Unplug USB, shut down Odin, pull out battery.
Open odin, put in battery, hold vol up/down and plug in USB =P

jeeze that's scary
Thank You Zilch

Lol... messing with all these firmwares my phone spends more time blank, and with the phone/computer screen than it does at the home screen
Doesn't help that my work computer has dodgy USB so I get the "random colored screen" crash and have to restart odin 3 times to get it to work

I'm not used to seeing it go completely blank. ANd when it wouldn't power up I gulped I'm learning not to be so skeered.

Haha at this point I'm impervious to it. My worst scare was the first time I got the phone/computer screen and the only way I knew to get into download mode was vol down/power which of course didnt work hahaha. 10 minutes of experimenting and a less than supportive coworker chortling as I fiddled with button combos and USB cables and BAM download mode

Same here. I went a full 24 hours of it sitting o in my drawer because the screen was black and I couldnt figure out the button combo, nothing worked. Now when the screen goes black its like...time to flash again. Its a good learning experience. I know how to use Ti and tom manager pretty well now. And I recommend spending the money for the premium versions.

[Q] The phone is bricked. Can anyone help?

Hi there-
My phone appears to be dead, completely. I've tried to reflash it using Odin3 One click downloader, it started normally but then in the middle the phone's screen turned pink and stayed there for like 10 minutes until I disconnected the cable then took the battery out/in. Next attempt to boot my phone was unsuccessful, in fact my phone wouldn't boot at all. I've tried different button combinations but nothing helps. The phone remains dead. Is there something I can do about it or it is over for me?
Any response would be greatly appreciated.
so with the phone off, odin open, and you hold vol up/down, then plug your usb into the phone, you get nothing? Odin doesn't even see the phone?
is your phone less than 30 days old? If so, take it into AT&T and say the OTA update bricked it.

Nope, nothing works. The only combination that does something is volup/power - it brings a few red lines:
RST_STAT =0x1
PMIC_IRQ =0x3c
..... and so on
Actually, I just fixed it! Wow! Never give up!
how?..........

I was finally able to get to download mode and then Odin3 did its trick.
The strange part that I've used Odin3 something like 10 times before and never had this issue. By keep pushing phone's buttons I was finally able to get a "magic" combination, which took me directly to download mode. After that Odin3 restore went 100% as usual. Sorry, that I can't give more info.

[Q] How to unbrick this captivate?

My captivate was running Cog 2.2 Beta5.5. I tried to undo lagfix before updating to beta6, but it failed. So I decided to flash back to stock 2.1 then upgrade to Cog.
Problems appeared when Odin stopped at setting pit file. This happened several times before so that I unplugged my phone and tried to get into download and flash again. However, the volume button combination does not work this time. So I could not flash the phone again.
The current status of the phone is:
No AT&T screen at startup, just displays the phone and computer
Cannot enter downloand mode by holding down both volume button then plug-in cable
and obviously the computer does not recognize the device when connected.
Is there still a way to get the phone into download mode (or anything else that could unbrick it)?
Thanks a lot!
just keep at it. it will work eventually. not bricked...

Yeah it should be recoverable but I'm wondering what I can do with the phone as I cannot access download...

I had this problem a few days ago after updating to 2.2. I tried every single button/usb/battery combo and nothing worked. FORTUNATELY I was within 30 days of purchasing it (I guess there's a silver lining when diving right into "hacking"), and I brought it to the store with the box and receipt and just told them it gave me an error when turning it on (played dumb) and they swapped it out without even testing. If you're over the 30 days then I think you're pretty much SOL... gotta pay for a replacement.

just pull the usb from the phone & the battery, replace the battery, then open odin 1 click, then hold both vol buttons, while holding the vol buttons, insert usb.
repeat till it gets into download mode. sometimes I walk away for a few minutes, then try again. suddenly it works. make sure you use the usb port that works for your phone, on my netbook only 1 of the usb ports works for the phone.
1. Unplug USB
2. Pull battery
3. Put battery back in
4. Reconnect the USB
5. Open odin one click
6. Wait for battery icon to show
7. Hold Volume up & Down and power
screen will go to att screen, or computer + Phone screen. Then it'll go back to the battery screen. Keep holding till you see it go black again, Then let go of power, still holding volume keys.
That should do it. Keep trying you'll get the hang of it quickly.

