Hello again, I am curently owner of the QTEK 9000 wich is a VGA device.
I am thinking about buying a KAISER but I am afraid of going back to QVGA ... I don't want to be disapointed !
Does someone did that ? I mean going from a VGA device to a QVGA one ?
How do you deal with it ?
Thanks a lot !
You will be not disappointed.
I still have the QTEK 9000 but never use this device as phone.
only application where i miss the VGA is the RDP
I did also use the G900 for view days. (800x480)
RDP was great..other application did not use the wide screen.
G900 was just to slow for daily usage
I was happy of VGA resolution for excel sheets using, I do it a lot. It is cool to be able to display a wide sheet.
Also for internet browsing ... I think I will miss VGA for that.

I dont like the QVGA. The font is very blurry. Everything is not clear. Even the games do not function well. Like SPB AirIslands lags. I suggest you stick to HTC Universal and wait till HTC Omni hits.
Or else I suggest the O2 XDA Flame. Which is much much better. ^^
Yes, O2 XDA Flame seems to be a great pocket pc ! Everything I need, except one very important thing for me : the hardware keyboard !!! The same device with a hardware keyboard and the same size as the Kaiser, I buy it what ever its price !
I really don't miss going back, the TyTn screen is pretty good, I still keep my HP 4" VGA hx4700 PPC at home for WiFi Slingboxing. The smaller Kaiser screen is just fine for me, given all the features that the phone has.
No question, I'd buy a TyTn III tomorrow IF it had a good VGA Transreflective display. Don't think any mobile device should be sold without a transreflective display.

There is actually an Infrared Keyboard that O2 makes. Its called the O2 XM-02. It is sold as an accessory pack. Many retailers in Australia sell it. O2 Infrared Keyboard. The same size as the Kaiser. Its a QWERTY keyboard. Very sleek.

i have jasjar, tytn and now touch.
after some time of using tytn and touch, i still prefer jasjar so much. that's why i can't dspose it.
planning to buy kaiser (tytn ii) also but it's very hard to throw away jasjar, so that's keeping me away from getting kaiser. at least for now.
might still get the kaiser and retain the universal.

Thanks but I'm not a fan of external keyboard : one more thing to charge (one more power supply to bring with you, plus it increases the size of your pocketpc).
I have been in a shop today to see the TYTN II (in France), all sold, even the demo one ! So I couldn't see it ... Frustrating !
About the VGA affair, in fact I saw that the screen is the same size as the HTC 3600, wich is pretty small. So I think that VGA on a 2.8 inches screen would be pretty unusable with small fonts. So to keep this PDA at a small size, maybe it's better to keep QVGA wich is less cpu power consuming.
Hard to make a choice !
I can give you some reasons why going back to QVGA isnt bad.
first of all, since it's a lower resolution, it takes less CPU power, and less battery power. that means things will be faster, such as games. (i mean think about it, when you play a game on a computer and lower the resolution, it gets faster).
second, there are 2 programs out there that allow you to change the resolution of a QVGA screen using zooming, you can zoom to a certain extentent without it looking bad, or you can change the resolution and just navigate around the screen:
Nydot virtual display: http://www.nyditot.com/Home.asp
DotPocket: http://www.dotpocket.com/
you can use these apps for internet browsing
I think gaming is better using QVGA, since a 2.8" is already a pretty good size.
These softwares sound very interesting ... !!! it seems they can apply a high resolution where all fit on the screen (up to 800x600) ??? How can they do that ? Did you try it ? Does it really look like a real 640 x 480 for exemple ? I have read some reviews, they say that small fonts are unreadable (wich seems normal to me, the number of pixels in the screen stay the same 320x240, there is nothing magic !), we need a soft reset each time we want to change the resolution, and it is CPU power consuming ...
In that case, wich one is the less CPU power consuming : the software or the real VGA hardware ???
So I am only partially conviced ...
Dont' miss VGA at all!!!
I'm coming from the ETEN X500+ which is a VGA device.
I simply LOVED the Today Screen on the X500+ for its crispness and brightness. The icons looked great too. It was simply beautiful...BUT THAT WAS IT!!
The price I paid for having VGA on that device was RAM ALWAYS being LOW. With only a handful of apps loaded in memory, RAM would drop to 5MB!! After a RESET, RAM was only 20MB free!! Out the box, RAM was only 40MB available with 25MB free (it was supposed to be a 64MB RAM device)!! ETEN said it was due to the overhead of the VGA. I couldn't run Call of Duty since it requires at least 11-16MB of RAM free.
I use EXCEL spreadsheets, PDF and IE a lot. But even with the ability to jump to high rez in these apps, the text was way too small to read on the screen for long periods of time.
Mapopolis and Google Maps did look and work GREAT in high rez too; but I'll take the lower rez devices any day at this point.
These just weren't selling points for me to be convinced that WM6 devices is ready for VGA. IMO, you'll need screens the size of most UMPCs to really enjoy it.

