ANYONE CONFIRM THAT THEY HAVE A DIAMOND WORKING ON THE 850 3G BAND FOR ATT?
I have been told that the "DIAM130" diamond will work for the 850 3g att band but I am yet to have anyone confirm this! I really wanna get a diamond but 3g is a must for me, so please let us know ONE WAY OR THE OTHER.
Yes, I HAVE MY DIAMOND RUNNING ON 3G ON BOTH AT&T FREQUENCIES, 850 AND 1900. It runs perfect with no issues whatsoever. So Lewi, all you have to do is buy any tri-band or quad-band Diamond and not modify it one bit, it'll work flawlessly in the United States. Go get it buddy, it's yours for the taking!
(note: for any user besides lewi, this will not work. don't waste your money.)
Please spend more time searching and less time double posting.

These are the answers I give to anyone who wants to post the same question over and over all across the forum. Good luck Lewi!

Thanks you all so much for your kindness, yes I have double posted about this and I continue to get a mixed review. If you would spend more time helping then being a jack [email protected]# then maybe you would not only help me but others as well. For the record here are the replys to my threads:
poedgirl posted: I've got 850MHz on 3G here with the 1.00.25.05 radio ROM which came on my device (works on Telstra NextG here in Australia which is 850MHz HSDPA).
MrCalico posted: just got my Diamond Touch today and it came with the
RADIO: 1.00.25.05
ROM: 1.93.456.2 WWE Dated (7/10/08)
O/S: CE 5.2.19965 (Build 19965.1.2.3)
I'm only getting (E)dge on AT&T
No (G) or (H)
My upgraded TILT/TYN II connects to G3 and H at my location here in Los Angeles.
I hope someone figures out a way to get at least a G3 and 850Mhz radio.
Does it just need to be unlocked ??
I have read the many many threads that have been posted about this topic and like most everyone else I am still on the fence as to if there is indeed a DIAMOND that works for the us 3g 850 band! In the same threads that you guys have blasted for me not reading I have seen that supposly there is a "DIAM130" that gets the 850mhz hsdpa 3g band. I am just trying to get someone to confirm it. I am sorry if I have offended anyone, I am just trying to clarify something not just for me but for everyone else!
I think this statement is not only stupid but rude, as I am just merly trying to clarify something:

Lewi, I would reiterate what jomo says here and ask that you please update the title of your thread to include a question mark instead of an exclamation point. I for one know that I opened the thread very excited thinking that I was getting new info on a subject that's been discussed so much for the past few weeks.
Thanks.
You think we are only trying to be obnoxious in our replies. You misunderstand. This thread only serves to FURTHER THE CONFUSION. If everyone would just keep the conversation in the limited number of threads, then there won't be so much mis- or incomplete information.
I posted the links to the other relevant and fully vetted threads. Answering the same questions here will not serve any purpose and increases the chances of conflicting information.
Whether you believe it or not, my direct and abrupt post was meant to improve your chances of getting the right answer.
And yes, for the love of all that is good, you shouldhave at least changed the thread title. Or let's just let this one die and keep the conversation in the other, original threads.

Your example of the two posts with contradictory information is a perfect example of why your creation of a new post to discuss an issue already covered in other posts is a problem.
If just ONE post exists and people reply rather than create a new post, contradictions such as you experienced will be apparent and can be rectified. If there are multiple posts, there is a good chance people following only one of the post threads will only see half of the discussion and contradictory information will not be apparent and so not rectified.
This is a problem in this forum since many people are posting in a hurry without searching first to see if their question has already been asked. Continuation of this pattern will diminish the usefulness of this forum, to everyone's detriment. This is a BIG concern for long time posters who are trying to help people like yourself get answers, so as episodes of this behavior increase, their tempers flare.
It is considerate to understand the informal and formal rules of any group of people and abide by them, including a newsgroup, especially if you are asking for something. Not doing so sends the message that you don't care about something they value - don't be surprised if they respond negatively.
You can also try doing resarch outside this forum - for example, if you're interested in finding out about the existance of a US 3G Diamond, you might want to try searching using Google. You might be surprised what you find.
lewi - thanks for asking about this. I have a Diamond with the .05 radio and it is working on EDGE with AT&T for sure. I'd love it to work on 3G! It's not at all clear to me a) whether it would switch to 3G automatically if it could, or b) if it would need some configuration. Moreover, it's not clear to me how one can tell which frequency the radio is currently operating on.