This look like the key combination to enter Rocovery mode
My phone does not show the battery icon now. After applying step 4 the computer+phone screen comes up.
Nope, it's for download. Trust me, I've had to do it enough. That's ok, you can follow the same steps from the phone+PC screen. Just let it go black, then back to the screen, then black a second time before letting go.
Again, USB MUST be plugged in at this time for it to work.

Thank you.
BTW how many times of reboot before u got into Download?
Two questions:
Have you been able to use the three button method to get into download or recovery before now?
Did you ever apply the JH7 firmware OTA update from AT&T to your phone?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Basically let it reboot once and as soon as the second time comes that's when you let go of power. Previous poster has a good point too, some firmware updates are known to "break" the 3 button combo.
Have you pulled the SIM and any SD card you have installed? Try that too. I couldn't get it into download, then pulled everything out, put battery in, started up ODIN, held in vol buttons, inserted USB and yay, fixed.
If you open ODIN while phone is connected or disconnect then reconnect USB while ODIN is open, you will never get it right, FYI...
I had to do it with ODIN opened first, then volume buttons, then USB. Any screw ups and you have to start over.
All cards were removed and I used the original cable as well but I still could not get out of the phone and computer screen...
Shipped the phone for exchange...
Might have been able to get into download mode by holding the volume buttons inserting the USB and popping the battery back in.
That's how I got lucky today.

which ODIN are you trying to use?
if you are using regular ODIN and not one click, are you giving it the files it needs to flash or are you leaving everything blank?
if you are using one click or regular, make sure ODIN is open first!

Download Mode
Ok guys I think I found something that we were missing. There is a little brass "button" its about the size of a ball point pen. If you have the battery case off then the button is not "pressed". What I did was push the button in. Hold down up and down then insert the usb cable and BAM download mode.
Just an fyi. It worked for me to get into download mode.

I'm trying to unbrick my phone too. All I get with the Odin One-Click is "Get PIT for mapping..." It stays there forever. Someone help please.

[Q] MIGHT have hard bricked phone :(

So I was attempting to flash back to stock with Odin (I was using Assonance 5.2). I turned the phone off, then while holding the volume buttons plugged in the USB like normal. Then Odin said added the phone, then I hit start. And it seemed like it was working just fine, then all of a sudden the screen on the phone turned red. Then the status bar on Odin stopped moving completely (stayed for awhile). So I think I made the next big mistake of just disconnecting the USB and taking out the battery. So now the phone won't turn on. So I'm not sure I hard bricked the phone or what? Anyone have any idea? Thanks!
I've plugged the phone into the outlet charger, still nothing happens. This happened like maybe 15 min ago. No action when plugged in the computer or charger. Can't even boot into recovery I don't think. the power button was giving me some trouble earlier today. whenever I was trying to wake the phone up, it seemed to take a few clicks of the power button to wake the phone. This happened only after I flashed Assonance 2.5, so I wanted to flash to an earlier version of the rom. thanks!
What you want to do is get into Download Mode, and flash with Odin One-Click JF6 to get your phone working again..
Have you tried all the various button combos to get into Download Mode? .
If the button combos don't work, you can always try to build/buy a JIG which will force your phone into Download if it's still possible on your phone.
I've tried to get into download mode, but can't seem to do it. I've tried holding the volume up and down button then plugging in the usb (which didn't work). then i tried the taking the battery out, then holding the volume up and down button and power button, then plugging in the usb, then reinserting the battery, then taking my hand off the power button (which didn't work). what is the JIG method?
edit. ok i have no clue wtf just happened, but i am currently in download mode using odin and flashing back to stock.....this is just too weird.....sooo any rom suggestions?
Look in my signature for an example of a JIG.

