Coming from a P3600 I did read about the TyTN´s screen alignment issues. Nevertheless, I figured that it can´t be the TyTNII will have similar problems.
Well, mine does.....
Pressing one spot on the screen occasionally activates another. Easily recognizable when drawing: I just put down the stylus and instead of a dot I get a line.....
I´ve tried the bussiness card trick but no good. Will wait for the Brando screen protector to arrive and see if it helps. (Right now I have the HTC shipped protector installed, which is a rather poor solution)
edit: new findings:
1. only the left 25-30% (portrait mode) of the screen is affected
2. By pressing fairly hard on the screen I can duplicate the problem in 80% of the attempts
3. Have adjusted the registry value for screen sensitivity to 250......light to normal presses register correctly 95% of the time.
Using the finger instead of the stylus I have 100% success rate
4. Don´t really want to send it in yet for fear of the repair guys just doing a hard reset, testing for 5 seconds and sending it back
Hehe, i got scared at first, i'm pretty sure that's connected to the finger scrolling and is not a hardware issue. You can try to disable TouchFlo (in registry, i don't remember where exactly) and see if it helps, i'm pretty sure it will fix it
About the finger issue: even if we don't get the HTC Touch hardware that detects finger (or so they say) our Kaiser kinda detects finger too, at least i feel like it does, so this strengthens my point about this being connected to TouchFlo
My G1 has problem in its touch screen when i press upper part of the screen then it presses downward it is the hardware problem or the software problem .
Previously I have switched ROM from HTC to Cyanogen 4.0.4. Is there any way to slove this problem.
Can you be more descriptive. I'm leaning toward hardware issue. Once you say what exactly is going on, it can be pinpointed. Always format, wipe and install.
The actual problem of G1 is that when i point the upper part of touchscreen then it won,t point the pointer there instead of were i point it goes to different location. What is the problem it software problem or hardware problem.
wipe your screen with your finger. The problem is the capacitative screen, if there are oily patches in the lower part of your screen, they usually have just enough charge for the screen to detect a touch, in roms that don't have a multitouch kernel (or places where you can't use multitouch) pressing on the top part while there's a charge on the bottom makes the screen register both touches. When you wipe with your finger, you even out the oil across the whole screen and it requires a higher charge to actually do something, but not more than that of your finger. It sucks that keeping the screen clean is so hard/detrimental (though there are capacitative-touchcreen friendly gloves if you're into that)
Thanks....................
Hi everyone, first post and it's about a G1 I recently purchased.
My phone is using the Cyanogen Mod 6.0.0-DS, which is freshly installed. The weird thing is that about 2/3 of my screen (when in portrait mode) is unresponsive when I place my finger on it.
When I touch in the Left 1/3 of the screen, it recognizes my touch and works. The even weirder part is that when I start my touch in the 1/3 and move into the other area of the screen, the phone recognizes my movement.
So say I'm on the home screen and swipe left to right. The screen recognizes my touch and I can hold down the touch into the right side of the screen and it follows my movements perfectly. It's only when I touch in that 2/3 right part of the screen when it touches not recognize the touch.
Now, my question is this: Is it software related or hardware related? Is there a setting I can use to maybe calibrate the screen. OR do I need to replace the screen (or digitizer? can someone help me understand the difference)?
Thanks in advance for reading. Any help is greatly appreciated. Ask questions if need be
-Adrian
I am having this issue, too. Anyone able to help?
Its common, I had couple of phones with intermediate touch issues on a portion of the screen, a new digitizer took care of that.
ok it doenst happen when i lay the phone down on the surface and click on the screen it works perfectly
however when i hold it with my right hand and touch the middle of the screen with my thumb
it opens up phone dialer, or appdrawer or vibrante cause it clicks the capacitive button.
when i hold it with my left hand it gets a little bit better but it still does.
if i hold the nexus carefully and touch the screen , it works, when i hold it like this
the things gets better when i put a thick case like otterbox..
is this a hardware issue? ( found similar video on youtube)
my phone is rooted but can i still get a replacement phone?( already put everything back to stock)
and if i do get a replacement, are they going to charge me with anything?
my current nexus one trackball doenst scroll up but everything else works.
How many of you guys got a replacement even though your phone was rooted?
Make sure part of your hand doesn't touch the screen.

it's a hardware issue...
all you can do is not grip the phone too closely to the edge of the screen. It registers touches even if you are not touching the screen completely. But that to be a problem you have to have giant hands
I've had this happen to me once since I had it from launch day. It did happen with my Otterbox commuter series, and a clarivue screen protector. But I turned it off and on again and it was fine.
anyway as stevio jobsio whould say, you're holding it wrong

ok so it is a hardware issue?
no i am not touching any part of the screen. i made sure i wasnt touching the screen.
but it does happen when i hold my phone closely to the edges.
i never had this kind of issues with other touch screen phones..
Well I dunno... One finger at a time and your good to go unless you got fat hands lol

