Hi there!
I recently changed my battery with an ORIGINAL new one because I had a problem... that is still here...
Every time I turn on wifi (even with 100% of battery) my phone turns off after 2 or 3 minutes (and it seems that's because of the battery.)
Sometimes it turns off even when I'm just calling (more often when the battery is less then 20-30%).
EDITED: 30-40 seconds before it turns off the screen and the physical keyboard backlight start to flicker.
EDITED: Now it turns off EVERY time I make or receive a call after 4-5 minutes!
Exemple: Today the battery life was around 50%. I tried to turn on wifi. After 2 minutes of wifi use it turned off. I tried to turn it on but there was the flashing red led and it turned off again every time (it was like uncharged ).
Then I tried to remove the battery for a few hours, I put it back in and the battery life was the same of before the "turning off" problem, around 50%. What does it mean??
My hypothesis is that it gets excessively hot when I use wifi and even when I call... But I don't really know what that's about..
[my ROM is this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=586463, the english version. I got the right RADIO, I checked yesterday]
Thanks for any suggestion!!
Fabrizio
[sorry 4 bad English]
Try this...
Check the battery contacts on the phone -- clean them with a little isopropyl alcohol, and gently pry them up a little so they make solid contact with the battery.
I'll try what you say, thanks a lot!
I just want to say (I forgot it in the first post) that the screen and even the physical keyboard backlight start to flicker 30-40 seconds before the kaiser turns off.
After prying and cleaning the battery contacts the problem isn't solved yet. I didn't use the isopropyl alcohol, I'll try it asap.
Anyway now the problem is even worse, the kaiser shuts down each call after 2 or 3 minutes! Of course if the phone is charging (via usb) NO PROBEL, even the flickering isn't there any more...
Any other possibility of fixing that? (I have no warrantee, I really hope I fix that by my self just with your help!)
btry prob
well.. find out if one of ur friends has kaiser..... exchange batteries... i.e u isert his btry into ur kaiser and ur btry in his kaiser and then try the wifi n calls from both fones..... this will precisely tel u whether it a fault in the fon or u didnt get The genuine btry.... hope this helps.... do leme knw.....
Thanks for replying but I'm using a brand new battery and the problem is still the same of the old battery, nothing changed...
perhaps the problem is really not the battery but rather the battery's charging.
the point of exchanging your battery with a friend's battery is that you will be able to test your device with a known properly charged battery.
alternatively, you can try to charge your existing battery with an external battery charging pack or by inserting your battery in a friend's phone and let it charge there.
i understand that you claim your battery is brand new, and this is leading you to conclude that it can NOT be the battery at fault...but strange things happen in this strange world!
Wow I didn't see this problem from that point of view!
The only person I know that has a Kaiser is 600km far from me...
Now I have to find a way to properly charge my battery (if it isn't already properly charged of course!)...
But just one question: if the Kaiser is not charging good the battery, why should it "think" that it's 100% charged??
welllll.... trust me..... i once had a sony ericsson k770i. the shopkeeper said that it has ORIGINAL btry.... n it wud turn off after 20 min talk. so my advise is try another btry from another shop.....
But I tried with 2 different batteries, my old one and a new one and the problem is the same. I also have to say that it's always worse then before. Now even if I turn on the camera after some minutes it turns off, ora yesterday even when I was writing a text message.
Indeed it's possible that the battery is always less charged because the Kaiser doesn't charge it. The Kaiser works good when connected with usb to may mac...
well buddy, ur last post clearly suggests a prob with btry.... say hw much had u used ur old btry before changing it
I used a battery for around one year, but it was already used (I've bought a used Kaiser, in very good conditions, on eBay).
The problem I have started with the old battery and now it keeps torturing me with the new one... Today I had my phone charged, but after 4-5 hours without using it I received a call and of course it turned off (after the flickering screen) I'm desperate...
o boy... its 200% confirmed btry prob. i m guessing, if u wud talk with charger or data cable plugged in, it wud work for hours ryt? my sincere advice is, go to a trustworthy shop n get a new battery. i m also using a new btry but it gives really gud tym on wifi, wap n calls....
Well I really think the battery I've just bought is a brand new original Battery, I checked all codes, voltage and other stuff... BTW I think I'll try to use another orignal battery (I'm sure that's original) of a friend of mine's Kaiser before I buy a new one. Here in Italy battery and gadgets prices are really high... Thanks 4 the help anyway!
PS: I really hope it's a battery problem, because if it's something else I don't really know what to do.... thanks again!
Update: I noticed that if I don't use Camera, Wifi or even make calls at all, my kaiser works for 2-3 days with no problem. I send lots of text messages, play Solitaire or view my photo album for example...
Why just more "intensive" tasks should make my phone turn off in 2-3 minute?
I don't really understand... I hope I'll find someone in my town that can fix it... BTW thank for any help

