more NOOB questions - Touch HD Windows Mobile ROM Development

I am about to swap to a new ROM on my HTC touch HD and since i am a noob i have some questions here.
1 Is it easier to use a pc with XP than with windows 7?
2 To find out what spl version you have you have to put your phone in bootloader mode, is that correct?
3 If i use a pc with windows 7 when flashing i have read that you have to install new drivers to your HTC SYNC, is that correct and where can i find those drivers?
4 HSPL vs USPL what is the most noob friendly one?
Thank you for reading this and i would be very glad if i can get some help.

Not much use having a whole thread on it.. Its idiot proof
USPL has its own thread, so does hSPL so look at them (stickied)
-download rom
-run RUU
-press next once
-in the folder of the RUU youl see RUU_Signed.nbh
-Rename the nbh file BLACIMG.nbh
-copy to sd card..
-keep hold of down volume button and pres power simultaniously
-And there you go
loading... Checking...
-Press power button and wait
Soft reset

Flashing by sd card goes like this
Format the SDcard to FAT32, rename the RUU_signed.nbh to Blacimg.nbh
1. Copy BLACIMG.NBH into the root dir of your Storage Card.
2. Be sure to have at least 30% of charge.
3. Turn off your device . Fully power the device off by long press of power key.
4. Go to bootloader mode. Push and hold Vol Down + press Power button.
5. As soon as presented the message, push Power button to start flashing or Volume Down button to cancel.
6. The whole procedure will take about 3 minutes. After you finish and see the relative message, hard reset your device, you are ready.

So downloading the ROM, i have been looking at duttys, so i will download that. That sounds like the easy part
Next step, run RUU, im a noob i dont know what run RUU means but the way you descripe it, it sounds like a program am i right?
I suppose when i know what that means the next steps will explain themselfes
Copy to SD card, should i use an empty card or will the one in the phone do?
And by soft reset i suppose you mean pressing the button on the back on the phone or am i wrong there.
After this i done i am ready to install the custom rom?
Cheers and thank you for your help
Forca.
PS. I actually managed to jailbreak my iphone, it was piece of cake compared to what this seems to be DS

Sadly it isn't quite that simple
HSPL allows you to flash roms from SDCard. Read the HSPL thread (linked to above) for information on installing HSPL to your phone; this will allow you to install custom roms from 1.56 onwards (anything from the last 12 months really). It won't work using SDCard method without updating HSPL as the stock Blackstone uses 1.19 SPL.
When you download a rom it should come in a zip file containing ruu_signed.nbh and customruu.exe. Using USPL method you need updated drivers for Win 7 (as described above), plug your phone in in activesync mode and run the customruu.exe and follow the instructions. USPL updates your SPL from 1.19 to 1.56 to allow for flashing while your phone is plugged in (tethered flashing). HSPL updates the SPL permanently (unless you downgrade it again), allowing for untethered flashing.
Using HSPL/SDCard method you rename the ruu_signed.nbh from the rom zip file to blacimg.nbh and copy it to your SDCard. Then start your phone in bootloader (hold vol down and power on) and follow the instructions. At the end pull out the battery and put it back in to restart your phone.
This guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505377 stickied in the rom forum will hold your hand through the process all the way. Use it and you have no excuse to not flash a shiny new rom in the next 20 mins. Preferably 1 of my roms

Up to you really. I prefer HSPL myself, but only because I can't be bothered to plug my phone in all the time.

Use the dummy guide by Digital Outcast!
It gives a step by step guide to flashing, including updating the drivers in Vista/Win7.
I use USPL myself, because it will reset your SPL at the end of each flash session, so if you ever need to flash back to stock (for warranty purposes) you'll have no problem returning to the standard SPL.
However HSPL is reversable aswell (though you need to do this manually).

dont forget that hspl voids youre warranty if you send it in with hspl on it
so if you go the hspl way dont forget to put back on original spl

Suppose i will use my pc with XP on when i do it since i read that you dont have to update htc sync drivers.
Thank you all for the help

OMG, Help! - Cannot Boot

So I am trying to Re-Flash my T-Mobile Wing.
I HAD TouchIT Vista on my Phone and wanted to put on a new version.
While trying to re-flash, like i did before, I would connect to my phone, then it would drop while starting the flash. So I decided to flash on the Stock ROM. Now, being a complete idiot, I started the Flash (BAT file) before putting Itsutils.dll into the Windows folder... Now I cannot boot into my phone. But I CAN boot into BootLoader.
I dont know how to use BootLoader tho. What do I do to get this back up and running? Dear god, I hope I didn't brick my Phone!
Try the Following:
Got to this link, post #2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=421304
-download the Herald-USPL-Beta 3 file found on post#2
-extract the flash center folder to your desktop
-extract the nbh file from your stock rom using winrar or 7zip
-place the nbh file in the ruu folder within the flash center folder
-run the utility
*if my instructions arent clear to you, there is a full tutorial on the link that i gave you
hope this helps!!

