[REQUEST]Use Android as Gamepad for Windows - G1 Apps and Games

hey guys.
i`d like to ask if there´s an app that allows to use your android phone as gamepad for windows. just like nebudroid, but with multitouch.
some suggestions?

Although personally I cant find anything that allows you to do that, if you just want to use your phone to play emulators on windows or other things, then try using RemoteDroid, but its really only that useful if your phone has a physical keyboard. Its incredibly easy to set-up, took me 3 minutes.

i know android can pretty much do anything, but IMO there are just some things it shouldn't. wired xbox 360 controller will make you at least 5^14x happier.

Well... a "wired xbox 360 controller" might "make you at least 5^14x happier." but I don't feel like carrying that around all the time whereas carrying a phone around is already a necessary evil

maybe someone could share any news regarding this topic?

[REQUEST] $200+ in donations for working TV out w/CM.

In the quest for the ultimate device, CM gets pretty close. A bunch of people on the CM forums are chiming in with donations for working TV-out for the Incredible, and I wanted to cross-post it here to hopefully garner some more attention and interest.
The goal here is to have working TV out without compromising any other main functionality (like Bluetooth on Sense ROMs).
Not sure if it's possible at all, but if I can attach my phone to my TV and play SNES with my kids using Wiimotes, I will chip in my $20 bucks, and a bunch of other people will too.
The donation count was up to 160 bucks on CM forums as of the time of this post, and I have 3 friends that will chip in as well.
If it happened, I'd donate. CM already deserves donations, but this would up the amount for sure.
Dude thats sick you can get SNES games on the Incredible than (if) this gets fixed hook it to the TV and play it on the TV using wiimotes... can you use xbox remotes instead, you say that it can be done on sense but you loose bluetooth, so can I hook it to the tv on sense and use a wiimote? or xbox remote if works cos thats what i have lol
i'd chip in if that happens (and before i jump ship and get an Incredible HD lol), absolutely

I'm pretty sure tv out works on other (sense-less) roms, it's just a cyanogenmod issue. Use a different rom & it should work. I know nothing about video game systems past the ps1, so does the xbox 360 have bluetooth controllers? If it does, there should be an app on the market for it.

The Xbox 360 controllers work via radio, not bluetooth. Just an FYI.

Why not just get SNES9x for PC and hook up your pc to the tv via HDMI, use a bluetooth dongle to connect the wiimote to the pc for a controller and there you go. Thats what I do

thats what i do too, the bluetooth dongle was $2 on amazon and everything else was already in place for me.
I would also chip in $20! It is the only thing that I really miss of HTC Sense.
Bluetooth is required to connect the Wiimote to the phone. The Bluetooth stack on sense roms is a piece of crap and doesn't allow modern protocols.
As for the computer thing, I want to be able to do this in the car, at a friends, or anywhere that doesn't involve lugging around a computer. That's why I have a smartphone.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
From what I read they had to reverse engineer the entire HDMI stack to get HDMI working on the EVO -- I'm guessing they'd have to do the same to get TV-OUT working on the the DInc? Heh... or we could all save up cuz the DInc HD is alleged to be "revealed" on Jan 6th. A device that basically looks like a VzW EVO. ;P
But seriously... I'd give it a go and even help if we had source code. But I don't think you get source code when you reverse engineer...
+1 on this. There's got to be some way to get both bluetooth and TV out functioning on the same rom. The wiimote+tv out idea is pretty much the reason I got the incredible when it came out, only to discover that its now been nearly a year with no solution to this!
I may have to buy a TV-out cable and see if I can get some extra money! LOL!
Go for it!!! (connect 4!!)
I will throw $50 into the pot for whoever gets this working. I know Netflix is not here yet, but I got the DInc so that once it did, I could stream to my TVs, specifically the one in my car.

This donation to make a rom/tweak **** is getting insane. As far as Netflix, they say Android is too insecure of a platform, however a new phone that was just showcased had a NetFlix app icon on the homescreen. Hmmmm.....

