[Q] T5353 Questions - Touch Diamond2, Pure Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I ran across an ad for a T5353. The phone is listed as: "Double OS Diamond T5353 Smartphone WM 6.5/ Android 2.0 Google Cell Phone"
It's made in China and has the HTC logo on it.
Can anyone answer the following questions?
How does it compare to the HTC HD2 (highlights)?
Will it work in 3G on AT&T? (HD2 won't due to radio not being capable)
Will AT&T flag it as a "Smart Phone"? I only have the $10 Unlimited Data Plan.
Will it Tether without hassles via USB & Bluetooth?
WiFi Sharing?
Any pros and cons from EXPERIENCED users with REAL hands-on will be appreciated.
Thanks

Your question would be best asked here.
AFAIK, these clones run about half of the memory of the real Topaz and are no where near as good as the HD.
ROM flashing is different as well.

Using the Diamond HSDPA connection on a laptop?

Hello there,
I'm a previous WM device owner, last device was HTC Wizard.
I currently have a Nokia N95 and i'm planning to get the Diamond when its released on T-Mo in a few weeks.
I connect the N95 to the laptop a lot to get internet on the move, can anyone confirm if this is a featrure supported by the Diamond / WM 6.1
I don't recall having this ability on my Wizard, i have to be honest though.. with it being purely GPRS i would never have tried.
I appreciate this is a bit of a noobie question but i've been out of the Windows Mobile scene for a while so things have changed a little.
Thanks in advance.

There is a program that comes as standard in WM6.1 called "Internet Sharing" that allows this... T-Mobile might not though (in the UK, Web'n'Walk Plus/Max do allow tethering, the basic one doesn't though).
Hey l3v5y
Thanks for that, I'm on the W'n'W plus package, so thats all good
Thanks for the quick response!

[Q] The Rogers Diamond

I am about to buy a Rogers Diamond. Having owned 2 different Windows Mobile phones from them, I know they probably managed to limit the heck out of their Diamond so I was wondering if anyone that has a Rogers Diamond could tell me (us?) if they decided to limit software installation, GPS, internet etc etc.
If so, is there a fix?
If there's no english one I'll get the french one. Any flashing to standard english ROM possible right now?
Thanks in advance, can't wait!

PS: Gecko is coming soon, hopefully before Christmas!
well i got mine today, few board members got it as welll before me.
I haven't played too much with the phone yet, but up to now they dont seem like they played too much with it...
if you want to know:
ROM Version: 1.93.631.8 WWE
Radio Version: 1.00.25.06
ram: 192mb
flash size: 256mb
you can flash to anything you want as long as you HARD-SPL your phone, causing it to SuperCID.
You don't really have to worry about backing up your rom because you can find it here, a board member already got it for us to play around with.

havent seen that version of the radio before?
No. Memory. Card.
What the heck? I had a 4GB one anyway, but it makes testing apps and transferring music so fast!
Rogers Diamond
I got my Rogers branded HTC Diamond yesterday and so far it'll let me install any apps I want. Internet works through wifi and 3G. I can't find a way to turn off 3G connection. GPS works but acquiring sat lock takes like 5mins compared to my old EU/Asia Diamond which locks to sat in 30sec.
ROGERS 3G
Just want to share this. But I'm pretty sure this has been tackled in the forums already.
Rogers branded HTC Diamond doesn't have the option to turn of 3G through band selection. I found this registry hack to enable band selection and now I can turn 3G off.
Rogers default registry - OFF
[\HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting\]
"ShowUMTSBandPage"=dword:0
Registry tweak to enable band changes
[\HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting\]
"ShowUMTSBandPage"=dword:1
Now you can go to >start>settings>phone>band tab and change band settings to your choice. I switched mine to just use GSM instead of auto which always connects on 3G.

really? that's what it says here, i just double checked cause you made me wonder i did a mistake
radio version
same radio version here.
ROM Version: 1.93.631.8 WWE
ROM Date: 10/30/08
Radio Version: 1.00.25.06
Protocol version: 52.31.25.13H
DIAM110 64M
SPL-1.93.0000
MicroP-Diam (LED) v11
I'm having issue with gps sat lock taking so long and I suspect this radio version is the culprit. I might unlock and flash the radio on my phone. I've been reading this forum religiously for past 6 days now trying to understand how to unlock and flash my phone. The more I read the more I get confused.
I have the same radio but am not having any problem acquiring satellite lock. By the way, this radio is already posted in the radio thread at the top of the Rom Development forum.. so I don't know why someone said it was not seen before.
I hope someone can find or make a backup for the first splash screen (Rogers red, VGA). We have backups for the OS, SPL, and radio so far.
Hi, why do you want to disable 3G? I thought it was a benefit?

I know. It's just that sometimes I would select something which needs internet connection (ex; quickgps) accidentally and it will try to connect through 3G. My friend got billed by Rogers a hefty $3000++ for internet connection which he never used because he thinks he accidentally run internet in his phone and unknowingly left it. I like the option of enabling 3G only when I need it. Plus I read from this forum that 3G connection is one of the battery killers of Diamond.

I'm using iGO8 and on my now sold EU/Asia Diamond it worked pretty well. Now with the Rogers branded HTC Diamond it takes like somewhere from 3-5 mins to lock to a sat. It sees the satellites but just wouldn't lock to them. My old diam got 1.00.25.05 radio in it and I'm thinking of flashing my phone with the same radio but keeping the Rogers ROM since there not that bad and as quick and stable as some cooked ROMs out there.

