How upset am I?
I dropped it outside and bam, both broke. I have purchased replacement parts and they are almost here.
I have a question though. Is there any way to get a warranty on it?
And if there is, since I'm going to be opening it (and voiding the warranty with the sticker being broken) will my warranty still be valid?

I think they offer flat fee repair, about $150 if I remember correctly as for your warranty voided I guess they do not stick those warranty void sticker for nothing...
Well if you open it you will void the warranty...I'm sure it was cheaper for you to buy your own parts then to do a claim on it, but with doing your own repairs you void your warranty.

Yeah i figure that. But my phone had an unlocked bootloader. So I figured it was out of warranty anyway

Well if you recently bricked you precious G1, but still have warranty left, then your in luck, I was in such scenario a week ago and gathered up my courage and sent it back to RMA.
Waiting for almost a week, scared that i might get a call from HTC saying something like "hello this is HTC...WTF you haxx0r! pay $$$ and we'll return back your phone back alive"
Well, the story was quiet different, I got a call from them saying that they fixed the phone and will return it in X days at zero cost [well i paid for shipping when i sent it].
Done & Done, it cost me 5$ to get it fixed, instead of 60$+ by buying a broken g1 for Motherboard replacement, voiding the warranty, and the chance to screw up your phone even more.
*disclaimer: this might be considered a dishonest move from the owner's behalf since it was the owner's fault that the phone was broken in the first place, but is up to the owner if he/she wants to say a little white lie and send it to RMA, plus HTC told me the problem [brick] was covered under warranty*
-BTW warranty is voided if: you phone has water damage, physical damage, and/or warranty sticker was damaged or removed. [plus more that i might no be aware of]
I bought my phone earlier this month. Just now it feel off my table and the screen is cracked and not working. You can see the crack on the screen. What are my options here? The phone is rooted and you can see the custom unlock screen (if the screen was working). I do have insurance. Im still within the 15 day return period too. Im not sure if that matters

You can just fix it yourself, or pay a service to - google N3 lcd and see what your options are.
What was it doing do close to the edge of the table, and who knocked it off, (N3 doesn't move by itself) :silly:

First of all I'd compare the prices of having samsung repair it and insurance replacing it.
The samsung service center will fix it no matter what, but for a fee of course. About a year ago I smashed my S III's screen and sent it for repair to the service center in Texas. It cost me $170. In the end it's all a matter of how much time and $ you want to spend.
Do you know if your LCD is still intact? If it's not, I'd pay to have samsung repair it. LCD/glass assemblies are expensive last time I checked.

The return period is only 14 days and that does not cover damage caused by you.. The insurance will cover that but only after the 200 dollar deductible.
If you used kingo to ROOT then just use Kingo again to unroot and boot the device twice and the lock should go away.. Even if you rooted it does not void the warranty since rooting does not trip KNOX. Only changes that trip KNPX will void the warranty..
Please do not discuss fraudulent methods for replacement of devices, pay up, do the right thing.
And questions belong in the Q and A thread...so, thread moved.
these stupid Wacom digitizers have the glass completely stuck on with adhesive on the whole undersurface...it's a beetch to replace

You sure about that? When I contacted AT&T to get my phone replaced, the rep asked me if I was rooted, twice. I know you were talking about Samsung, but I always feel they are in cahoots with each other.
I have an S7 that still has a year of extended warranty (2x free screen repairs). I can't figure out if those will be voided incase I trip knox, so is there a way to get magisk without trippin it?

I think the question is where are you?
In America, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson–Moss_Warranty_Act; prevents them from voiding a repair for unrelated modifications.
They can't void screen repair if the software is modified, if that modification did not cause the screen damage.
I think the EU has the same type of restrictions.
What country are you located?

I know of those, but I purchased additional extended warranty that is on their own terms. They aren't allowed to say no to repairs because of the root, but the conditions state that modifying the software will void the extended warranty. And this is allowed, only the two years of mandatory warranty (which does not cover free repairs for broken screens) cannot be voided this way.
And I'm in the EU.
I'd guess that you're better off not messing with anything until that extra warranty has expired since it seems like burning toast is enough to trip KNOX.
considering rooting (rooted every device prior), but have always had carrier insurance which included warranty as long as there's no liquid or physical damage.
Having bought this device full price, and the one year of geeksquad damage insurance, I was curious if they care about root / ROMs, or if they even ask about it.
Also, with Motorola. If let's say the speaker goes out, are ALL warranties voided by unlocking bootloader, or only software?
Thanks!

Why on earth would you buy a warranty on an item that was cheap to begin with? I honestly don't know why people waste their money on warranties at all.

Because I wanted to, and can?. $60 to replace a phone if something happens instead of full price sounds nice to me. Thank you for your informative reply.
Bump
I would like to know this too. I remember reading a post somewhere that unlocking bootloader would void warranty for software defects, but hardware defects would still be covered. Hardware defects is what is holding me back from unlocking bootloader, as I usually unlock my phone right away.
I also heard that it is unlawful for companies to void your warranty. It would be great to hear from someone who is more knowledgeable about this.
That's literally what's holding me back right now. Lol. I've got all the stock software downloaded, and ready to go ?.

Bump.
Anyone?

According to Motorola support: The warranty on our devices covers both hardware and software issues. If you unlock the bootloader and even if there was an issue before unlocking the bootloader, it will still void the warranty.
I will return my device!
Don't want that limitation
Hello ,
I would like to know if any of you had this unpleasant surprise. I have a white line , 2 mm large , which crosses my screen. It's annoying, 1st day of use.
The problem is that I ordered it on February 13 and never opened it without the protection case that I received today .
I have not for whatever it's worth (pre-ordered February ~23rd, just received April 20th). It should be under warranty, at least, as long as you haven't unlocked the bootloader. Sorry to hear about your trouble.
precisely , I've unclocked the bootloader .
well, they took it in guarantee. I just have to wait for the return and hope that it will not take too long.

They can still do the repair but they will most likely reject warranty repair and tell you what price would be to repair it. Since unlocked bootloader voids the warranty.
Correct. I work in IT, and directly with Samsung, the fact that you unlock the bootloader, they will not accept in guarantee You'll have to pay for the repair.
Well, I'll see about that. But it is not a software failure but the screen that cracked inside.

Still doesen't matter. If bootloader is unlocked then whole warranty on device becomes voided. So then if it's software issue or hardware issue they will reject warranty request. Since they can see bootloader is unlocked.
Hi,
Good return of my tablet in repair. Changed motherboard and screen. Invoice 660 €. Thank you samsung and it will be a goodbye for my next purchases

Told you it won't be covered by warranty. So not Samsungs fault, your device had unlocked bootloader and they found out it was and charged you. Next time don't touch bootloader while warranty is valid. So this was your own fault and nothing you can blame samsung for, if you unlocked bootloader on another tablet like Lenovo or so they would of charged you as well.