I dunno if it's insane so much as it is a small minority of people realizing what it's gonna take to motivate those with the skill to solve the issue. Realistically, I'd bet thousands of people have an incredible in their pockets and don't even know it can do TV out, and will never try even if you told them. Verizon certainly doesn't make much noise about the feature!
And even those of us that are savvy enough to know, might never use it enough to care. How many of us are running CM6.1 right now without feeling any loss of function? Dare I say, enough people that the entire process of making CM run on an incredible went through to the point of being called "stable" without even a hint of that feature being available. I know Im running it....even though I want TV out real bad.
Theres so little steam for this, that unless we can literally "fund" the R&D to make it happen ourselves, it might just disappear as newer phones come out and development stops on the older ones. I remember in april last year being amazed that I had a phone that ran @ 1GHz. I mean, seriously. One [email protected]#$^$& gigahertz. And now, we're *****ing about the thunderbolt because it doesn't have dual cores in it! I can't recall a single year in phones where these kinds of leaps and bounds have been so constant.
The whole world of software is a strange parallel to the music industry, wherein it used to be a giant divide between "local band" and "warner bros gold record". Then we had the internet, and an entire underground revolution took place where artists on the ground level could again get their music to the masses, and since most of the middlemen were removed, it again became possible for the idea of a "modest" living on music to be made. The 10 bucks that someone pays for a vynal is going mostly to the artist, where the 25 you'd spend on a major CD might reach the artist as only 2 dollars. The artist wins, the listeners win, and the same kids who were "sticking it to the man" by downloading major releases turn around and trumpet the virtues of "support your favorite bands!!"
This whole world of phone tweaking is almost like that - for years we were lucky if a company made an app for something, and if they didn't, well, a lot of times it didn't get made. Sure, some people developed for WM, but based strictly on popularity of the platform, I couldn't do half of what I can with my android, even though there isn't a huge difference in hardware. It was also much more difficult to find the guys who made these programs - some of them were made in the 90's and just stayed part of the WM continuum for years after they should have been replaced.
Now we have a whole community based on this android os, and it feels like a lot of the middleman has been cut out of the equation - the "audience" can directly reach the "artist", and through that direct connection, can much more easily justify paying for the efforts made. It's hard to pay 60 bucks for a windows mobile app for GPS, for example, knowing that the developer at the end will see only a few cents of that. But when the price on the google market is only 5 bucks for an app, and you know a large percentage of that is going directly to the guy who put in his time and effort to make the program, it's much easier to swallow that.
When someone writes a program, Torque is a great example, that helps me, I'm willing to give the DEV some funding for it, just like I'm willing to pay for tickets to see a local show.
It's a sort of "golden age of software" that I think many have been waiting for, almost as if we get the virtues of "mom and pop shop" service, with the Walmart pricing we've come to depend on as a society.
Hell, I paid 15 bucks for the cable to make TV out function. After what I've paid for accessories for this phone, and considering I intend to keep it till t breaks, I'm certainly willing to contribute to the guy who finally gets the TV out running like it should. If I was a capable software dev, I'd do it myself. But, I'm not. I am however a mechanic, computer systems admin, musician, live sound engineer, and multitude of other things. And when someone asks for me to solve an issue in one of those areas, well, it's certainly nice to make a little scratch on it!
Sorry about the long rant, I'm drunk. And feverishly hoping someone makes this happen! Last trip I took was 12k miles of driving with no real map, in an overheating van, forgot the CD book at home, with a bunch of guys in the back begging for internet access, and we never ever had a hotel lined up before arriving at a destination. And my phone helped solve 100% of these problems, over and over again. Now if only I could get street fighter on the hotel TV from my phone (and hand a wii controller to my opponent), I could die a happy man!
Nothing but real talk man ^

Cmon its really good if your not taking your notebook anywhere and you need to write some fukin long mail or something I thinks its really cool and good... 25$.. yeees its not so for everyone but for a business man its really gooooood
Yeah
But Bluetooth Headsets don't work in 2.2 or 2.3 ROMs so I wonder if this will be the same. It'd be good if it linked to the phones wifi.
This bluetooth keyboard doesn't work with Android 2.1, drivers on CD added with keyboard are for Android 1,6. With CM this keyboard will propably work.
I had this keyboard for a few week, but doesn't work with LG, iPod Touch and similar devices.
hmm, it seems interesting... Maybe I'll buy one.
Is there anyone who has used this or similar keyboard before?
Cant you use any bluetooth keyboard?