up to 5000x5000 actually lol, any size you want. but your right, the more you increase teh resolution the harder it will be to read. there is no point for VGA if it doesnt have the big enough sized screen. the athena screen shows true VGA, but anything smaller would look too small and hard to read. i have not tried myself, i dont have a pocket pc, only a smartphone. on the website it says to read the directions carefully or you may have to hard reset your phone
Finally I bought a htc prophet (Qtek S200) for only 50€ ... As the screen is the same as the Kaiser, I'll see if I can deal with it.
Then I'll sell it, the only way to be sure that the Kaiser won't disapoint me !
qoing from vga (universal) to tytn II too.
i am little bit worry about screen, but as i had mda compact before - screen was ok and maybe little bit better then vga in some cases. now i am open to change big screen for more powerful device, even with qvga
looking forward for it!
I've just moved over from the Universal to the Kaiser, and yes in some ways I miss the VGA (RDP/Opera), but there the only misses, I can make do with Opera and RDP on the QVGA.... I've just kept the Universal and pop my sim in it when I know I'm going to need the VGA...
Love the Kaiser though, much easier on the pocket.....
I switched from a combo of V3XX RAZR with my Palm TX for the TyTN2 to have 3G and PIM, Multimedia, etc. all in one device. The Palm had a Half VGA (HVGA ?) res of 480x360 and I'm still getting used to less screen real estate.
It's most noticeable for me in web browsing and excel docs as mentioned above, but other than that I'm not missing much else.
So here is my feeling of going back to a QVGA device :
in fact, I am not very disapointed. The fact that the screen is only a 2.8 inches model (compared to the 3.7 inches for the Universal) makes the pixels smaller so it still does look good. But reading excel files with small textes becomes too difficult. So I will definitly have to scroll more reading the files.
But this is not a big deal, compared to the fact that the S200 is so small that I can really use it as a phone, and I don't feel it in my pocket !
Even using it as a GPS was good.
So I think I will finally buy a Kaiser when the prices will drop a little.
I'm having the same issue....hard to let go of my Universal, but I am just tired of the size of it, and having to lug it around. Thinking to make the change to the TyTnII

The Universal size is my problem too ... I am just using the prophet for only 3 days, but I love it cause I can bring it really everywhere with me, it is in my pocket all day long and I don't feel it. Also it is so small that I can really use it as a phone, so my original phone stays home ! I am sure now that I have to sell my Universal, the prophet/kaiser size is really what I need, even if I loose VGA (since I am using the prophet, I really don't miss VGA !).
My father's looking to buy an HDTV and I have no clue to help him so we both don't really know what to buy.
We have a 0-1400$ budget (Canadian dollar) for a 42" display. (0 would be an acceptable price)
Here are my question:
-I'll occasionnaly play Xbox 360 on it (not much tho, I got my 15" for that )
-We don't have any HD stuff right now
-He wishes to plug his laptop on it
-What else do we need to watch for?
Well you need to think about if you want plasma or LCD. I just bought a 47 inch LCD 1080p HDTV and love it.
Since you dont have any HD products except the xbox 360 you should look for something that does 720p which also will be in your budget. I would go with LCD and look for a 5 ms refresh rate or lower. I got a LG, it stood out in the store so much and I love it!
He wants 1080p, 42 inches and quality.
I tried explaining him about 720p, but he wants 1080p. I guess the only thing we really need is quality and something to plug his computer on it (either laptop just for fun or desktop as a media station).
If you are going to use it as a PC monitor, then LCD is the only choice to consider. I was shopping for a new monitor to augment my PC's dinky 17" at Fry's, and some how I ended up with this:

