which ROM is the fastest? - Touch HD Windows Mobile ROM Development

I just romed Energy but seems slow then my before ROM. Could you advise me the fastest ROM with manila 2.5 ? thanks in advance.

i need it too

energy rom update every week, it leaves this rom less time for further optimizing and testing.
try xannytech, but it did not update for a looooooong time, stoped at 21908.

i think the fast is win cloudy 0.3-0.5
win 6.5 + sense 2.5 is for HD2 with snap dragon procesor so when you flash into HD
you get slow performance
but with win 6.1 + sense 2.5 you can get sense with speed as HD2
try on

I tried and I tried
Don't expect miracle :
- Winmo 6.5 + Sense 2.5 : SLOW (ALL roms)
- Winmo 6.5 + Manila 2.1 : CORRECT (exemple kwbr)
- Winmo 6.1 + Manila 2.1 : FAST

I hade already manila 2.1 and it was fast enough. I understand that manila 2.5 causes working slow.

try to flash some rom's and decide what you like more...
"- Winmo 6.5 + Sense 2.5 : SLOW (ALL roms)" ---> really??? for this build's in my opinion you can try Energy, Cloudy, IoDa's and blackSTONEhenge...and after, i think that you'll change your opinion.
And again...please!!! don't open a thread with this questions!!read the others threads and flash to test!
Cheers.

i think its ok to ask about what's the fastest rom or combination of OS + Sense so that people will be aware what to look for. Same time with people who cook ROMs to that they're not into eye candies but more on balance with graphics and speed.
Please dont scare people like test this and test that.

do some benchmark for all rom here and show it

i agree to that..

Very well said,
Energy roms are fast enough for everyday use but takes little longer to bootup and get ready to use unless you leave in sleep mode.
My clean 6.5 Blueangel boots up faster than any rom with manila, I tried many roms and found Cloudy rom with few little tweaks run very very stable and fast. KWBR roms are pretty fast too

thank you for your help.
I will keep the Energy for a while, may be I get used of speed
may be I need a machine which has more powerfull processor, may be the best to wait for a machine with windows mobile 7.
thank you..

I tried latest versions of Energy, Cloudy, Blackstonehenge (not IoDa's one) and yes they are slow.
Precisely, they are SLOWER than a good old optimised ROM WinMo 6.1 + Manila 2.1 from 2009. In fact, think that people here forget the original speed of the Blackstone.
I use my Blackstone for Work so I don't care about eye candies, overloaded ROMs with useless apps and tabs. I just want a stable ROM with instantaneous response time (like an iphone does)

sorry to react like this but go buy a iphone
i and im sure every other chef here puts alot of work and time in rom making
we try to do oure best
dont forget the 6.5+sense 2.5 is originally designed for a device wich has twice the specs the blackstone has
i have read it many times many people want the reaction speed of a iphone well go buy a f*c*i*g iphone and leave it
these kind of messages can discourage chefs as the roms arent fast enough
i think myself and every other chef does a good job and we get the most out of houre device we can

1) I don't want/need to buy an Iphone ! I'm happy with my blackstone as it is (Mania26 FR Rom from Sept 2009 :Winmo 6.1 + Manila 2.1). Fast, stable and excellent battery consumption.
I tried a lot of new sense 2.5 roms because I wanted a new one (I'm sure a geek!) but finally I can't have a daily and professional use with any of them, sorry.
2) I agree with you : 6.5+sense 2.5 is originally designed for a device wich has twice the specs the blackstone has ! So ? So,if the device is not made for that, why make it go through that?
With an old PC, my choice is to set graphical options to low or med in order to have a smooth and playable game instead of setting it to the max and having beautiful graphics.. at 2 fps !
Same thing with my Blackstone !

we do that as 9 out of 10 users want the latest of the latest features and the newest from the newest packages in the rom and they dont really care about the speed
to be honest i dont do much heavy things on a daily base but the days i do heavy things and multitaks all the way my phone can handle it and the speed is ok for me
maybe cause i am used to the speed of 6.5 and sense 2.5 maybe i dont have the same high standards as you

Yes, I agree with this stats and your point of view. I also realize that I am in the others 1 of 10 ! Probably because of my professional use of the phone !
Even more, Manila standard HTC builds are oriented for a public who claim for animated weathers tab, double clock display (digital + analog) twiter and facebook stuffs.
but what about a good calendar , multiple appointments on home, etc ?
And I don't criticize the work of cookers here. I can't do it because I don't cook myself ! I only give my opinion !