The Rogers one is 1.00.25.06.. wouldn't that be better, if not almost the same (version number)?
I'll go driving tonight to test mine

$3000?? But I thought they max out the data plan at $100 if you go over. I'm on my first month so I haven't seen my first bill yet, but apparently I have used up a lot of voice call minutes even though I hardly used the phone to call!!! I leave my data on all the time so that I can check email every half hour.

I don't know. He doesn't have any data plan with rogers just voice so I guess he is like pay as you go for 3G.
And just like me with my old iPAQ PDA phone I get billed for data usage every now and then for something I've never used. The most I got was 40 bucks. Didn't bother complaining since my time getting on hold by customer service is worth more than $40.
hat gps application is used in your diamond?

Hi, I am about to buy the rogers diamond. Since GPS is my must have function in a smart phone, could you tell me what gps application is used in your diamond?
Do you know if iguidance 3.0 works in rogers diamond?
Thanks
FYI
I am using Tomtom 7.91 on Diamond, it has about 2-3 seconds lag, very annoying
I'm using iGO8. So far great that is if it locks to a sat signal. Nothing wrong with iGo8 but I think it the radio version that came with Rogers branded diam.
hpod06: when you say 2-3 sec lag, do mean that your position on the gps is 2-3 sec late from actual. If so then same here. And same with my other iPAQ gps phone. So I think it's not the gps apps thats causing this delay but the gps chip used by phone. Well the lag doesn't really bother me since gps apps announces your next maneuver before hand. Just need to get use to it.

I'm using Radio 1.00.25.08 on Roger's in Toronto...been quite happy with it's performance.
ROM v: 1.93.831.1 WWE
HTC Touch Diamond P3700
Avoid rogers diamond!
I had to exchange rogers diamond to iphone even though I am always not a apple fan.
For whatever reason, the performance of rogers diamond is unacceptable. i.e. Multiple applications running concurrently would just hang the system. It's like a single thread system
I called the customer service, and the customer service manager didn't explicitly deny the problem when i pointed out, which imply this could be a common issue to the rogers diamond. As I have been reading all the diamond review, bad performance seems a always an issue. Some said, it's being significantly improved after upgrading to the new firmware, but at least this is not the case on rogers diamond. Regardless the underlying reason, i highly doubt rogers did a real integration test on diamond!!

Dosbox on Diamond? In Canada on Rogers?

Hi.
I'm relatively new to the world of Pocket PCs. I'm here to humbly ask a question: do the various dosbox ports work on the "HTC Touch Diamond"? And, especially, is anyone here a customer of Rogers in Canada?
I ask because I tried to get a phone specifically to play the old dos games I grew up on. I initially ordered a Samsung Jack ("Blackjack ii" in the States) because it had a keyboard. I later found out it's considered a Smartphone and isn't really very compatible with Dosbox. I could hardly play what I wanted and it was only after careful key mapping that I could do anything at all. And I found out that stuff like NES emulators just wouldn't install. I needed to "app unlock" the phone and doing so, for that specific phone and in Canada, disables the voice functionality of the phone. Seriously. So I sent it back.
I'm considering either the HTC Diamond or HTC Touch (200 mhz). Which would you recommend, for the purpose I've outlined? And are there any problems (ie VGA phone not compatible with the Dosbox ports, etc)? Is app unlocking required or will Rogers put a block on unsigned applications?
Thanks for your time guys! Nice to meet you.
Tyler
don't use a diamond but dosbox works perfectly fine on my x1
not sure why you ask about cellphone company as dosbox don't
use the internet for anything at all
I suppose I was asking two different questions - one of dosbox support and the second of unsigned application support. Rogers seems to have a track record of altering the security settings and, in the case of the Samsung Jack, disabling phone-use if these security settings are lowered. I think this is to prevent people from using the GPS service without paying for it.

Getting a Tilt

I am getting rid of my ghetto prepaid phone and I want to buy an HTC tilt. However I am on a strict budget so I want to go the T-mobile prepaid route. Does anyone here use this service (particularly the unlimited messaging for $15 a month) and can comment on its quality?
Obviously since I am here I want to update the phone to a nice custom rom or maybe Android. I have been reading a lot in the Android forum, but I have yet to learn if any of the versions work completely and are suited for daily use on the tilt. Are they? How about the WM roms, what are the most stable ones?
Lastly I want to use the GPS function on this phone but I don't want to get a data service. Are there any good map programs (free or otherwise) that will work with the GPS but that don't require an internet connection?
I apologize if I asked any stupid questions, but the wiki is not working and its difficult to find information from Google searching this forum, though I tried.
I couldnt tell you about T-mo's service but I have an unlocked Tilt from ATT with WinMo 6.5.3 on it...build 23557 with Mobile Shell running over top of it and its rock solid and super quick for such an old phone...actually makes me miss it even though I now use an EVO..as far as the maps go I have TomTom on the SD card with USA map on it and it works flawlessly with no need for a data plan
Thank you very much for the reply you have helped me a lot.
Does anyone know how much faster a stable build of Android (like a quality Donut release) is compared to a stable version of WM?
Now I just need to find a good quality pre-owned Tilt. Too bad I can't access the marketplace here.

Help me choose a minimal android rom that will run skype only.

Hi, I have this old HTC diamond CDMA phone.
It sits pretty useless now, but I had this Idea of turning it into WiFi skypephone?
I've heard that you can put Android on the Diamond, and from there it should be easy.
Anybody's familiar with the procedure?
Also any suggestions as to which android rom for CDMA Diamond to use?
Preferably I'd like to disable all radio (cellular and BT) except WiFi and just run the Skype client on it.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
