Hey guys,
I have an exta N1 I am going to sale...its my brothers...I have 2.2 froyo on it...how can I wipe important information while maintaining 2.2 to sale to a person? Thank you.
Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset
Thank you and that will keep froyo 2.2 on it? Do I then just need to remove the sim card and it will be ready for the buyer?
Thanks my friend!
Yes it'll keep 2.2 on it.
If you are giving your sdcard away too, format it, fill it up with large files first and then format it again. If you just format it with your info on it, most of it can easily be recovered.

Hi guys,
A quick check on someting, if i was to upgrade to another ROM, how would that affect the data on my phone? Such as, applications installed on internal storage, contact data, music etc.. Would they all be whiped clean (which is what id expect but want to make sure)?
If they are gonna be removed - especially contacts - would i simply need to create a backup on my laptop?
Thanks for the help.

Hey guys,
after flashing my branded Vodafone i9000 to Froyo via Kies & RegHack I did a factory reset because I wanted to start fresh.
Now, my internal SDCard is still full, plenty folder of old apps.
Do you guys know any SAFE method to clear the SDCard? Or can I just format the SDCard before I install any apps? Did Froyo saved there in the initializing process any information?
Regards from Germany!
format directly works!

*2767*3855# this will delete everything, i prefer to do this before and after i flash a firmware, i think most of the people here have problems after flashing cause they don't do it

dont do it!!!
i did it for this time and now it keeps vibrating once and then three times after boot logo! going to recovery tells me something like media blablabla cant copied ... have to use ui menu to format internal sd ... format internal sd through recovery mode doesnt help ...
any suggestions on this?
Just a quick one - going to do a factory reset as I've installed Froyo and I think it would help a few small problems I've had - will the data on the internal SD get wiped with his?
Not sure about going through menu or three button menu but using #*272* definitely wiped mine. Sadly my SMS backups were on there as well as pictures I wanted to keep.
Cheers, I'll make a backup before going ahead.
I couldn't find a clear answer very quickly... so I'm going out on a limb and just need to throw a quick question out there which should be a an easy one for experienced flashers.
I've been out of the flashing game for awhile now... been running Serendipity for some time. I'm wanting to give something else a try and want to do it the safest way possible, so I plan to master clear first. I have ran a Titanium Backup batch of everything I need (I believe) and am close to going ahead with the master clear.
I guess what this boils down to for me is a concern with the filesystem. I'm not clear on whether or not something has to be done with that before flashing or if the master clear process is going to safely just convert back to the original file system.
Hoping someone can shed a quick light for me and I'll move forward...
a master clear doesnt do **** for the filesystem. it is just formatting your internal sdcard....aka, you dont need to do it
ODIN flash back to stock will actually repartition, reformat, and flash the stock rom back on.
dont confuse the 2.....master clear is the same as going into your storage options in settings and formatting the internal sd card and going to the privacy section and deleting everything
Master clear doesn't touch the file system. It just wipes the internal memory. flashing to stock will resets the file system.
Perfect, that is exactly what I needed to know. I copied all the crap off of my sdcard and plan to masterclear anyway just to get an idea of how much I don't need anymore.
This does clear it all up, thanks guys.
Hi there. I just got my Galaxy S3, and as such don't need my S1 anymore. I am going to sell it, but before I do so I should clean the SD. I see a lot of format options in "mounts and storage" in CWM, but I don't know which does the job and which does not. I want all the files that are stored on it to be off the thing, and make it almost as if it were fresh from the factory (or in my case, fresh from the factory, but only after having put Android ICS on it). Can anyone tell me which parts I should format?

If you do that he won't have a system to boot from! But you could do that and then flash a stock Rom with Odin, that would be best to sell it, only a small percentage of people run custom Roms
I'm assuming you're already on ICS?
I find the best way is to simply format from the settings menu (Backup & reset-->Factory data reset). On the following screen which tells you that your google account and apps etc will be erased, if you scroll to the bottom there is an option to also erase SD card (music, photos etc). That should clear everything.
