N1 is dead :( - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My first thread was in the Desire section and we got on the topic of the Nexus One not being sold through Google anymore but now its dead all together There's an article on mashable dot com that tells how its all being halted.

http://www.mobilemag.com/2010/07/18/google-to-stop-selling-the-nexus-one/
It was widely heralded as the first real “Google Phone” and now it will soon be laid out to pasture. If you were hoping to get your hands on the Google Nexus One smartphone, I highly suggest you do it very soon, because Google has placed its final order with HTC for the device. After stock from this shipment is depleted Google will no longer be selling the Nexus One through its official online store. Nada. No more. Kaput. You have plenty of other options in the Android realm, like the HTC Droid Incredible, but the Nexus One holds a special place in cell phone history.
That’s the bad news, but there are two smaller tidbits of good news. First, Google will continue to offer support through its customer service lines. So, if you already have one of these devices in hand, you can still get help when you need it. Second, Google is looking for a way to continue selling the Nexus One through a sales partner, but these sales will be restricted to registered app developers.
I guess you go out and buy just about any other Google Android device offered through your carrier of choice, but those oftentimes contain some carrier-specific doo-dahs. The Nexus One is, as far as we can tell, the only true clean-slate and completely unlocked Android that you can get on a very official basis.

And it's complete nonsense, as is the other exact same thread as this one.

Not hardly dead...Still plenty of life & development in our Nexus

For f**k's sake, stop trolling the panic.
How many topics a day do we need about this?!
FOR THE LAST F*CKING TIME:
Nexus One's ONLY purpose and the SOLE reason for existence was to promote android and show what it can do on a good hardware. They planned to have Nexus 2 to continue pushing android. Since so many companies like HTC/Motorola/Samsung jumped on an Android band-wagon, Google officially stopped Nexus TWO development and slowing down (NOT STOPPED!!!!!!!) Nexus One sales.
As per Google's CEO own words, "NEXUS ONE WAS SO SUCCESSFULL, THAT WE DON'T NEED NEXUS TWO."
If your brain is so tiny that it can't understand that Nexus One was a huge success for what it was intended for, and that Google NEVER intended to make money on phones directly, then I beg you, please go hang out on iPhone forums where you'll find your kin.
Jesus holy Christ.

I sold my Nexus on Craigslist on Friday. Bought a Vibrant Thursday. After holding that phone for 1 second I knew I had to have it. Screen was downright AMAZING! I love what the Nexus gave me but this is the nature of technology and you can lament it or accept it.

They saying shouldn't be "if you've got nothinng nice to say, say nothing at all" it should be "if you're an idiot, stop talking".

DarkDvr may I have another?
Took the words right out of my mouth...

That's good news, if the phone won't be available discounted through carriers, it will remain rare!!!! A true gem!
As long as we're be able to run Gingerbread when it's released it would keep me happy for many more months

Actually you can still buy one, you just have to pay $25 for the developer channel i think.

Android Fanboy's iPhone blog

Hello, My name is Ben and I've been addicted to android since the nexus one and I have a problem.
All kidding aside, I'm an Android superuser/nutjob. I broke my infuse screen late august so I decided to use an iPhone 4 for 30 days (then return it). I haven't used any Apple products since the mid 90's so this is quite a step for me.
http://blgalvin.blogspot.com/
The point of this blog this blog is to attempt a neutral standpoint on the iOS vs Android battle, and inform potential buyers that are "on the fence" I really try to point out that there is no correct answer, it all depends on what the buyer wants/needs.
The reason I'm posting this here is for input from Android users that have used iphones and to post a resource that can be sent to friends/family that are looking for new phones.
Good stuff.

First Batch of Nexus 4 a trial run by Google?

Many people have been toying with the idea that, the Nexus 4, being a Nexus device, could be riddled with bugs and glitches at the time of release, and thus have only placed a small amount of stock for sale so those issues only stay among a small amount of people.
The guys at Google, instead of testing for hours on end, let the public do so, and then check up on sites, like this one, for issues people have with the phone and thus fix it up. This could explain why the Bumpers are already stocked, but the phones themselves are looking to be released Black Friday, several days after, and this time, with a whole lot more stock as they have to take into account the back orders, as well poor guys like me who missed out.
What are your thoughts on this?
Wouldn't that be unfair to the people who managed to buy it out first? I mean they are essentially paying the same amount for a phone that is supposed to have the kinks sorted out already, not pay to have a phone in beta testing. But I really hope this is the case, and Google not only sorts out these issues but also offers compensation to the early adopters as to make everyone happy and fair!
Tin Foil Hat time for you i think...

