shifts ram chip
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=491109&highlight=ftoz
Hi i am interesting in it. I find chip and his replacement one. The big problem is that ram and flash disk is on one chip and when y replace it, have device without any software, any bootloader. I dont know, if its possible to flash some soft from win7 to absolutly clean chip.I admire shift with 256MB rom, it will be good for this device dou to lock 3d. I cant find if msm7200 support it, but hope that yes, msm7201a have normaly 256MB ram

To upgrade Shift Rom/ram will need a new enabled rom to read new size memory chips and obviously a new set of chips compatible.
I dont know about wiping all memory would erase bootloader too dont think but in case will need to comunicate with msm xscale directly.
Maybe someone that is here since 2 years ago will remember this has been done to Universal device.
look here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_128MBRAM
Good days Mamaich!

But shift is no univerzal, look at pictures on open shift. ram and flash rom memory(for winmobile) is interrated in one chip. If y wish change ram memory, must change flash rom memory. samsung usually made double size rom/ram. It means that y want 256MB ram, it have 512 MB rom. but this chip must be supported by chipset

have anyone msm7200 service chip specification? I see some publicity specification, but there was nothing about ram support

Readyboost

Is there any equivalent to Readyboost for our devices. I ask because I really love some of the newer ROM's out there but find them unusable due to out of memory messages. If I could dedicate say another 256mb to act as RAM it would make the Diamond much faster and capable of doing more.
Any comments would be appreciated and this is the wrong section sorry, feel free to put it in the right place.
not any type of virtuel mem is not currently supported by wm
i have to say in WM it would be a nice idea, but in vista its just crap imho... just get some more ram in your pc.. it isnt that hard... but for a phone it is
with vista it stop'd helping if you had 1GB of memory
and getting vista on a computer with less then 1GB mem was
crazy anyway

Adding Extra Ram...

Is it possible to add extra Ram to the Dream by way of soldering a new Chip in?
Anything is possible, but no one has made the attempt yet.
tricky buisness but its possible
in school we are soldering electronic components and i was wondering bout this also, but upgrade to what?? what is available out there for our phones
This is a very interesting topic for future development; however, I do not think the phone manufacturers are likely to oblige requests from the more hardcore users for power and memory upgrades. As all developers currently design for an exact type of device, allowing for those types of changes may diversify the market in a negative way.
The users have circumvented the 80mb system storage limit with "APPS2SD" and similar functionality, which I think is wonderful, but I await the person with the inclination to upgrade other types of hardware in a more "permanent" manner. I personally would love to have a faster machine, just so I'm not dealing with lag in heavier applications.
There is always the venue of creating a swap file, although I'm not certain what the performance cut is over a potential physical RAM upgrade. Would be worth researching.
Considerations..
When swapping chips..lots of things have to be taken into consideration..voltages of new ram..power consumption...also physical space limitations...Ill def follow this..
I think there even used to be companies a while ago that did this, for specific phones like the treo 650. What would you need the RAM upgrade for? Apps2SD is great..

Rosie.... DUH!
RAM is faster than MicroSD, however I haven't benchmarked the speed of the internal memory myself. Apps2SD is just used as extra storage not memory... Unlike what compcache/linux swap would actually do.
There has been a few threads already about people thinking about adding extra RAM into their G1, however you would have to find a suitable supplier of said RAM chips (same specifications bar size) and then you could attempt it.
I'm stuck though on an 18 month contract and can quite happily see me upgrading the G1 for a SnapDragon CPU model.

Android 2.1 on ELFin?

I don't have a HTC Vogue to run Android,i just have a ELFin.
I really hope that Android rom for Vogue can run on ELFin,is that possible?
Plz tell me why.
thanks
you cant use them the elfin, for 2 big reasons
1. our phones along with the kaiser, polaris, and nike all use an ARM MSM 7xxx based processor, the elf runs an OMAP Processor so without heavy changes to the code there is no way to run it, which means it wont work
2. memory constraints, while the vogue is not exactly a high memory phone the elf has even less, this is also the same reason why the titan has a hard time running android
you could probably make it work but you would have to recode alot of stuff
ok,so i'm not a programer.
But Touch can run Android 1.5,so I think it can run the 2.1 rom.
any body can run SenseUI rom for this?

for cdma touch, yes. for gsm touch, no. again, you have too little memory.
but ELFin has 128MB ram and 256MB rom
and that is isn't enough?

sorry, sorry - elfIN, not elf. ok, it does have enough memory. but you'd need a working kernel as the 2nd post mentions.

there is a project called wing-linux. Its for Omap850 devices. haret is used to run android, so you can easily go back to wm. But at the moment there is only Android 1.5.
it's ok but that project isn't so good, the speed is too slow and that is just for fun

[Q] Possible a Windows Phone 7 ROM for Topaz?

