Every time I use the Track Location feature, it fails. I've uninstalled and reinstalled and it still won't work. It takes me to San Francisco instead of Chicago(which is where I live). It used to work the week I got the wing (about 2 weeks ago). It's pretty much stock. I don't use any ROM's and have even performed a clear storage. Any help would be appreciated. I have done a search.
Still isn't working.
It tells me to check the GPS settings. I haven't changed them nor do I know how.
Have you tried with a GPS receiver? (If you have access to one)
I have found that the track location feature while sometimes is surprisingly accurate most often is only close enough for a general location. Good for a local search but not close enough to pinpoint my location with accuracy.
But discrepancy that is off by states I have no idea. IT gets your location by triangulating from the cell towers, maybe there is a glitch in that area that is unidentified. It isn't something you could ask your provider about (actually they might have an answer or be able to help but I wouldn't bet on it), even though they might be at fault. You might see if you can report it as a bug to the google mobile maps team and see if they will respond.

Try a different phone radio firmware. Mine used to fail when I used the newest Radio. It's either that or the information about your towers has been set up incorrectly on google's servers. Find someone in your area with a phone that you can install google maps on and try to see if the problem is still there. If it is, contact google about it.
That just happens sometimes with Google Maps.
I live in germany and sometimes Google Maps says I am somewhere in France or Spain (one time even somewhere in the atlantic or pacifik...)
Just wait some time and try to locate again (don't restart google maps).
If that doesn't help, walk around a bit and try again.
Hello,
Lurked around here for a while, first time poster. When I am in Hartford, WI the stock Time/Weather widget shows me as being in Hartford, CT, with an incorrect time due to different time zone. Is there a way to correct this short of not using "current location". Thanks for the help.
Mike
Bump...Anyone have any idea?

By chance are you using the Airave?
I know Phoenix had this issue. Maybe the cell tower did not update the DST Daylight Savings Time????
I do have an airave at my house, however I do not live in Hartford, this is just when I go there. My dad also has a hero and he lives in Hartford. His time is off same but he doesn't have an airave.
Thanks,
Mike

Oh it maybe the towers then. Mine does that when I go to Peoria. Suggest Sprint to fix or I just suggest using a fixed location
Both of our heros have this problem. Not a whole timezone off, but mine regularly shows me in a town on the other side of the state (about 150 miles away). It is consistent, though, it always picks the *same* wrong town....
It's happened to me with my phone on every single rom I've used (most of them) and it also happens on my wife's phone which is still 100% stock.
I haven't dug into it very deeply, but it seems to only be an issue when the phone is relying on network based location. If I go outside and get a good gps lock, it's fine again.
dwertz said:
Yeah but the Airave communication could come from Hartford and your aGPS could be getting it from that, thus showing you are located there when technically not. Mine does that, when I am at home in Airave distance it shows me as a different city 30 miles south of me.

I am not sure you understand me correctly. If I drive to Hartford, WI it says on the widget I am in Hartford (does not show the state) and the time is 1 hour off (as if it thinks I am in Hartford, CT rather than WI). When I drive back to my house it has the correct city and time.
Thanks for continuing to try and help me!

Sorry I jumped the gun on the previous one and corrected too late. I think its the towers. Some of the towers may not have been reset for the Daylight Savings Time. As I said I go to Peoria, same state, different city and the time will change, weird thing for me is there is no DST so not sure why Peoria is off but that is the issue I had before which they patched.
Only think I could suggest is calling Sprint. If both yours and your dads are off I am sure anyone that has a hero that looks up the location to set time and weather will be off. This information comes from the towers. They had a big issue with it in Arizona and had to send out a OTA. At the time I just set fixed location. Also if you are unsure if you think its Hartford CT vs WI, compare by the weather.

As a test, can you go into settings and tell it not to use network location, and only gps? Mine can still get a usable gps lock inside the house as long as I'm reasonably close to a window.
It's not really a "solution", but it might help pin down the problem.
(I'm strongly suspecting that the problem is not with the phone, but with Sprint having some bad entries in their database of tower locations....)