I think best is win6.1 and sense 2.5 for HD.
For me at the moment BlackNew V by Kenia is the best: stable and fast.
I would like test a rom with win 6.1 and maxsense...

DonSalary Clean ROM: 2.1/2.5 sense, 50-60% use on startup, completely CLEAN.
I just use these 2 because they have Sense and they are smooth, but completely 100% complete ROMs are undoubtedly the fastest and most stable ROMs out there.

Here you find the best Rom
My Reviews
i've been flashing my htc diamond a lot these days with different ROMS...
the best ones?.... it depends on what u need i.e:
-Energy ROM (WM 6.5 with sense 2.1)
Pros: I like this ROM a lot, its fast, its "eye candy" (looks good) and it's really stable, i never had a ROM problem with it.
Cons: It takes a lot of RAM to run it, so youll need a ram cleaner or soft reset if u want to run programs like GPS or even some heavy games... thats really bad for me cause i use GPS a lot... so, discarted
-Gen.Y D2X (WM 6.1 sense 2.5)
Pros: WM 6.1 makes it really lite, u dont need WM 6.5 for anything because the manila is everywhere (data settings, personalization, programs.. everything is covered) it is stable and really fast.
Cons: im maybe too demanding but i want a nice locker for my device ("WM 6.5 slider" or "manila locker") but im starting to think that it is too much to ask in this WM 6.1 ROM because i just havent found a good one (manila locker gets crazy if the device is in landscape mode and WM 6.1 cant handle any of the CHT(Co0kie home tab) locks) Co0kie home tab is a cab that lets you personalize your home tab, it is really cool but when it comes to locking the device it just lacks the possibility.
-Don salari: i used this one like for 3 minutes... it is really lite, it is stable... but that was achieved by taking a lot of things out and that is really annoying for example: youtube quick link is there but u cant use it.. and there are some other things like that...
-Back to basics: same as don salari... it IS BASIC
so.......
here i am, looking for another ROM, next one im going to try is Energy ROM with titanium and im going to install SPB mobile shell 3.5...
Mod. edit: not dev related, moved to general

Fast rom

I dont care about eye candy i just want it to be fast and functional but so far even leos newest rom is kinda slow, can anyone recommend a rom with manila thats fast?
Dutty R14 Htcpedia Forum Manila 2.1 ROM is a fast and otherwise good for daily use. Manila also Leo5 Dutty 2.5 ROM I recommend.
If you want really fast WinMo 6.1 rom, you can try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=537948
each of rom in this forum may want to try they all have their good features
How about reading one of the sticky topics about benchmarks?!?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=516190
Benchmarks dont mean **** to me, ive tried lots of roms and benchmarks have nothing to do with the speed that i feel and need. Just because a rom copys a 10mb file faster than a different one doesnt mean its faster in other areas too.
Thank you zeus for your reply ill try some of them.

the only way to satisfy your wish, is for you to try out the cooked ROMs around. it will help if you specify how you define "fast" is in a ROM. do a list of the things you find good and bad in each ROM, and hopefully you can make a conclusion. mind you there are loads to try
here is my findings being a flashaholic for the last 6months.
Win 6.1 based - generally faster particularly if paired with older Manila versions
Win 6.5 based - usually paired with the latest Manila version, many are fast but overall not as fast as older Win 6.1 based ROMS

Which of the ROMs is the fastest (maybe old good WM6.1)?

