Can't hard reset - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I can't hard reset. All I have is a vodafone screen when I switch it on. Can I recover from this or is it a brick now.
Any advice.
thanks
Elaine

what exactly did u do
Did u try to flash your ROM ?
The set will not get bricked all of a sudden.
Remove the battery for a while and check it again

Put your device on bootloader and flash your device again (hardspl first, if you have not flash before) . Read the wiki to find your stock rom and how to flash if it is your first time.

thanks
I had not tried to do anything with my phone it just hung up after doing a soft reset because it had frozen up and the soft reset then froze also and then there was nothing.
I followed the advice suggested and my phone is now working.
thanks again

Try flashing your stock ( original ) rom, found in the wiki . And start over again.
Oh yeah, and this time it might be a good idea to read ALL the instructions FIRST.
How ?? how can you do this with out Jump SPL ? its at the first initial screen with the name of the rom.... and thats it , connecting to my computer doesnt even make a connection sound......

Try to put your phone in bootloader. Press and hold camera button and power button, while pressing soft reset with stylus. Once in bootloader. Connect to PC and see if you can run the RUU in your stock rom.

Keep trying to put it into bootloader. Try a hard reset and follow instructions to get it into bootloader. Sometimes it takes several tries.

Maybe, I didnt Explaine it correctly but , I do NOT get the tri colored screen . This is how it goes after i press the power button to start my phone : So it automaticaly goes into loading screen where on the bottom right hand corner it shows the Radio version , the G version and some other version.......... and that is the only screen i get after staring my phone.

Thanx
Thank you denco , for the info , and thanx chumley for beating some sence into me. So i got to the bootloader. Do i need to instal my original rom or can i just reinstall the one i got or maybe another one?
well I have the same problem.
It started with the edfc problem explained here
While trying to fix that problem, I switched my rom to the TPC elite rom series (windows 6.5).
All went fine till three days later, while text-messaging, the screen freezed. I removed the battery, restarted the device and found myself having the same symptoms discussed in this threat.
Putting my phone into bootloader doesn't work, and I think It has to do with the problem I had before; that apart from the directional buttons and the power button, all buttons are defunct.
Anyone any suggestions? (apart from: don't bother us, etc, etc...)
my phone randomly bricked too a while back....as far as I understand is that either you CAN put your phone in to bootloader or your phone is junked....correct me if im wrong ppl
.....make sure you hold the camera and power buttons then reset with stylus....
and make sure you install your stock rom...aka the att tilt rom
if you didn't do it already...
1. flash your original rom (SD card method - Step 5 Flashing Via MicroSD Card ) you need the rom to be at least from the same operator. it should run just fine, just as long as you follow the directions.
2. HardSPL,SIM CID unlock, etc. as described on the same forum i pointed to a little earlier. from this point on you should have a phone just like it was when new.
try to read more carefully (maybe a few times) and search before you start a new thread.
on the wiki and in the stickies in the rom development section you get a lot of "bricked" solutions. you just have to read them all and see what is your case...

A question when flashing a new ROM

Everytime I flash a new ROM my X1 restarts directly after flashing?
And then it will go through the setup process..
But since I read that we should always do a hard reset before installing, why just don't shut the phone down after a flash? So we can start immediatly with an hard reset?
For now, as soon the flash is done, I'll put out battery and makes a hard reset by holding the 2 menu buttons down when I start my X1.
Has I misunderstood something?

You don't need to pull out battery. Just hold down 2 menu buttons and push reset button with stylus to hard reset.
you can do that at any time and don't need to turn off x1 first.

My question is that why does the flashprogram restart X1 after flash when its better to do a hard reset first? Maybe the developer can change that?

I know what you mean buddy. when you flash rom with SD method, the phone won't restart afterflashing, and you can hard reset after flashing.
IF YOU USE PC method, it will restart after flashing. That is my experience

Flash official HTC RUU back on your phone
I have exactly the same problem...
I tried formatting the nand flash, seems to work.
(Vol down + enter + reset, then vol down)
(Note that you will loose all data on internal storage, too...)

Phone doesn't want to boot.