Yes, I know how to get into Bootloader, but How do I execute this stuff in bootloader?
I do not show a connection to ActiveSync (Or in this case, Windows Mobile Device Center) when I am in BootLoader.

My Process:
-Load Bootloader...Ok
-Connect USB...Ok
-Start ActiveSync...Ok
-ACTIVESYNC, NOT CONNECTED..
-Start Stock ROM Utility
-No Device Connected
Going to try it with HERALD-USPL-beta3 instead of Stock-ROM now..
while in bootloader, read your spl number. is it lower than 4.0.0.0?
No.
Bootloader Screen:
IPL 4.10.0002
SPL 4.70.Yang
USB
EDIT:
How long Should I let herald-uspl.exe from Flash Center run before I give up on it?
your device should be able to run the ruu.exe provided by tmobile.
any luck with the uspl?

uspl doesnt seem to be going anywhere (10 min now, still step 1)
I am downloading a different Tmo rom (not the bat files i hope)

are you getting any error messages?
if the ruu.exe doesn't run on the bootloader and uspl isn't working, then unfortunately, i am at a loss.

Okay, So now I am in a bit of a pickle... lolz
Ran the TMo Stock ROM...
It Kills my ActiveSync connection immediatly.. Doesnt see my phone.
So I reinstalled, restarted.
Retry...
Saw my phone.
Started to install. Got to 1%, then my phone booted out of BootLoader, now is back at the TouchIt Loading screen (where it is frozen).
EDIT1:
Yeah, I did the Recovery Process... It keeps going to 1% then Restarting.
EDIT2:
OMG, loading now!
Next Update Soon! (42%)
if you are getting to 1% and it is rebooting, then you should be able to use uspl to fully flash a rom. just put the nbh from your stock rom into the ruu folder and run uspl. that worked for me.

OMG Back to Stock ROM! ****in Yey!
The Stock RUU was able to complete (When it rebooted @ 1%, I forced it back into BootLoader) it then rebooted again, but actually finished this time.
congrats
i've been through that process a long time ago i know how u feel lol
sweet. next time you want to flash a rom, just use uspl. it works for me flawlessly every time.

Well, my problem came from ActiveSync... No matter what I did, It would disconnect. (This is after trying 6 DIFFERENT PCs [2 Vista] and failing) so I was trying other ways to Flash. Never again. Lolz.
EDIT:
Back at it... Flashing Hard-SPL now. lolz.
USPL totally works better... lolz.
well, its good to see that you are back in business

flashing didnt take

ive just tried to flash my touch hd and it doesnt install winmo6.5.
atm it brings it to 1.15 spl, then i run HSPLWrapper_Blackstone_156OliNex.exe with .nbh inside the same folder. (when doing update it doesnt state the current version not sure if this is normal tho)
it loads 1.54 spl. then i ran uspl gui again to bring it back down to 1.15 and then ran BlackstoneRUUWrapper.exe to load 1.56+ rom
so what am i doing wrong
Please Please read the HSPL Tread and follow it step by step. If you run USPL you will have the SPL 1.15 temporaly. After reset its gone.
If you flash HSPL you will have a HARD SPL till you flash another SPL version. You can check the version you installed if you enter the bootloader by vol down and power on. If you run USPL you will always see 1.15.
i have. but ive got spl 1.54 with winmo6.1 .shudnt i have 6.5? btw i followed post 3 for uspl which is what i wanted
1. install new USB HTC sync driver
2. start activesync and under connection settings uncheck allow usb connection option
3. start your device in boot loader mode (vol down + power)
4. connect to your usb cable
4. run uspl gui 2.5
5. run blackstone custo ruu wrapper and follow the instruction
More importantly, why create a new thread when a dummies guide to flashing thread and HSPL thread already exist. Please read forum rules before creating a new thread and in future post your flashing queries in one of the threads mentioned above.