I can confirm that my device too does this. When lying in bed I browse the net with one hand and try and scroll....the edges of the touchscreen seem to register depression when the chassis is pushed or gripped too hard also.
It's a minor irritation to me, but I agree it is a hardware issue.
I am not sure whether it is my mind playing trick with me or not, but I feel like my phone is less sensitive after I did the hard reset (power+volume down). Sometimes I need to press 2-3 times because the first light tap was not detected.
So is there anyway to increase the sensitivity?
I have the same problem, but no idea that is the hardware or only software problem.....
Fresh owner of this Optimus 2X in France, in our community, frandroid.com, we encounter the same problem , I think this is a software issue.
Did someone already contact LG??
Maybe they should include this into the bug list thread.
May I know were you guys having this problem since it is out of the box? or after reset?
I have the same problem started from day 1 till now
I have the same issue and already thought I'd be the only one having this problem.
I would not say it's a problem with sensitivity, but it feels like the touchscreen goes into some kind of sleepmode where then you need to press a second time, to wake it up.
Continuous touching is no problem. (like when typing rapidly on the keyboard)
This video is not from me, but it shows the problem.
Have a look at 13:28 and 13:37. The reviewer tries to hit the "Ackermann" entry, but the touchscreen does not recognize the touch. At 13:37 the guy has to press another time to get the entry selected.

Yes! The touchscreen is definitely less sensitive than my old HTC Hero, and gets quite frustrating sometimes when a scroll misses the first part of the movement or a click is missed.

just in case, are you guys using 20110218 baseband too?
The same problem here. If I unlock the screen and then tap on any on screen apps, I need to touch again for it to open. Only the first time though, after that it function ok. I think this is a bug and needs to be fixed... I have my pc for double-click.
Yep, count me in. Same problem here. Sometimes screen taps aren't registered. Will do some research later on, but I think it's a software problem. (maybe you have to tap 2x as fast )
Hi,
same problem here!
Potentially a driver issue. A Nexus S user had a similar issue in this thread: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/18431-tuning-driver-to-deal-with-unresponsive-touchscreen/
He managed to tweak the driver and it works fine now. Need to know C++ (I think?) to understand though.

I see, then probably they will fix it on the next update/gingerbread?
Same issue here.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the problem seems to be that the screen has zero tolerance when it comes to tapping and swiping together. If you tap and slide your finger a bit directly after the tap, the tap is ignored. In other words your tap has to be a steady tap when you click on a button or an app. Right on the spot and with no swiping or sliding afterwards. I can't reproduce this on any of my other devices.
Ergo, it seems that the natural tapping I'm used to isn't working on the x2. It seems like I have to adjust my tap. I think that this could in principle be solved with a setting somewhere, because clearly the x2 is capable of registering this in for example a web page.
The great thing of this is that you can safely tap and swipe in the app drawer to scroll up and down or left and right. The downside is that a tap with a little swipe isn't registered at all. I would say that LG has choosen here for a wrong setting.
My personal experience about screen sensivity.. can you confirm if it's the same for your device?
I noticed a strange touch response.. and after some tests, I can say that the touch screen and icons are influenced by the surface where the phone was put!
with the phone in my hands, it's all ok (only sometimes - rare - I need to tap more than once).
If I put the phone over a glass surface (like a glass table) without touching it with both hands, the touch and the icons not respond!! NEVER!
If I put the phone on my scanner the touch screen works ok, but the icons not (or only few and rare taps was detected).!
If I put the phone over my big Onkyo amplifier.. It works like in my hands.. or better!! even without touching with hands.. only with a finger!
Put it back on my glass table.. and all stop working again. If I put a aluminium foil under the phone (between phone and table).. the touch and the icons works again !!
If I put it on the bed.. it don't work.
LG support say that they have tested the phone about this issue after my report.. but no strange response was detected by them. I don't know if they really tested it..
Try it and let me know what you think about!
tested on glass surface, I can press and swipe through pages with a finger without problem.
it is true that my device is not so responsive, but aint reaching that level yet
i read about a similar behaviour on other devices because some devices need a proper grounding for the capacitive screen to work correctly. You can find this problem via google.
Some devices have problem in a car-mounting, for example.
But i think thats not the problem the thread-opener talked about?
Guys I'm looking to get this phone and after reading Engadgets review of the X2 where they mention that the screen is not as sensitive to the touch as other phones I got a bit worried and started googling which lead me here!
Is this true? The screen isn't very sensitive and you have to apply more pressure than other capacitive phones?
I know that the OP is talking about a different issue but I reckon LG will get that sorted out via software update, or at least hope so!
Please do post your experience about the screen sensitivity of the X2 as this is putting me off. I currently have the Motorola Milestone 2 which is very sensitive to the touch even with a screen protector on it.
Cheers