My TP2 stopped working ((((((
I was using it with some cooked ROM (i think it's not relevant what exactly). This morning i had my breakfast and i've got an SMS from an acquaintance. After this i couldn't see my home screen anymore, but i could still use start menu and so on. I wasn't first time as this error happened, so i didn't thought anything and just made a reboot. After this i saw bootloader screen and it was message about missing ROM shortly to see. Nohting else, only bootscreen, hard reset didn't work either. So i came home, connected my phone via USB to my notebook, powered it on and started to flash ROM. As flash was successfully complete, the phone rebooted and i saw... bootloader again!
So i don't know what to do now, anybody some thoughts?

If you have a GSM TP2 try running Task 29 before flashing the ROM. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=649191 After Task 29 then reflash your ROM of choice and then hard reset to make suer everything took.
Good luck

Yes, i have a GSM TP2. As you advised, i downloaded Task 29, unzipped it and run ROMUpdateUtility.exe from its folder. After 100% phone booted again to the bootloader, I went to ROM's folder and run CustomRUU.exe from it to flash the new ROM. After "success" i disconnected the USB-cable and started the phone... no changes. I still see the bootloader. And i still cannot hard reset my phone for some reason.

How are you hard resetting your phone? All I do is power it off then hold the send and end keys and press and hold the power button until a message pops up asking if you want to hard reset. Press the vol up key to reset and after it completes press the vol up key to reboot.
Just a random thought here--is it possible your volume down button is stuck?

Any other thoughts? Without phone i am totally f*cked up, cause i am not in my hometown right now and i have to keep contact with my business partners in there.
It sounds like your bootloader is somehow broken, if it isn't a problem with the volume down key.
Try searching for information about the "mtty" utility. It's kinda complicated, but I think it's helped people in a similar situation.

Now I am encountering bigger problems with my device. I tried to use MTTY ver 1.42 first. I couldnt use it because there wasn't an option to choose USB-port. Yes, i unchecked "Connect via USB" in WMDC and killed it then in task manager. Then i flashed stock SPL ver 0.79, hm nothing new. Then I tried to flash the original SPL, i.e. ver 0.84 and it got stuck by 0%. I waited and waited and waited, so i had to remove cable and the battery. After that nothing worked. No flashing worked at all, even Task 29 gets stuck by 0% every time........ I dont know what to do now.....

So does it still always go into the bootloader ? It won't boot ? If so, have you tried mtty to try and fix that ?

Have you tried flashing a ROM using the storage card method? Might be some error being caused but your computer.
The following was taken from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550540
Flashing Via MicroSD Card
1. Make sure your microSD is Formatted to fat32 (you dont have to delete all files but it is safer if you do)
2. Download your prefered Rom from the Rhodium Rom Develpoment Page and unzip/unrar it to your PC
3. Goto the Roms Folder and rename the .nbh file to RHODIMG.nbh
4. Copy the RHODIMG.nbh file to the root of your MicroSD Card
5. Plug the MicroSD Card into the phone
6. Enter the BootLoader screen, you will first see a tri-color screen with the phone and SPL Information at the top
7. Follow the On Screen instructions to start the update
8. After flash has completed, press the reset button with the stylus to reset the device.
You might also want to try flashing from another computer.

well it seems that you have flashed back to stock spl since it is showing you spl version (0.79)
which means you will have to hardspl it again in order to flash any custom roms again but it is probably unlikely that it will not work because when you reflash stock spl you are suppose to flash stock rom & radio first before flashing stock spl i'm just guessing i'm not to sure on this 1 i could be wrong though
P.S. - just a suggestion since you have stock spl back on the phone try & flash a stock rom to see if that works

Is that maybe the problem ? Did you flash the stock SPL back onto it as you referred to earlier ? Because 0.79 is a stock SPL version, so it won't boot a custom ROM with that SPL.
So is the whole problem that you have a custom ROM and stock SPL ? I hope it's that simple, but fear it isn't.
I hope!
Hello,
if you have 0.79 hard spl,
1. you should install stock rom, not cooked. After go to bootloader mode.
2. Run Rhodium-HardSPL_V2_00R3.exe from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4363807&postcount=1
3. Install cooked rom!
It is working!
I hope it will help your problem!