NEED HELP!!! How to reflash device

Hi,
I have to reflash my HTC to put the warranty back because I have to send it to HTC
I´m trying to follow:
ow to reflash Stock/Shipped SPL - STEP BY STEP - FOR WARRANTY REASONS ONLY!
0. please make sure you already flashed stock ROM and radio, because stock SPL flash is *always* the last step before sending the device in.
1. download the Relocker attachment, extract the zip and run the EXE on your PC
2. if you wish to replace RUU_Signed.NBH that got extracted, feel free to do so, but not necessary (this Hard-SPL will only allow overwrite with a SPL signed by our custom cert). the included one is the 0.79.0000 stock SPL. you also have the option for 0.84.0000 and 0.87.0000, see the attachments.
3. flash
4. verify if it flashed by checking version in tricolour screen, it should say 0.79.0000 (or 0.84.0000 or 0.87.0000), not 0.85.OliNex.
But when I click in the relocker.exe there is no extraction of file and the computer isn´t doing nothing. I copy the RUU_Signed.NBH to the memory card and power down and start with vol down + power and appears like its trying to load the file but nothing (its just a second)
Any ideas? Someone could help me?
Thank you for your support

1.What Kind Of HTC Phone Do You Have?
2.What OS Are You Running On Your Computer?
I Need To Know This Info In Order To Further Help You
I have Windows 7 (32bits). I tried with another Windows 7 (64bits) and the same
The device is a HTC Touch Pro2 Sim Free
Thank you
This should really be in the HardSPL thread. But if your PC isn't extracting anything from the zip file, then it's probably your anti-virus software blocking it (try turning it off).
I don´t have antivirus hahahahah
NO worries, i´ll try tomorrow from a Windows XP in my job ;-0
try what steviewevie said in the above post & also with windows 7 you have to right click on the relocker.exe & run as administrator or it won't work
here try this relocker.exe to see if it works for you Relocker.exe

[Q] HTC Touch Diamond 2, not flashing

Dear Honorable Seniors, I am so obsessed to get some troubles with my htc (Touch Diamond 2).
I want to get rid off from my ROM that is already available on it (I dont how to find it is official or cooked and which is that version or name). I try to download many cooked ROMs to flash but tried two:
1-energy
2-mozart
but everytime flashing process stopped at 0% percent and after 6-7mint it display a window for recovery. I do restart my system and got the prior windows version, no flashing at all.
I thought there may be Hard-SPL issue (although I dont know what is it). I download its compatible version and try to flash Hard-SPL it also stuck at 0% and not moving upwards.
Help will be appreciated in their respect.
Sorry if my english not comprehendable I am not english speaking person.

1. Install HSPL. Follow instructions in the thread.
2. Install custom ROM.
You cannot install a ROM until you have installed HSPL first.
I think Muqaddas has already tried HSPL as he described in the post, but the progress stuck @ 0%.
Muqaddas, may be you can try below:
- Disable antivirus software, temporarily, on your PC
- Do HSPL (1.83 and update to 2.51)
- Use Advance ROM Update Utility to do a Task 29.
- Upgrade to latest Radio ROM, if not latest.
- Flash the ROM you wanted.
Hope this will help you .
Thanks.
dear prabhat thank to reply me dear:

