You have to flash a stock captivate kernel, use the key combo, run the update package, then flash back to the JPH kernel again

won't that not work since it's a 2.2 build and we have no available kernels?
did Zilch finally make a mistake? AND I CAUGHT IT!?!?

okay i will try it

I was always under the assumption that with a 2.2 ROM, a 2.1 kernel won't boot (even to recovery, though I assume since it can get to download it can get to recovery now that I think about it) as long as you flash the JPH kernel back immediately after before you boot?
maybe I didn't catch Zilch making a mistake =(

Nope, I'm right =P
You have to use it to get the recovery so that you can use our key combos (and power as select), install the package, then flash back. The phone won't BOOT without the JPH kernel but it will get to recovery =P

the JPH kernel will be inside the flashable package. look for a file named zimage.tar
was meant to imply the kernel was in there, didn't think he wouldn't know what to do with it... zZzzzZzzzzZZZZzz

No no no, if he does that the zImage file won't be flashable, unless he's on a linux box and can repackage it.
Go to the I9000 forums and find one of the threads about rooting JPH, they have a handy zip that contains the JPH kernel and the update.zip for rooting

when i made my selection of updating the zip then i press power button nothing happens leaves me stuck.
i did the captivate kernel then then i did the recovery to root and applied it. then i flash back the i9000 jhp kernel it wont make my selection to reboot and go in to the os.

Yup, thats stock captivate

I curious as to why people lately have been trying the i9000 jph? Yes, I would want 2.2 also but that thing is not made for these phones and with all the people lately having trouble, why bother? Just flash back to stock, use adb if buttons don't work, and load Eugene's captivate hybrid. It's fast, doesn't have the att/samsung bloat, and it works without bricking our phones.

It is with the 2e recovery, but the 3e from Untermensch is VERY easy to install. Just copy the "recovery" file into the /system/bin/ directory. If you use the version that disables checking, not the one with the key... it's slightly easier to install.

Recovery is not working on this ROM, I flashed it because someone was supposed to buy the phone from me this weekend, and this morning when I tried to get it into recovery, it just sits there and hangs at the Vibrant screen both if I am trying to get into recovery and trying to boot it up normally.
When I get off work I am going to try the ODIN version to see if I can't at least get it back to stock and get a recovery working with the ROM today. I will let everyone know when I get it working.
Flash the Rom, and install the install busybox app from the market. Install busy box, reboot and then see if you can get into recovery.
It's weird, but the same issue was encountered in the aospish Rom thread and that fixed it.
"if you amplify everything, nothing is heard"
See I would do that if it didn't hang on the Vibrant screen even when I am booting up without trying to go into recovery, and I don't have my laptop handy to be able to just try to adb reboot

Flashed the one from the first post, and it booted up fine the first couple times, then I tried to boot into recovery via quick boot, and that is when everything went to hell
All of these stock ROMs are getting stuck on the Vibrant screen when dealing with recovery. Does this happen if you use the updated 3e recovery?

Looking for some help with my ROM

I made a ROM from XWJS3 on samfirmware.com. I put everything on it and triple checked everything. Everytime I try to flash it, when booting it just stays at the galaxy S animation and vibrates 3 times over and over.
Anyone know what causes that?

I would stop using the one click odin now. If you're on Continuum 5, you have the full version of odin. Use that with a jh7.tar in the pda slot to go back to stock 2.1. That way you won't have to worry. The one floating around here doesn't have bootloaders. Don't mess with bootloaders unless you have to.

IF NOT flash 3button fix. - it only has 2nd bootloader. YOU NEED THE PRIMARY FROM ONE CLICK

Umm... Dude... calm down. I don't give advice without testing first.
1. You can use the i9000 gingerbread bootloaders in froyo. I tried Continuum and a few i9000 gingerbread roms last night. Now I'm back on 2.2 kb1 rom because I was just testing. STILL USING THE SAME BOOTLOADERS!!! I know because there is that annoying i9000 slash screen before the Att screen. Plus, I did not go back to stock. I just re-flashed my old rom.
2.Don't just start accusing people of things. Have you tried gingerbread? Have you gone back to stock? You should probably get your facts straight before handing out false allegations.

By what I am reading you are in fact wrong as well. If you flashed the gingerbread boot loader do not use one click. From thread:
!!!!!WARNING!!!!! DO NOT USE THIS METHOD IF YOU ALREADY UPDATED YOUR BOOTLOADERS TO i9000 GINGERBREAD ONES!!! Chances of bricking are 99% because this method flashes only secondary bootloader and the phone wont boot with primary i9000 bootloader and secondary i897 bootloader.

try quoting the WHOLE QUOTE it reads accurately, and ill add a couple words to make it read even better!
You can return to stock by using OneClickDownloader and performing a master clear.
◘BACKUP YOUR DATA BEFORE! EVERYTHING WILL BE ERASED DURING THE MASTER CLEAR PROCESS.
◘THEN MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ACCESS TO 3 BUTTON COMBO! IF NOT, RETURN TO STOCK BY USING THIS METHOD !!!!!WARNING!!!!! DO NOT USE THIS METHOD IMMEDIATELY AFTER i9000 GINGERBREAD Bootloaders!!! I don't really care man. I can follow directions too, but I can also make decisions on my own. I know for a fact you do not need to change bootloaders to go back to stock. You just can't use the primary from 2.3 and the secondary from 2.1. That will brick your phone. But whatever, I have better things to do than argue with you.

