[Q/A] Bell Mobility: What, where, how - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all. Since I often seach about BellMobility-specific issues (and, frankly, never really find what I need), I'm starting this thread to sort-of give the BellMo clients a beacon of hope for their carrier-specific questions. So let's do this
-----
Q: I have a grandfathered Fun15 plan (the one with Voicemail, CallerID, 500 S/M-MS, Unlimited Mobile Browser [sorta means Unlimited Data]) on an old CDMAphone. Will it transfer over to a SIM and work?
A: In the author's case, it worked. I went to a brick-and-mortar store to do the first switch from CDMA to their 3G/HSPA network, mind you.
-----
Q: What's the APN configuration for their network?
A: Author's case, Fun15 pack:
Name: Bell
APN: pda.bell.ca
Proxy: web.wireless.bell.ca
Port: 80
MMSC: http://mms.bell.ca/mms/wapenc
MMS Proxy; web.wireless.bell.ca
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 302
MNC: 610
APN Type: default,mms
Some people use pda2.bell.ca . Q for them: is your data connection stable?
-----
Q: What's the operating frequencies of Bell's (3G/HSPA W-CDMA) network?
A: 850/1900/2100 mHz. For reference, it's what AT&T (USA) and Rogers (Canada) use for their Non-Edge/GPRS networks. You could get AT&T's Aria functioning easily here.
-----
Q: Does Bell have a classic GSM network to fall back on?
A: Nope. WCDMA 3G/HSPA only, no Edge/GPRS classic network like Rogers.
-----
Q: What's the best configuration for the data options in the RIL?
A: Frankly, I don't know, and I'd like to know because i get disconnected way too often for it to be normal. That, or their network sucks. Anyone up to answer this one?
-----
Bell clients, please contribute whatever you can (Including, but not limited to, negotiation tactics)

Can you get 3G with Orange UK?

Hey.
My N1 comes tomorrow and I will be using my Orange 3G SIM. Will the 3G signal work with the N1? Curious to find out as I have read some people saying it does and doesn't.
thanks in advance.
Had a look for the frequencies.
United Kingdom GSM 900/1800
not 100% sure, but It should work.
It'll work - UK uses 900/2100 for 3G (UMTS/HSxPA) like the rest of Europe. The N1 supports 900 / 1700 (AKA: AWS, used by TMobile in the US) / 2100.
GSM is 2G, so citing those frequencies doesn't answer the question. The N1 is a quad-band GSM phone and will support GSM/GPRS/EDGE (all 2G) nearly anywhere.
Thanks guys. I received my N1 this morning, rooted it, flashed HTC Sense on it and I love it
3G works fine, had my Nexus when they first came out.
can you give me your APN details? it won't work for me.

Should work fingers crossed this is what I put in on mine, I was surprised that the Nexus didn't find them automatically.

No Edge data or 3G or HSDPA, Phoenix 4.5, I9000UGJK4

All,
I flashed Phoenix Rising 4.5...love it. The issue I'm having is with my data connection. I just bought a house, YAY, and we were there with some friends last night moving some stuff and just enjoying the clean, empty space. I looked at my phone and realized I had no data connection. Phoenix shows data as HSDPA, so the little H wasn't on the notification bar. My friend was next to me with her iPhone, cringe, and she had some 3G but was bouncing back and forth to Edge. I had nothing.
Is this a problem with the modem, a setting I can adjust? Something? Once I had my wireless network setup it won't be so bad but I'd hope I would have some data. Any help would be appreciated. Also, if I need to flash another modem, any suggestions? I haven't flashed a modem by itself before, hopefully it will be easy.
Thanks.
What modem are you on? I would suggest trying a new one. The captivate, imo, didn't get very strong connections. My other non smart phone had better signal strength overall. On the other hand, my captivate had better signal at my house than some of my friends' phones.
Samsung Captivate
Firefly 2.0.5
SpeedMod K12U
JK4 Modem
I'm on the JK4 modem that come with Phoenix Rising 4.5. Normally my signal is very strong and I had full bars at my house, just no data connection. Does the I9000 JK4 modem not support Edge, I don't even know if Edge is an international connection type.
Cant see where you are from but does phoenix have apns already in it?

I'm in colorado. When you mean APNs, you talking about apps that shut off data? I haven't seen any in my searches. I wasn't sure if there was some data setting I could modify with SGS tools.

Alright, that helped clear things up a bit. Use packet data is enabled, Data Roaming is not. I didn't know roaming still existed. What exactly counts as roaming?
My APN reads as such:
Name: ATT WAP
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
Port: 80
User name: Not Set
Password: Not Set

MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com

Anything look out of place here? Could this solely be a modem issue that doesn't support edge?
So, I was back out at the house today. I was on HSPDA and Edge so I guess I'm good. Must have been a weird instance. Thanks for all your help.