I think it still uses aGPS (assisted GPS, cell phone towers) if you turn location based GPS satellites off.

Hmm... Could be.
In fact, I think you're right. It still gives me a wrong location even when I tell it to use only gps if I go down to the basement or anywhere else where it's completely shielded from getting a "real" gps lock.
Still, the only completely reliable way I've personally found of getting the location to show correctly is to tell it to use only gps and give it some sort of reasonable view of the sky. Setting it near a window seems to be good enough most of the time, although it's slower that way than actually taking it outside.
I keep having a similar issue and still haven't managed to figure out a solid solution. My phone keeps telling me I'm in Albania, even though I'm in Indiana. The only thing I've been able to do to correct it temporarily is to go into Date/Time and uncheck/recheck "Use Network Time," and the problem is usually fixed within about 10 seconds. It goes on normally for a few days, and then I wake up with my phone thinking it's in Albania again.

Not that I know of. I live in Bloomington, in the middle of the city.
Which PRI and PRL are you on along with the rom?
Had an issue with my time being incorrect and it was due to my PRI. Had to re-assoicate the phone through the MSL code.
I have tried many solutions posted to similar issues in this forum and none are working...
I reflashed the radio
I updated the radio
I also changed roms
I updated google maps...
I installed google voice
I turned the GPS on and off
wiped data and cache
also restarted the phone...
tried indoors and outdoors...
Google maps gets my location fine, but just when I click on navigate it loads and on the bottom of the screen it says "searching for GPS..." and never finds it, the GPS satellite icon shows activity...GPS Test says GPS on...I do not see any other activity at all on the screen though....
this is weird...any ideas? anyone else getting this "error"?
Do you have a data plan or other network connection while trying to get a GPS fix? If you don't, then it can take a REALLY LONG time to get a fix since it won't be able to download the almanac (assisted gps).
Also, some LOCATIONS tend to be very bad for getting a GPS signal. Near tall buildings, for example. Even if you have good exposure to a lot of the sky, the signals can actually REFLECT OFF TALL BUILDINGS and screw up your timings.

Yes I do have a data plan. No I am not near ANY tall buildings - I am in a residential area. I used to get GPS fine here when I had my Nexus One and my HD2 ... but this phone is giving me a hard time....I wish I could get it fixed -I was planning on taking a trip tomorrow and it would be nice to have it working, anyways it should work, I dont see a reason why it should not work...
any other ideas?....
anyone else having this problem? .... please advise me....
If google doesn't know the coordinates of the cell tower you are connected to, it may be sending you incorrect almanac data, which will actually make it HARDER to connect (since the GPS will be making incorrect assumptions about the visible satellites).
Try disabling your data services and reboot the phone.
I had the same problem for like 3 weeks, prior to it, my screen was cracked and i had it replaced at a shop. I finally took the phone apart, and the little cable was not connected. If the phone's been opened since last the GPS worked, check that. If not, No idea bro.

I just checked my logCat and I noticed 4 errors all in a row with the tag "MobileNavigation"... the message says "Network Error! 3 : true". Any insight on that?
Thanks in advance...
so no one knows how to fix this
Did you try to turn off the A-GPS? It looks like your G1 try to connect to A-GPS but it can't connect.
did U find how to fix that cause I have kinda the same problem

My google nav app can t find gps but on the gps status i can fix on1-20 sats. the lock occures almost instantly, sometimes even whithout sats. When indoors (deep indoors) I get lock on 1-3 sats, near a window, at least 8-10 sats.
I d like to know if this is fixable, since I couldn t find another thread that treats this specific problem. I have LG E730 Optimus Sol Gingerbread.
I have the same issue with my HTC Amaze. Looks like there is a huge known problem with Google Maps. This is my second Amaze and both had the same problem. I have tried EVERYTHING. Looks like there is a known issue with Google Maps not using A-GPS correctly. I cannot turn off my A-GPS, so I'm pretty screwed, just waiting on ICS to come out.
I too have been having this issue for some time. This finally fixed the problem:

For my Glacier's Sense ROM, I installed DARKSIDE SENSE v4.0... of course I quickly reverted back to my preferred ROM immediately after completing the documented steps in the instructions. GPS works great... no more "Searching for GPS..." message.