Doubtful. I just don't think Google anticipated it being quite so popular. Worst of all, they allowed you to purchase up to 5 in one hit, which more then a handful of people did. 1-2 max on launch and up to a week or two after in my opinion. This would have ensured 'a lot' more people actually got a phone and it would have stopped eBay being flooded with N4's by people looking to make a quick buck.
Every nexus phone is trails . We get it test it Google updates other OEM make there phones with the new version. As far are you tin foil hat about a multi billion dollar company not testing I doubt that

Nexus 5 spotted on popular YouTube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kE5Qosf4IPk&feature=youtube_gdata_player
This shows that the nexus line is not only a reference device and or developer device but also a consumer friendly device. I hope Google won't end it or if they do rebrand it instead.
Anyways checkout the video imagine If Google now did this

Well if they do the my dear xda community is to blame. We tell all the noobs "Hey! Go get a Nexus 5. It's hot in the streets right now!" I couldn't remember the last time I saw a Nexus in a phone store in Chicago. So its hard to believe that millions of people made this phone consumer friendly without the help of rooters and developers. This is probably why they had crappy advertising to begin with.
EDIT: Just my opinion....

The Nexus will never be a mainsteam device like Samsung, LG etc. Thank god for that, or we will realy be flooded with noobs breaking their phones and blaming Google and toolkits and posting threads
When I was looking at phones at Sprint, they were like "here's what we got" and I looked and they had several options (G2, GS4, Note 3, HTC One, N5, etc.) and were like "this phone has this, this phone has this" but I didn't feel pressured. But they did point out the N5 was a nice phone.

No Lollipop for Turbo?

I've been a long time reader of this forum, since blackberry pearl was the newest hottest phone, but until now have yet to register. I got my turbo a week after release, and i love it...i read all these articles who's getting lollipop and when....If motorola is updating all their old phones from 2012, and us with their flagship phone have yet to get it, and there releasing phones this month with 5.0 on them to INDIA of all places, guys Turbo prolly isnt going to see it for awhile if ever...This phone IMO was like verizons ellipsis tablet, released with one update and no further information lol yeah we all want a bug free OS, but to do a 3 year old phone and not your flagship phone?

Motorola gets a really good share of profits only cuz of its sales of Moto G and Moto E in India! And please oh please... I hope u are not being racist!
And there are so many threads discussing this man.. If u said you actually having been reading XDA regularly u would have known better not to clutter the General Forum... What can people at XDA do about this? How can posting here help? Only Motorola can help, contact their customer care or through social media for your answer!!

These threads are tiring.
In that VoLTE is natively supported in 5.1, did you not consider that may be why there was a hold up, because Verizon wanted that?
I'll bet you 1,000.00 dollars we get Lollipop. Are you game? Post your paypal if so. I could use the money from an easily won bet
Edit: And yeah, that India comment was misplaced.
Yeah looks like its confirmed that the 5.1 HD Voice does mean it works with Verzion VoLTE (I wasn't sure based on the screenshot they had). Seems very possible when Motorola learned about this they held off on their 5.01 or whatever with HD Voice added in to just release the version with the code in it already. Which is a good thing. Because had they released 5.0.1 or whatever a couple of weeks ago, you would have people whining for 5.1. Hopefully this means it will hit the Turbo in a short time.
I made a post about the Nexus 6 coming to Verizon with 5.1 already on it and suggested that the DT might be jumping straight to 5.1 around the time the Nexus 6 drops on Verizon. My hit or miss post doesn't seem so irrelevant now. lol

Agreed. The phone is still fairly new and considered a current flagship phone for Motorola (Next to the Nexus 6 but that's Google's baby as well so I don't think it can count as Motorola's flagship entirely). Getting back to my point, saying that a flagship phone is not going to get an update to "the latest and greatest in android" is just asking for someone to talk badly about you and even more so a cry for attention. Which is something we don't need.
What I mean by India is a third world country of all places before here where it launched. I hope I am wrong but like my tablet I went into Verizon was was talked to by a salesman to go with this newest device it's a flagship device so I did and the updates are where? I left the Galaxy line with no issues great reception speedy updates... My tablet was the same thing a verizon exclusive updated once and forgotten.
What I'm saying is why update stuff that's old when after two years most people upgrade? My flagship store, I'm there daily to make sure it's running good, clean and people want to come back the old store has a customer base like the old phones they update them when it's time to update them things.

Don't worry about it. It's just kinda tense here sometimes, and we're all kinda surly and curmudgeonly because we seem to be kept in the dark regarding just about everything related to this device. Everyone has or had certain expectations from it and the support that we were expecting by Motorola and/or Verizon, and it's nowhere near as exciting as we'd hoped.

It's obvious we will get lollipop and now that 5.1 was released looks like that's what Motorola was waiting for and or the nexus 6 coming soon to vzw. Patience is a virtue and now that we have about 5 months now without lollipop then let's keep waiting. Better having a less bugs version than getting a rushed update of 5.0.1 or 5.0.2

Time to find a new Dev friendly company. OP gonna f themselves with this move. The only reason they are so popular is because of the devs.
So .. we are mad because a company won't give you free stuff? This won't be a popular post, but it's true 99% of the people that use this phone will never care about any development. Too bad there are not many choices out there compared to a few years ago.
I hope I'm wrong here, but, I could see this creeping towards locked bootloaders if OnePlus' data indicates the overwhelming majority of users run a stock/unrooted phone.
Certainly, the partnership with T-Mobile is paying off, I could see this expanding to more carriers & if the price is right,OnePlus would drop aftermarket development like a bad habit....
This is the dead for Oneplus. We will see no custom rom on 6t. Look at 6 thread, there are just 4 or 5 roms. Oneplus hype is over. I give return now my 6t. The 5t was the last with good custom rom support.