It is a 40" 720p on sale for $999. I was told that 1080p is great, but there isn't enough 1080 content available to justify it. Also remember this, up close flat screen TVs look like crap. The bigger you go, the farther back you need to be from it to view it.
lcd vs. plasma
plasma have burn in which is bad if it happens there is nothing one can do
plasma give a imho better image colour and contrast
but also use alot more power then lcd
personaly i'm contemplating getting this one

When I was at Best Buy looking at HDTV's for about 2 hours I would say LCD's looks MUCH better then plasmas especially with high action programs.
OP, if you want a true 1080p TV you better bump up your weak budget if you want a decent TV
Don't forget about DLP.
I know there are a lot of people who say no, but if you truly compare and shop around it gives you the most bang for the buck and you can hook up you computer, xbox and laptop to it. I have a Samsung and it gives a great picture running 1080i and it is 1080p capable.
Tigerdirect.com has some great prices on new HDTV's. I have had a very positive experience working with them. Best Buy and Circuit City will sell you the world when you are there and then they don't honor 3/4 of what they sold you (in terms of price plans and warrrantees). In most cases, the manufacturers(sp?) warranty will cover what you need it to and will even send someone out to work on the tv locally.
That said, I would include DLP in your search because it definitely fits your price range. DLP are only like 12-16 inches thick in their largest spot. If you're buying a big screen, its definitely going to be a prominant piece of furniture in the room so whats a foot off the wall vs. 3 inches....
I sell these things for a living so I think I may be of some help to you.
From the things that you are wanting to do, I think DLP would be the best choice for you.
They make excellent computer monitors. I have a PC hooked up to mine at home and it looks fantastic.
The response time is extremely fast. Much better than what LCD can offer. This will help alot when watching sports, racing or playing video games. Video games on LCD TV's often look blurry when there is a lot of action going on-screen. The only downfall to DLP is that it has a bulb that you must replace every 3 or 4 years. The bulbs pricing will range anywhere from 3-400 dollars depending on the set. Beware of the new Samsung DLP's. They have a bowing problem that I have seen with almost every one I have sold. Because of that, I have switched to Mitsubishi and they are performing really well.
If you must go flat panel, you are pretty much stuck with LCD. If you use a plasma, he could suffer burn in with a static image from his laptop. LCD's have a very long lifespan, but have unnatural colors and lower contrast than DLP's and Plasmas. They are also the slowest of all of the technologies. If you do go LCD, beware of the cheapies. They may look great in the store, but they are a lower quality panel, and will not last as long. Many people who have bought Vizios are finding out now that very thing. Look at Toshiba, Samsung or Panasonic.
PM me if you have any questions.

LCD's are overly bright. They look the best on a showroom floor because of the bright, vivid colors.
When I look for a tv, I look for the one with the most true to life picture.
In ranking pictures of TV's as far as realism goes, the best is plasma, followed by DLP, then LCD.

I got that with the black bezel and it's beautiful. Very good picture. 1080i and 720p, though, no 1080p.
Back in March I purchased a Sony Bravia V-Series KDL-46V2500 46inch LCD TV and never looked back. I found his 26inch little brother for my bedroom.
xbox 360, DVD Movies HDTV all look brilliant on both of them. I've never experienced any blur effect with our xbox and there is a lot happeneing in Halo 3.

that sucks
With my 47 inch 1080p LCD I am experiencing a little lag, not blur. Its pretty annoying when your trying to play because when the controls are of 4-5 ms it does change how you play. No fun right now
What do you have your xbox set to output the HD at?
I've used both 480 & 720, saw no real diff so I left it at 480 everythings blazing fast.
I think the blur problem is the xbox not the LCD TVs.

I have the elite, not sure it was worth the price diff though.
Try stepping the HD output down to 480 and see if you still have the lag issue.

