Just this morning I broke my nexus's screen. After I was finished crying about it I called up HTC and they said they would replace the screen for a price or I could send it back, they would need a credit card on file, but they would replace it for free since its still under warranty. My problem is, my bootloader is unlocked and I'm rooted. I told them on the phone that I would think about it and call them back, got a case number and all that. I didn't want to tell them about my bootloader because I thought they would write it down and hold it against me. My question is, if I send it back to them and they see the bootloader is unlocked will they charge me for another phone instead of replacing it for free since I voided the warranty by rooting it? Or is my hardware warranty still valid? Also would it be risking it sending it back with an unlocked bootloader for an exchange? or should I just get the screen replaced?
Thanks!
Btw this is how the horrible accident looks

Have you ever tried the search button? This has been discussed SOOOOO many times already. I personally have had 2 phones swapped out with HTC, both with unlocked bootloaders. I received replacement phones with no charge to my card.
I used the search button, but none of the topics answered my question directly, most of them just talk about having a 3rd party replace there screen or their screen had dust and HTC replaced it due to a hardware defect by them. I even asked the guys at android central, they never gave me a clear answer. Thanks for you're answer tho, I was looking for someone with a personal experience of swaps
oh my god that poor nexus!! *cries*
anyways what he means is that HTC has been known to look past the bootloader and replace it for free if youre still under warranty. its like they dont really care we are doing what we are doing

be prepared to pay for the screen... cracked screens are not covered under warranty bootloader locked or otherwise..

I've just bricked G1 yesterday night, ( Hangs on bootscreen, no recovery no bootloader option )
Tried everything and;
I think only solution is programming with JTag.
Found these things.

But it seems expensive way :/
Has anyone know cheaper alternatives?
Have you had a look here? http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Dream
Be aware that it is rather advanced, and may require access to electronic equipment that most do not have, ( soldering irons, components, good electronics knowledge), but is practically free.

This is the page you wanted to link to.
Thanks for replies but,
I think first have to find out cheaper JTag Kit.
Or someone can repair it for me who lives in Noord-holland/Netherland.
Regards,
You should check around locally, I know for a fact that where I live, in the USA there are a lot of people who own JTAG equipment. This might sound strange, but look around for people who do computer repairs or even Xbox/PS3 repairs, often they own JTAG equipment and can help you for a modest cost.
I think G1 is completely death.
Better solution is:
A SledgeHammer

Fixed Succesfully
Update:
I bought a crashed G1 and replaced the mainboard ( T-Mobile G1 )
Now...
Downgraded and waiting.
I will not install DangerSPL which kills mine G1 before.
What should I do?
Update2:
CyanogenMod-6 Installed succesfully.

I got this email from gsmdokter.nl.
I think we can solve the problem, it costs € 35, -.
With deposit of € 15, -, these are also the research costs.
Let you know if it worked for me.
Hope it will help you, for now.
takes about two days.
Don't know if you can send your phone to them.
Keep in mind, the cost for sending your phone to them is for you.
Send them an email.

There are some problems with my nexus one.
I went to the ****ing HTC S'pore to repair it. After 2 weeks, I got the news and the quotation from their engineers. They said that "because you rooted your phone, you are not allowed to get the warranty any more, unless you can make the lock disappear and you will get the warranty again and get the free repair".
SOS Everybody, HELP!! Thx.
dude that seriously sucks. bad news first. you can't relock it. it can't be done. the good news. there've been multiple cases of people sending in rooted phones and still getting there warranty honored.(some guy sent his in 3 times even with them all unlocked). HTC will fix if its a hardware defect but if you bricked it your out of luck.
Actually cannot.
I have sent it in 5 times, sucker from HTC rejected 5 times.
**** HTC..
Uh, why blame HTC? Did you miss the big WARNING presented to you while unlocking the bootloader?
So let me get this right.
-Your phone came with a warranty
-You proceeded to do something that CLEARLY warned you of voiding the warranty
-You did it any way
-You expect HTC to still honor the warranty.
LOL

I have sent 2 phones into HTC with unlocked bootloaders and they have accepted both of them. Both had the dust under the screen.
Sent mine in for dust under the screen and got a replacement with no questions asked.
Mine was unlocked and they had every right in the world to deny me but didn't.