WIN7 could be your issue, it is best to use XP. Also it is important to install the enablenewrapi.cab
You can check your SPL level by entering bootloader mode (holding Volume Down as device reboots until you get to the tri-colored screen)to verify that your SPL: version has "Olinex" as a suffix.
How to flash?
RUU.exe method;
1. Download enablenewrapi.cab, copy to your device with ActiveSync (WMDC) and execute the cab.
2. Download Topaz_CustomRUU_v1.1.zip and both the 1.83 and 2.51 HSPL files.
3. Place the CustomRUU.exe and the RUU_Signed.nbh file from the 1.83 version into the same folder on your PC.
4. With your device sync'd, run the CustomRUU.exe and follow the prompts on your PC.
5. If successful, the progress bar will go to 100% and you can enter bootloader mode (holding Volume Down as device reboots until you get to the tri-colored screen)to verify that your SPL: version has "Olinex" as a sufffix.
If so, you've successfully flashed HSPL.
Repeat steps 3-5 for 2.51
If unsuccessful....
SD Card Method;
1. Rename the RUU_Signed.nbh to TOPAIMG.nbh and place on the root of your FAT32 formatted SD card.
2. Enter bootloader mode and it should initiate the flash. You may get an error of "No Image Found" or you get progress bar stuck at 0%. This would be a failed flash, just soft reset and you'll be back to stock.
If still unsuccessful....
Try the HardSPL_V5_00R5_183HSPL.zip
my respectable serniors please help me out, I tried to change the PC which has Windows XP, and followed all the procedures you all honored but still stock on 0%.....
dear I try to flash PHOTON ROM through storage card by renaming it and placing it into the root of SD card but not being flashed................
please help
HI Muqaddas,
The issue seems to be somewhere in HSPL and the device is not ready for any custom ROM yet. I dont think PC OS has anything to do here unless the "Antivirus S/W is disabled".
Once you device is CID unlocked you should able to install any ROM .
But as you are telling you can see "1.83.OliNex" in the Bootloader... so Can you try to update that to 2.51 and see if that work?
Also try searching the "error code---262" in the HSPL thread, whihc may give you some idea...
EDIT:
ERROR [262] : UPDATE ERROR
This error occurs during the CE ROM code upgrade process.
Solution: If this happens, you can just soft-reset the device and run RUU again. The update process will then continue.
Note: At this stage, the Wince is destroyed; instead, it is in upgrade mode.
As you said you can see the OliNex in bootloader your device is CID unlocked.
Can you try below and see if that work:
1) Upgrade your HSPL to 2.51.
2) Start Windows Mobile Device Center
3) Start your device in TriColor boot loader mode.
3) Connect you USB to PC and and make sure your device bootloader white screen say "USB"
4) Now start flashing from PC using RUU.
See if this work else try "SD Card Method" suggested by Bruce.
Hope this will help...
Thanks.
On Ur phone go to Settings-> Connections -> USB to PC & "uncheck" the option Enable faster data synchronization & then try ...worked for me
I am sorry to be desperate but after following all the precedures suggested in this place I am not successful...
I was hopefull that I might flash my TOPAZ after getting 512mb card and after many struggles I arranged it for flashing .....
but after bootloader it stuched at
loading.....
please help if someone can
Try restoring your bootloader to the stock, flash a Windows stock ROM, then come back with HSPL and custom ROM.
Hey, May be you can go to service center near to you and ask them to install new ROM so that they will install new ROM and may be try to unlock the phone if it is with them...
Once they install new ROM then I think you can continue HSPL here and have fun .
Thanks.
Dear Hamsn, Where I can get Windows stock ROM, Please any link or description......
You can get that from HTC website of your region.
Goto: http://www.htc.com/uk/selectcountry.aspx
Select your country -> Click Support -> Select your device and download the latest ROM update.
Of you can grab from here: http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=windows mobile&model=Topaz
(File: RUU_Topaz_S2_HTC_WWE_2.53.405.5_Radio_Signed_Topaz_61.44etc.25.35_4.49.25.91_Ship.exe)
Just sync your device in PC and run the above file and all should get updated .
Cheers!!!

[Resources] Flashing your First CDMA Rhodium Rom (For Noobs)