Hi guys.
What is the difference betwean FULL HD and HDready?
Best HDTV
I have Olevia. Was middle priced but runs like the pro's.
Typically HD ready means that the TV doesn't include an off-air HD tuner inside. You would need a seperate tuner to receive local HD channels. Full HD means that the TV supports 1080p.
Hello,
I wrote many posts about my disapointment on the Kaiser performances, but this one will surely be the last one, I'm gonna sell my Kaiser.
At first, I thought I had to just get used to it, but after about 20 days of use, I definitly just CANNOT get use to it !
It may be a good device for phone, email, GPS, all kind of serious work; but about the entertainment, it is a bad device from my point of view :
- it can't play VGA videos with a good frame rate : we all know the driver "not existing" problem. But when you pay the high price for this device, you also pay for the Qualcomm processor, wich in the case of the Kaiser does not give you all it should !!!
Also I noticed that displaying streaming videos from the web was slower than on my old HTC Universal (wich is one of the slower HTC machine about displaying videos because it is a VGA device with no hardware accelerator).
- games and emulators run slower than on my HTC Prophet device (wich is overclocked at 240 Mhz where my Kaiser runs at 380 Mhz !) : it's for real, I just tested again many games and emulators and the frame rate is better on the HTC Prophet.
- the pad isn't good for gaming (because of its shape) : the horizontal size of it is too big compared to the vertical size. So when you play fast action games, you need to move your finger from one side of the D-pad to the other side (on the horizontal side), you can't leave your finger on the D-pad. So you loose time when using the D-pad, I don't know if what I say is clear enough ... Also, in fast action games, when pressing the left side of the D-pad, if I press it too firmly, I can feel the screen moving a little bit, just like if I wanted to open the hardware keyboard.
The buttons around the pad are too small. Many times, when playing, I press two buttons at the same time instead of just one.
From my point of view, it is the worst Pocket PC I had to play games (I had a Casio EM505, Ipaq 1930, Dell Axim X50v, HTC Prophet ...).
To try to improve the performances, I tried many tweaks given by you guys on this forum (thanks for that), it worked for some things but only partially, unfortunatly not enough to make me think that my Kaiser has a decent speed.
I know the Kaiser is not a gaming machine, but it is hard to accept these performances problems when you know that most of the other HTC machines, with lower prices, run faster !!! It is really a shame that HTC didn't make any driver to just use the power of the Qualcomm processor, but they let us pay for it !!!
Along with these performances problems, I'm also disapointed about the overall finish quality of this device :
- the d-pad looseness : I hate to feel the buttons and the pad moving under my fingers.
- it's made of plastic, compared to my Prophet wich is made of metal, I feel the need to protect my Kaiser with a good cover, wich increase the size it takes in my pocket (where my Prophet just had no protection).
- the power on button is not in a good position : too close from the screen and not enough sticking, so many times I push the screen while pressing it, and I also need to always look at my Kaiser and search for the button to power it on or off. Someone in this forum gave a solution for that, where we put 3D paint on the button, but seriously, doing that on a device of this price, it's a shame again !
- the weight : the Kaiser is about twice heavier than my Prophet (well, it is my feeling). But it is hard to blame HTC on this because the Kaiser has so many things inside, could they do better ? I'm not sure.
- the micro-sd door make me feel like it could break very easily.
- the keyboard : all keys does not give the same feeling when pressing them, so I always have to look at the screen while typing to be sure the key I pressed is really pressed or is not pressed twice. I thought I could get use to it, but after 20 days of use, I just say "no !". I tried the keyboard of the TYTN (the old one, the TYTN 1) of one of my friend, and it is really better ! Also the space bar gives two clicks when you press it (strange feeling) where the TYTN space bar gives only one (wich is better).
- the camera : I took a few pictures, and as on many pocketpc/phone, from my point of view the quality just make me think it's a gadget again, but about that I don't really care because I just don't need it (but again, I paid for it).
Still there ? Did you read all I wrote ? How brave you are !
The only good part I like on the Kaiser is the GPS, it's working very well.
It may also be good as a phone, but I didn't use it yet so let's say it's good (everyone say so).
So I took the decision to sell it, and maybe wait for the "TYTN III"
But for the next one, I guess I'll wait more before buying it for other people to give a lot more opinions. Now I also have a 6GB micro-sd to sell (one week old !), I will lose money but that will make me feel happier !
How much do you want for thsi pile of trash?

