The only Rom Ive found with the old style linux ext partition apps2sd is a modaco premium kitchen rom, and i dont have a premium modaco account. Can someone implement this as a addon zip for the existing rooted froyo rom? Or maybe just make a new rom?
I looked around for documentation on how to implement this my self and haven't found anything useful.
from what ive read, froyo doesnt use this method.there are a couple of threads on using ap2sd on froyo.an easy fix.
i suggest if you want something from modaco premium account, you join up as i did.i doubt anyone here is gonna give you access to what theyve donated to.
the roms we have now are more or less test roms.source has not been released so you will most likely not see anything new until its released.
ne thing i cant believe is the way google implemented apps2sd on froyo. That was the reason for me to revert back to 2.1 CM 5.0.7.1
so +1 to this request. but i guess cyanogen will handle that, if he does a froyo version of cm, when froyo is final!
I liked the linux partition app2sd implementation better as well. Keeps the file-system available for the phone and the fat32 available to mount to a PC or whatever.
Yeah, I'm curious to see why they didn't use ext 2/3/4...
Fat32 app storage sucks. Anything with a widget has to be stored on phone.

1.Do the ROMS automatically use the linux-swap partition i made or do i have to activate it some how? Same for apps2sd
2.Same rom, but i want HTC Peep widget/app on this rom *wasnt included in the rom* Is there anyway to get it?
3.Is there any1 out there who would like to see if windows mobile could be ran on a G1? Im willing to donate 100USD to the cause

1) Most hero ROMs automatically use the linux-swap partition, most 1.5 builds do not because it isn't really needed. Same with A2SD, depends on the ROM. Have a look in the release notes in the thread. Most ROMs do use you ext partition for apps automatically, but some don't.
2) Peep and weather are exclusive to Hero ROMs, I don't know a Hero ROM that doesn't include them. You can't get those apps or the widgets for them on 1.5 builds.
3) (Crazy) people (I kid, I kid) have asked about WinMo before on the G1 before, I wouldn't get your hopes up. Apparently WinMo doesn't even support the 320x480 resolution the G1 uses, not to mention we would need drivers for everything.
My LEDs don't flash for anything.
I had the same problem when i flashed Herver a few weeks back. Other people aren't having problems apparently, and i was wondering what could be the source of the problem?
I repartitioned my SD card totally before installing the rom, so i have a brand new ext3 and 128MB swap. I also whiped everything before flashing the rom.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
You need the latest HeroLED app by Fictionles
search for it, its somewhere here on the forums (or you can download one of the roms that already have it)
also is it the sense mlign or regular hero mlign?
I thought it was suppose to work natively now though...
And it's Hero Mlign V3.0

Not natively.
I looked in the 3.0 zip and didn't see the app.
Just got the new 2.2 ROM installed via OTA... love running a hardware review site!
I've got stuff such as Flash working right now (There's some great threads right here to help with that, just search for it).
However, I'm trying to figure out if a few other rumored features have been enabled yet or not in the "official" ROM.
- Color trackball?
- FM Radio?
- I see options to SD storage, but its grayed out. Do I need to partition my SD card like when I used apps2SD on my G1?
Update
For anyone looking at more information for the "official" app storage on SD in Android 2.2, take a look at the developer guide. (I'd post a link, but I'm too new)
Looks like your apps have to have the "External" part coded in.
i dont think you need a partition for Apps2SD, remember that Apps that require root access cant be moved to the SD and im guessing that the apps need to be readied to be moved.. and for FM..i dont think its in the update i could be wrong.