I think I'm a bit tired of flashing and want a stable environment to browse, read emails, chat etc.
What is the best choice? Stock ROM or... Dutty's v4.3 WM6.1 Manilla 2.1 ???
I think that cooked ROMs are a bit bettter than stock. So what should I use instead of the stock but not WM6.5 (coz I think that WM6.5 is really slower and less stable than 6.1).

definitely Kwbr 15Nov Vanilla series Rhodium port. fastest, most stable, closest to stock, with Htc Sense.
So.. I have two recommendations:
Topix: which is fully tweaked and with lots of applications.
Vanilla: not tweaked at all with no additional applications.
Topix claims to be very fast. But in my understanding - Vanilla should be faster as it's not loaded with 3rd party applications.
Anyway.. seems that I need to try both. And I don't know from which to start
I like more the Vanilla version if it's really faster.
out of the 2, topix 3.1.2 is wm6.1 so is faster than vanilla which is 6.5. this is also evident if u look at the bench scores
there's also a beta topix based on wm6.5.however I haven't tried it so can't comment

Don't forget Laurentius26 and PhamQuang ROMS... If u wanna use 6.1 then L26 v3.5 is the best as u can see in the benchmarking list and my opinion as a user. But if u wanna use 6.5 then I can say PhamQuang's v74 is not the fastest but the best since performance is a combination of stability, speed and compatibility... That's my own opinion after flashing dozens of ROMs to my Blackstone (xannytech, topix, energy, etc etc...) But in general Dutty's, Miri's, Phamquang's and Laurentius' roms are clean, stable and fast.Onkolog's Roms are extremeley clean and problem-free but slow.
I have to suggest Dutty's Holy Grail's, they are amazing! The one with Manila 2.5 is really fast, responsive and stable so imagine the one with 2.1! I always end up going back to Dutty, his roms are so solid! They're the only roms i'm able to stay with!
I think Dutty's Holy Grail R0 is the best balance between speed and stability. I have used PhamQuang, LIA, EnergyROM, and loads of others, but I keep coming back to Dutty. WM6.5 and M2.5 ftw!!
Now if only HTC could make their messaging app cope with large volumes of texts....

I am not certain about that one. I used Holly Grail for a couple of weeks, mostly because I was tired of flashing (I cannot believe I just said that being a flashing junkie) but I was not all that happy with it becasue it was slow and the touch response was not good.
Flash a stock rom and swipe your fingers across your screen, you'll know what I mean.
I am also looking for a rom which is quick, responsive and bug free, and believe only stock ones can truly deliver; they had ample time to iron our the bugs.
The cooks should concentrate on making a good working roms instead of spewing out new cores, builts, etc., every other day.
Stick to one core for a while and take time to iron out mistakes, develop useful cabs for that particular version, etc....
Cheers
P.S. I forgot to mention ONE BIG problem with the Holly Grail: it would hang on a gray screen, sort of not turned on nor turned off. I'd be sitting in my office for example with the phone close by, an hour later I'd get a call from my friends on a land line asking me why I turned my phone off. I'd look over and lo and behold, a gray screen. Tried to reanimate it with a power button but nothing would happen. Had to take out the battery in order to start it up again. This became especially irritating if I'd leave my phone on over night because of the alarm, it would hang on the gray screen again and I'd miss waking up on time.
This is a big, huge, problem for me, so I was really glad to abandon the so called Holly Grail....
Hi,
Thanks for answers. But I don't want WM6.5. I'm currently using Holy Grail R0 and I'm missing the responsivness of WM6.1.
I've tried only Dutty's WM6.1 ROMs (latest v4.3 with Manila 6.1 (not sense)). In this i trust. But wanted to try other WM6.1 alternatives.
i personally use topix. its faster than its competitors and has the best 6.1 web browsing i have ever seen (no idea how kwbr makes opera as smooth as it is). Older versions of topix (between v2.8 and 3) were the best imo. i found a version of 2.8.6 after a long google search and dont expect to be changing any time soon (although the shelby line of ROMs is beginning to attract my attention, but i digress).
Dutty 4.3 for SURE!!!!
The best 6.1 rom for me was the 4.3 and I'm using now the new leostone rom which gave me the same impression...(its even faster and better than the holy grail)
I was trying to find the best ROM as well. I went back to Laurentius 3.55 and I found out again how fast that ROM is. But the problem was the boring Manila. I like the colored Tab-icons and the weather on the homescreen.
So I took a look in the benchmarks and I saw that Topix 3.0.2 was the fastest, with HTC Sense 2.1. I'm using it again for 2 months now and I really love the ROM.
So if you want a fast WM6.1 ROM, with Leo style (HTC Sense 2.1), download Topix 3.0.2. And don't forget to change the wallpaper, because the weather animations slows down your device!
I tryed Dutty 4.3 but the call history bug never got fixed. Had sms problems too. Went back to Dutty 3.9 Turbo again, the best that has worked for me always.

