My nexus one has got some problems with its physical properties, gaps between backplate and the metal case and such, so i have just booked a repair, but my nexus is rooted, since there is no software problems surely that wont make a difference right? my warranty for its physical characteristics should still be in place and they shouldn't even turn it on?

Well it is fairly common knowledge that using a custom kernel can cause the phone to develop gaps at its physical layer (layer 1). It's basic OSI understanding.
Best of luck!

Do you really expect to get a definitive answer on here? Ask LG and they will tell you, but nobody here can possibly tell you for certain. You will get 9 different opinions from 7 different people - none of whom actually know at all.
I'm waiting for the person who is in contact with the processing of such cases, or had a defect

Read your warranty terms in mine says that warranty covers bad build quality, not well made phone.
PS. My warranty is not directly to LG it is to local shop. So i guess LG warranty will cover those problems as well.
They will tell you to wait probably. But they must accept your phone for repair you can't just wait whole screen to come off.
And if you can take some picture of it... to give us a better idea of whats going on there.
So I've got two M7s, but one's got a bit of a scratch (you know the ones that are screen wide and have slightly bent the phone near the back?). Is there any possible way to swap out the S/N, P/N, and IMEI either by flashing or otherwise so I can claim the one for a screen repair under the guise of my newer phone? Or should I just be an honest man and just buy the components individually

afaik, changing/swapping IMEI's is illegal in most (if not all) countries, and i believe only the manufacturer has the right to do that.
Be honest!!
Thread closed,
The best thing to do is to simply send the device in for repair as is. At XDA we would never condone any actions that could void warranty etc.
Many thanks,
Ghost
I'm thinking if it breaks in any other way than through bricking from flashing. I want to root it for reasons, but it's also very new (for me). I'll of course backup the original.
Or do they have some way of checking that?
Rooting shouldn't void your warranty (in Huawei's case) :
9. This Warranty does not cover defects and damage resulting from:
a) Normal wear and tear of the equipment or otherwise due to the normal aging of the equipment.
b) The Product being used other than in a normal and customary manner.
c) Any disassembly, repair, alteration or modifications carried out by anyone other than HUAWEI or an Authorised Service Center.
d) Misuse, abuse, negligence or an accident howsoever caused.
e) Improper testing, operation, maintenance, installation, or any alteration or modification of the Product.
f) Spillage of food or liquids, corrosion, rust or the use of wrong voltage.
g) Scratches or damage to plastic surfaces and all other externally exposed parts due to normal use.
h) Use outside of use permitted under the Product’s user manual.
10. This Warranty will not be available: a) if the serial number or warranty seal on the Product is illegible, has been defaced or removed; or, b) without any proof of purchase.
11. The Warranty applies to the Product as originally supplied. The Warranty does not apply to any software or other equipment owned by HUAWEI or third parties however, you should check the end-user license agreement, separate warranty/ guarantee statement(s) and/or any exclusions which are provided or intended to apply to such items.

I assume this is common knowledge on this forum. Can someone else confirm?
Edit: Root page says you need bootloader to install root, soo....
Only on Marshmallow. On Lollipop root can be obtained without unlocking bootloader.

Thanks, don't need any more info. Gonna buy some NFC sticker buttons instead of trying to remap my volume keys for listening to music.

I have to warn you though. I checked the link for the software, and it was dead. You can use Google's... something or other NFC reprogramming stuff, but it's some work. I just ordered them to mess around with.

Oh... I am gonna try ordering one of these then. I did find some chinese knockoffs but the reviews really are bad. I remember seeing one of these from Dimple on youtube, looked quite nice.
I have a problem with my Note 8, the speaker has gotten wet a little over two weeks ago and it is not working well, I have not even submerged the phone, so I called Samsung's warranty and they tell me that the warranty does not cover that type of sinister for which I have to pay for the repair, then I want to brick my device to the point that I never turn it on again and so I change it for a new one, does anyone know how I can definitely brick? my version is Exynos, I tried to flash the firmware of the SD version but Odin will not let me do it.

I have a home owners insurance that covers theft, loss or damage to mobile devices too. Maybe you could try that if you have one too. BTW why isn`t water damage covered when its IP 68 rated?

It looks like my previous post did not post so i will repeat it. The reason it isnt covered is because theres no way to prove the phone did not go past the IP68 rated depth or timeframe.
To the OP. Sadly your method will mostlikely not work and you will be without a phone altogether because you already called and "admitted" water damage. Because of that your warranty is probably void altogether.

I have a samsung galaxy note 9 on sprint currently, the phone was dropped and smashed but not too a unrepairable extent. I currently put a new battery, charger port, and wireless coil. The phone won't charge still unless I use my s20 ultra as a wireless charger which says its charging but I cannot get a light, vibration, or any screen activity so I'm guessing the motherboard is most likely toast. There is no water damage and I will be replacing the screen glass I was hoping I could get a image before I ordered one lol but the real question is the phone is on sprint I was wondering if I can purchase a N960F international model motherboard and use it in the N960u shell. I want exynos for the simplicity of rooting. Also The charger port I installed was off ifixit and labeled for the n960u, n960f, n960fd but read somewhere there's a difference in charging ports? Any information is greatly appreciated. This phone will most likely be used on AT&T
Does anybody have any insight on this issue?
I you dropped and made damage anything, i guess you might have the same issues, but otherwise if motherboard fits in place correctly it should work, the F variant is exynos ad should work with all networks, and sure you can root it.
No guarentee it will be a pin for pin swamp or that the subassembly components/firmware will be compatable.
I think it's unlikely to work.
You need someone that did it to know for sure otherwise it could be a big lick on you. Even if it's possible no guarantee the replacement mobo is good or won't be damaged during installation (think ESD). If you had all the major components you have little to lose otherwise you might be kicking a dead horse.
With that much damage buying a working one with the right configuration be a better bet...

I'm sure to be careful with my electronics, but you are right. Looking at tons of pictures the motherboards seem identical in size, all the parts I bought said they were compatible with both models ill be using all n960u parts other than the motherboard. I read somewhere the charger flex is different but I can't see or find any ones that are different, also same for the cameras. This will be a pretty sweet experiment I guess. If they screen works the cracks in the display aren't too bad that it wouldn't be usable. I'd save about 80$ (if I don't buy a bdot replacement) all in all spending about 200$ in replacement parts. Not too bad if you ask me. Considering it's my gfs old phone that she didn't end up paying off since it broke I don't think it'll be a bad deal
I'll be sure to update any progress I have the motherboard will be in around the 15th of march
I changed my mind, perhaps rubber conectors are different?

Screen, camera or USB connection cable might be different size or location.
Boards may look same but their functionality may differ as both boards have different CPUs. snapdragon variat have FM radio enabled so 3.5mm jack may have different port configuration same goes with cameras and so on..... Best is to buy a exynos variant F model.

On the Note 10+ there are 2 Snapdragon C port PCB variants that look identical but are completely incompatible and not interchangeable.
Any update on this swap?