I bought this:
http://www.miniinthebox.com/ultra-s...2-0-rechargeable-keyboard-silver_p211557.html
With 2.3.5 CM7 rom you got to have BlueInput software to use it.
With 2.2.1 Utopia that I have now you can pair it directly from the settings>....Bluetooth menu.
It's an HID device (the keyboard) and all such keyboards need HID support from the phone's ROM.
Why I bought this?
I've got one laptop and one netbook.
I never carry a laptop with me. I use it instead of a desktop.
I may carry the netbook and may not carry it when away from home.
When I'm at home and want to lay on the sofa, usually the netbook is occupied by the kids (+ it is heated pretty much).
So I prefer to use my phone for some surfing around the forums etc.
So bought this and is very very practical, although it does not fold.
If you want to buy a keyboard with a brand name eg Freedom Pro (which is foldable) with ssp protocol, there's KEYPRO app to do the pairing and key mapping if I remember well.
This was my first aim, but finally I tried a much cheapier solution.
Sorry for the bump, i searched for over 3 months for a good bt keyboard but all of them cost 30 usd + shipping, so, it's not worth it
but it's big! it isn't portable! right?
I've spoken with mike gapinski (dev of ICS for GT540) and he said, that in ICS there are drivers for pad from xbox, ps3 and apple wirelesss keyboard
I'm using this keyboard when i play ps games on FPse. This device removes problem with multitouch. Keyboard works on SwiftDroid, PCF's CM7, Mike's ICS and I think on most of 2.2+ ROMS. Battery leasts for 48h, so when phone is charging you could play long hours. I bought it for 15 $.
Looks funny but why spend that amount of money for something that will probably be useless to you?
it's not useless - as I said - i play on this device PS games. Without this keyboard you can't use two or even three different keys in games. I think, taht in games it's very helpful.
Looks interesting but If you have access to a wlan sending sms with airdroid is ok.. and cheaper..

External Monitor App?

I was curious and thought this would be kind of a neat app. Is there an app that I can use to turn my GTab into an external/second monitor for my laptop? If so is it Linux compatible or just Windows? Is it USB or WIFI?
I've been trying to find something like this also.
You could try a remote access app. There are a few to choose from in the market. There are also a few threads here about some of the different options.

Surprised their devs are so naive as to say they couldn't see the market for and android version. Guess they don't actually watch or read the news much.

Lol. I'll second that. Aren't we the "hackers" always looking to do something cool with our open source gadgets? They are as naive as it gets.
I was just thinking of something like this aswell. Is it possible to re-engineer the hdmi-out to take hdmi-in? I'd love to plug my cable box into my tab while i play xbox on the TV (or vice versa) I know there has been no positive progress on hdmi-in with HTC's mini-HDMI implementation. Maybe viewsonic (being a monitor company) has a better possibility? Any dev's feel like taking a crack at it?
iDisplay is available in the android market. works just like the iOS version.
Anyone tried iDisplay on the gtab?
I thought I'd buy it but there are only two bad reviews on their webpage and eleswhere I've read that they do no give refunds. There is no trial version on their site, but their terms of service says that customers are expected to run trial versions before they buy . . .
I sent them a kind message asking them if they truly expect anyone to give them money for basically nothing. But I tried to be nice, and to encourage them to post a trial so I could buy and give them a positive review. Five bucks ain't much, but darned if I'll give it away to shmucks . . .
Anyway, if the app works well, they deserve our support.
My gtab is running vegan5 and I use the HP mini wireless keyboard with both of the office suites available. The gtab is taking place of my laptop and doing a great job of it. To be able to also use it to augment the laptop by giving me more screen real estate would be icing on the cake.
Thanks for posting this thread. I never would have thought if it.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll purchase the app. I loaded the XP application and it appears that a virtual server is created which could be the reason for the slowdown.
It would be nice if some of these application developers provided just a wee bit of info that could be used to determine if an app is appropriate or not. I think that the apple market has set a kind of precedent for wishy-washy frivolity that is going to carry over into the android market unless google demands a higher degree of responsibility. The time is now, before the market matures as android tabs and notebooks take over most of our computing tasks, as I think they will.
The apps written for the old Palm devices were held to a much higher standard than a lot of iPhone apps I've seen. But then the Palm devices were oriented towards business productivity and not so much as toy/entertainment oriented as iPhones and iPads. I spent part of the day with my hands on the Xoom tab, and talking to several Motorola reps and Verizon sales people. I must have sounded like an evangalist for the android OS.
If google is listening I'd like to tell them to take their work seriously right now because they could be taking over the entire personal computing market in the near future. Computing, regardless of platform, is not all about entertainment. We in engineering and science have needs that also require more versatile hardware and software. The tegra3 is just around the corner . . . then what? How will all those extra processing cores be made truly useful? I want an android powered tricorder.
My evangelical proclivities are simply gushing forth . . . (in all the wrong places)
Thanks again to the OP for initiating this thread.
I tried iDisplay today. I like it! It is a bit laggy, but works great other than that!

