I've had this happen at least three times over the past week, and only when sending mms to friends on at&t.. they get error messages saying either the file is too big or components of the file may be unsuitable for their terminal.. any other friend on any other carrier gets the mms without a problem

AT&T limits the file size of MMS, just like any other carrier... usualy the carriers system will resize any oversized file on its own, but they might be deciding not to play nice, or have an issue right now with the system.
Try sending a MMS to her that is small, say 300K max, and see what that does for you.

I have had this exact same problem. My gf too has an iphone, i've found that when i send her a picture i use email and vice versa. Plus there is no picture downsizing thus no quality loss

I posted about this on my mytouch and my nexus. As I recall the response was that I should change my UAstring to "iphone" I thought that setting was only for browser but mms to iPhones worked after and even after I changed the setting back to android or even desktop.
So I don't know if it was just a coincidence but its something you could try. I tried sending to about 4 different iPhone 3g and 3g's so I don't think it was a particular iPhone problem. Also I don't think I ever had problems on my g1...

Is her iPhone on T-Mobile? It could be a problem with the mms settings, same thing happened with my wife's iPhone once.

have the same problem though, its with my nexus one..
i tried sending with my old G1 and it would send without a prblem ...
i even have tried snapping a pic with my G1 and then transfering the pic over to me nexus and sending it with my nexus and they wouldnt be able to view it. anyone find out what going on?

sending pictures

I've got an att tilt that is unlocked and i am on t-mobile here in the US, with just about all the options as far as airtime. I have tried sending pictures via mms to another phone, and the send is never sucessful. Is there some limit as to file size ? I've tried just sending a smaller contacts picture, and it is not sucessful either. Is the issue T-mobile ? Do they somehow limit this ?
Sending pictures as attachements to email addresses does work.
I never thought id take a picture with a phone, but now that i have the capability, im wondering how to get it to work
TIA

Picture Mail not Working! Help!!!!!!!

Well, this would be my first official post. I'm a newbie . I just bought my Diamond about one week ago and I like it alot. I'm a convert from Verizon. Loved the service but not the price plans so I switched. I get so much more with Sprint for the price. Anyway, when I first got it the internet connection would not work. Called techs and they fixed that problem. Set up email, Wifi, pic mail, and pic mail service and all other stuff. Except pic mail does not work or it only half works. I can send or upload to my sprint pic account website, but I can't receive pic mail. I see the uploads and pics from my friends but it doesn't send them to my phone. So, like WTH . Anyways, I can't receive from the website or from my friends who are on Sprint. Talked to a tech and she said I would have to set my email up and pic mail up and I did. I had to do something else and she said she would call me back, but never did. Kinda pissed about that. Any clues or the like would be helpful? Like I said I can send, upload, and receive on the web account but not receive from the web or from my friends phones on Sprint. If anybody had a similar problem or fixed it their own way before calling the techs let me know? I want the pic mail to fully work.
i have a simimliar problem i cant send/receive mms messages from my girlfriend who has verizon and i have ATT. i jsut got my diamond about 5 days ago
I was reading other threads/posts and sometimes it depends on the network and the quality or size of the picture, video, etc. she is sending to you. The higher the resolution or larger the file, the longer it takes. The lower the quality or smaller the file the shorter it takes. Sometimes the networks regulate the size of what you send. Hope this helps.