Hi all,
After 2 days of testing this tweak, I have booked really good results with my Diamond.
The phone has been on and not connected to charger or computer for over 48 hours now, and the battery has dropped only to 50%. That's right, two full days and nights of stand-by time, with an occasional call here and there, a couple of text messages, and reading some email.
Before this tweak I had to charge the Diamond already after 24 hours or less.
So if you have low battery life problems, give this a go:
Advanced config tools -> disable the setting "GPRS auto attach"
Read about this setting here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395301&highlight=GPRS+auto+attach
Have fun and enjoy the longer battery life
But this has been discussed already and is only any good if you don't rely on GPRS a lot throughout the day surely? I mean I use Exchange and I'm sure it wouldn't work for me if I tweaked this setting.
Works great if you dont use the phone all that much but doesnt make much of a difference if you do make calls, send and receive sms texts..email send and receive etc etc.
Ive enabled that tweak and i still find the battery to be utterly rubbish for a phone of this power. Sure it helps conserve some of the battery but i can guarantee you that by 7pm tonight my phone will be dead...like it happened to me yesterday...went to work yesterday battery was 100%...made 3-4 calls...in total spent about 30 mins on the phone...browsed the internet for about 20 mins...sent and received 30 texts...watched a few youtube vids...checked my email a few times...not really heavy usage but by 7pm my phone was dead.
Not impressed with HTC and their monumental screw up with this battery..900mah is just not enough for this device if you want to use it properly that is. You would have thought they would have learned from Nokia when they first released their N95, that had a terrible battery on it as well...although with the n95 8gb the battery is much much better. Why they felt it only needed 900mah is quite beyond me...plus the battery gets hot which proves to me that the battery is not up to the job imo. Luckily the phone is good or else id have sent it back by now...guess ill have to wait for the extended battery to make an appearance. In fact i find the battery so rubbish that ive had to order a spare usb synch cable so i can charge my phone here at work.
Guys, if you want to substantially improve your battery life, go with a newer 1.37 ROM.
The older 1.35 ROM has serious battery life problems, there isn't much you can do about it without to cripple full functionality.
Where can i get the 1.37 ROM?
It isn't available in the e-club on htc.com
It's linked in the Diamond ROM Development forum.
You need to install the developer version of the HardSPL first, then install one of the 1.37 roms - I'm using the official HTC HK-English one with the 1.37.707.1 rom in it.
Works a treat for me - though I haven't had it on long enough to test battery time extensively yet.
I'm on the 1.37 rom, was on the 1.34 with my first unit and the battery is much better. I'm also noticing that the battery improves with 'age'. Plus I've got the dock on the way when it's released so that will help things no end I'm sure. When I'm in the car I shove a normal mini usb cable in from my Sony CD player and of course the upside of that is it will also play my music too instead of using USB drives. At work I use a spare USB and plug it in.
The battery is poo but having worked it in to a routine like that I hardly notice it now.
Unhooked my Diamond last night 22.00-ish from the usb cable and while I am typing now the battery is still more than 80% charged.
Texted alot today, called approx. 30 mins, checked my e-mail several times and played around with google maps for 20 minutes or so.
I did not tweak anything except that I flashed the 1.37 ROM and installed the newest Google-maps thingy.
So I can confirm that the new ROM saves alot of energy and that the battery-life gets better in time sounds also plausible.
With the 1.35 ROM the battery lasted 12 hours max with the same activities.
I've found that after a few days the battery is actually better than it was wen new. Must be that charge/discharging it a few times has helped...

actually I find your usage is a lot. during the day i will make one or two phone calls say 10 minutes. send an average of 5 sms texts and maybe check my email for a minute or 3. what takes most of my battery is when i read an ebook or do a game.