This tutorial is for flashing RHOD400 & RHOD500 CDMA+GSM Global phones.
In this tutorial some good ROM links are given also.
Thanks to xda members OliNex, mskip, cajunflavoredbob, HTC0017, wizardknight, arrrghhh
To install / flash new ROMs in your device you have to follow 2 major steps
1. Flashing HardSPL
2. Flashing the ROM
Now, I strongly suggest all of you to kindly download the proper STOCK ROM for your device because if anything goes wrong, you can switched to your main shipped ROM.
Check if your device is GSM or CDMA(GSM+CDMA), read this Post
GSM Stock ROMs here
CDMA Stock ROMs here
These are the steps to be followed.
1. Flashing HardSPL
NOTE: If you already installed HardSPL in your RHOD400, RHOD500 device, you will not need this update.
: it's like with previous Hard-SPL unlockers - every user gets one free use of the Hard-SPL, further use is subject to paying 3GBP per each device. However, if you are a private user, you can have other uses free on request if needed, such as using it on a replacement device.
the license is valid forever and all this works as transparently as possible, so for normal users nothing is noticable.
Preparations:
0) this package is for Rhodium CDMA-GSM worldphone version only (CDMA Touch Pro 2, not the original Touch Pro) devices. only RHOD400, RHOD500 modelids are accepted. this Hard-SPL supports WM6.5.
1) if you have Vista / Windows 7, WMDC update to 6.1 (or whatever is latest) is recommended.
Steps:
1) download newest RhodiumW Hard-SPL package and extract this to an empty folder.
2) you must Have Phone Synced with PC in Windows Mobile!!! the device needs to be connected to Activesync or WMDC via USB cable. and it must not be in Flight/Airplane mode (i.e. the phone part should be on).
3) internet access is required as the program checks online for updates and for the license.
4) run Rhodium-HardSPL.exe on your PC, make sure it's launched from a local drive (not through network drive, etc.). running it on XP requires Admin logon, and Vista/Windows 7 will automatically prompt to allow it to run in Admin mode, so allow it please.
important: if you get an antivirus warning, please ignore it, it contains no harmful code (just used a packer to compress it). if you encounter DEP errors, then add it to the exception list in DEP settings.
5) follow steps as prompted in the Hard-SPL program. if this is the first run of Hard-SPL on a device after hard reset, you must select Automatic flash mode (the first button in Welcome screen).
notes: you should usually go for Automatic flash mode; the Manual flash option is only to be used as noted below - any other errors triggered while running in Autoflash mode will have to be fixed as instructed in the error message.
6) it will ask you to wait while it prepares for the flashing, press OK.
7) now it should go through without any error messages, if one does pop up, then please follow the instructions included in the error text. if no specific instruction is shown, then ask for help in the forums, but this should not ever occur (as this means a really fatal error occurred).
at this point the device did hopefully went to a black screen. this is the SSPL version, which is temporary. then RUU (Rom Update Utility) will instantly launch.
9) some notes: when RUU says it will perform a hard reset and cause data loss, do not worry, it is not going to do this. also when it says the flash will take 10 minutes, ignore that, it will only take a minute or so.
10) SPL flashes, device automatically reboots, job done.
11) to confirm you got it installed, go into bootloader mode (tricolour screen!) and verify the screen shows 1.00.OliNex, which is the current Hard-SPL version.
More Notes:
NOTE 1: you will not see the SPL version during normal boot, that is the OS version, not SPL!
to enter SPL to check version, you need the following key combination: Power Button + Volume Down + Reset Button. means, do a soft reset while holding the "volume down" key and power key on the side of the device. hold these keys until you see a special tricolour screen which is the bootloader mode.
NOTE 2: this is unsigned Hard-SPL. no limitations on flashing ROMs (except of course some Radio roms). also, this has overwrite protection against HTC RUU's overwriting HSPL with a stock one, so if someone needs to revert to stock SPL for warranty reasons, a stock SPL downgrade package is posted on our site. use this relocker *only* if you need to return the phone for warranty, and only use it as last step - after reflashing stock OS and radio. see steps at the end of this post about how to reflash stock SPL.
NOTE 3: anyone having USB problems with the device after it already entered SSPL mode, please copy SSPL-Manual-Rhodium.exe from SSPL-Manual-RhodiumW.zip (available on our site), copy it to the device and run it. then once the screen has gone black, run the Hard-SPL package on the PC and you must select Manual flash option. *important*: make sure that the USB cable is plugged in and device is synced to Windows Mobile even if doing manual method.
NOTE 4: do not use this RUU for anything other than SPL flashing (i.e. hardspl or stock spl restore)!!! nothing other than SPL's made by Olinex team will flash to make SSPL more secure. if you want to flash some other rom, then use shipped RUU or a customRUU if you need to flash cooked ROMs.
NOTE 5: supported OS versions: both 32-bit and 64-bit XP, Vista, Windows 7RC and later. Windows 2000 was untested, and pre-RC win7 (lower than build 7100) is explicitly not supported. also, the program may be unstable or not work on Virtual systems, so it's recommended to try outside Virtual OS software.

first, "OliNex" is a team which means: cmonex + Olipro
Olipro -> concept of EXE program that runs on the PC, Hard-SPL concept, server-side license code and maintaining the licenses.
cmonex -> HSPL package on PC, SSPL loader for windows mobile and SSPL binary. Hard-SPL binary. (SSPL loader: partially based on haret and old pof&Olipro jumpspl code),