Is it possible a Windows Phone 7 ROM for Topaz?
In the conference, seems WP7 is pretty amazing...
From what I understand, our phones don't have enough horsepower to run WP7. Gotta have at least a 1ghz processor. There are other requirements also but I can't remember them.
yeah true, but do we really need 1ghz. There is always the option, that most topaz users, would not want the entire OS, rather few things from it. Then i dont think we need 1GHZ.
What do you think?
I think the 1GHz and 576mb RAM is needed for Xbox life. Those new HTC phones will play most of Xbox360 games http://www.htc.com/europe/product/7trophy/overview.html
With ours Htc diamonds 2 we can't play xbox game ,but i think all other parts from os will be operating normally like as wm6.5.

I don't think you will be able to play 360 games in WM7, you can access and update information on your xbox live account, and talk to friends, etc, but you wont be able to play your 360 games on your phone, windows phone 7 has its own games coming to it....

Maybe, but watch the trailer for HTC HD7 ,there the show real game play maybe i'm wrong ,but think about it.Sony has portable console -PSP ,but Xbox doesn't so, with those phone with those parameters Xbox have a portable console and it's on your phone ,but we will see when someone buy one of those HTC with wm7 and will share his experience
It's been answered many times in main WP7 thread, strict hardware requirements are needed more, if performance is not a matter, there must exist another WP7 device with a similar Qualcomm MSM7200 platform to extract drivers from.
The simple answer is NO and I really doubt there would be one.

I must say by the standart no....But I know that the wp7 UI seems a low ram eater. We just need some awesome hackers that extract the basic rom and place all the features except for some like the xbox part in a rom we could use. Manilla 2.5 or sense was developed for hd2 and where using it. I beleive ut could be done. I think this requirements where made to bring the best of the phone and don't be stuck behind the lame and false publisity of the iphone.
...just we have to wait for WM7 kitchen...

Yes, it is and I'm sure that will be a WM7 ROM for Topaz.
Of course, it could be better to have 1GHz processor but don't forget that Topaz can be safely overclocked to about 700 MHz and also don't forget that there are a lot of marketing reasons to NOT encourage porting WM7 on older mobile phones.
Sorry for bring up an old thread. Just wanna say something.
From a developer standpoint nothing is completely impossible. If someone were to make a direct port from WP7 to a slower device with less ram then some modifications will need to be done to it. This could mean leaving some parts of wp7 out (which may cause instability to applications that require those features) or developing a custom version of a system file for use in WP7 for the phone in question (also may cause instability if the programmer doesn't know what he/she's doing). Obviously it's not a simple "cut and paste" from WM to WP7.
Also, I have already tried to extract a NBH rom with WP7 on it in a WM rom extractor, just to test and see if the format was the same. The formats are different. They have differences in their sections so any normal WM boot loader wouldn't be able to load a WP7 rom in a WM rom format. A solution would probably be to flash a new boot loader to support WP7 roms however this is dangerous and has a very high risk of bricking your device (after all, the one thing that can really save you from bricking your device is your boot load to flash a new rom, so messing with the boot loader itself can do your device in for good unless you have a backup boot loader just lying around).
Take these words into consideration if you're working on a port.

hmm Actually, you dont NEED a 1ghz processor, however you need a v7 instruction capable processor. TOPAZ has a v6 one, so its a no go.
On the other hand, if devs could get their hands on a the source code, remove the xbox live and strip high-requirement features then make the rom available on it should work, however WP7 was written to take advantage of v7 technology.

No it is not possible as MS need different hardware for WP and WM devices does not fit in there except the HD2 (I love my HD2 for this).
But I dont have a HD2 and only have TD2 at present. OK I will have to stay with WinMO 6.5 till I get a new WP7 mobile
Thank you all.

RAM in G1

Hi
I asking how much ram is you getting in a g1
I'm running froyobylazlo and getting beetween 20 - 30 mb free ram
Is any possibility to increase the amount of avaliable ram?
I'm also using the radio hack
Sent from my HTC Dream using xda premium
yes, use a smaller rom, use cmtd or possibly update your radio/spl.
i assume your radio hack refers to the 2708+ (dont think fbl works with out it) so you should be good here. search for a thread on custom mtd. this is the mapping layout for your phone. you can adjust how much space is given to the system and cache. with fbl i think you can gain at least 20mb this way. and if you dont mind changing roms there are some that are a bit smaller that can help you trim down a bit too.
good luck!

i should pay more attention to what i read!
ram something like 96mb, remember these phones are the dinosaurs of smartphones, well android anyway. the hardware is around 4 years old and wasnt set up to run todays android or todays apps. so it will always seem slow. you will find that using a task killer isnt always the best way to free up ram, you could end up with lost text messages or alarms not going off and such, i know we wont to try anything for our old phones so try something more like watchdog that will tell you if an app is actually slowing the cpu or not.
ram in our android phones is not like ram in your pc, for android ram almost full isnt bad it means things will load faster
im guessing you asking this because your phone is slow, the best fix is a 1.6 rom or a new phone! even with overclocking our phones cpu arent fast enough for what we need, froyobylaszlo is a good rom, not much better or faster so with out a good way of freeing ram or adding speed just be happy with what you have!
running COS-DS, have 40+MB ram free all the time
