Hi guys. It's been a while
I have a Stellar that is displaying a white screen with blue buttons, like a phone dialler, and is prompting for a password to unlock. I have seen this once before on another Stellar but it's been so long I've forgotten what to do. Does anyone have any ideas how to get round this or get rid of it without doing a hard reset?
I don't really want to lose the data as it's not my device. If I have to rebuild I will but wondered if there was a quick fix for this?
Basically I can reset or switch off and it goes through the O2 splash and then the WM splash too....then this dreaded bloody screen pops up! I initially thought it was an issue with the SIM so I rang O2 and had them check it, all is OK that end.
I've stuck another SIM in and it still does it, so I'm sort of thinking it's hardware? I've also tried various combos of numbers to try and bypass this screen. All I can do is ring 999 which is not clever or funny.
So, I'm all ears. Cheers guys!
Oh, and if you need to know, it's the standard O2 ROM over which we apply our company build using spbclone. Don't know the version but it's not running Home Brew as such - our clone is basically tweaked user settings and GPRS settings
I think the first thing you need to do is to unlock your phone. Search here or they are many sites that will offer you a good deal to do that.
Have you try a hard reset? just to double check. If you see the unlocking # prompt your screen again you will need to unlock the phone.
Unfortunately unlocking is not an option. As no-one else has posted suggestions, and you guys were my best bet, it would appear I'm going to have to re-image it. Poo.

Hi all... just curious if anyone has had this problem or has any advice for me:
Today out of nowhere my TyTN II starts acting really funky. When I push the "power" button on the right hand side, it lights up the phone, pulls up the phone application and some letters begin appearing one-at-a-time where the currently dialing number usually shows up (E, D, F, and then C if it makes any difference). It will also light up and do this intermittently when the phone is not being used. The notes recorder app also came up and began recording until I unmapped that application from the 6th button in the settings. In addition, all of the slide out keyboard buttons and the soft-keys themselves (save for the middle button) are completely non-responsive. Using the stylus on-screen works fine. So far a soft reset and a hard reset (always wonderful away from home) hasn't alleviated the issue.
I've contacted HTC support, and they gave me the warranty repair number (of course this crap always happens on a weekend). It sure sounds like a hardware failure to me, but I just thought I'd throw it out to the geeks on here...
I'll buy it for 100 dollars. email me: [email protected]
or you could try doing a master reset on the phone or flashing it with a rom..
hopefully you have hard spl on your phone
huh? huh? and huh?
Oh and if anyone out there who isn't inclined to be a jerk, could you give me some insight into what to expect from HTC service and repair? Do you agree that this is a hardware issue and most likely not a corrupted ROM?
Its not master reset its hard reset. What he is saying is to reset everything and it should work. Look at the Wiki for help. We aren't gonna spoon feed you answers that are searchable, but if they aren't specifically answered in some source then we will help which is 50% of the time.

did any of you guys even read his post?

I said to do it again then read the wiki if it doesn't work. 2nd time should be the charm.
If not use a different rom .
This happened to my up button I forgot to mention, it was the radio for me that was the problem so try a different radio also.
Did you find the answer?
Hello Mate,
I've got the very same issue, thought it may have been a virus at first, but after loading up a new rom the problem still exists, I'm reckoning the phone is less than useless now
i had this type of problem for quite some amount of time & that too randomly. then i found that a key lock feature in pocketmusic was interfering and causing it. similarly, i feel any other apps that may use/ be used to remap keys may cause this issue.
ofc, since u have done a hard reset, this may not really apply to u. but then which rom & radio are u using anyways?
Hey... just an update. I sent the device back to HTC in Houston with an RMA. Communication with the repair center was fairly poor. I had no idea the phone was on it's way back to me until it showed up at my door today. No information in the box, but I wasn't charged for any repair and everything works as normal at this time. The device went through the "first time" setup when powered on. Still no idea what caused the problem or what exactly they did. R:...12.32, D:1.56.0 (same as before I'm pretty sure).
axeman: Never had pocketmusic on this (AFAIK), but if it was due to some other software re-mapping the keys, wouldn't it sort itself out with a hard reset? I could be wrong. This seems more like a hardware failure to me.
devil's advocate: Try contacting the HTC repair center in your country. They gave me an RMA without any trouble and their turnaround was quick (although I would have appreciated some notification that it was fixed and back on it's way). I got my TyTN II within a few weeks of it coming out, so I'd assume yours is under warranty still as well. I wouldn't chalk it up as worthless quite yet, even (dare I say) still worth more than $100. (Suck my balls, gqstatus0685 )
I just did a hard reset of my Orange TyTN ii, and had heard that if you soft reset before the 3 second countdown for customisation then you don't get all the Orange guff installed. (The people who developed the Orange dialler should be banned from developing for life!)
Trouble is, when I hit the soft reset, it's performing a hard reset every time. Am I doing something wrong? Or will this trick not work on the new ROM and 6.1?
Any advice would be very gratefully accepted because I just could not bear to be stuck with that awful Orange dialler. I don't want to flash the ROM on this brand new device, if I can help it either in case I **** things up!

Maybe you can do a hard-reset with the battery-cover already removed, boot up, go through the initial setup and when the countdown starts, remove the battery.
That trick only worked in WM6... WM6.1 doesn't work!
Thanks for the replies.
Typical! Microsoft continues to annoy and alienate its customers by further restricting their freedoms. It's almost as if they want to drive people to open source software. If only there was a Linux alternative to Windows Mobile. Sigh.
As for Orange, I've sent in a complaint to them about their incompetent developers - not that I expect them to take a blind bit of notice.
Is there a registry hack to banish Orange's crappy dialler and restore the much better HTC version?