[Q] ATT Vivid on Tmobile... 3g? 4g?

I plan on getting a Tmobile sim card and tossing it in my Vivid, getting the $30 a month plan and using it till I get a different phone.
Any chance I can use 3g or 4g on it? I've heard mixed answers about it being possible as recently Tmobile "flipped their network" or something like that. Just curious if it as ALL possible to get 3g or 4g data on mah vivid. Thanks

In case you still need help, here is what I suggest:
For the unlock, use unlockusa.com to get your code. They're the fastest and most reliable on the market.
For the internet, use the following settings for your APN (Credits: http://htcsource.com/2012/08/how-to-sim-unlock-the-htc-vivid-and-add-t-mobiles-access-point/) :

Thought I remember reading somewhere that Verizon Moto X was SIM unlocked for international use only. Sounds like the kind of thing Verizon would do.
Not to sound like a douche, but this has been discussed many many times, and the answer is: Older Verizon handsets were "international" meaning they had international bands but wouldn't work on US networks. That's since changed, as now all Verizon phones that have GSM capabilities are unlocked for US networks and international GSM too.
The issue the OP is having is not based on the network working at all, it's that his data specifically won't connect. OP, I'd double check all the possible APN's you could find online and see if changing them would work. Remember, H+ is all you'll get on a VZW Moto X that's on ATT's network.

I'm happy with hspa+ but I can't get the APN settings to save.
It could ultimately be an issue with the way VZW "modified" the firmware. When on VZW's network, APN's aren't editable at all. I'm assuming you're able to edit them as you're saying that the APN's won't save, but sounds like it's giving you the option to edit them.
Try these various APN's
Code:
APN: phone
mmsc: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
mms proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port: 80
MCC:310
MNC:410

Thank for the clarification. My mistake. (BTW - this is an example of how a person can be civil and gracious in an online forum.)

I've tried these but it won't save
I haven't cancelled my verizon line yet. Would that affect anything. Do I have to do a factory reset before using another carriers Sim?
EDIT:
May try using something like an app to modify the APNs, such as this > https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tweakker
That's honestly the only thing I know, if the phone won't let you add them from the system settings.
You shouldn't have to FR the phone just to use another SIM. If that were the case, then using the phone globally wouldn't work right as the APN's wouldn't sync up. I don't think that having the line active on VZW would hurt it either because ultimately, the device needs the SIM to even register on a CDMA network, let alone LTE.
There's bound to be a way to save the APN's properly. If it's allowing you to add them, then there should be a way to save them. Does it give you the 3-dot menu button? Or a button at the bottom to save or anything?

Yes there's the 3 dots then save. When I click save it goes to the main APN screen and there is no APN profiles there.
Just to confirm, you're typing a name for the APN right? Make sure that under mobile networks, the network type is set as LTE/GSM (or Global, I forget the option), and that roaming is allowed, and then try the APN. I wish I had my ST SIM active so I could test this with you.

Yes I am typing a name for the APN. I'm on the $35 feature go plan. Its possible it may not work on the moto x but it should still let me create a APN right?

VS980 on T-Mobile what Rom are you running?

Just like the title say, what Rom are you running using Verizon LG G2 and if you are running T-Mobile Rom please leave more info about what works and what's not (looking for a tmobile Rom for my vs980 as well.
I'm running ROM : Malladus 2.0.2
With out any changes
So far everything works fine 4G LTE few drops in some areas but that is normal I guess. SMS,MMS and calls works (using hangouts for txt and mms I just like it better than stock.
I'm on JackpotClavin's 24A-based CM11, and it is pristine.
Sent from my Nexus 7
I just switched from Verizon to T-Mobile this week with my VS980.
I've been able to get the phone setup and working mostly.
I'm picking up LTE, but it's slowish. Usually only picking up 1 or 2 bars and tot more than 12 mbps down/1 mbps up according to Speedtest, though that might just be my area. I'm in a larger city but still in the Midwest.I can make/receive calls just fine. I can send and receive MOST texts. Some text messages/calls I'm not receiving. Specifically, I have my online bank account setup to require a code which the bank sends via text message or call and my phone does not receive either, even though I'm getting texts/calls from other sources. This is actually kind of a big pain for me and if anyone could help me solve it I would be most appreciative.
I'm running CM 11 nightly. I did flash the 12b radio. I haven't tried the 24A radio yet.
Preferred Network is T-Mobile, although I've had the phone search networks a couple different times and there is always 3 T-Mobile networks listed and I'm really not sure if there is a difference or if there is a specific one I should be selecting since there is no way to differentiate them.