I'm just saying don't mess with bootloaders unless you have to. Our phones will boot with the i9000 bootloaders. For a noob, I think it would be better not to confuse him with "you can use this one-click, but not the other one-click because, it only contains the secondary bootloader". Thats why I suggested the jh7 with no bootloaders via the Odin that came with Continuum. Plus, later when the gingerbread roms get more polished, he can go back with minimal hassle.

How to unroot my verizon tab

Alright guys i have searched and tried and tried. Currently i am on dj11 with kernal version stated as 2.6.32.9 and right below it has [email protected]#3. I am on 2.2
So what ive tried:
-I used heimdall to flash back to stock but as you can see the kernal version says im still rooted although superuser app is not installed. This causes the update to fail
-I tried to use superoneclick method to unroot but it does not work
What i want is to be stock with no root and be able to update. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
FYI i also used all the thread procedures on the forum (gizmo ninja and how to unbrick tab)

Don't know what the problem could be. That has always worked for me. If you go to the "System-- About Device-- System Updates" does it give you the option to update? When I have restocked mine and set up a wireless connection it always tries to download and install the update.

I don't know what to do. If it were me I would go ahead and grab the EC02 update from here: http://www.blackmugmedia.com/Android/GT/Mirror/Roms/CDMA/Recovery to Stock /
Flash that. You will have the latest official release, or you could get the VZW Leaked Gingerbread release from the Developers section. (That is what I am running on my VZW tab).
Maybe if you flashed the EC02 update and then used the going back to stock instructions it would unroot you. I have always unrooted using that rom and directions when I wanted to start fresh from a custom rom that didn't quite work like I wanted it to work.

There is a unrooted version of Gingerbread that you can flash with Odin:
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/...w-sprint-2-3-4-ef01-rooted-updated8-15-a.html
I haven't used Odin, but if you are familiar with it you might have luck with this. I think you use 7zip to extract and then use the resulting md5 file in the One Package location. You might want to look there and get that file.

Unzip the .md5 file with 7zip, you will get an error about no proper ending or something. Take your zimage, cache, param, dbdata, factoryfs, recovery.bin and place them in the proper locations in Heimdall. Flash your tab and let it boot up.
You should have a fully functional gingerbread without root.
I just did it on my tab.

Or i spent so much time doing this i think im attached now hahaha
Glad it worked the way you wanted. I went back to the rooted version of Gingerbread. Everything works the way I want it to so no reason to change (for now anyway).

Stock boot.img and recovery.img

Just in case someone needs this here are stock
recovery.img and stock boot.img.
Both have been tested and working fine.
I used heimdall to flash them few times but I think it should work with ODIN as well.
Haven't tested it with ODIN tho.
If you gonna use heimdall here is the galaxy4.pit file.
So if something goes south you can flash back to stock again.
I had to do that many times yesterday as I was testing recoveries made by Shabbypenguin and kernels that I was trying to build.
Wow Agat you are a human machine, are you sure you aint half android and the other half human?

I pulled them from my phone Saturday.
It's stock. And pulling them is not that hard.
I had to upgrade my heimdall to pull the pit file tho.
But those files came really handy throught the weekend.
Had to use them many, many times.
Just an FYI - We have these and a ROM dump also up on rwilco12.com.
Just don't have a stock version yet.

I used qbking77's UTube video to root and it went ok but I really would like to unroot and I have no idea how to do this. Is there a simple way to unroot? The reason I am unrooting is that I know nothing about rooting and should have waited until I researched and understood it's benefits and without knowing this I should have not rooted and want to go back to stock but I would like a simple way to do it.

You can keep the root untill you know more about it and start using all benefits.
It won't bug you and won't brake anything on your phone.
Actually if you not using any apps that require root access you won't even notice that you are rooted.
So no worries.
I haven't look into any unrooting methods and don't even know if they exist as of now so if you want to do it you should
keep looking for it.

Check out the app SuperSU in the play store. In settings there is an option to unroot.

Heimdall version?
Agat,
which Heimdall version did you upgrade to? I have 1.4RC2 and I didn't have any luck flashing or reading the GS4 pit file with this version.

I have same version of Heimdall with Heimdall-frontend 1.4 RC1 ( I think)
Running it under Linux Mint 14 cinnamon.
I pulled the pit using this version of heimdall and heimdall frontend and I flashed boot.img and recovery.img many many times.
Did you try to dedect device first? If yes was the device detcted?
What OS you using heimdall with?

I place the phone in flash mode, and it doesn't detect the device. I used the older Heimdall to flash my GS1 many times, but it has never worked with my gs4. In fact, I can't even get usb debugging or adb to work either. I monkeyed around with udev trying to get it working, still no luck. I have Fedora17 at the moment, and I wouldn't be surprised if that had something to do with my frustrations.

Never used Fedora. So I'm not much help here.
I know I had to update my Heimdall from 1.3.2 to 1.4 to make it work with GS4.
I don't have any problems with it ever sense.
But my adb and debugginb are working as well.
So may be some missing drivers?

It was the USB cord! For whatever reason, the gs4 usb only works with the original white usb cord!?!? I didn't see that coming.

For me it's not a cable but USB port.
My laptop has 4 usb ports but my phone is recognized only when connected to one of them.
Other 3 are not recognizing phone in Linux. Only on Windows.