Yeah guys, here's what i did and what i see. Before i flashed stock SPL 0.79 i flashed stock ROM and stock radio. Then i tried to flash stock SPL 0.84 and it didn't work for some reason. OK, then I read an advice from Doo Doo and tried to flash stock ROM again. I was wondering that it worked... but as it got 100% the device entered bootloader mode again! But after this the version of SPL was 0.88
I cannot use storage card method because i don't have any possibility to get access to the card from my PC And I just tried to hard SPL my phone from another PC (winxp) so it didn't work either, stuck by 0%.
Try to older stock rom. Maybe it will install older spl...
Sorry, but I couldn't help this problem! :S

do you mean hard reset (hold power + left + right button)?
i did, and on the screen shown test "this operation will delete all your bla..bla.."
but when resetting complete, it's still restart when booting and logo sonyericsson appears
is it hardware failure?
I would not give up yet. You say you have tried installing another rom to no avail? Is hard spl installed on your phone? What kind of rom do you use (WM 6.1, WM 6.5)?
looks like your rom is messed up and can't boot anymore.
error 262 means you haven't got hard-spl (needed for task29 as well).
try flashing a new rom, either usb-method or sd-card method should work.
a) flash a stock-rom, doesn't need hard-spl
b) flash a custom-rom, but before that you first have to flash hard-spl!!!
how to do all that -> read the stickies.

Since you have original X1 SPL and ROM, I'm not sure, try stock ROM that is posted by PavelX1.
If it's customized, try other ROM, it's easy.

Yeah it is happening to me too lately and according to Russell's experience, he tells me to charge the phone @ full battery 100% then flash a new ROM (try other ROM). Task29 can be performed before flashing and removed battery for few secs as williyung recommends it. Good luck!

Followed your guides but nothing better. It still starts in bootloader mode automatically and cannot hard reset too.
it still doesn't find a system despite you flashed stockrom?!
well, then i'd say you have either a hw-failure or you're doing something wrong. i guess it's the second...
- after micro-sd-flash, are you waiting for the "ok" or do you remove your battery as soon as it eaches 100%? (=too early)
- what does it say on bootloader-screen, any error-messages?
flash stockrom with usb-method and see how it goes. you can also try downloading stockrom again, maybe the file is corrupted (unlikely, but...)
i'm saying stockrom because it should always work, no matter if you have hard-spl flashed or not.

Thank you for your advice.
I did ROM flashing by micro-SD and via USB many times before so I know how to do. But it's stuck into bootloader all the time I turn it on (it looks like you press & hold power+down volume button to enter bootloader mode) so I could not do flashing with USB method.
I also downloaded a fresh stockrom SonyEricsson_X1i_firmware_GENERIC_UK_R3AA010 but it still the same all the way.
I remember that it began to get stuck on bootloader few times ago and I simply did softreset until it worked normally. But now there's no way!
I already sent it to SE Service Center and they asked me to pay US$125 to change the whole mainboard!
never said you're a noob.
but yes, you can flash via usb if it's in bootloader. just connect it - pc recognizes it and you can run customruu.exe. (ignore any error-message from activesync/mobile center) i'm doing it this way all the time.
you can reflash stock-/hard-spl this way as well. maybe that would fix things.
i still think you've got a software-problem, something got messed up on your nand. for example, i had a "degenerating" file-system twice, where more and more files would get messed up in windows until the system wasn't bootable anymore (filesize 1.4 gb and such crap). after flash everything was fine and within a day - "dead". only stockrom cured that (task29 didn't). that's why i say concentrate on stockrom - it's your best chance before flashing a custom-rom again.
try everything before paying money for this old phone (replacing the mb surely would fix everything, but...). of course hw-failure is always an option, but rather unlikely in this manner.

Finally found the problem.
I powered up X1 with USB cable plug-in and it starts normally
I think the battery is going to die so its low voltage may caused that malfunction.
Thank you for your time.
