I'm currently still running on the WWE original rom, as yet haven't seen any need to upgrade. I'd like the GPS functionality, but don't NEED it just yet...so I can wait.
However have just moved house and my network signal is now marginal at best, has anyone seen any improvements in GSM radio signal with any of the newer roms ?
cheers
anyone have any views?
Anyone experience no phone signal after flashing a ROM to your Pure? I got the device two days ago and immediately went to flash it using one of Duttys roms and also from Tess (IV). With both attempts I get no signal bars whatsoever. That being said I get an "H" where the "3G" used to be. I know that some of you have talked about the HSDPA but even though I have been doing this awhile I am stumped as to why I would get no signal bars. As long as HSDPA doesnt result in more charges from my provider I could care less about that. Hope that makes sense and I hope that someone has some information for me!
Thanks!

Hi, yes, I have seen the situation on some ROMs where I get 'no bars', but the phone seems to be operational anyway. My suspicion is that it's a problem with the root software from Microsoft, not the ROM chef, since it goes across ROMs.
3G vs. H has no bearing on the problem. The H just shows that the phone is connecting via the higher-speed data linkup. Some providers charge more for H, others don't. You'd have to check with yours.
Thanks for the quick reply. Is there a way to figure out if AT&T charges extra for the "H" connection speeds?
Also, are there any roms out there that have figured out a way to slightly increase the size of the virtual keyboard for easier typing? Both roms I have used so far have kept the keyboard the same and not sure if there is actually a way to increase the size. Lastly, I am reading up on roms trying to find one that I would like but one piece of information eludes me. Does the rom I am researching support landscape mode in Start and all other aspects? Right now I get landscape in web browsing, email and that is about it. I may be missing something here but thought I would ask for clarification.
A note about the Tess IV rom is that I really loved it. It was super smooth and very fast unlike the shipped rom from AT&T.
I found the original rom to be bulky and slow in responsiveness when moving between features or applications. I am sure that is why others moved away from it as well.
AT&T does not charge extra if you enable HSDPA. This is my second AT$T WM device and I have enabled "H" on both.

How do you enable "H" or force it on?
The type of signal is dependant on whats available in the area you are in. As far as I know you don't force "H" to come on, your phone just accesses the best available signal you allow. If " is it then.....
My att plan is the basic plan with the $30.00 data (unlimited) that is required when you buy it. No charges for "H" access for me.. good god, with the way I use slacker all the time, that would bankrupt me in a week.. lol

I'm using the ENERGY Leo ROM, and notice the same.
Thing is that while H is showing I get no bars and no phone connection. Then the phone automatically switches over to 3G and dials out. This can take up to 10 secs - so, can be annoying!
Could this be a locational thing, as I notice this happening in one location only - perhaps where the signal is not strong enough to utilise the H connection.
Or, is it that H is used for data and 3G only for telephone calls?
H is actually HSDPA and is the 3G data connection. 2G equivalent would be EDGE for example. You will only pick it up if A) Your device supports it, B) Your carrier provides it!!, and C) Your are in a stong enough signal area.
You mention that you flashed to a custom ROM but have you flashed your device to an updated Radio ROM? This is the part of the phone that deals with communications including Voice, Data, WiFi etc. Using a good one makes a world of difference.

Flashing a Radio is the same procedure that you would use for a custom ROM. Of course, many of you may already know all of the above but some people may not!

No, I thought the updated custom ROM would also update the radio.
What is your reccomendation for the radio?
How do I find out radio version I've got?
I dont have any specific useage beyond taking calls, and updating Twitter, weather etc.
What version do you think is best?

Some ROMs do include the radio, such as Dutty's HG 9 & 10 ROMs.
The radio version is usually included in the name of the ROM.
For best radio, it depends on your carrier and location.
To find your current version, soft reset, it is listed at the bottom next to "R" upon booting.

I checked my radio ROM - it was .17.
Just updated the radio to .91 - immediate improvment in access to 3G cellphone signal.
Of course, I need to use it for a couple of days to get an accurate feel for improvement.
BTW. I'm based in the UK.
I've had varying success using different versions but .57 has always been head & shoulders above the rest for me.
As always your mileage may vary
I keep losing my 3G at work where it used to be full bars all day. Now it seems to be one or two bars and it drops to 2G most of the day now
I flashed the new radio but have now gone back to 26I as I thought it could be that. I am on Cyan's latest - reflashed after a full wipe.
What could be causing this? It seems no matter where I am the 3G signal is dropped throughout the day.
Has to be the radio or ROM?
Could it be the APN settings?
Is this a rom specific issue?
I don't know if it's a ROM issue or not. I haven't seen any faults in the cyanogen thread about this...
I'm interested to hear how you folks are finding your phone's signal strength and reliability, what radio version do you have and are there any issues with it?
I have Baseband 20.208.30.085AU_3805.06.03.03_M and I sometimes lose the O2 signal in my home.
Edit: I should have posted this in Q & A ... doh!
I'm running baseband version 20.2810.30.085AU_3805.06.03.16_M and I can get -83 dBm at best on my home's wi-fi network.
I installed this version last week after having problems connecting to any wi-fi signal with 20.2803.30.085AU_3805.04.03.12_M
Until now I haven't had any problems this week and it's running fine.
Thanks for your reply. How was your gsm signal before and after the recent radio flash, have you noticed any difference?
In the current establishment I'm in, my best signal is -89dBm on a UMTS (3G network). Unfortunately I don't remember my signal strength on a mobile network before I flashed my new radio. I can recall however that it was quite slow...
What Mod/Android version are you running? It's important to have a radio that matches the proper rom in order for it to work properly.
I have a new IS without root etc, the unit received an OTA update the day I got it. The current software No is 2.30.405.1. My only gripe is the phone signal here, but having said that, it doesn't seem as troublesome today. Also my battery life (today at least) appears to be improving with time and use.
That's good to hear that your signal is getting better! Coverage in your area may be a factor as well.
This XDA thread has a list of IS radios matched to certain RUUs. Based on the versions you mentioned previously, your radio matches your RUU version. I was kind of banking on the fact that they didn't match up, in which case we could of probably solved the problem.
What kind of signal strength do you usually get?
Keep us posted if your signal improves or not and we'll see what we can do if need be!
Well I'm sad to say that I've just returned my 3rd HTC IS, all 3 had signal issues for me on the O2 network. I loved the build quality, style and the Sense interface .... what to do now?
I am having a weird issue. When i flash a custom rom I only have about 1 or 2 bars of signal. I have tried both holics and dark raider and i have the same issue with both. I am currently running the stock rom and I have 4 bars of signal. Can anyone help me with this??
I know the *#*# trick and i am on lte and i have the correct apn settings for the phone. I am lost. I do have a refurb phone and dont know if that would have anything to do with it at all.