if you want to old Man 2.1 with Win 6.1 use Topix 3.1.2 (very stable and fast but "old")
if you want Man 2.1 Sense (latest Win 6.5 update for the Rhodium) with Windows 6.5 use Vanilla Series Rhodium Port 15Nov release. (very stable and fast, and "NEW" ) see what I mean?
better get flashing then, before Fallen Spartan closes this thread.
Nothing can beat ongkolog 6.1 lite version 3 Jun, I installed with 43 applications without feeling slow. I switched off manila and use spb pocket plus as my main application. I keep going back to this ROM after using and flashing many other ROM 6.5 and 6.1 before.

6.1 or 6.5
Well i'd give a 9-10 to [2009-12-09][WWE][ROM] Touch X 10.9.1 (WM6.1/Manila 2.1.19202517) NUTS!
As it works perfectly without any issue ; no freeze and perfect for a day to day use.
& a 7.5-8 to [26 NOV 09 | SEX1 R5.07]
It is good but not all X2 stuff works as it should but smooth and sleek interface and it is a 6.5.
I've tried many other but had problems (freezing, no landscape, unstable..etc)
another 9/10 for [2009-12-09][WWE][ROM] Touch X 10.9.1 (WM6.1/Manila 2.1.19202517) NUTS!
I have a couple of minor issues with the weather tab in this ROM, but they are minor. It is a stunning piece of work. It has Sense (Manila 2.1) on WM6.1, a very good compromise of Manila features and 6.1 speed/stability.
I would also give a 8/10 for its predecessor, 10.8.1 Very fast and stable, one point less since the Manila version is not as pretty
I would give 6/10 for Itje's Touch IT 10.4 I reflashed it a few times, but it was never particularly stable for me.
(Once flashed, I customise with a lot of different apps)
It may be an unfair comment, but look at the number of pages each ROM thread has. This is a fair indication of popularity. Also, I'm pretty sure there is a similar thread to this, already.

Very good post!
I would give Touch-It BL Landscape 9/10 points if it was a bit more stable and if TomTom would work on it!

not quite:
1st videoplayback is almost as is not working
2nd the included opera does not support hardware keyboard, you must install another version on top of the already cooked one
3nd the soft keyboard has a major bug when you add a number to contact it gets stucked in numerical mode and you must edit registry to get it back.
However is a matter of tastes and how you use ur phone daily. The most stable roms are those with manila 2.1 and winmo 6.5 build 218xxx or winmo 6.1
Valkyrie is ok but suffers from SoD but some users here are making progress in ironing this out
EnergyRom is ok too, especially the one w/ manila 2.1, for 2.5 you have to install sms client / patch it and also you'll not have manila docs working
A very good rom if you dont care for manila is X2 ported rom from jerpelea
And many other, those 4 I speak of ive tested myself in the last month and thats why I spoke of them
EnergyROM "Leo" 21885 Sense 2.5
10/10 - Best rom ever! Increased my battery time and signal enormous. Eye candy, fast, stable and landscape works
The other ones i've tried are already mentioned.