Thank you for your great post, I have been on google and have done a ton of research outside of these forums, and like i have posted in one of the forums I have not seen anyone saying they have a diamond working here in the us on 3G! It is so hard to go by what "websites" say on the specs because so much of there information is just cut and pasted and usually wrong. For instance COMP USA had on there site where they were selling the diamond that worked for US 3G and they got so many orders and calls on it that they finally relized that they were wrong and it didnt actually work, so they changed it.
here is the link about that http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/...-surfaces-at-compusa-with-quad-band-connecti/
here is a link saying that there isnt any diamond that is compatible with the hspa 850 band at this time:
http://www.electronista.com/articles/08/07/25/diamond.gets.gsm.850.edge/
THIS WOULD EXPLAIN THE PEOPLE SAYING THEY ARE ONLY GETTING GSM (EDGE)
but here is also another link saying that the fcc has approved the us 3g band diamond:
http://www.intomobile.com/2008/07/2...ts-fcc-approval-with-us-3g-hsdpa-support.html
BUT THIS WOULD EXPLAIN THE PEOPLE SAYING THAT THERE IS A 3G BAND DIAMOND "DIAM130"
AS YOU CAN SEE I HAVE DONE ALOT OF SEARCHING AND STILL IT IS HARD TO GET A STRAIGHT ANSWER.
Thanks for all the input from everyone and maybe one day we will get someone to actually post "I HAVE A DIAMOND IN THE US AND ITS WORKING JUST GREAT ON 3G" =o)
Until then I guess I will just have to live without the beautiful VGA screen and make do with my tilt.
Okay, Lewi, you want a PERFECTLY CLEAR CUT AND HONEST ANSWER...
Here we go, it's been said a million times...
THE NEWEST ROM FOR THE DIAMOND...
ENABLES 850MHZ GSM ONLY...
THEREFORE...
YOUR DIAMOND NOW HAS...
850/900/1800/1900 GSM....
900/2100 UMTS...
WHICH WILL NOT WORK ON AT&T'S 3G BANDS OF 850 OR 1900.
Case closed, no matter how many times you ask in this section, the ROM development section, or any other for that matter, this is what is known.
Thank you for your POSITIVE reply =o) So does anyone have any news on this http://www.intomobile.com/2008/07/29...a-support.html or when it might be available?

Well THAT'S a disappointment. Just confirmed that no Diamond, unless made for the US, will work with US 3G bands ever. Good luck to those people who bought European versions to have them early.
Howeverrr, if I do recall, I think the Touch Pro has all radios in it... Didn't someone post on here about the project leader for the Diamond saying how they had to remove the US radio to make it so slim? Hmm...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2471618&postcount=54
It seems he's right.
And things just get curiouser and curiouser... Why doesn't the Touch Pro FCC test mention WCDMA? Is it because the ROM is locking it like 850 GSM in the original Diamond, or was it left out of that too?

Well that might be good for some US folks. But doesn't cut it for me. I need tri-band 3G. I travel to Asia way too much to go without 2100 3G. Heck this new phone won't even work in Korea or Japan. Sad how they are taking a step back in functionality here. My current TC works almost everywhere in full 3G glory. No TD will be able to do that. Truly disappointing if true. Between this and the Omnia drama, I might be done with WM.
I just don't understand at all how this phone works on Telstra NextG (850MHz HSPA) with the 1.00.25.05 radio ROM and yet it doesn't work on the US carriers, doesn't make sense to me.
US TD

The Touch Pro should work everywhere with 3G... If it still has the radio like we suspect it does.
I see one CDMA Rom and surely there are more. Please, where are they located? Just a suggestion, why not make a section for just CDMA Roms.
i have a cdma touch pro and i love my energy rom, before energy i used mighty rom and it was really nice but i didnt care for the touch flo.
Check out my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544837 and i've got many more at my website (at the bottom of my thread)

everythingdiamond.info is starting to take off as well for CDMA phones.

what does everybody own a gsm version?
all the cdma owners hang out over at ppcgeeks.com lol
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=67
one could conclude that 80% of all wm issues people have are in no way related to what phone network they use and as such then can find help and programs in other forums then the one made for the phone they own
Supply and demand I guess... GSM coverage far outweighs that of CDMA.
Like Rudegar said, a lot of us simply hang out in the regular Diamond forums because not much is really carrier/network specific.

Thanks alot! You weren't kidding. The amount of info on PPCGeeks.com forums regarding the CDMA Touch Diamond is phenomenal! They have this one sticky on How unlock/flash/upgrade radio, its great
I got ahead of myself and installed a radio update on a rooted handset running MoDaCo 2. I ran the updater in update mode and than it prompted a restart.
I restarted and it installed the package than next time i looked the screen was dead. the whole units been dead eversince. no reaction to USB/Power, or to any key combo startups...
Please tell me that this is not the end?
probably dead
from what i have read on this issue, if you flash a GSM radio it runs on a higher voltage and kills your phone.
if you have the insurance they most likely wont be able to tell what broke it.
well there isnt anything you can do. I hope you have insurence. this is the only way that we have found to brick these phones, is to flash the GSM radio.
good luck

Sorry, this is the end.
I didn't think MoDaCo had a v2 for CDMA heros...maybe thats why it told you to update the radio. Nothing that you can do, I think this is the only thing that has killed a Hero is someone not paying attnetion and updating the radio to a GSM one.
Please no one take this the wrong way, but...
At least once a week there's a thread like this, where someone has fried their phone by flashing the wrong package.
Accidents do happen... that's the way it goes. I've been in the tech industry for over 20 years and I've certainly done my share of "what does this do?", but there are pages and pages (and more pages) relating to the process involved in hacking around on your Hero phone and while it is getting easier to do due to the great work by the devs found here in this forum, reading and comprehension of exactly what it is you're doing should always be your #1 step.
Read, download files, read again, verify that you have the correct items, read some more and then start the process.
It's like the old woodworking saying, measure twice, cut once.
To the OP, it sucks that your phone got fried, but one can hope this serves as another warning to others.
There us definitely a modaco 2.0 cdma. What radio update did you use?