Sure I have and I also link to this really informative thread from the "official" threads.
CARD
how much for the card!
I posted something similar yesterday and I have moved it here:
I went from the i-mate JASJAM (TyTN) to the TyTN II, and below are part of something I posted on another site:
New annoyances with TyTN II, issues I didn't have with the JASJAM:
1. Playing MP4 videos in PMP10; sound and video out of sync.
2. Occasional sluggishness (CPU not enough?).
3. Screen sometimes doesn't react to tapping if screen tapping sounds are enabled or if using other apps which gives sound feedback, like Bubble Breaker.
4. Poor quality Bluetooth audio for handsfree phone calls, similar to what you get with two tin cans and a string.
5. If you're right-handed and slide out the keyboard, then need to use the stylus, you have to perform some minor acrobatics to get it out from the left side. Be careful not to drop the phone!!!
6. A GPS device with a transmissive screen? HTC hopes that everyone will be using the GPS indoors? JASJAM's screen was transflective but probably because of the lack of GPS
7. Night mode in the camera can not be switched on or off manually. The camera will decide when night mode is required, and this is the case even when strong fluorescent light is available, making it impossible to use the camera hand-held indoors.
8. The camera takes all photos in portrait mode. You have to hack the registry to make it switch to landscape mode.
Of the above points, I hope the first four could be solved if HTC would ever release ROM updates.
And HTC: WTF is "USB 2.0 Full Speed"??!?! You're trying to deceive customers? Full speed (12Mbps) is USB 1.1!!! USB 2.0 gives High Speed, which is 480Mbps, which of course the TyTN II doesn't support.
To add something positive about the TyTN II:
- Keyboard is much nicer. It gives more feeling of quality than the cheap metal dome calculator keys the JASJAM had. The TyTN II's keyboard is probably the same, but they have managed to improve the "feel".
- A2DP! Using my SE DS970 headset, sound quality is very good. Not with PMP10 though. I'm using PocketMusic which gives something similar to SE's MegaBass.
- I love the case! Mocha leather feel and that ultra-soft velcro flap gives an almost naughty feeling to it

- The 3MP camera is very good, although the 2MP in the JASJAM was also very good (with the right settings) and the increase in megapixels doesn't give the corresponding increase in photo quality. TyTN II photos are just a little better.
I could perhaps recommend the TyTN II to new users. But I would definitely not recommend upgrading from TyTN (JASJAM). Better buy a Bluetooth GPS, if this functionality is what you miss on the TyTN. If you need faster than 1.8 Mbps HSDPA, then choose another phone. Maybe the E90?
Dizzy: You have posted a well structured critical posting for you opinions of the kaiser and I can only say that I am sorry it does not work out for you.
I have the T-Mobile version of the TyTN II and I do not have the problems you have with the keys moving about (its the only version that's different) the d-pad is the same size top, bottom, left and right and for most part i have not had any problems with the rendering of divx movies on my device (I use pocket divx encoder to convert the films (films are 250mb)) as for games I have a few 3d based games like tiger woods and need for speed and they seem to play better on the kaiser than they did on the wizard even when that was overclocked with omapclock.
For the rest of the niggles you and others have mentioned, your right that we should not have to put up with them but there is not too much of a problem to work round them (software or firmware) so in time I'm sure we will fix a lot of the problems that HTC should have fixed but have not.
It might be worth leaving it a while and see what happens and perhaps buy a UK T-Mobile one later when other things are fixed?

For the rest of the niggles you and others have mentioned, your right that we should not have to put up with them but there is not too much of a problem to work round them (software or firmware) so in time I'm sure we will fix a lot of the problems that HTC should have fixed but have not.
It might be worth leaving it a while and see what happens and perhaps buy a UK T-Mobile one later when other things are fixed?

About the DivX file reading, yes you can read them if you encoded it with pocketdivx, you're right. Actually, you can do that with any pocketpc on the market, even with the cheapest one. But my problem is that when you look at the Qualcomm capabilities, you see that it should read VGA videos, without the need to convert them (my good old Axim X50V could do that, and it is now about 4 years old !). It would be, from my point of view, a lot more interesting if we could directly put the divx file into the Kaiser without having to convert it to some format each time. As we know, it's all the fault of HTC wich did not make the drivers to give the Qualcomm capabilities to us, but, again, we paid for it !!!!!!!
Like you said, maybe I should give more time to my Kaiser, maybe someone (of course not an HTC people) will program the drivers for us, but it's all "maybe", and if I don't want to lose much money on my Kaiser, the sooner I sell it, the better it is.
I would really like to ear someone saying "hey, a driver to use the Qualcomm capabilities will be out soon", I would then really give more time to my Kaiser, but for now the only thing we have is the petition, and I guess HTC will not listen to us. Why would they ? So many people are using it only for its professionnal use (phone/GPS/emails etc...), I think they will not listen to 2000 people (if we are !), when the device is sold to something like dozens of thousand people, and I may be far from the real count.
I would definitly prefere to keep it, but it does not fit all my needs unfortunatly.
I would like to advise future buyers of this device that it is not as perfect as we can read in the reviews. If it's for a strictly professional use, it may be OK, but for entertainment, my advise would be "buy something else !".

