i have cyanogenmod 6 rc2 installed on my nexus one.
my problem is that every time i connect my phone to laptop through usb, the icons of the programs which are installed on sd card change to the default green android icon (on desktop not in main menu), i think this is because the phone disconnects from sd card when file transfer is in progress between phone and laptop.
i must delete and restore them from the menu each time manually, and this is very annoying. do u know any solutions to this?

remove card and reboot phone... (just a thought)
maybe make sure that the bluetooth explorer is turned off...it's in the comm manager settings for bluetooth. if it's activated it sometimes creates a separate "bluetooth folder" that could cause some memory card detection problems.
Thank you Monkey Knight
Switching of Bluetooth explorer in the Bluetooth settings did the trick!
I have an ATT Tilt that I'm still running WM 5 on. (Correction: it is actually WM 6) I am having some trouble with some corrupt files showing up on my memory card. I went so far as to buy a new memory card and removed several 3rd party apps that I had installed. Even after this, the files returned on the new card. I cannot access or delete them. I cannot tell which files are being corrupted, I assume they are program and documents that should be otherwise usable. The file names show up as a series of squares, other odd shapes, numbers and letters.
Some of the 3rd party apps I am using are
Total Commander
WMWifiRouter (added after this problem started)
Google Maps and Mobile Apps
Opera Mini
I haven't made any alterations to ROM or anything else.
Any help would be appreciated on how to proceed in clearing this up. One app that I notice is affected is "Notes". I have lost some data that I had saved in that.
Thanks!
How did you get windows mobile 5 on it?
I have the same problem from time to time. There is no real fix that I have found. What I think is happening is, the phone is reading/writing to the memory card, and either it stops (beause you put the phone to sleep, or soft reset it) or some other method. Since the file was never closed/finished correctly, it gets curroped. I strongly recommend backing up your SD card every month or 2. That way, when things do crash, you do not lose all your files.
Last time it crashed. I hard reset the phone, and re-formated the sd card in my PC. It has been 3 months and so far no problems. Maybe you can try that...
Oops my mistake I have WM 6
CE OS 5.c.1622
Sorry
other things to check or try changing include:
1. the brand of the micro sd card
2. any power saving settings that might be getting applied to the micro sd card (in my opinion, power saving settings are notorious for such behavior and my advice is to just disable any power saving settings for the micro sd card/slot)
3. your usage habits regarding closing programs. my recommendation is to CLOSE programs (as opposed to MINIMIZING them to the background) when you are done using them.
4. how/when you remove the card from the device (if you ever do) and/or how you remove the card from your desktop/laptop (if you occasionally use a card reader). on your desktop/laptop, it is advised to "Safely remove hardware" before physically removing the card from the card reader. on your device, it is advised to close all programs that might be accessing files from the card, wait a few seconds, and then remove the card. most people will suggest shutting down the device before removing the card but it is my understanding that the card slots in the kaiser are indeed hot swappable (i've been using it that way for almost 2 years and have never experienced any issues with my 8GB sandisk).
5. getting a card reader is highly recommended, especially if you want to try to recover lost data or to repair the file system on the card. as a bonus, the card reader will also allow nearly 5 to 10 times faster read/write access when transferring files onto/off the card from your desktop/laptop as compared to activesync via usb sync cable.
6. avoid setting your programs to use the card as "cache". example, some people like to set their browsers' cache folders to the storage card. this can also cause file system errors in some rare and remote scenarios.
all these portable devices (phones, digital cameras, mp3 players) use the fragile FAT32 format as their file system but i've always hoped that M$ would some day provide an alternative file system (something like NTFS without its security features perhaps to keep things simple for the pda phone), but alas that day has yet to come!
Try copying all your files to your computer (in case something happens)and run an error check from your PC with a card reader. Right click on the card in Windows Explorer (if you have Windows), choose Properties, then choose the Tools tab, then click Error Check, and run the check.
had the same problem, lost all my programs. I copied a very old back up over to the card . once I had done that the original files reappeared.
elo every one..my kaiser have problem....
when i open file explorer..sudenly it no longer detect my SD card..any solution ?
You'll need to put your card into a card reader attached to a PC and see if the info is still there.
Then use the PC's error-checking tool to see if there's any problems it can fix.
On Vista you get there by right-clicking on the drive, then Properties > Tools > Error-checking.
I have had problems with my tilt not being able to see folders and sometimes the whole card.
Usually popping it out and plugging it back in fixes it.
I think the problem involves power saving methods WM uses. When it is still reading or writing to the card it shuts off power to the card. The problem only seems to happen when coming back from the standby state after loading a photo, playing a video, or playing music. After it's back up, i try starting the music or video and it can no longer find the file. Then i check to see where the file went and the directory is gone... Might just be a problem with the 2 different SD cards I have used. 1 was a 2gig Sandisk and the current is a 16gig adata.

