Hi,
I'm going to sent my Nexus one to the HTC repair centre, because he's been having this annoying random reboots.
My nexus has an unlocked bootloader, with a rooted custom rom. Is this going to be a problem for HTC? I mean, did I lost my warranty?
Because the problem is a hardware problem (I guess), so it has nothing to do with the custom rom...
Is there any possibility to lock the bootloader again and make the device look like how it looked when I bought it?
Thanks in advance!
are you sure this is a hardware problem? these kind of reboots are not uncommon with custom roms, have you tried chaing roms or kernels and seeing if that fixed it?

I've changed the kernels a few times. An I had the reboots on CM7 and on Miui.
Those roms are pretty stable I guess? And I haven't heard others complaining about reboots.
the reboots occur really randomly. Sometimes after a phone call, sometimes while browsing, sometimes while taking a picture. Sometimes I take my phone out of my pocket and it has rebooted, so I have to type in the PIN-code...
I tried factory reset and a clean install, with/without a2sd. with stock kernel, or with another kernel...
I don't know what to do anymore
After you flash any of these ROMs do your restore via titanium backup or similar because it happened to me once that every time I tried to open angry birds (weather it was normal seasons or beta) it would try to start then it would crash and it was no in the market and every time I would go to download it the phone would start the download then right before the install (when it hit 100%) it would go back to the cyanogen mod boot logo (I was running cyanogen obviously) so maybe it is something in your data that is screwing up and it keeps getting restored with titanium.
When you say a clean install, does this include MANUALLY wiping the /system partition?
Anyway, to your original question, unlocking your phone does void the warranty, that being said, HTC is usually good about replacing phones when it is a true hardware defect and keeping it as a warrantied repair. Most likely, when you get your phone back (if they don't replace it with a new one), it will be locked again with the stock OS on it.
But, your warranty is void, so HTC does not have any legal requirement to fix it under warranty. I am just telling you what I have noticed from other people's experiences.

Yes, I manually wipe everything.
Ok, thanks for the answer.
Since the warranty is void, does it still matter with which rom I give them the phone?
If they see a non-rooted stock rom, maybe they won't think the problem is caused by a custom rom?
Probably not. For any hardware problem, I'd bet the first thing they are going to do is flash a completely stock ROM to verify it isn't some software bug.
It is just easier than trying to troubleshoot. I don't even know how many of them would turn it on and let the phone boot up as that takes away a lot of time depending on how many phones they service in a day.
Hi!
I have the same problem and I could assure you guys that's a Hardware issue!!!
Probably the same as the HTC Desire!
From my personal experience I've sent my Nexus One 2 times and the assistance resend it to me simply reinstalling Froyo 2.2! I've sent the phone another time and, actually, I already have to do it back!
So, my Nexus is away since 2 months, counting all the 3 times!
I hope this time HTC have completely repaired my device. But still waiting for it...
NOTE:
I have an unlocked bootloader too, and you know that there's no way (actually) to re-lock the bootloader.
So the only thing that I do, before send the device to assistance, was to install the original Rom (Froyo or Gingerbread doesn't matter) and the original Recovery!
Obviously you must Wipe ALL (cache, partition, etc), to not encounter some kind of error's.
For the unlocked bootloader question, I don't think HTC void the warranty, because the Nexus One IS a Developer's Phone!!!
So it might be OPEN!
I'll post back later when I have my Nexus back with me.
Sincerely,
Matthew

While it is a developer phone, when you go to unlock the recovery, it does state that it voids your warranty. But I think HTC is decent enough to realize when it is a hardware issue that they are willing to still honor their warranty. I know a lot of people who got their power button repaired with unlocked bootloaders, because HTC knows it is a valid defect. BUT... they are not required to honor the warranty as it is void the minute you unlock your phone.
Where can I find the stock recovery?
I'm afraid this is also going to happen with my nexus, that they send him back, but the problem is still there. I'va read it happens to al lot of people :S
It's not even sure they can reproduce the problem. It's not like the phone is rebooting every 5 minutes...
about the reboots:
I've read a alot about it on the forums. And it seems that lots of android devices have this problem. Does anyone knows what might cause these reboots?
Maybe it has something to do with heat, which damages the motherboard?

Does your warranty center not support the advanced exchange? In the US, you can have them send you a new phone (while holding $520 of yours in reserve)... once you get the new phone, you send the old one back and they release your funds.
If you are that worried about it, I suppose you could just brick your phone yourself by screwing up a radio flash. That will prevent the phone from even booting, but I wouldn't/couldn't ever recommend doing this.
Tomorrow HTC is coming to pick my phone up
Hopefully they can fix the problem.
I've put the 2.3.4 OTA rom on the phone
Thanks for all the advice!
Hello!
During flashing leaked kernel my phone was on soft brick, I wiped cache partition and data in CWM. This was the end of my beloved Note, it is 100% dead and none of the possible fixes posted works so far.
I have heard there is a possible fix by re partitioning and connection the phone in Linux environment, this way the computer reads the phone and can be fixed by repartitioning and could get into download mode. Please let me know if anybody confirms this.
Alternatively, what is the next step. My phone is still under warranty but I am scared if Samsung would find out the history of rooting or as my Phone is 100% dead they would not be able to find out, confused.......
If the motherboard needs to be replaced, how much would it cost, where should I take and most important if my phone recovers can I still play around with custom ROMs?
Look forward to suggestions bring my phone live as I purchased it on loan and it brings immense pain to pay emi for a dead phone.
Regards,
AK
Even it bricked by emmc bug, there shud be download mode still available
-First try to get other charged battery (or charge yours) and try to put in download mode, and look to Lt upper corner what is your flash score. If it is zero, simply reclain warranty.
-Otherwise try this