The weird thing is that Cybertoads and my mutual friend also has a Diamond and on his everything works perfectly fine. At first it literally took 2 weeks for a picture mail to arrive on my phone after sending it from his, but downloading the Picture mail update from Sprint seemed to have fixed that issue, now he can send and receive them no problem. I have a Sprint Touch, and I have no problem either sending and receiving pictures.
Anyone else have the problem that Cybertoad is encountering?
Possible Solution: sMMS App
I've had the same problem, I've had my Diamond since it came out months ago and I've tried several times to get picmail working. Just last night I came across this: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=22509 [the first post has a lot of details about the app.] Read through that and you can download the program and try it out, I really liked it and donated the $5 through paypal like the creator suggested and I was surprised by how quickly I was able to register and get the full version up and running [and you get a lifetime license for that donation]. So far, I've gotten sending picmail working just fine with this program. Receiving is another matter, and it's an issue that seems to only be on the Diamond and the Touch Pro. Typically on Sprint phones that can't get regular MMS, they'll send a regular txt message with a link that you can click on and download the picture, they were able to get this program to intercept those txts and automatically download the picture like regular MMS is supposed to work. However, on the Diamond and Touch Pro, it does not send a txt with a link to the MMS since the native Sprint picmail app should be working (but they just can't seem to get it working at all!). They have wrote on their site [http://smms.vision5.com/] that they are working on that problem. In the meantime, in the app you can just click on your inbox and it'll sync all your recent new picmails right in the program, you don't need to go through the Sprint picmail site and you can view the pictures, download them to your phone, reply to the messages, etc. It's just a matter of how often you get picmail which would determine how often you should check for anything new. Alternatively, if you tell people that when they send you an MMS make sure they send a regular txt message telling you they sent the MMS, you'll be able to go into the program and check. This app seems way easier to use than the native Sprint one [if it even worked] and seems like these guys can get more things done in their free time than the developers over at Sprint who should have had this problem solved by now. It's also quite fast at sending the pics [and notifies you when it's done sending] and you can set if you want the pictures resized before being sent.
Hope that helps.
Feel free to contact me if you need any help,
Matt

No Problem

What are nexus owners supposed to do about the defective mms?

This is the stupidest thing ever I see tons of threads about mms problems but no absolute solutions which is what we all deserve as android supporters, i can sometimes send and recieve mms, except most of the time i cant. Is this google? HTC? Tmobile? Its a huge problem that need to be addressed. Its serious its not about poor speakers or choppy ui or a slow app drawer. This is a very basic functions of the cheapest of phones whoever is at fault doesnt apparently care so what can i do? im so tired and embarrassed with it!! who do i complain to? it didnt work consistently on my g1 either so what the f*** gives????
yes its really really really really stupid. My nexus doesnt like to send mms and I called tmobile about my wifes piece of **** mytouch slide having generic network failures with receiving and sending mms...she filled out a ticket and said they would keep me posted about the problem.
And i agree its completely embarrassing this is one of the relatively few phones out there you brag about, but its tough to brag when the mms doesnt even work, not even to mention the crappy speaker, choppy ui, jacked resolution, invisible screen when the sun is out, etc...i love this phone one minute and the next i want to stick it down my disposal with the rest of my leftovers.
let me know if you find out who to light the fire under im happy to do whatever i can i just want mms to work...
Have you tried Handcent? I don't think I've had too many issues with mms using that.
i can't say I've ever had a problem sending or receiving MMS on AT&T with the N1 (not 1 failure yet). If you are both running stock roms perhaps it's a T-Mobile issue.
Reading the 2 posts above it doesn't appear to be confined to the N1 and both of you guys are on T-Mobile. It may take some prodding to the appropriate people to take a look but I'd start there.
I've been sending MMS since Day 1. What type of problems are you having? Maybe too large a file?