I'm using valkyrie v5.5.23517 with HTC Sense running since it was uploaded and I haven't had the SoD once. I use my phone for TomTom, Video Calling, Calling, Browsing the net, Texting with the Windows Mobile Client. But I have turned off the Twitter, Email and Documents Tabs off in HTC Sense. Using this to get all Background 4 all tabs with landscape has made it the best Manila Rom I have used on the X1.
I've tried the different versions EnergyRoms I could never get passed the splash screen that's probably my fault.
With Touch-IT BL Landscape - Build 21889 I can't live without the hardware keyboard in Opera.
hmm for me - all the roms posted here are great and the most stable roms around tends to change every now and then. newer roms from the same chef may not be the most stable or greatest as all chefs are experimenting as well.
currently these are my fav:
1. gtrab sex1 r5.07. not so eye candy but very usable & stable. minimal crashes. (nice to have xperia dialer, i miss wm6.5.3)
2. christian 3.7 & 4.0 clean (had problem with 3.8 & 3.9 but so far 4.0 working great ..... nice big finger friendly menu and best of all xperia dialer. miss htc task manager though)
3. energy rom with manila 2.1 (nice eye candy and stable)
Have to go with Touh-X 10.9.1 myself. I've tried a few different roms, found WM6.5 to be inherently unstable on my Xperia, And Mr. Rusch's implementation of Manilla 2.1 is amazing. The Rom runs at lightspeed, have not had a single crash. My only complaint about it is that I've lost the seemless integration of manila's in-built SMS util. If I wish to use it, I need to go through contacts -> open contact, slide to messages.

What do you call 'best'?!
I've been a fan of the EnergyROM "Leo" series for a while (if you want Manila.) They seemed to be reliable and stuffed full of eye candy.
Not NRGZ28's fault but the Leo Manila has been pretty buggy for ages and I got fed up with it and went back to the PURE WM6.5 that was released on 26 Nov 2009. Its been faultless and I'd recommend it if you simply want WinMo 6.5 on your X1. I've used it since its release date without any problems.
Over Xmas I got caught up in the X2 excitement and have installed jerpelea's 'test' ROMs. His 007 is the first 'FINAL' build I can live with (the earlier ones kept hanging on me) but its full of X2 eye candy and functionality and I'm finding it runs better over time - weird but true.
Depends what you mean by 'best' I suppose, TF3D ROMs have the HTC look and feel but are generally a bit buggy, a clean WM6.5 has the new WinMo look and feel and should be more reliable, and an X2 ROM is likely to be buggy but have the new Xperia eye candy!
EDIT: Whatever ROM you flash, make sure you hard-reset afterwards to give it a fighting chance of performing well! Personally I tend to hard-reset a couple of times as I've had some issues when only doing it the once with some custom ROMs.

The best ROM is the one you like and feel confortable with.
I've long been a fan of Manilla, be it 2, 2.1 or 2.5 Leo/Sense.
As far as stability and battery life is concerned I found the older versions of Energy (september) and the 3.8 versions of valkyrie to be more to my liking; the current line-up from both cooks are still fine though.
Unfortunately, most of the "improvements" come not with tweaks to stabilize the existing ROM, but generaly consist of updates, upgrades and new applications = new bugs/issues;
I am by no means disrespectfull, on the contrary, I am gratefull for the immense contribution of these cooks to the community.
After some dissapointing isuues with 3 Leo versions (ijte, valkyrie and energy) I am very happy with jerpelea's X2 007 (not that it is bug free but I find it fast and usable).
Good luck hunting out there and support the chefs!

+ 1 here too!!!!
Currently for me it is the best 2.5 with landscape support. All works fine and no SOD since a couple of tweeks including radio update 1.16. 25.48.
Cheers
For 100% bug free, fast and stable you need to be looking at older ROM's i.e. WM 6.1 and you also need to define whether you want Manila or just WM. There are so many different variations you cannot just say 'which is best'. It always depends on what you as the user want.
I have tried many diferent ROM's, mainly Agent 47, NRG and Itje but have always migrated back to Agents ones as I find they suit me better but I like the cutting edge stuff, Manila 2.5 is my favourite UI so I am definately into Valkyrie Leo 23517.
The only way is to try a few and see which one you like but be warned you could turn into a flashaholic!

why no more 6.1 ROMs anymore

I have tested far too many 6.5 roms i dont understand the complete halt of the development of 6.1 ROMS. there seems to be a lot of confusion going on here:
-ALL 6.5.x roms run noticeably slower and jerkier than 6.1 roms.
-some have decent stability but the majority suffer from SOD bug. generally speaking 6.1 cooked ROMs are just more stable.
-ALL have worse battery life than 6.1 roms
-TF3D simply runs smoother on 6.1 roms (~30frames Per Second VS. ~15-20 FPS)
before flaming me go ahead and try flashing ROMs like touchX, PcTech4U, you'd halve to be blind not to notice that todays newer better-looking 6.5.5 ROMs are actully a clear step below what we used to have with 6.1 ROMs last year
bottom line: if you care about battery, speed and stability, forget about 6.5. it feels a lot like a proof of concept on our Xperia