Thanks. I tried using charged batteries but still does not get into Download Mode also after reading somewhere I tried to connect using Odin assuming screen would be black but Odin detects. Even this did not work
So, no way of getting DM or looking at binary count.

Your phone is under warranty yet you are asking for costs? Those "recovery" method will give you a "crippled" device in terms of mem capacity.
So go and claim warranty. They wont know anything since your phone is totally dead anyway.

Hey, I just cam back from SS service. they said it could be a motherboard issue and they are replacing the motherboard.
Does that mean they would install the Stock Rom from fresh, I am sure yes.
Waiting for my recovered phone and educating myself to safely play around with custom ROMs.
One last question, which is the best stable custom ROM available for Galaxy Note, in terms of UI and better battery life?
Many Thanks.

Congrats on the replacement;
Custom ROM's are kind of personal preference, Best bet is to do your research now while you wait and you can decide for yourself which features you like / want / need in a ROM..
Suggestions to check would be ParanoidAndroid / CleaNote from my point of view, I've tried both but still run Stock ICS with custom Kernel.. Suits my needs...
while gaming, my phone suddenly hang and i decide to restart the device itself. upon booting, i am stuck at the "samsung" logo. I have tried flashing stock rom and kernel but to no avail. i can still go into download mode and recovery mode. Anybody know whats gone wrong?
And if i send for waranty, it is a one to one exchanged?

what is the current rom on your phone? have you tried going to recovery and wiping dalvik cache? still same thing? If it is, worst case you can try (since both Recovery and Download works still) is to wipe data in recovery and restart your phone again(Don't try doing this if your using an infected kernel and/or in ICS Rom)
Going back,
You have a soft bricked phone.. Why would you exchange it for warranty? you can easily fix your issue without returning it to Samsung.

Don't worry, if it is with samsung alrd. They'll sure give you replacement of the motherboard if they can't do anything to your existing one. This is considered as the "manufacturing fault", and therefore, they must be able to replace it.
1st few batches, N7000 came out under gingerbread 2.3.6 technology, and it worked very well without the eMMC brick bug. It is happened only when they upgrade to ICS, with their own stock kernel, which triggered the brick bug.
So long as they are delaying the fix for their own stock kernel with the eMMC brick bug removed, I think samsung is still liable to give replacement to user, no matter what you did to your device. As long as it is eMMC brick bug, and you have your warranty.
Why ?
very simple... Even most of the samsung sales person on their respective outlets, they know a lil bit or perhaps don't know at all about this bug. Unless the sales person is those who likes to play with handphone like most of us here.
And if they do know... they won't tell you as well about this bug. Otherwise, will you buy it ? :fingers-crossed:
So as a consumer, we have the right to be replaced if the bug has been triggered due to factory reset / wipe of data, since no one told us about this. **peace**.
Really do hope you get your replacement once they call you to take your phone.
Good Luck !

So the other day i was on my captivate and i had just factory reset it to original eclair. so i tried updating it with kies but it kept failing. So i then tried using Odin and accidently checked bootloader and now my phone turned off and wont show any signs of life. PLEASE IM ASKING YOU PLEASE HELP! What do I do?
Can u get into Download mode with button combo or jig ?
If ur phone shows zero signs of life, even when plugged in to a wall charger, then it is probably hard bricked and so u will need jtag service in order to bring ur phone back to life. Check out mobiletechvideos.com, they can fix ur phone.

It doesn't format the bootloaders per say, it you flash a stock ROM with Odin that has bootloaders and if it gets interrupted while it's replacing them, your phone will be bricked as it doesn't have a way to boot (hence the name bootloaders).
The JTAG service basically pushes the bootloaders into the phone. It's something we can't do on our own unless we have the right equipment (riftbox).
Like 4-2ndtwin mentioned, try to get some response from your phone, anything that would show life. That means you can recover on your phone. From there, you'd have to be able to get in download mode and flash Odin KK4 without ANY interruption.
My phone wont turn on and when i put it in charge it wont even show the battery charging. What else can i do to fix my phone?

Try the button combo to get in download mode (could even try a jig). If that fails too, you'll have to get jtag service.