I think it is time for you to venture into the Kaiser ROM forum like I did when I became sick of the Orange software

I'm too scared! ;-) If there's any chance of screwing it up, I'd rather not risk it until the Orange contract is over. But unless I can find a registry hack or some other way to replace the dialler, I might have to do it.
It's unbelievable that Orange has buried speed dial in a sub menu! What kind of moronic developer thinks that's a good idea? Have these idiots ever used a phone?
You can get rid of the Orange stuff easily enough without replacing the ROM! Just install whatever CAB files take your fancy. Start with HTC Home Plugin and use HTC Home Customiser to get it the way you like. Then choose from the dozens of nice diallers people on here have developed.
I live in Australia, and have a Telstra branded Diamond, although it is unlocked ( i use Optus Sim card) anyways i was hoping to install unbranded cooked rom found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=422417
I didn't know I needed to install HardSPL, i tried but it failed so i continued on (i know I'm retarded) so i tried using the Diamond Unlocker.
I hit Next, Next, Next until it got to progress bar it stayed on 0% then jumped to 100% and said that my device wasn't compatible or something like that, at that point the image on the diamond faded to black screen. I This happened when i tried Hardspl but i just hit reset and it turned back on alright.....this time it didn't, it doesn't react to the power button at all, iv tried hitting the reset button, booting into boot loader even though I'm pretty sure it doesn't have one, and tried MTTY which I'm pretty sure it pointless because my diamond doesn't turn on.
Please share any knowledge or ideas you have on how i can fix my Diamond, or where i can send it to be repaired (I have no warranty with Telstra by the way)
Is my diamond bricked for life?
EDIT: In the hope that my Diamond will return to life by holding the power button, i have noticed i can still feel the vibration it usually makes when turning it on although NO DISPLAY

Thats the only problem, i have already thought of this, although i don't have proof of purchase anymore, can i still get it repaired without proof of purchase?
ANY Replies or ideas are appreciated, please HELP
I would contact them without a receipt you may have to pay for the repair
but I don't see why they should not make money of you repairing your broken device
Thanks for the reply, my question is, i bought this phone off a friend and knowing him he got it from someone else who probably has stolen it, so if i take it in for repairs and it is stolen I'm screwed....right?.....are they able to I.D a stolen device?
Thats what you get when you buy a stolen device. You'll pay it back one way another.
I guess but for $250 who wouldnt take it. I guess i should have read ALOT more instead of rushing a flash. So last question, does anyone know if its physically possible to fix the phone, if it be replacing a bit or get a technician to hardwire or something......is it possible? or am i stuck with a nice new paperweight?

I think its a case of what goes around, comes around.
Hey
I have a similar problem. But mine is bought and original and I have a receipt. Anyways, there's no way around the sending, is there? Because, I think, it'll take a lot of time and regarding the fact, that the mistake is on my side, the warranty is void, isn't it?
Hi,
Problem:
My phone isn't rooted. No other ROM installed. Not flashed. Not bricked. Works perfectly, except the touch screen is dead. I have set-up a patern to unlock, which I can't unlock... so I can't use the phone.
Is there a solution to this issue?
I don't want to install another touch screen, just delete the whole phone and not set-up a patern to unlock. I tried to search for
- RSD lite since that's the only thing I can work with and it's easy
- "unbrick" my phone
- a similar topic like this one >http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845912<
No success...
Greetings.

well you can fix teh touch sreen (buy a new one and replace it - it's easy),
but i don't want to do that, I just want to disable the touch screen (no pattern lock). I actually want to format it, so i need to restart and i wills kip the pattern lock
Anyone with a tutorial?

Sit down and seriously think what you are asking and what your phone does.
If you wipe phone you would need to 'Touch Screen To Start' so that option is out the window.
To get rid of the lock pattern you need to enter the lock pattern first, reason being for security.
New touch screen or nothing, sorry.
I have a similar situation. i am trying to sell it cause i bought another phone but need to factory reset or delete all the info from this one. cant even get pass the unlock pattern. its a motorola cliq. please help
You're right,... Bummer! I'm sitting down and speculating. Seriously, no work-around?
Isn't there a costum ROM without the "touch to start"?
Sent from my MB511 using XDA App
I just got a replacement unit it from Handtec, load it up, still no option to use speed dial. Same thing with the first handset I had. I long press on the keypad and nothing happens. I know one person suggested factory reset to fix the issue (although doing that now after like 2 hours of setting the phone up isnt an enticing option). Has anyone else had issues with speed dial not being available? Any ideas how to resolve it?
Thanks
Well, you can add contact shortcuts on your desktop.
I also have no option of speed dialing, but I don't really need it.

Assuming you have a D5803 model running on FW .105 UK, I wouldn't know why that shouldn't work.
On FW .98 DE, however, it definitely does work. So, you might want to flash this FW to check it out.
You could use the exDialer app.
Yeah, I've tried other dialers but I don't love them. Can the Samsung Touchwiz dialer be used on Sony phones somehow?
I'm using FW .105, doesn't really make sense to go backwards for this. Maybe in the next update it'll get fixed or something? It's not any type of deal breaker, it's just annoying that something so basic doesnt work.
Just tried out a few dialers. EXDialer is nice, but it's almost offensive that he requires a 4 dollar donation or you get constant nagging. On principle I won't be using that. Dialer+ is like a disaster of too many things at once.
Nothing else seemed like a solid basic dialer, unless someone wants to make a recommendation.

Not a direct fix, but I use Nova Launcher. I've created a folder of quickdial contacts, and made it swipe to open. On-click is the phone, and the icon is phone, so it makes a nice little speed dialler from the home screen that looks like the standard phone.
