here would be greatly appreciated.
One additional point I've noted is that the Diamond reboots only when a data connection is active. If Data is disabled, then the phone doesn't reboot at all...
Anyone else seen these issues?
Touch Diamond Reboots in middle of Call
Just got my TD back from repair and was told it had a new motherboard. (which one would imagine would give you latest roms) and yesterday it rebooted 8 times during calls, and today 4 times (Maybe its getting better) but this is unacceptable in a $10 phone. Let alone the TD. Tim
Hi!
I have the similar problem. I tried to install different roms. These did not solve my problems. It seems to me, that it is a hardware design failure.
any ideas about fixes yet?

Diamond reboots when called
I have just had this same problem with my Touch Diamond, my Touch HD is away for repair with the same problem, it's a real pain as you don't know who called. I have installed the Diamond Project Team Rom Release V2 and I have just removed the slide to answer addon and will see how it goes.

Phone functionality died this morning

I've had my Tilt running pretty smoothly on the stock firmware since I bought it over the summer (camera stopped working, but that's a different story). Anyway, I did a backup this morning (SPB Backup), and after the reboot I couldn't get a voice signal. If I pushed the phone button, nothing would happen! Now here's the weird thing: I'm able to get a data connection (was able to get new email), but the phone icon still says no service. Has anybody experienced this before, or know of any fixes? I've soft-booted a few times, but didn't want to hard boot if there was a simpler way.
And yes I did search this entire forum for similar posts, but didn't find any.
Thanks in advance!
have you tried a different SIM from a different operator?
you might want to try a different SIM from a different operator just to be sure your SIM and/or operator is not the problem.
if it works with another SIM, you can be fairly certain that it is NOT a hardware issue...in which case, a hard reset will more than likely resolve your problem.
also, are you able to receive incoming calls? what kind of a message does the caller get in case your phone doesn't even wake up and ring? finally, have you tested sms text messaging? try sending a message to someone and also try to receive an sms text message from someone...these little steps will help you confirm whether or not you are experiencing a hardware issue...in which case you might want to consider having it checked/fixed under warranty.
keep searching...cheers !!!
Happened to me once. I tried everything, but didn't work. If it's under warranty, AT&T will replace it. I went through 3 units in the 11 months I owned tilt.
hmmm have you tried flashing another Radio? (don't know what happened to your camera, but if you've got cam & phone issues, it's worth checking the Radio...
It's happened to me twicw also. This is an SPB Backup quirk. I'm afraid a hard reset is all that's left to do.
Well,
first of check if you're connecting to the correct network AT&T and not accidently logged on to the T-Mobile network - perform a manual network search / selection on your device.
If the above step does not help, try to restore your device with the SPB Backup you made. If that also does not work, well, then ... yeah ... hard reset! I would not really consider a RADIO FLASH on your device since it semmed to be working fine for you before that?
Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I tried doing a full restore of the latest backup (that morning), and that seemed to bring back the phone functionality. However, the restore also eliminated a few of my main programs, which was very weird! So, I did a full restore from the previous backup and tested that one out. Everything was like it should be. Then I did a restore of the latest backup's tasks/appointments (only things that changed), and now I'm back to full operation
As a side question, since I'm running WM 6.0 and want to flash to 6.1, would I be able to do a full restore from SPB Backup... or would that be incompatible with the upgraded OS?
You won't be able to perform a FULL RESTORE. There are a couple of changes in WM6.1, so, just to be on the save side I would suggest that you back up your PIM data, then flash to 6.1, restore your PIM data and reinstall all of your application.
BTW:
I was running WM6.1 on my MWg Zinc II and couldn't find any real advantages other than THREADED SMS. The Pocket IE gets a whole bunch of new bugs (for example Frames in websites are not shown or not shown correctly) and experienced a couple of incompatibilities with 3rd-party software application. If you still want to take a chance, good luck! However, I do not believe that you can go back to WM6.0 once you flash to 6.1!
I wouldn't upgrade to 6.1 if you're running SPB software. I was running 6.1 without problems, then loaded SPB Phone Suite, Diary, and Pocket Plus, and suddenly Garmin XT couldn't locate satellites at all. It took several hard and soft resets, and a visit to the SPB forums to realize that 6.1 could be the culprit, and it was. All problems disappeared with 6.0. There was a post at the SPB forums that *seemed* to indicate that SPB apps hadn't been fully tested--they may have used the word "certified"--with 6.1. Good luck.
No, that's not it -- I'm running the latest versions of all of those SPB titles on a stock 6.1 with no problems.
i have no spb apps on this one and i have the problem...it just can't fix the network
it happened few days ago to a guy that isn't quite familiar with ppcs he somehow turned it off and when he turned it on he couldn't get the network...eventually he hooked up after half a day (i'm not sure for how long did this problem last because i don't know does he use soft reset and flight mode)...so i took the kaiser to test it and to see what happened..i messed with flight mode and SR it couldn't find the net at all
tried wm6 and two wm6 radios
tried wm6.1 and two wm6.1 radios
i'll try android...just to test the module itself..if there are any hardware issues

Weird problem with tilt. Please help.

I'm hoping the great folks at XDA-Developers can help me with this weird network issue. I have an AT&T Tilt with the stock WM6.1 ROM. It started this past weekend. Fortunately the important programs work like Skyfire, Opera Mini, IE, Outlook, and Google Maps. But nothing else can communicate with the internet. It started with QuickGPS. Press download to get the updates and in less then half a second pops up a message “Connection Failed”. I spent a lot of time searching and trying all the fixes for registry, remove hidden proxy, restore proxy, etc., etc. All no good. I suspect because the problem is not with QuickGPS because I have now found that other programs that I use to use don't work anymore either. I use programs like WeatherWatch, GPSRadar, OggSync, etc. Non of them are able to connect anymore. The errors pop up quick, like they didn't even try. I have tried everything I can think of. Checked all the settings, and options and all not good. There is something that I'm missing and I'm hoping someone can help. Thanks so much.
I don't know if I stumped everyone (77 views and no one commented) or if this was the wrong place to post this problem. If it was the wrong place, I apologize.
I did solve the problem, but not the conventional way I would have liked. I found a full system backup that was dated three weeks prior to the time this problem appeared. I made a current full system backup as well as a separate full PIM backup. Hard Reset. Restored the three week old backup. Restored the current PIM backup. Did some other miscellaneous updates that I had done in the last three weeks. All works perfectly now. Most of me is glad that I'm back 100%. But the IT part of me is frustrated that I don't know what went wrong and didn't get the chance to fix it properly.
