Hi amigos:
I been searching around and I cant find a solution for this annoying thing .
If I connect to my 3G usign my kaiser for more than 10 minutes, the phone is getting extremly warm. I try to put the back light low but doesnt help. I'm usign Dutty 29 apr. Rom and radio version is 1.58.21.23 and I'm in Denmark.
Is your battery draining fast?
Get a battery meter and test that because I had a TyTN that did that...
same here original rom wm6.1 NL

If I where you I would try a diffrent radio and check what aps you are running in background/prosseses. I often use my kaiser as an wifi router and I dont think you gets close to as warm as mine streaming and charging at the same time I abuse it so hard it resets itself, now thats hot hehe. Anyway, some radio are battery monsters for me, its just about to find the best one for youreself.
I have good experience with: 1.58.25.17 in Norway, havent tried it whit duttys.
If not you can try 1.65.14.06 and 1.65.17.10 wich dutty included whit the release.
To 2007HHR: Yes the baterry draining fast that is the worst part. what is the purpose for use a battery meter? Its going to solve my battery problem?
Raiisak I will try another radio, hope it will help me, I never experience a phone that will become warm after using it for a long time. Really annoying

i only experienced this one time when i had my gps turned on for half an hour and my phone turned into a hot potato and battery went from 95 to 15 percent.
u have to realize though that the tilt is sorta like a mini laptop and it will start getting warm after some time unless u give it some rest.
Well I never experience something like it in a windows mobile before, I will be really interesting to know if this is a hardware failure. Have you guys experience something like this in other htc phones?

Unfortunately this is almost unavoidable with lithium batteries. My HTC TyTN II battery gets hot while charging, and even hotter if phone is being used (voice or data). It gets hot to the point that the battery stops charging (at least they have thermal control circuits, it could explode otherwise, lithium batteries do not like the heat).
The same happened with my previous phone, from e-ten. A battery got very hot and damaged while talking for a long time. I have used my devices mostly as a PDA, for reading or playing music, but as soon as phone radio is on, it starts getting very hot.
Hi Vcespon:
THis is horrible, I can't belive with a advance phone like kaiser something like this happen. Is there any firmware that might fix this, otherwise I will thinking to change this phone, this is unacceptable.

That's not normal. If it is the case your most likely have a hardware problem. Same to the OP.
Mine also got warm and was emptying the battery in a couple of hours once the radio broke down.
Other than this, the only cases where the phone will get really hot is when using WMWifirouter to route the 3G connection to WLAN and downloading a lot. Both the 3G and WiFi radios being on and working hard, plus the processor doing the routing uses a tremendous amount of power. But the device wasn't meant to be used that way anyway.
The GPS also uses quite a bit of power so if you have that on on you might want to try turning it off.
When just talking on the phone the device should get a little warm but no more.
The battery meter would show how much of your battery is being drained when idle... mainly shut down all applications and see what the reading is and that would give you an idea if the device is defective.
I can tell ya, mine gets HOT. I sent the first one back because I thought it was defective. Also with a couple different roms it makes no difference. If your using 3G, BT, GPS, or any combination of those, that SOB will get hot. If I'm charging at the same time, it gets so hot it shuts the charging proccess down. I have to hold it over a AC vent to cool it back down.
Over all though, the only complaint I have with the phone is the heat and battery drain issue.
dead phone or dead battery
Do not know if this where to post. But my TyTn stopped charging. The phone is completly dead. Right now I'm on vacation in a remote location with out any access to the local AT&T to get a battery quick. But the problem is that the battery is not taking a charge. The red charge light is not on or anything. I left the phone on the charger for two days and nights with no results. I ordered a battery but will not have it untill I get home in another week. I have Dutty's 6.1 5.2.19199 UC Compliant ROM on the phone and I've been using it for about 10 days now. Everything was working fine. The phone was getting warm during GPS useage and when charging. Right now I hope that its just the battery. But in case its not, I need to know what my options are. Is the phone dead? What other measures are there to bring it back to life? Thanks in advance.
I can say from my experience with a tytn and now a tytnII when you use them rigorously , they will get hot. I guess the real question is how hot is it really getting and what is running on the phone. Is it uncomfortable to hold?
On EDGE data with FlexMail and IM+ online, the phone stays ice cold. On HSDPA the same, it gets slightly warm. When talking on the phone with HSDPA, it gets a bit warmer.
When using GPS+iGO8 or TomTom, it gets rather warm. Add charging and it gets pretty hot. I've seen batterystatus show as high as 42C using internal GPS+iGO8+Charging.
Gets hot + doesn't charge from laptop
I've got a similar problem - Kaiser may get hot when being used as a modem and/or charging...., well I've actually had this going on from time to time and wasn't much concerned about it until now: the battery doesn't charge when connected to my laptop - ActiveSync or modem, the amber light doesn't come on, plus drains fast.
The Kaiser(so the battery) is only 3 mths old (although I use it heavily as a modem) and I guess it's unlikely that changing the battery will help here...
My kaiser gets warm too.. I guess it's because I'm hot.
Never mind
HR fixed it...
You also have to remember that these things have a 400mhz processor in them without any fan. Now when your using that processor to the fullest, it IS going to get warm. This is what your going to get from any high performance electronic item without a cooling fan. It's not unacceptable, it's the way it is. 3G, bluetooth, and WiFi can be very processor intensive depending on use, imagine all 3 on at the same time, not to mention the added heat from rapid battery discharge (which is unavoidable when using the radio).
The designers of the phone are no idiots, they designed systems that shut the phone off if it's going to get damaged. So if your worried about the heat cause it's uncomfortable, don't work the sucker so hard! ;-)
Hi to all and thanks for the replies;
My theory is that if you buy an expensive phone you need to exploit until the limit. I bought the kaiser because is a phone that can give me almost any kind of connection and I can be connect online almost everywhere. I can't stand that If I use the 3G connection for 10 minutes the phones gets so warm. I use battery status too and the temperature is like 42F after I use the phone for 10 minutes.
Hello,
Is there an way to save my batterie? Like an other rom or an utilitie?
turn off your 3G if you don't neet it, or dimm the light of your screen.
Hello,
disable in external GPS the software port, use the PowerManagement.cab, disable all not needed (data) connections, if you only use GSM, go to the telephon settings and set manualy to GSM, ...
show also to my thread
greetings Frank
Hi
I have an experience with battery which might help you.
At first my diamond was able to keep up not more than 8 hours, and it warmed up pretty well, sometimes it worked as a portable hand heater! Specially when the WIFI was on. So I had to use headset.
After about 100 hours of use it stopped booting.
I took it for guaranty /repair. It took 2 weeks because they told me the mother board was gone!
They changed the motherboard. It’s about one week that I have it back and:
1-the heater is off!
2-the touch screen response is better.
3-the same battery life is over 16 hours!!!
(The ROM is 1.95.xxx which is the same too. )
Why? I don’t know. I guess there are different quality levels of CPUs and RAMs used in HTC production line or some parts are originally over clocked to meet some specification, but the side effect is overheating in some phones, and battery power is wasted to keep you warm
It would be nice if someone comes up with a test program to create temp.-load diagram for the phone, so the product can be checked before it burns out.