Maybe it is but for me i dont think its that high...as i said my nokia n95 8gb would last a good day or 2 before going completely dead and thats with the sort of usage that i described earlier. Anyways i have a synch cable coming which ill keep at work to charge the Diamond.
hey battery life is better after this tweak. but my 3g logo has changed... it's now in some greyish box... anyone know what this means?
I think this means that the network knows it's available but you haven't attached to the data service. I used to get a similar greying out of the globe icon on my P1i if the net knew it was there but I had unattached manually.
Hi i am novice with my HTC touch diamond & i am also facing the same problem of battery life.
you've shown some solution over there in your post. please, can you tell me where in my phone i need to go to apply this settings.
hank you
Shouldnt be news to many of you but i will report it anyway so :
when my gf got her diamond, battery power lasted only 1 day at normal usage. no gps, no hsdpa or whatsoever enabled, just some calls and text messages. then i tried pimping it by using diamond config and applying all energy tweaks and the new rom, still only 1.5 day at max. i was laughing at it coz my artemis/orbit lasts a week, but still i we were pissed of a bit.
now we had to change the whole device coz there was another issue with in and outgoing calls. i had to remove the cell and send the device in...few days later i got a new one, using the old batterycell. i didnt change anything, not even the windows settings and voilà : battery lives for 2-3 days !!!! thats quite astonishing for a diamond. so imho its proven what some already stated : few charges with 24h batterylife must be faulty, like mainboardissues or somethin.
so : if u really want to fix the prob, then u might have to send the phone in and let em fix it for you.

Battery Issue/Diamond Exchanged
Just exchanged my diamond for another. Heat issue and battery drain without use after only 10 hours. I was wondering if the battery drain could be caused by changing the active profile from 0 to 1, but then again that made the data connection work. Will have to see if the same thing happens with the replacement diamond.

Let us know if the exchange helped. Like maybe its the device thats screwing up and not the battery itself.
My Battery from the Diamond is 4 days after recharge now down to 30% by light use.
The Problem are enrgy hungry applications in the background.
Install the powermanagment.cab. It brings a light better battery consumption.
You also can search a way to disable the loading of energy hungry applications (exemply: change or del registry entrys)

Hi guys,
Since I made the mistake of switching to DUO instead of the Tilt (yeah cast stones on me) when I updated "that one" to 6.1 the /WINDOWS file incredibly messed up. So much so that I felt a hard reset would work and reinstall 6.1 but instead I killed it on "Download Ready". Now I have to turn in my lil' POS to Pantech so they do that themselves. Bummer and no phone for 2 weeks.
Then I pull out my good ol' trusty Wizard but this one, unless I have it plugged in or hooked on the USB, it powers off and on constantly and goes back to original config (year 2006, and such). I NEED this phone as a loaner till I get the other one back. No use to have a cell phone that you can't use without cables.
I want to know if there is a fix to this, or if you guys think if updating this dinosaur (original everything, OS, WM, radio, etc.) to your latest and best(est) would fix this really annoying thing. Heck if you guys can fix this I might put the Duo in the corner for a while after it comes back...I got that SIM card and put it here and I can make and receive calls, the problem is it turning off and on constantly and deleting everything.
Now I will go back to my corner with my straightjacket. Thanks!
Hello there fellow Wizard owner. This is my first post on the website and I think I can help you out.
1) Try and leave your Wizard connected to the wall outlet for 1 hour. Then turn it on while plugged to the wall. See it will reboot. If it doesn't unplug it and see how long it lasts without it being plugged. If it reboots when it is unplogged it could mean your battery wont hold it's charge no more and all you need to do is get a new one. I went thru the same trouble last month and after testing everything under the sun I decided to replace the baterry and .. Viola!!! no more reboots for me.
I hope this helps.
Another questinon,
My notebook is Vista; my DH's is an XP. Which OS is safer to perform these changes? I found the thread where I can update the OS and to WM6 for newbies and I will try that first on XP.
One of (if not) the main reason the Duo got screwed up is that I tried to update it to 6.1 on Vista, when I was supposed to do this on XP (but don't tell anybody that they had TWO different instructions for BOTH OS's).
Cheerio.
Lol ... Yeah on my personal opinion if you are upgrading your Operating system use XP ... for some reason Vista freezes on me. And b4 you upgrade remember to read ALL the threads about upgrading your Wizard. Pretty much you can find all the answers on the search engine. And this guys are close to Gods when it comes to modding this "dinnosaour". I have pretty much messed my phone over 100 times .. I always look for the newer Rom and hacks and they guides they have here can help you with almost any known problem.
I know...I have taken apart mine FOUR TIMES and put it back together...two times b/c my daughter decided to dunk it in OJ!!!!!!!
Good thx for the advice I will fetch for a batt then...my DH will not hear me complain any longer I hope...
It's more than likely your battery.
When mine went - from a full charge to 60 % no issues, once it hit 59 % charge - the phone would cycle on and off until I pulled the battery - or stuck in back on the charger.
New battery - haven't had an issue since
Good luck