This is the main reason that my next phone will not be a HTC phone. The obviously poor quality of the Video in a "premium" product means that when I am "able" to upgrade my handset, it wont be HTC.
Phones like the LG Viewty and even the iPhone put this pile-of-crap to shame not obly for video and audio, but in the case of the Viewty for Camera quality.
I gave up on using the camera on my Kaiser/VarioIII within a week. The usability of the camera is poor (to juddery)

Hey, if you think Kaiser is bad, then have a look at Eten X800. Check-out their forum, and then you'll find out what's really bad.
Bottom line is Kaiser is very usable, whereas the X800 is not usable at all, isn't that the first thing that counts, even before looking at feature and function?
I will also sell Kaiser ... once I got a similiar replacement (probably Imate Ultimate 9502?).
I agree, for entertainment, Kaiser is the worst HTC product!
I for one like this better than the TYTN. For one thing, spring-loaded keyboard sold me to it. I hated how the TYTN keyboard gets loose after several uses. I must've replaced it 3-4 times under warranty. All of them turned out the same and when i finally dropped the phone due to mishandling caused by the looseness of the keyboard, that was it.... My only main gripe is the power button that i wished they somewhat elevated and what everyone is complaining about and that is the video driver support. But i'll give it time since it just came out less than a month or 2 ago. Then the GPS, 3mp camera are just little extras that made me want it some more.
Thanks for this initial post...
I've come to the same conclusions WITHOUT even buying the kaiser which was supposed to become my first smartphone.
In a nutshell: I'm not buying anything Qualcomm...I'd rather wait for a google phone and I think I'd feel more comfortable if it had an nvidia goforce chip in it.
See you in Q3 2008 for these new htc phones and I guess I'll just get shoes for christmas

Agreed. But Kaiser has so more untaped potential it's really frustrating HTC/Qualcomm gimped their hardware support.
It's also very shortsighted as HTC will be using the qualcomm platform for many products to come, and the kaiser "botch", when it will reach enough exposure, will certainly dent their sales.

it plays games?

I'm sorry but I don't care about the fact that some other devices are worst. This does not make me like more my own device. The Kaiser problems are still there.
The main gripe with the Kaiser is speed. I hope that some day soon a clever bunny writes an Omap type app that'll overclock the Qualcomm. This, I'm sure, will make the device very usable.
If only I was the clever bunny.
sounds like you want a PSP rather than a phone

Thanks for excellenz app!
Thanks for the best youtube app ever!
Better than the android youtube even, imho.
Yea this is hands down the best YouTube app I have found for WP7 and I've tried most if not all of them. So awesome, the fact that it was updated even further is just sweet. I didn't think it could get any better.
If the developer reads these... Thanks guys or girls... keep up the awesome work! Worth the small amount of money for sure.
Powerful youtube app for WP7. Thanks very much!
Recently, I found a free downloader for youtube from enolsoft, It also can download youtube HD videos but for pc.
Great program, definitely
I would be happy if you could add these features:
- text box remember the last search entered,
- "Best rated videos" category.
Thank you very much
You know what definitely makes SuperTube far superior than LazyTube or YouTube by Lazyworms?....
With SuperTube I can watch ALL YouTube videos.
Lazytube is silly and only go by the results from m.youtube.com.
Lazytube only shows videos allowed for mobile viewing !!!
This is ridiculous. You miss many videos.
This is why I finally give up with lame LazyTube and prefere SuperTube.
Thanks again for your innovative and COMPLETE product
In the 1.5 version, the performance of the video players has been enhanced. If you can connect the 3G network, you could check the playing quality of 720P videos by 3G.

Great. I am looking forward to trying it.
Will you add a "Best rated" section soon?
Thank you.
Thank you for the comment. I have noted your suggestion. If you have any good ideas for SuperTube, please send the email to [email protected].
I'm not able to update. I even tried uninstalling my 1.4 version and reinstalling from marketplace. I have a Samsung Focus, on AT$T, 7390. Is it still available? Did it get pulled for some reason?