why are you people so suprised, in all production are more than three qualities.Do you think the Taiwan model is same quality with mine bought in Dubai?????
anyway try different RADIO.... i tried most of them one by one and I suggest to use the one that does not heat your phone to much because ... heat = energy
Thanks for the replys
So a new rom would be a good change? Which should i use?
i cant turn of 3g because i use HSDPA
i also gonna install powermanagemand.cab and i saw a link for the RADIO: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=432770
Thank you.
I try it.

Cool, i'll wait when the diamond is a little more known here in the netherlands and when they know more of the problems of the diamond. i hope they accept it for repair.
Disable GPS, Disable Wifi , Disable Blutooth ..
Or just turn off your Mobile and keep it off
I checked my phone"Device Information" for more info on the ROM
Rom version: 1.93.456.2.wwe (oops the1.95.xxx above was wrong)
Rom date: 07/10/08
Radio version: 1.00.25.05
Protocol version: 52.29.25.12H
AND
OH MY GOD....
The IMEI is chenged!!! is this called repair?
Hello,
I´m from Germany, so sorry for my bad english.
As long as I´m sitting at home an my Diamond lies on my Desktop the Battery works good. In Standby there is enougth power for about 2-3 Days. But for example when I´m going shopping with my Diamond (not using it) the Battery goes empty very fast. After 3 hours it is nearly empty and this can´t be normal I think?
The phone is in standby in both cases? Any ideas?
Hm, maybe it's the temperature? Not sure how hot it is there, but it may be it being in your pocket and just getting very hot.
I'm not too good with ideas.
hehe thank you, but i don´t think so... it´s deep winter in germany i think it has to do with the sensor, if i´m moving my telephone in my bag? any iusses?
Do you get full signal when at home?
Maybe there is very little signal at some of the places you go to. That can also cause the battery to drain.
well moving around would mean it change gsm connection a lot more
which would use more power but 3 hours sounds kinda wild
unless it's running gps when ever you move around
do you have the device in your pocket? if so it might be getting buttons pressed and keeps switching the screen on and off. Try carrying it in a bag and see if that helps.
Thats it... i think my GPS is turned off, how can i see, it´s really turned off?
Yes i carry it in my pocket, but its in standby mode, display off and locked...
the signal @ home is okay... same thing everywhere else... for example @ work... while my diamond lies on my desktop, everything is okay... but if a carry it around, the battery goes empty very fast.
my diamond is about 3 weeks old and i have tested 3 or 4 different roms... always the same.
(sorry for my bad englisch again, i´m german)
Don't you have any apps using the G-sensor all the time? That would explain it, because it could do something when the position changes, which happen a lot while you are walking.
I think the only Programm which uses GPS is the TomTom Navigator... But it´s always closed...
First post for me so sorry if it makes no sense,
I read on a dutch forum that cold weather drains the battery far more then warmer weather.
Don't know if it's true or not?
Cold weather does indeed drain the battery faster.
Cold makes electrical components operate more effiicently. This isnt a good thing as it means battery power drains faster. If your phone is cold, especially outside you can expect your battery to drain twice as fast. Your 10 hours standby are suddenly only 5.