* i can't say ALL 6.5 is "jerker" .. user interface was enhanced .. "finger" friendly (which is important for a touchscreen unit)
* i didn't also experienced SOD with all the cooked roms that i've tried in 6.5 (following what is indicated in every post by the chef or the developer helps alot) and maybe.. just maybe another factor is the 3rd party apps installed by the user
* yes some cooked roms are hungry for battery ](but not for what i use now) and i think it also depends on the user.. if uses it heavily or moderate..
* TF3D is good! and i agree with that and i will not be the villain in your post but.. users of this unit will find the exact rom or cook the exact rom for them.. that will fit to their everyday use.. not because "it is fast and more stable".. instead of asking them.. be thankful that some, i mean alot of people now do such things to improve this "king of the hill" xperia one and if for you alone, you are already contented of the roms that you've mentioned.. instead of making this post or calling 6.5 a "jerker" (i can't help but laugh) .. help others who is looking for 6.1 cooked roms.. suggest and spread the news..
peaceout!

touch x is there... (will be updated probably this week)
People still have interest... but definitely..6.5 & 6.5.x has taken its toll
i would say i want a newer device, and so newer operating system ...something you can't do in case of girlfriend

Yes but how many wm6.1 have manila 2.5?? Much more needed ...
In my opinion 6.1 is done.
6.5 is only marginally better.
7 had my attention until I read some post by Doministry linking me to info that multi-tasking on 7 would be an issue.
I'm headed to Android next.
X10.
6.1 is definitely faster in general case. But one important characteristic of 6.5 make me never look back on 6.1. It's provide more virtual memory (don't be confuse with available memory with Settings > memory) by opening up slot 60,61 with 6.5 nk and compatible kitchen.

I have to agree, the 6.1 just works better if you use the phone a lot on the X1.
Which rom do you use with 6.1, I have found that this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561555 is the best for me so far, but I would like to try something else until the latest update comes out...

Hello All,
I agree that we are less and less having 6.1 ROM, but let's not give a bad impression of WM 6.5.
I found WM 6.5 to be very good without manila. very quick and responsive.
Do we have other implementation of WM6.1 with Manila 2.5, apart from evilash_leo ? please direct me.
i tried searching, didnt come across ...
I have been using the VERY stable and smooth Touch X 10.9.1 (WM6.1/Manila 2.1.19202517) NUTS for some 3-4 months lately (WM 6.1 w/M2.1), after having been trying WM6.5 with manila 2.1/2.5
i personally felt WM6.1 is definitely smoother, coz i dont like lags when going thru contacts, dialpad, or sms keyboard-response.
I would nonetheless want the Manila 2.5, though, due to the tighter integration with social networking.
Nice thread. but let's not take things personal and just discuss
Regards,
Nitish/.
as said earlier.. WinMo 6.5 alone is fast.
WinMo 6.5 with Manila 2.1/2.5 make is a bit slower on Xperia Hardware. (u all might have noticed it)
WinMo 6.1 with Manila 2.1/2.5 is having good speed in Xperia hardware. (eg. TouchX 10.9.1 or latest Evilash Leo Manila 2.5)
If you want WM6.5 with speed (and all manila stuff) why not change to HD2.
In Xperia - WM6.1 with/without manila rocks
Just my experience. Thanks!
PEACE

thanks i missed that one ... gonna dl and try ..
unfortunately i have to agree with most of the people here. 6.5 is <<< 6.1 on the Xperia.
I would really love to see some of the big chefs here like agent, NRG, itje...etc cook a 6.1 ROM. i think they will be pleasantly surprised with how much faster and smoother their rom will be.
i would recomend that everyone (especially cookers)gives evilash rom (6.1 w\ manilla 2.5) a try