U dont have to do anything for the Multitouch patch, it will be pre-loaded. Not sure whether 2.2 will be pre-loaded or not
This is the development thread respect the rules, ask to get this moved to Q & A
Hi,
I followed the CM6 thread quite closely, however I did not want to hijack that thread for my purposes.
It seems that the latest build of CM6 does not support Apps2SD anymore. I used to flash Cyanogens Mods on my G1 / Dream since ages, and all of them supported Apps2SD. Maybe someone could elaborate a little on my questions to help me understand the latest developments:
1. Is there any particular reason why CM6 does not support Apps2SD anymore (maybe performance or stability issues)?
2. Won't that mean that the G1 will immediately run out of memory, as the internal memory is that small (this was actually the reason why I decided to root my device)?
Thanks in advance for helping out. I just don't really get it and think I won't flash CM6 until there is a solution...
Best regards,
Becksman

Apps2SD will be there in 6.1......That's been communicated.....
Right now Firerat has build an script which does the JOB, I have a dream and using apps2sd with CM6....
Search the thread or XDA and you will get all the info....
FroYo, that CM6 is based on, has it's own implementation, often referred to as Apps2FAT. Cyanogen, and others, have stated that something resembling the CM4/5 Apps2Ext will be in the next release of CM.
Thanks for the replys so far. I was aware that an implementation of Apps2SD in CM6.1 is planned. I know as well that there is a workaround with firerat's patch.
I just tried to understand what's different with CM6 in comparison to CM5. I thought: hey, maybe with CM6 there's a good reason why apps2SD is not supported anymore. Maybe there's an alternative to apps2SD which works more reliable (not that it didn't with apps2SD on CM5). If so, I would have been willing to reinstall my apps and use the new system.
If there's no reason not to use apps2SD in CM6 then I'll consider updating. Either now, applying firerat's patch, or in some time when CM6.1 is out...
Best regards,
Becksman
it is Apps2SD, but it is saving the data to the FAT32 partition, rather than the EXT partition we are used to. one limitation I've discovered was by installing desktop widgets on the external. when the OS booted up, none of the widgets loaded.
I suspect the reason CM6.0 doesn't have Apps2Ext is threefold.
FroYo has something similar built-in. Therefore, users have a solution to the underlying problem w/out a custom CM solution. (problems w/ that implementation notwithstanding)
A polished solution would have to integrate with the FroYo solution in some way. This takes extra work.
Getting FroYo running solidly was a huge effort of it's own. TeamDouche expanded the number of supported devices by a huge number. They integrated the completely new build system Google released with FroYo. Adding another feature, especially in light of #1 and #2 above, would have delayed the release without real merit.
Thanks for the clarifications.
So I guess I'll stick with Apps2Ext. Though I guess I'll have to wait until CM6.1 is out, as I really don't have the time right now to keep myself busy playing with my phone and try to make everything work.
Thanks again for your effort - what a wonderful forum.

Becksman
Ok, my friend has the hero for sprint and it keeps saying his phone storage space is getting low. Its making his phone run very slow and I said i'd help him fix it. Can you guys pleeeaaassseee help me?

Is your friend running stock ROM?
Go to Settings > SD card and Storage and see what it says for free internal memory. I remember getting that message when mine was under 15 MB. I had too many apps on internal memory. I switched to a ROM that had apps2sd and now I have 100+ MB Free.

Sweet! His phone isn't rooted yet but I'm good with knowing how to root phones. What ROM has that apps2sd app thou? I have a samsung fascinate soo I don't know much about the hero lol. And its a stock ROM rom btw
1sT GeAr, U MaD??
Almost all ROMs now have apps2sd integrated.
If your friend wants to stay "stock" with the Sense UI, anything by nfinitefx45 is quality. He just released a ROM based on the newest Sprint release this morning! Check it out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849024
If you want something completely new, froyo AOSP, check out CyanogenMod 6.1 RC1.. it's perfectly stable.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755795
With both you'll get a lot more internal memory than stock ROM. If you still want A2SD, it's built in nfinitefx45's, and if you want it for CM6 then just run the easy froyo a2sdext in my signature. Just partition the SD card to ext2 and then upgrade from ext2 to ext3 before installing nfinitefx and it will work automatically. If using with CM6, partition anytime before running the script.

That works too
low memory
Low memory can slow down the phone... lag the hell out of it if there is no room for "working" memory. You won't be able to view photos or listen to musice if you have too much on your phone. Been there done that flashed on cm6 no problems since.