Assuming 20 dev devices sent out, there's likely over the double amount of bought devices because of the devs. Seems like for such a small investment in the dev community should be worth it? Hell, the negative PR due to ending the program should cost more.

They're not giving you (us) free stuff. They were giving very well established developers free phones. They had the list of developers posted some where. It was a very short list (under 50 world wide). It's a 0.002% kind of numbers they were giving out. (Based on the OP6 selling 1 million phones in the first month. We'll say they sold 2 million total since then). They're definitely giving out many more review phones. And overall it's a drop in the bucket compared to other advertising spending.
A good break down of this is the Linus Tech Tips video on computer hardware rebranding. He does a very basic break down of the costs of launching new hardware. And how much of a return they get by getting reviewers to review old hardware with a new name. It's not exactly the same as here. But there are users out there who purchase a phone based on development.
I'm only one person, and this is purely anecdotal, but the only reason I even considered this phone was due OnePlus previous history of being very developer friendly. Even with the half off deal through T-Mobile, I was still on the fence about getting this over a Pixel. I'll evaluate how this goes over the next year and if anything, I'll swap from a 2-3 year phone user to only using this phone for a year and go pick up the Pixel 4 next year.

I specifically use OP because I can mess with it, root it, change things. A month after the Galaxy phones come out, they drop to nearly what OP sells them for new. If I can't root my phone, why would I settle for the corners that OP cuts over a better - mostly everything - on a Samsung or Pixel? No reason in my mind.

Not to be rude but you seem to be posting very negative comments about custom roms and developers for the 6t. If you don't like the phone, return it. And as I've stated elsewhere, developers have been busting their butts trying to get twrp up and running. Which as of yesterday is now available. I personally don't see custom roms coming out until a permanent twrp was available. Now that that is, I'm sure there will be roms coming out in relatively short time. Personally I find your negative comments insulting to developers. Again if you are unhappy with the device then return it, no one's stopping you. I'm not trying to pick on you, I just find it frustrating and again demeaning to all the hard work that devs have been putting into making this phone available to use custom roms on. Rant done.

Not to be rude but you seem to be posting very negative comments about custom roms and developers for the 6t. If you don't like the phone, return it. And as I've stated elsewhere, developers have been busting their butts trying to get twrp up and running. Which as of yesterday is now available. No point to waste your time man it's just another entitled user that thinks XDA is a place to make your phone cool not a developer forum.

That's a lot nicer than I would have put it. Just didn't want to get banned. ??
Give it a year or so and the bootloaders will be unlockable.
I think a good amount of the posting is to "ruffle the feathers."
It's not like the ONLY people who develop a device are those that get a free device from the manufacturer.
If you want development on a phone that has flagship-like specs (good screen, latest snapdragon, above average camera) there isn't much selection in the USA. It's this or a Pixel or buy something abroad (e.g. Exynos based Galaxy). Otherwise your out of luck. As long as the bootloader remains easily unlocked and their devices are easily rooted I could care less.
Typical click-bait type of article with the expected response.

Assuming 20 dev devices sent out, there's likely over the double amount of bought devices because of the devs. Seems like for such a small investment in the dev community should be worth it? Hell, the negative PR due to ending the program should cost more.

The majority of their customers won't even understand what this means let alone care that OP stopped doing it. The impact it will have on their sales will be a rounding error. Yes, as a percentage of total units sold, OP likely has more customers that root/ROM vs companies like Samsung. However, it looks like they're trying to focus on the main part of the business and not deal with small things that don't drive significant sales. That puts a program like this on the chopping block.
I get why they might do this, however, the only reason I buy OnePlus devices is the development support. So if development dies, I don't buy anymore phones. We have multiple OP phones in the house. I bought the 5T and now the 6T before Lineage was out, sounds like I won't buy anymore devices until ROMs are available just to be certain. The problem with that is with the short development cycle by the time that happens OP maybe onto the next device...

This is a very valid point.
threatening to not buy devices because of lack of development is like spitting into a hurricane; no one will notice, and it wont matter one bit..
once any of the enthusiast companies start to get large sales volume, and smell corporate business, their willingness to help enthusiasts of any sort diminishes greatly..If google thought they could land more giant corporate accounts by locking down the pixel phones like samsung did, they would do it in a minute..follow the money is what all my friends tell me now a days, and they are right..
You can be as outraged as you want to over OP deciding to drop "free" anything to developers; its not going to effect any change of any sort, so you might as well save your outrage for something else..sooner or later, all bootloaders will be locked, and you wont have any better choices..
Did everyone see the update from OnePlus?
“Apologies, we weren’t as clear as we could have been. We’ve temporarily scaled back our developer program while we work out how to make it even better in the future. We’ll be updating the selection criteria and communication channels with developers in our seeding program for better co-operation. We will restart the program and select Devs based on the new criteria and will work on providing the best possible support to community development efforts for OnePlus devices.” – OnePlus Spokesperson