but why the sudden increase? I mean I'm not having problems yet.
But I can imagine when you're working outside you're going to get issues.
And my older phones didn't make any noticable difference outside, I know the diamond has more electronics inside then my k800i from sony but when the phones in standbye all wireless apps off it shouldn't make that much difference should it?
Sry if my english isn't flawless I'm dutch and school was a long time ago
Hm, this may seem like a really really silly idea, but you could try something as like wrapping a cloth around your phone to keep it warm in your pocket/bag/etc and see how the battery life is.
Just an idea.
put it in the fridge and wait....
.... put your Diamond in the fridge and see if it drains your battery
then take your fridge outside and walk around and see if it gets worse
Without kidding: i went ice skating the last few days, took several foto's and video's and did not notice faster drain.
Hi,
just a proposal:
Have you tried f.e. with a programm like TaskManager (fdcsoft) to check whether there is some miscellanous cpu-usage?
Or maybe you can try to use the application 'nodata!' (see this forum) to first disable all not used connections and check your battery consumption afterwards with only the phone activated
Or - if its a gps problem - try to get the 'htc gps tool' (see this forum too) and check whether you gps is activated always
Hope s.th. helps (sorry for my bad english, but I'm from Germany too) - let us know
bye
Ralf
I have exactly the same problem!
I charge my diamond over night and its empty before the day is over!
I only make a few calls else its laying in my pocket locked with the ipod-like S2U2 slide thingy.
Frikin annoying
I use Nodata mms and 3g is disconected and i just bought a new bigger battery, same issue
Same problem here
I also have exactly the same problem as described by SaTanSJupp. Did somebody find a solution already?
Hello fellow...i just have my own diamond few weeks ago...i just currious about my phone....why when i charge it, it's so hot (no warm)..even for 5 minutes....n the battery drop easily...from full to empty takes less than 4-5 hours.....i guest my battery expired, then i bought a new one (not original), but still the same...the battery always droped....even i use plane mode (not phone mode) and standbye (not use at all)....anyone help me?? is it hardware problems or battery??
tks
It could be a program still running in the background. Did you try a hard reset?

Ok, this is going to sound odd but I need to know if our G1 phones with froyo installed could be "held on " if near a magnet when not in use.
I rooted my wifes G1 to match what I have in mine(chromer4.5). She has always had hers stock until now. After I got it all set up, the battery was horrendous while mine was fine. Same phone same age. She did install a couple of widgets I was not familiar with so I removed them 1 at a time. I removed a clock last night and left the phone, battery at 55 percent, on the table not charging. This morning, about 8 hours later, it was at 54 percent. I was sure the clock wan't it but I said "what the hell" and gave it back to her declaring the problem over. She charged it to full and stuck it in her case. By lunch it was at 35 percent. I was stunned. The only difference was it was in her case, one that closes with magnets in the flap. I know there is a car dock app for other phones that can use a magnet to turn on.
If any one actually took the time to read all that, is it possible there is some driver using the compass sensor to keep the phone running in the background when near a magnet?
Thanks,
I highly doubt this was a magnet. Its possible and no electronic device should be near a magnet anyway. But not sure. Did you check if she had more running processes going on than you? Is her screen set brighter than yours. Does she have her screen set to turn off at a certain time. Could of pressed against the case. Popped her screen on. And stayed on? This are all things to think about maybe.
sent from my superfroyo dream
I'm still trying things. I have mine "cooking" in the case now and the results so far are not conclusive. I lost 10 percent in 1 hour with phone doing nothing. I will keep trying different combinations until I think I know exactly what the pattern is. I have tried to set everything the same.
My next test will be to turn the phone around in the case. The magnet location is between the word 'google" and the camera.
I will also try to lay the magnet in the same spot and get a logcat to see if anything starts.
Any news yet? Id like to know. I'm learning from you also uno

I have tried so many things its hard to bring you up to date but I am 100 percent sure the case is the source of the battery loss.
I used the case for a day while my wife just kept her phone in a pocket. I was down to 20% in 4 hours of very light use while she had 83% left after 9 hours.
I do have an additional theory for why it drains the battery. It could be blocking the signal so the phone is constantly seeking signal while in the case.
Today she is going to put the phone in the case with the screen facing the magnets.
I will post the results of the test.
Hmmmmm wierd
sent from my superfroyo dream
The case must be pressing buttons on the phone, if ditching the case does not solve the problem.
-charge phone to %100
-turn off phone unplug charger
-reconnect charger and wait for led to turn green
-turn on phone and repeat until phone says %100 instantly and led turns green instantly.
^ This fixed my battery problems i recommend you try it either way (you might get some extra battery life).
Froyo + magnet = battery trouble ? why ?