From what I've read in your thread, you had the i9000 image working, correct? If so, why not just roll with it?
All Captivate/i9000 rom works with the i9000 bootloader. Captivate GB Rom will need to get the 2.3.5 i9000 Music Player APK, but aside from that, it all works. AOSP roms like Cyanogenmod and Slimbean will work out of the box if you get the captivate version. To install them, you'll need a slight workaround though:
Flash a kernel with CWM.
From there, flash the Captivate Glitch Kernel V13. It only comes in .ZIP format, which is why you need a CWM kernel before hand
Flash CM7 to convert the partition table(IMPORTANT. Rom will not boot if you skip this step.)
Flash anything from here on. If it throw a status 7 about device not being SGH-i896/SGH-i897, etc..., flash the Glitch Kernel before attempting to flash the ROM. You do not need to flash CM7 again.
(I know other ROM should have converted the partition table, but in reality it doesn't. Since you're flashing from Glitch, a CM7/MIUI kernel, they assumes you already have the MTD partition layout, and only resize it instead of doing a full conversion. CM7 check the partition table regardless of which kernel you're flashing it from.)
As a plus, Deep Idle works only with the i9000 bootloader. You'll get sleep of death otherwise. If you want your ATT World Phone image back, you can flash the custom param.lfs and change it manually. This can only be done from Touchwiz ROM though.
Received a warranty replacement for my HTC One (M7), which is a brand new handset running 4.4.2 and sense 6.0. The wifi on the device will not turn on at all. It just looks like it is continuously trying to start with no way to stop it. My last two of the same phone had hardware issues and I am hoping for an easier fix than sending it away again under the warranty.
So far I have tried:
- Factory reset
- Tried to boot to recovery to clear the caches, but it just goes to a black screen
- Toggling between Airplane mode (as suggested on some forums)
- Tested setting up as a portable hotspot. It goes through the steps and completes, but then just says that the feature is still switched off
Any help would be appreciated. I would rather not flash a custom rom, but am open to the idea if needed. If this is a hardware fault and needs to go away under warranty I would be better to find out now and send it off sooner.

Have you ruled out the possibility of it being your Router ?
have you tried to get wifi in different areas ? If it never connects to wifi anywhere it's most likely a hardware issue. I have never had a wifi issue with dozens of different software configurations. Unlocking the bootloader may void your chance of sending it back
If you dont want to send your phone back, i`d try to make a factory reset first. If that does not solve your problems, s-off your phone, install a custom recovery and flash a custom rom from xda. If that makes no difference try to flash a different firmware (that matches with your phone!!).
I hope that helped.
Good luck and if you have any questions, feel free to ask in this thread. :good:

In the house we have multiple tablets, computers, other phones, Chromecast, etc etc. My previous HTC Ones never had any issues with my wireless. The issue remains that the wireless on the device will not turn on at all in order to search for or connect to the WLAN. It just says "Turning on.." indefinitely.

I was hoping to avoid installing a custom rom this time around (had the stock M7 Google rom on previously). I may try a new rom just to rule out hardware issues. It's sounding more and more like Im going to have to return the phone...
Hi all,
I downloaded the latest TWRP from https://dl.twrp.me/i9305/ - twrp-2.8.7.0-i9305.img.tar 8.1M
I installed it with ODIN. The flash was a success and when the phone rebooted the touchscreen was unresponsive.
I have tried another version of twrp for this phone and I can get into twrp, but the touchscreen doens't work. I tried replugging in the ribbon lead for the digitiser and that made no difference.
Do you think its a software problem or that I have fried something?
Many Thanks
Andrew
Hi,
there are plenty of issues with TWRP and 2.8.7.0. I'm actually surprised you could even boot up your phone. The new recovery messes up with partition sizes and some other things.
I hope you have a backup of the current ROM as I suggest you to install Stock ROM again and stay on TWRP 2.8.5.0 and see if your phones works normally again
Hi,
thanks so much for replying. I still have the stock rom. All I have done is install twrp. I have tried doing a factory reset and it made no difference. I can still use the buttons on the phone, but the touchscreen remains unresponsive.
So if I download the stock rom for the phone and install you think it might make a difference?
Andy
Update:
Downloaded and installed stock rom from samsung (4.4) ... installed with success via odin. The phone boots and the screen is still unresponsive. I just cant believe I have broken the digitiser by installing twrp?!
Andy
Hi,
sorry for the late reply. I didn't get a notification via tapatalk. But anyway to come back to your issue: it's the first time I hear that a "corrupted" recovery could break the digitizer. I did the same mistake with the broken recovery but fortunately no issues afterwards. But apparently it's possible judging by some google search results.
I never had such issues and I don't know how to help you. Maybe there is a possibility to fix it.
Thanks for your reply
I hope there is a way of fixing it. It doesn't seem economical to fix this phone? The digitiser kit is around £60 ... Plus because I can't be 100% why this happened in the first place, it might happen again with a new digitiser?
Thanks
Andrew
I was looking here in Germany right now what I would have to pay for fixing the digitizer - between £50 and £60 as well, some even charging a little more. For £80 I could get a decent looking used S3 4G.
If I were you I'd rather buy another S3 again (or any other device) instead of trying to fix the broken one.
Did you tried to Flash stock recovery