I have the same problem. According to the Marketplace description, 1.5 is available, but my copy is still 1.4, and no update shows up for it. What gives?
looks like the developer forgot to change the version number from 1.4 to 1.5. It shows 1.4 but it is actually 1.5. you can check whether the buffering indicator is there or not. 1.4 doesnt have buffering indicator.... 1.5 has it

I am willing to understand their position, nonetheless:
- This is not "illegal" stricto sensu. YouTube rules are not very clear regarding this situation and we could also agree that they do not make sense.
Indeed, in my opinion it is mainly a question of format. I suppose some videos are not supported in theory by mobile phones. But can smartphones be considered as phones? They are more similar to real computers. The proof is that SuperTube can read all these videos.
- Anyway, in the worst case, all that could happen is YouTube will ask the developer to remove this feature. Nothing else.
- Lastly, the LazyWorm developers have 2 applications: LazyTube and YouTube by LazyWorm. So at least they shall include all videos format in their LazyTube app, whereas the other one, YouTube, will remain into the strict scope of YouTube policies.
LazyTube would be more complete and more offensive.
I think it would make sense. LazyTube is a great app, but its developers are unreasonably cautious. Definitely.
It's good to follow the rules, but not unreasonably.
And it's a lawyer speaking here.
OK, fair enough. But here is a sample of the error you get from the google API for one of these videos, and the reason that I also decided not to support them:
Dieses Video enthält Content von Sony ATV Publishing. Es darf auf bestimmten Websites nicht wiedergegeben werden.
Translated: This video contains content from Sony ATV Publishing. It is not allowed to be played back on certain websites.
Now, as a lawyer , you should know that it will be impossible to know that you are 100% in the clear when you play back one of these videos. If you can read the error, then you can check with Sony if it's OK - but how can you be sure it's Sony, and which videos?? impossible to be 100% from an apps point of view.
Now, don't get me wrong, nothing against SuperTube (although it still amazes me that it's allowed on the market looking at other apps that have been banned). But to complain about an app because the developer is not willing to risk breaking a copyright or similar isn't really fair.
Like I said, how can an app know if the content is allowed? maybe it's an age restriction, maybe it's prohibited in that country... who's liable, the user watching the video, or the developer that hacked around an error to allow the video to be watched?
Just food for thought, nothing to be taken too seriously please I just had exactly the same dilema when added YouTube support to feed me. In the end, if I get a 150 error (unauthorized) I just redirect to the mobile site - but hey, it's an rss reader, not a YouTube app
Cheers,
Calum
EDIT: I think we should drop this subject now, not really fair on the SuperTube guys filling their thread with this. I completely understand if a mod wants to delete the last three posts.

Having spent way too many hours trying to perfect my own DIY HMD, I thought I'd found the solution: I could just buy a Note 4, buy a Gear, and be done with it ( at least until the Rift is released).
Got my Gear today, and ... I can't get over how poor the image quality is. It's not the Note 4 screen, which is fine, it's the lenses on the Gear. When I look at a screen capture on my HMD (using the Note 4 as a screen), and then look at it on the Gear, the same image seems drastically different: zoomed in, with pixels the size of baseballs drowning out all sense of immersion. I tried a 1080p video on the Oculus Theater ... it was so pixelated it reminded me of watching videos on my old psp ...
In every other respect the Gear beats my DIY HMD hands down, but in this one--I would argue very important area--it absolutely does not.
Am I the only one who had this experience?
I agree with you that the image quality is still not good enough to replace mediums like a TV or monitor. This is for sure one reason why it will not find mass adoption right now. You must understand that this are really early days of consumer VR now and until today there is no "real" consumer ready HMD on the market.
ad. Gear VR lenses:
They really could have used better optics but then the price would be not "consumer friendly" then - also the DK2 lenses are crap in my opinion but it seems the market for good vr optics also just have been awaken.
I remember my first VR experience was with a homemade cardboard-design HMD using good lenses from high grade binoculars. They were heavy (as glass made) and the achieved FOV was not really great but it was crystal clear and nearly zero SDE. When i got my DK2 i was really disappointed to see this big pixel party! But realizing what a great FOV and the right software can achieve (a kind of presence) i knew we have to go for great FOV if VR should be a new medium and not only a image/movie viewer.
Thanks for the detailed response!
I think Samsung/Oculus tipped the balance WAY too far toward FOV at the expense of SDE.