Hi,
Performed experiment as we agreed...turned it on @3pm (let it charge for more than 1 hr) and AS LONG AS I DID NOT MAKE A CALL it worked fine. Now it is having those seizures again. I can only stop it by taking the battery off, of course if I want to do that immediately. I dialed, when I was gonna send a page to my DH it went bipolar.
Now that is a reason why I believe it is not necessarily a battery issue but a software/hardware issue. I believe I will try upgrade software on this thing.

Did yours did this when making a call? I played games, fussed with the calendar, updated email settings, but nothing happened till I dialed.
Yep - usually when making a call.
Games, settings, etc take very little battery power - but phone calls take the brunt of the battery power.
Kind of like when they give you battery ratings - you will see four or five days of stand by time - but only 5 hours of talk time.
Like I said, for me - it was the battery.
Good luck
Same here battery was my problem. But if you still want to try to update. Make sure you charge the thone THRU wall adaptor then thru USB. If I remember correctly wizards wont charge a completely drained battery thru USB. And if during the update your phone starts to do the reboot dance it is 99.9% your batery then. Again GL.
Hello,
I´m from Germany, so sorry for my bad english.
As long as I´m sitting at home an my Diamond lies on my Desktop the Battery works good. In Standby there is enougth power for about 2-3 Days. But for example when I´m going shopping with my Diamond (not using it) the Battery goes empty very fast. After 3 hours it is nearly empty and this can´t be normal I think?
The phone is in standby in both cases? Any ideas?
Hm, maybe it's the temperature? Not sure how hot it is there, but it may be it being in your pocket and just getting very hot.
I'm not too good with ideas.
hehe thank you, but i don´t think so... it´s deep winter in germany i think it has to do with the sensor, if i´m moving my telephone in my bag? any iusses?
Do you get full signal when at home?
Maybe there is very little signal at some of the places you go to. That can also cause the battery to drain.
well moving around would mean it change gsm connection a lot more
which would use more power but 3 hours sounds kinda wild
unless it's running gps when ever you move around
do you have the device in your pocket? if so it might be getting buttons pressed and keeps switching the screen on and off. Try carrying it in a bag and see if that helps.
Thats it... i think my GPS is turned off, how can i see, it´s really turned off?
Yes i carry it in my pocket, but its in standby mode, display off and locked...
the signal @ home is okay... same thing everywhere else... for example @ work... while my diamond lies on my desktop, everything is okay... but if a carry it around, the battery goes empty very fast.
my diamond is about 3 weeks old and i have tested 3 or 4 different roms... always the same.
(sorry for my bad englisch again, i´m german)
Don't you have any apps using the G-sensor all the time? That would explain it, because it could do something when the position changes, which happen a lot while you are walking.
I think the only Programm which uses GPS is the TomTom Navigator... But it´s always closed...
First post for me so sorry if it makes no sense,
I read on a dutch forum that cold weather drains the battery far more then warmer weather.
Don't know if it's true or not?
Cold weather does indeed drain the battery faster.
Cold makes electrical components operate more effiicently. This isnt a good thing as it means battery power drains faster. If your phone is cold, especially outside you can expect your battery to drain twice as fast. Your 10 hours standby are suddenly only 5.

