Just tried to root for the first time and it aint happening for me.
I would like to overclock my milestone but i have been told that i need to root it first.
I have followed all the steps but i think i am missing something.
when i click on: apply sdcard:update.zip
This is what happens,
E:Cant open/cache/recovery/command
--install from sdcard...
(Etc it basically say's failed).
E:failed to open/sdcard/update.zip(no such file or directory)
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Dude, you have Android 2.1-update1 and you need to downgrade your recovery to the vulnerable recovery which you can only flash with RSD lite...check the sticky post here in this forum for instructions and links

You can't use the update.zip method with 3e recovery, look for alternative updating methods.. dunno if z4root might work (never used it personally)

Its really easy . Then after put darkys 9.3 final on and flash into recovery and select install from zip. Itd not hard. Video has it all.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
You have tot go tot second recovery modus. Theo most easiest way is tot flash speedmod kernel or something similair

Hello.
The phone is Samsung GalaxyS i9000.
I have installed cm10 from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778526
and i got bootloop, so I can start os or start cmw (volume up+home+power), only download mode works fine.
I tried to reinstall CMW from this link: http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager , but there is "..../recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.2-galaxys.zip" and Odin does not work with "zip" files, only "tar" for recovery.
Sorry for my english.
Regards.

choose a 2.3.6 firmware from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
flash it via odin , root your build by chosing the right cf-root from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
if you have flashed for exemple JVU , you have to choose the right cf-root file ( for JVU build )
then flash cm 9 via recovery , download from here
http://get.cm/get/3Fb
then flash any costum rom you want from development section
good luck