I can't get to that link, can you PM it to me?
I finally found a semi-fix. In the A-GPS app, if you disable "filter GSP Speed" and disable filter strength, it has seemed to clear up the problem 90% of the time. Sometimes it takes 10 minutes to aquire, but sometimes it only take a few seconds and one it get's a lock, it seems to always keep locked on, which is 1000% better than what I was getting prior to this fix.
Hi,
Not sure if anyone got this problem.. but I bought my phone from Kogan.com.au and the version of my LG seems to be for Taiwan (of course got English language etc)... but problem is, whatever I do with timezone, whether I set it Manually, or Automatic from Network, every time I restart the phone it goes back to Taipei timezone! It's annoying as I have to go in settings and set it again.. Although I did find a work around using an app that will set the time zone at boot, but still.. when I reboot the phone it boots up with Taipei time, then after few seconds the app will correct it.
I even edited the build.prop to reflect AU not TW regions.
I assume flashing a different rom might fix it, but I spent a full day setting up my phone, really don't wanna start over again, and I'm hoping it might be just a system file that needs editing.
Thanks for your help
Strange, I've found this issue can happen when a phone is offline at boot, but if you're connected to a network the phone should correct time and time zone at boot, perhaps your network is not providing these values correctly?
Sent from my LG-P880
If I go in date and time, and disable and re-enable the automatic time zone it then gets the right one from the network.. so it's definitely not the network. Also on my old phone I get the right time (same network) and my gf gets the right time (same network also).. all android phones.

Perhaps you just don't have a connection when it polls for an update at boot, my desire s used to have this sort of problem

Even if I set time zone to manual, not automatic.. it still resets to that time zone.
Anyway of making it poll again after reboot when I have connection?

Only manually as far as I know
Sent from my LG-P880
Ah damn it. I even tried to look up apps on the market.. but I could only find one.. but it uses NTP and you manually have to set timezone.. it sets the right time zone after like 5 seconds after bootup.. which is not so bad... but still, would be good if it worked out of the box.
Thanks for your help anyways!
I have the same issue, running the same firmware (v10d) for Taiwan. I suspect we're using the same app (ClockSync) as a workaround as well.
I also suspect that flashing a firmware for Europe or some other region may fix it, but I am in the same boat as you; I spent a bunch of time setting up my phone and don't really want to do it all over again. At least not yet.
Yes. That's the app. Works for me for now.. maybe when JB comes out.. I'd be willing to flash it, but for now, it does the trick.
If you ever find an actual fix (aside from flash), please let me know. Thanks.
I have this exact same problem with the Taiwan v20b (the correct one for my phone).

Hy guys.
I had the same problem. After days spent trying to solve it, i got it. The problem was from some apps, that were installed. I removed them, i checked automatic date and time, automatic time zone, and after reboot, the problem dissapperd. The apps that did that are: facebook, facebook messenger, yahoo messenger. there could be other apps that could do that, but those apps, did it to me. Sorry for my english. Please post, if solved. Thanks!

Guys,
For some reason the Nexus 6 is showing the wrong weather location card in Google Now. It is showing a city about 40 miles SE of where I live. Has anyone else noticed this?
Thanks,

May want to try resetting your device and/or toggling GPS. Also, what level of GPS accuracy are you using right now

High accuracy...I always use high accuracy...
Does it show you in the correct place in maps? If it doesn't use the send feedback button and send Google a report.
Most likely the WiFi access point you are pinging has the wrong location in Googles database.
I've had good results with Google fixing this on two occasions.

I didn't know that it would show a picture of the city you are in. I've been using it since day 1 and never seen anything that resembles where I live. I thought it was just a generic picture....?
Mine has always showed a place a couple miles away.... Thought it was just my device..