Personally I prefer a larger FOV, and think you get the best experience with the foams removed (only have some on my nose). Would never choose a smaller FOV just for slightly less of a SDE as that would totally kill the immersion for me. Hoping for 4K full RGB screens in two years time.
Agree with you
I for one absolutely agree with you. got mine 2 days ago and yeah the experience is nice but the image quality is fuzzy or blurry, it would be nice if someone can mod a lens on to the Gear VR to sharpen the quality.
my question: is this issue addressed in the upcoming drift in 2016?

To be very very honest, Im not disappointed about it at all. The tech is really young, the Note4 was only compatible with the innovator and development editions of the hardware. I cant comment on the quality improvement between the devices. But with a Note5 and a consumer version, Im getting exactly what I thought id be getting. Very bleeding edge technology that hasn't even gotten off the runway but is far ahead than anything else on the consumer market today.
Remember this: 100$ ..................... if you want something better, the next step is 600$ and only in march.
Also, this is technically not even an official 1st gen device. It's a slightly better draft than the slightly better draft of the previous editions. I think oculus and samsung partnered to use Galaxy users as a sort of Beta test. This technology obviously is the future, but as of now, its still a foetus. I have a Note 5, one of the most powerful smartphones in the world, and yet, the VR uses 98% of the phones performance. The battery drains within 1h practically and it generates so much heat it would probably keep your coffee warm in winter.
I bought one of the best rated VR headsets on amazon as a gift for my nephew, it cost me half of what my GearVR cost me, and it doesnt even come close to offer what Samsung does. The ONLY thing it does better, it it has almost no light leak. Thats also the only thing i can ***** about the GearVR, i would have liked a black background around lenses and thicker padding around face, or at least, an extra strip of padding we can patch the light leaks (also a carrying bag would have been nice even if it was cheap).
This GearVR sould have been called the "Early Bird Edition". We all are early adopters, I can tell you one thing, for 100$, I have impressed 100% of the people that put the headset on, and not only impressed, amazed. And 3 weeks later, i'm still being impressed by the new thing I find I can do, explore or play.
As for the pixels, it would take an 8K screen 3 inches from our face to not see them. I didnt know this until recently when the app froze on me but out the the entire screen realestate, only a very small portion is used for a majority of content. So yeah, that 1080p content you are watching, not exactly trueHD

I might have made it a bit small, but not by much.
P.S. Not a big fan of the super mega studio adult films, but they have actually some of the highest quality videos out there, there are some samples floating around, its quite impressive.
Over the moon with mine, can watch full length movies with ease Tonto being one of them, battery no problem here with an s6 edge plus, but use mine on wifi only usually, and I have facebook blather and g+ disabled, and nothing polling ,email etc. all on manual , usually use unit at 4 to 5 on its brightness slide ,not aware of any light leak in my experience.
Everyone without exception who has tried it is blown away, I own my favourite phone anyway and then this appears, an accessory for $99 with this level of experience, if you are fortunate to be able to afford it without neglecting your life and dependants needs.......who wouldn't . If apple had released this exact same item with their logo ,the media would have eaten it alive with cream and the public would too, and, when they do, they will, we all
know this is in its infancy, but its a great place to be, the next advance in screen resolution will nail it, when your looking at a 25 foot screen with the clarity of a samsung big tv quality ,you, entertainment wise, have arrived.
plus, keep em like new guys, when it comes time to upgrade, this will practically sell your phone for you...maybe. lol.
Love mine too. Have had it since the day after Thanksgiving, and still using it a lot daily. There is a "screen door effect" to it, but the resolution is still clear and bright on movies. I put on some 3D movies last week, and they look great, and are easy to watch. Games like Herobound and Gunjack are also stunning and extremely fun with a controller to play. Samsung Internet browser is great, but don't count on all content to be great quality. There are some good 3D video samples on Youtube through the browser though. Also just looked through some Experiences in the Oculus Video app tonight, like going to the Electric Daisy Carnival. Again, quality of that video not great, but still a fun experience to see what it would be like to be there.
SDE is overpowering and both sides of the screen out of focus - in my experience. Its a cool toy but nothing I would use for any length of time. This is with the Note 5.
That being said, the tech should probably be good in a year or so.