I had my unlocked Nexus swapped due to screen burn. No charges. The took the phone and honored the voided warranty
Guys. The OP is from Singapore. The HTC service in Singapore is completely useless. Night and day should one compare with the US. Probably cos there is little or no consumer protection rights in Singapore. But i digress...
I too have sent in my Nexus one with an unlocked bootloader. I would suggest the OP read my ordeal here to have a clue on how to work around them.

Anyone know where to get a replacement? The screen is completely kaput but it seems to still work, I hear calls and txt messages (ring/notification)..
I know I am not helping with this post, but could you put up an image. please.
I just want to see how it looks. Also, how did it happen?
Thanks

same, hope it was a freak accident and not a simple drop
Rule #1. Don't ever give your phone to a pissed off person... exhibit A attached.
Instead of replacing it with a new Captivate I went with the HTC Aria.. maybe not the best choice, but I think it will do the trick. I like the size, and GPS actually works out of the box. I plan on frequenting the XDA Aria section.
I'll prob try to sell my busted up Captivate on eBay, for anyone that might have bricked their own phone. Other than the screen the phone seems to work without issue.

Damn that's quite a busted screen :-/
Looks like a gorilla got a hold of that gorilla glass.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
That left a mark
hope you had insurance.......
poor , poor cappy...
What's the problem? That'll buff right out!
Wow that pic made me almost cry!
It's like watching a snuff film D:
Edit for helpful-ish answer: Hope you were paying for the insurance =/ I don't know where you'd go about getting replacement glass, and standard manufacturer's warranty won't cover physical abuse like that

Depends on what problems you're having and when you bought it. You can simply return your phone within 14-30 days, depending on where you live, and buy another one. No warranty claim needed.

When you send it to service, they need to check it. And if it is for replacement, they are sending your XZ to factory, so they change it. When they get it back from factory, you will get it back new one ofc. It tooks me 2 weeks to get new one, because of mistake at service (they changed motherboard instead to get new phone due dead pixels lol...)
i have a the problem only on 1 side of the screen i hope they replace it

In Australia we have a 30 day "Return for Replacement" warranty. I had my Z replaced yesterday due to dead pixels, and had no issues within this initial period. After the 30 days, not sure. My wife had an Xperia Go phone that developed speaker issues after being submerged in water, and had to be sent to a repairer as it was 2 months old.
Best way is to contact your contry sonymobile. In Slovenia we have 14 days replacement by law, Sonymobile Slovenia wrote me, that they change it if anything happens with phone in time of 6 months.
Hi everyone,
Unfortunately my phone dropped and the back glass cover and primary camera glass are shattered.
I can change it by myself (from years i can repair my phones without sending it and wait days and days) but now i cannot find any replacement parts on the net.
Can anyone help me please?
The part is like this: https://www.samsung-parts.net/epages/Samsung-Parts.sf/en_GB/?ObjectID=1212377
Thank you!
You sadly will need to go through samsung or see if you can still add protection plan to carrier and then do claim few days after since you damaged it so early into launch. All the parts are going into devices still and nobody is parting out phones yet. Cant even get replacement sim trays etc from china yet.

Thank you so much for the reply. The only thing to do now is turn off the phone, turn on my note20u, and using it until in my supplier sites show on stock the replacement

On the site that i linked in the first post.
Original parts and accept paypal.
For me here in Italy is the best and reliable site
ItsTek on Amazon store I have found to be very good before with genuine Samsung parts. Bought two S20 and S20 Ultra rear glass from them before. I think you'll struggle for parts though on the S21 until at least a few more months.