but why the sudden increase? I mean I'm not having problems yet.
But I can imagine when you're working outside you're going to get issues.
And my older phones didn't make any noticable difference outside, I know the diamond has more electronics inside then my k800i from sony but when the phones in standbye all wireless apps off it shouldn't make that much difference should it?
Sry if my english isn't flawless I'm dutch and school was a long time ago
Hm, this may seem like a really really silly idea, but you could try something as like wrapping a cloth around your phone to keep it warm in your pocket/bag/etc and see how the battery life is.
Just an idea.
put it in the fridge and wait....
.... put your Diamond in the fridge and see if it drains your battery
then take your fridge outside and walk around and see if it gets worse
Without kidding: i went ice skating the last few days, took several foto's and video's and did not notice faster drain.
Hi,
just a proposal:
Have you tried f.e. with a programm like TaskManager (fdcsoft) to check whether there is some miscellanous cpu-usage?
Or maybe you can try to use the application 'nodata!' (see this forum) to first disable all not used connections and check your battery consumption afterwards with only the phone activated
Or - if its a gps problem - try to get the 'htc gps tool' (see this forum too) and check whether you gps is activated always
Hope s.th. helps (sorry for my bad english, but I'm from Germany too) - let us know
bye
Ralf
I have exactly the same problem!
I charge my diamond over night and its empty before the day is over!
I only make a few calls else its laying in my pocket locked with the ipod-like S2U2 slide thingy.
Frikin annoying
I use Nodata mms and 3g is disconected and i just bought a new bigger battery, same issue
Same problem here
I also have exactly the same problem as described by SaTanSJupp. Did somebody find a solution already?
HI
My wife has my old Touch Diamond2. She complains that after charging it overnight, the battery shows as FULL, but within a few hours it is dsicharged.
1. Does the battery need replacing
2. How can I check to confirm it is the battery and not the charger/phone.

Max
Try the battery saving tricks mentioned in this thread
Advanced Tricks for Saving Battery
Hope this helps you,

Thanks Senax for the nice link.. That is very nice thread to read and understand
thanks
I think the phone possibly has a hardware fault.
It strange, because if I take the simm out the phone keeps alomost full charge for the whole day!!
Not sure if its worth fixing.

May be you can check what all kind of networks are working/used when SIM is in? Also make the network selection Manual instead of AUTO and see the difference.
thanks.

I Flashed the last radio
I Flashed the last Photon UX Room.
And then I fixed the battery problem...
why? I don´t know
lfallasm...
Thanks lfallasm and TD2IN
I dont want to flash the phone cos I have software (TomTOm) on the phone for which I no longer have the original CD to re-install. Also I have never flashed before.
I will try the network selection suggestion.
cheers
Network selection is already set to Manual.
I noticed something very STRANGE today.
I thought it maybe due to the signal in the new house we moved to, so I took the phone to work. Made one call and it went dead. Tried to start the phone, but battery to weak.
I took the sim out. started the phone without the sim and HEY PRESTO, battery is 75% full!!
Any ideas whats going on??
You should really flash it first, and if it fails you have a faulty phone. But flash it with HTC stock Rom, because you will lose waranty if you use anything else.
Its out of warranty. (My wife uses this phone now)
Would a FACTORY reset achieve the same as flashing with a HTC stock rom??
regards
FIXED.
The battery was faulty.
Apparently is had developed a slight "buldge" in the middle. Probably due to over heating.
Bought a new battery and all seems well.
£8 battery saved me buying a wildfire S for the wife.