Hi!
I need any ideas about how to approach problem from subj.
I got Diamond with screen physically destroyed, but phone booting up and can make/receive calls ok. All I need is get pim.vol out to restore all contacts from it. Biggest problem is that phone was set into StorageMode (Cardreader) by default, so it is not even asking when plugged in to PC.
Any ideas on how to make it into ActiveSync mode w/o hard reset and losing all contacts?
[edit]
More I think about it now, I probably can create 2577 (or whatever number works on Diamond??) folder on storage card and put autorun.exe (MortScript probably) into it which will enable ActiveSync. Can someone with Diamond handy find out which values in registry do that?
Thanks!
You could use MyMobiler to access it using PC, but it needs active sync :S
All the ideas I could have need to access the main memory.
Hi
I wrote a program which copies pim.vol to the root of the Internal Storage.
Simply extract the zip after connecting the Diamond (make sure it is unpacked with folders!) and disconnect the ppc. Wait a while, then connect again. You should be able to get pim.vol to your computer.
Its worked!
Thank you so much, kosherpig!
Its worked and I got all stuff restored! Awesome!
Extract data from device w/ dead screen?
I'm not really concerned about anything but the pictures and videos which were stored in device memory. (When it started acting flaky I immediately copied my SD card but I couldn't get it to mount properly before the screen went totally black).
So, the device is not mounting when I plug it in but it is sending/receiving phone calls.
Can I write a script that would allow me to "force" it to mount so I can see the device's internal memory?
kosherpig,
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! with the use of those 2 zip files, i was able to retrieve my pim.vol file from my broken diamond. you dont know how long and despondent i was over the thought of not being able to retrieve all my contacts...this def teaches me a lesson to backup my address book religiously. thank you again!
Could you not use the start key & d-pad to toggle to activesync for USB mode in settings & then using mymobiler you would have full control of your Diamond via connected PC !

Hello, I've got the similar problem as the orignal poster.
My phone is HTC Touch HD running WM6.1
The touch screen became unresponsive to touch (tried a bunch of stuff to fix it), but showing everything just fine.
So I settled with that fact that it's going to the trash bin and decided to figure a way of getting my contacts out.
The device is set to run in Storage Mode upon connection to PC, meaning it can't Active Sync.
I can't see any Pim.vol in several browsers and managers, from regultar win explorer to total commander. It shows Album.vol file tho.
I've copied the files provided and everything would be fine.. but the phone asked for confirmation if I want to allow running that programm. I would have pressed YES, but... I can't.
Is there any sane way to bypass that confirmation? Thanks in advance.
Hey kosherpig,
I copied the Zip files and extracted them in the root of storage card of my WM6.1 ASUS p750. disconnected the USB connection and connected again, No hopes for the PIM.VOL.
Did I missed something in this...I am in Serious Trouble as My 7 years ongoing contacts are on stack with this Dead screen phone..
Please Help..

Hello. I have the same problem here (can't click on "yes" when prompt to execute). Is anyone has a solution for this issue ?
Hi,
My first post here, so hello to all forum users.
When I tried to copy/paste a file (~50MB) from my PC to External SD card on my Galaxy S,
it froze, then shut off - couldn't restart it unless I removed battery for a few seconds.
Sometimes it will seemingly copy/paste files ok, but then the files turn out to be corrupted.
The card (SanDisk 8GB class 2) was Ok at first, and I had copied some files to it without problem, but after a couple of days I noticed some file names were corrupted.
Are there any known problems regarding SDcards getting corrupted with the SGS?
Just wondering if anyone has had similar problems?
Thanks
yes - although my issue was that files would disappear after a short while.
i isolated the problem to my windows 7 OS running on an old Acer.
copying files via linux solves the problem. my brother's asus can write files to the sd card perfectly using windows 7
wierd really
Had a similar problem until I replaced my USB extention cable, The extension cable was USB1 not USB2, got a USB2 extension cable and its fine now even connects to Keis 1st time everytime.
It happened twice to me within 3 days:
first time while synching with media player.
The second: while bluetooth paired, in copilot gps, a call came.
I went to anwser on bluetooth, no respond.
then tried with the phone. It froze.
Then I had to shut down manually (I tried holding the butthon to choose shutdown but everything was frozen).
Then the SD card shows as corrupt.
can't unmount and can't format through the settings.
Got to do it from the top drop down menu. Then choose the sdcard and it asked if I wanted to format.
I've experienced this as well twice already. First is after uninstalling nDrive which is installed on my external SDcard. Second is when i'm trying to copy files from my external SDcard to my pc. I was trying to access the internal SDcard at the same time while i'm copying the files from external SDcard then suddently my galaxy s MTP gave me a force close message. Then it froze and i have no choice but to press power button until it restarts. After restart my phone told me that my external SDcard is corrupted and needs to be formatted. Can't unmount it either so have to do the formatting via the notification area. Really annoying as my phone is less than 2 weeks old. I have this bad feeling that there is a hardware and software problem with my phone! I don't want to send it back yet as it would take ages before i get it again!
This is happening to me as well! The only quickfix was to copy manually without using my galaxy to copy them (just used a sd card reader).
Is this a widespread issue? Any fixes?
BUMP, anyone?