PSP, 2 CFW or not 2 CFW

Besides the old and tired reason of playing "back ups", is there any real reason to hack a psp. It's cool and gets you geek cred. But with a smartphone that does emulation, youtube, and skype, why would you want to hack a psp? Can anybody help me? Just looked and I'm still on 5.xx from when I bought Gran Tourismo. I know that they are up to 6.3x and there would be alot for me to do. But just looking for a reason to. Anybody running cfw and have a perspective I can't see? Please chime in.

Can't think of the name of now off hand, but I think I saw a theming wizard last year. Let's you redo all the pics and doesn't require any hacking. It makes a theme for you to save to the memory stick and apply. Is that like what you're talking about. Or theming a bit deeper?

That's kind of what I was thinking. Thanks. Just too much risk for not enough return imo. I don't steal games, so not worth it for me.
Personally, I've tried emulators on my Evo, and for me it's super odd to play them on a touch screen. I've tried using a wiimote with it's attachment, but no matter what wiimote or ime I've used, there's always a input delay. PSP can emulate PS1, N64, GBA, SNES, and Genesis for me with decent controls. Plus there are some games on it that are pretty good. Phantasy Star Portable series is pretty good.

Controller For Gear VR

Can anyone suggest a compatible controller for use with Gear VR & S7?
A few apps ask for & insist on the Samsung game pad specifically & others some kind of controller. Samsung don't seem to make their gamepad anymore. I've had limited success with a cheap Chinese Bluetooth controller but I just wonder if there's a better solution out there?
Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
to expand on the original a bit: I'm left handed. Samsung assumes everyone is right handed. i'd like a controller of some sort the lets me do everything the touch pad and buttons do, but while holding it in my hand. Such a creature exist?
The most common recommendation for a controller is the Steelseries Stratus XL. It's said to work on pretty much any app and game, and is a decent controller. Make sure you get the Windows/Android version, though, as they also make the controller for the Apple platforms.
better stated question

so one real problem is that i'm looking for some way to completely control the device without having to look all over the place - preferably with a controller not the built-in thing on the wrong side . with arthritis, bone spurs, and decayed disks, my neck is a wreck and i'd like to keep my head as still as possible. i know - that's not 'what vr is all about'. 'VR' has nothing compelling yet - just a bunch of gee-whiz junk - i'm not a gamer. but the gear vr, is a great personal theater for movie buffs like me. and being able to attach to a mechanical engineering CAD reader (or even mathematica's offline reader) would be great.
i found the built-in movie player that can reposition (poorly) the screen for reclined viewing, but the device's controls always require contortions my old-man's neck just can't do comfortably anymore. suggestions?
I'm not sure exactly what you're after, but maybe the new gear VR is more what you need? Not sure it's available yet, though.
Ah, that explains why their other controller isn't around anymore.

thanks, but i don't think what i want exists, and may never on the general market. i just want some way to control all aspects of the virtual environment (store, movie player, etc) without having to move my head - it hurts my neck to turn my head in many of the directions required. Didn't choose to get old, but i didn't like the alternative
Maybe pick up a simple, cheap controller such as Pasonomi Wireless Bluetooth Gamepad, Remote Controller for VR Glass Virtual Reality Headset, Wireless Mouse for Android Smartphones and Tablet (Black) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01E3PTTPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_JZVIETDuFaUc4 and have a play with it. That was the 1st controller I got when just wanted to have a dabble. It should at least allow you to move a cursor around the screen with the gear stick & one of the buttons to the right act as your click/OK button. I think some kind of controller is the only way you're going to be able to cut down the head movements (I'm not keen on a lot of that either) if the game/app supports it. I got quite into it then & upgraded to a BEBONCOOL Wireless Bluetooth Game Controller with Clip for Android Phone/Tablet/TV Box/Gear VR https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01EV6NXU2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_tz95rgE8AD6KP Good luck finding something that works for you.

Hey, it looks like the new Samsung is almost the thing you need, it seems to work like a air mouse. Look for reviews on youtube.
yeah - it's pretty good. at least, in those apps that support it, there's 'cursor' control. i'd still like to be able to rotate the display, roll, pitch and yaw. but this is a definite improvement.
---------- Post added at 02:31 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:21 AM ----------
p.s. i'm not much of a gamer, and don't find 'vr' terribly compelling. but now I can rip my movies, move them to the phone (something I hate about android - no mappable drives) and watch in bed while my wife sleeps. that's all I wanted... now if someone would invest some serious time into the movie players. without exception the interfaces s***.
maybe a good ereader (esp for comics) might be nice, but not critical, and it would be really cool to get immersive 'laser' light shows keyed off the music I listen to, but for now i'll just watch Bogey outsmart the Nazis (or Captain America do the same)