It doesn't matter what he used. There are zero radio updates for the CDMA Hero, thus there is no opportunity, at all, to flash something back to the phone that would work.
If you don't know what you're doing, you shouldn't be doing it. It's as simple as that. If you do it anyway, you should expect to get burned.

sorry dude... if u have a Sprint CDMA Hero
and you messed with the RADIO
IT is the end of that phone... dead!
As was advised before, take your phone to a Sprint store and fain ignorance. Say, "For the life of me, I tried to turn it on the other day and it just won't respond!" The techs will fart with it for two hours, calling Sprint's techs and attempting every trick in the book to flash it before finally replacing it with a heartfelt apology. Don't tell them anything that you did to it. Just let them make the determination.

We've all been down this road. Maybe not with flashing a phone, but with other things as well. That's called "learning from your mistake." He got a bit too enthusiastic and had a lapse in judgment...it happens to all of us, including me.
He probably thought he was flashing the MoDaCo CDMA 2.0 ROM for HTC Hero and just accidentally picked up the MoDaCo GSM 2.0 ROM for HTC Hero. Unfortunately, the problem is that the GSM Hero and CDMA Hero are named just that, HTC Hero. There is no real designation to the average user. Even the accessories like batteries between the GSM Hero and the CDMA Hero are different...causing an average user to make a mistake and buy the wrong accessory (got close in buying a battery for the GSM Hero because it was labeled as compatible with "HTC Hero"...only problem was it was for the GSM Hero and not the CDMA Hero, but nowhere on the site said that.)
Go easy on the guy...it's unfortunate, but it happened and now he's learned to be more careful in the future.

So curiosity kills me here. If 1.6+ has CDMA support in the future could we potentially have 1 set of roms for both devices?? I guess that is probably just wishful thinking due to other differences, doesn't change the fact the radio is still different and a different driver, not just kernel level stuff.
Ignore me i make less sense as i ramble.

Theoretically, yes. The ROM should be able to determine which radio is in there and set the settings accordingly (including loading the correct driver).
But, that's in theory. Not sure if that is how this going to play out at 2.1 (since that's the next release for our phone).

Hardly. I learn something every day.
But it doesn't take "total knowledge of the Android system" to know that:
(A) This over here isn't meant for my phone
(B) People repeatedly post saying "don't do it!"
(C) People who do it anyway report bricking their phone
should lead to:
(D) I really shouldn't do that.
It just takes normal reasoning ability.
I have zero problem with someone who says "gee, I don't understand the difference, will you tell me?"... but the one who decides to do something, I am going to assume the same of him that I would hope he assumes of me.
That he has a clue.
People who don't have a clue should be expecting to be reminded of the fact. This is how people *learn*. Conversely, if I make some stupid mistake, I hope someone pokes ME about it, too.
XDA is a great resource. If only more people would actually use it.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled fora.
To OP:
Do what they said and play it ignorant at a repair center, they will have no clue what happened and give you a new phone.
Well I have insurance so maybe that is why but who knows.
Don't worry OP I did the same mistake, just keep reading and you will be fine. Don't be afraid to get back into the modding scene, just read up before you try anything next time, and maybe create a thread to verify you have a solid process before doing it, once you learn everything that you need to be successful.

Okay...once you get your phone back from Sprint and you want to mod it again, my suggestion is to stick to the Hero CDMA subforum for your ROMs. All are guaranteed not to brick your phone.
The Darktremor has a list and links to updated ROMs.

there are no sprint stores near by but I should be able to call support about it.

No...without actually getting into the phone, they can't tell if you messed with it. And since the phone is dead, they won't be able to tell you tried to mod it. Just do what everyone here says and play ignorant.
Has anyone else noticed there aren't any downloadable ROMs when you click Download ROM under the Rom Management section in the Rom Manager Premium v3.0.07. Yes, it lists Fresh(flipz), DamageControl(damageless) and CrunchySoft(crunchybutternut), but no matter which one you select, the response back is "Error occurred while downloading the ROM list! Please contact the developer of this ROM." The only thing I can summize from this is these 3 developers have moved on to greener pastures for ROM developement. In any case, I raise my pint of Guinness to flipz, damageless and crunchybutternut as well as to all the ROM developers here at xda for their contributions. BTW, I work for corporate Sprint as a Sprint Product Ambassador and now tote the HTC EVO Shift 4G and am looking forward to what incredible ROM mods are forth coming!
Has anyone noticed... we have another of those "I don't care, because I can't read" types here...