It shouldn't be due to a large file.
When I take a photo, for instance, it's at full-resolution.
When I attach it to a SMS, it says it's too large, and it is Compressing.
Does it NOT do that for you OP?
Mms always worked for me.
But i m in France.
As android supports mms i would say its your network..
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
i dont know about OP but when i send to my wife's slide, it either doesnt arrive or comes the next day. and i just cant send to any type of iphone, but i think i had that problem with my old mt3g and g1. When i send to my friends nexus ones, sometimes they get them, usually they dont. And ive tried every method i can think of i cant send when adding attachment, "sharing" from the gallery, or attaching and then taking a picture. Im on tmobile, phones stock.
Very glad to hear others arent having this, i dont know i dont want two messaging apps on my phone, maybe im OCD but i just wish it worked how it is. Actually, when i send to the slide its the slide that says it cant download the pic so maybe its the slide part of the time (still android of course).
I cant pinpoint the circumstances under which the problem occurs so its pretty frustrating, maybe the randomness points to carrier issue? TMobile is super cheap so that wouldnt surprise me, but thats a whole different thread.... But since others dont have any problems maybe ill try my spare nexus for a few days and see if its just my phone.
It must be a t-mobile thing, cause I send tons of mms everyday on my ATT nexus one for 4 months now, not a single issue for me..
OP, you might just need to set up your APNs correctly. MMS was a bit wonky on my n1 until I followed a guide. A search under mms apn should show the thread.
Indeed, not a single problem once I've set up APNs. But I'm not from US, thus not using T-Mobile.

You do not state what carrier you use, but we are having a terrible time with Vodafone and Android not sending receiving SMS/MMS. I posted this on both Vodafail.com and Whirlpool.net.au, and you may find your answer towards the bottom of the post:
"I pay for a third generation data service W-CDMA (UTMS) which Vodafoney started to introduce as far back as 2004. I have a great Google Nexus One (HTC) (not from Vodafoney) and to get it to send and receive SMS/MMS I have to set it to GSM/CDMA (second generation). Okay, it is Google's programming blunders (in Android Froyo) that means standard messaging tries to send too big an image and so I have to use CHOMP or HANDCENT (I prefer the latter, free from MARKET) which automatically resizes the image to 300kb which Vodafoney will send/receive.
I complained to Vodafoney from my account page with them, and have yet to receive a reply. In anger I complained to the Telecommunications Ombudsman whose office is taking up the matter with the carrier. Also see the last two pages in The Australian Financial Review (7 January 2011) concerning the company and the lack of action by the ACCC. It makes for interesting reading."
Okay ... next question: how to change the preferred network type to the second generation GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)? On my Nexus One, I dial *#*#4636#*#* and then click on Phone. Go down to 'Set preferred network type' to GSM/CDMA auto (PRL). Also set the SMSC to Vodafone AU by entering +61415011501. Then back out. That will get SMS working. But if you want to use MMS to send and receive images, there is one more step ... go to MARKET and install HANDCENT. In the setting, make sure you use the image size 300kb. So when you send a PXT, HANDCENT will resize the image to what Vodafoney (unlike US carriers who send larger images) will cope with.
You are now in business ... but still paying for third generation services (like speed) and getting a second generation service. Fear not, Vodafone will fix the issue. No, I do not work for the buggers ... just a user who never gives up!
the incredible is on the verizon network and i am on Tmobile
This is very likely nothing to do with android, but an issue between carriers since Verizon is cdma and t-mobile is hsdpa now.
Can you test with any other friends and/or carriers etc?
ahh I have the same issue but I have a mytouch 3g I wonder what the issue is... I can send to at&t no problem

cannot recieve text msgs

sorry if this has been posted already, but i just got my htc one today. i can send text msgs but i cannot receive. i've called sprint, they soft reset my phone, update profile, prl, etc etc and still not working. funny thing is they can text me. they also say everything looks fine. i used to have iphone with imessage and still have ipad and macbook. my gf who has iphone sends txts and i get them on my ipad as imessage obv, but still do not receive txts. thought maybe att specific, but nope, my friend who is also on sprint im not getting his msgs either.
just switched from my perfectly working iphone to this and this is what i get. so annoyed right now.
anyone have any other ideas??
EDIT: Never mind; saw entry in Airave thread.
turns out it was an imessage issue. because i still have a macbook and ipad, anyone with an iphone that was texting me was going as imessage instead of txt. i had to disable imessage service for mac and now it works. thank god i can actually enjoy my phone. loving it.