[Q] Big problem - cant get into download/recovery mode

I tried searching for this, but wasn't really sure how to phrase my problem, so I apologize in advance if this was posted (it probably was).
So heres the deal, I was using the leaked 2.2 on my captivate and decided to flash it back to 2.1. Well when Odin was just about finished doing its thing, my computer crashed before it finished. Now when i hit the power button, the first AT&T screen comes up, then it goes black, and a few seconds later the screen comes back. It does this until I pull the battery. Same thing when i plug in the usb, but with the charging screen instead.
So when I hold all 3 buttons for recovery mode, it just does the at&t screen thing, and when I hold the volume buttons and plug in the usb, it does it with the charging screen, therefore i cant get into download/recovery mode.
If anyone has any suggestions on how I can get it into download mode? If not, I'll go ahead and order a jig, i'm just hoping to avoid doing that if I dont have to. Thanks.
I've heard of a few "tricks" to getting it in to download mode, but Its always a good idea to have a Jig around. Have you though of making one? probably faster, and maybe cheaper as well.

Were you using the leaked 2.3 or 2.2? The same thing has happened with me when I used the leaked 2.3 GB. Look up on how to use ADB if your computer will pick up your phone. I had to do that to get back to 2.1 using odin one click, but yet the same problem still goes on with the 3 button trick not working and pluggin the usb in with volume buttons and it still going to the charge screen.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest you flashed 2.3 not 2.2 as froyo has been an official captivate rom for all carriers for about 6 months now.
So how about trying the gingerbread method of volume up + power for recovery and volume down + power for download mode.
If you find that working for you then use your 1 click on a computer that isn't prone to crashing. Or you will hard brick your phone this time.
No, I'm positive it was the leaked 2.2 rom. I had been using it for months, since before the official update came out.
Anyways, I got myself a jib and was able to get into download mode. I used Odin to flash 2.1 again and it was successful. However, It still just goes into that boot screen loop when I start it.
Any idea why that is? Could it have something to do with the bootloaders?
no not a bootloader issue.
what is the build number on your phone? its on a little sticker on the phone under the battery 4 numbers first 2 are year second 2 are month, some phones 1010 and and after bootloop when odin one click is used. just use the full version of odin with a different firmware besides jf6 (there are 2 in the one click thread at the bottom of the op)
I have the same problem. My build number is 1105 and I need to get to 2.1. Whenever I use odin one click I go into a bootloop. My phone shipped with 2.2
My build number is 1009. Im about to try using the full Odin3 with the firmware found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10056254&postcount=36
E: Ok, that worked for me, I'm back to 2.1 JH2 right now. Gonna try to understand all this stuff a little better before I flash again. Thanks for your help everyone!

Help with S7

Second time to edit this post...
Tried to get S7 on and it got stuck at do not turn off target. then screen went black. Not sure what happened.
Phone wouldnt turn on but would go to download so i attempted to flash it back to stock with I897UCJF6-Final-OCD-REVO
That successfully completed 100% unplugged the phone and powered it up and now it is stuck at the "AT&T World Phone" screen
It just sits here and flashes over and over about 10 seconds on and 2 seconds off and never gets past the AT&T screen. If I hold the vol up down and power it goes to the battery charging screen and does the same thing.
Any ideas?
Phone still wont do anything and will not go into download mode.
Have you ever used that JF6 package before? What build is your phone? To get in to download mode you can take out batter, open odin (run as admin) connect phone to computer (rear pc usb port) press key combo and insert battery. If that doesn't work make a jig.
bad part is i just got this phone from AT&T. I had some other issues with my old one that had 'dipity 6.x on it.
So thats what im dealing with. STRAIGHT out of the box and tried to get the newer version of dipity on it and trashed.
No matter what I do it wont go to download mode... Im on a laptop and ive tried every port available with no results.
Using your method of putting the cable in without the batt and holding the buttons im getting same result.
Ive used this ODI before on my old phone, so i know its worked before.
If that phone came with froyo then it will bootloop with JF6 odin. Get in download mode and ODIN a KB1 package somewhere in the dev section.
If thats all that is wrong with it im going to flip. I appreciate your help.
Well let us know if it is =P
