[Q] Flashing to stock; Download mode? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need to flash my captivate to the stock rom, and I've followed the steps for Odin One-Click downloader (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989) ; however, odin doesn't show anything? All of the little bars are blank. My "download mode" looks like this;
Code:
Android System Recovery <2e>
Samsung Recovery Utils
- for BML -
VOL UP - up
VOL DOWN - down
POWER - select item
reboot system now
reinstall all packages
delete all user data
delete cache data

I did a a google images search, and what I have doesn't look like download mode. What do I do now?
EDIT 3: Tried redoing the whole process again while having odin running first, working now. Possible to have this thread deleted?
EDIT 2: Download mode is still on, Odin told me that it failed the install, now phone is stuck in download mode and i'm scared to do anything to it :x Help?
EDIT: Tried the 3rd method, worked like a charm, now says

[Q] Just some newbie questions

Hello,
I know, that professionals usually don't like these questions but I really want to know sth:
I recently installed Froyo 2.2.1 with Kies Reg Patcher and it works GREAT! The only thing that matters is the old RFS file System.
So I decided to install the Voodoo lagfix.
I put the update.zip in my root/sdcard and tried the following:
1. I started the DOWNLOAD Mode - but only the yellow shield appeared - nothing happened as expected (maybe nothing to download?)
2. I started the RECOVERY Mode and selected "Apply update.zip". ==> It was telling me after 2 seconds "Error ... unsigned ..."
==> I knew this is caused by the new recovery assistent. After all I rebootet my phone and every thing works like it was before.
Now the questions:
1. Is my system unchanged? I mean has the update.zip file copied some files until it aborded?
2. Is it bad when I turn my phone in Download mode? I mean it didn't flash/download anything - so does it really damage my phone when I press the power key 5 sec and restart my phone (ONLY IN THIS SITUATION - I know that pressing it during an update process/by appearance of the status bar can damage the phone).
Please give me some answears!
PS: By the way, on woodoo-project.org it is written that the update.zip mode "...works with clockworkmod" - what is this for a mod? I googled but I only found variations about it - not a documentation and their website seems o be down.
Has this mod automatically been installed before the "Unsigned Error" came?
LG,
Dennis
In order to have your phone lag fixed, you need to root the phone (root: complete system access of your phone).
1. In download mode the phone wont update anything on its own. You need to use odin for flashing (installing) through the computer.
2. In froyo 2.2.1 you have a 3e recovery (which only updates with signed apk's) - your update.zip file is custom hence its unsigned.
about your q's
1. Your system has not been changed as the process was aborted (no files are copied or changed)
2. Its completely safe to restart you phone in download mode if you aren't flashing anything.
Note: In order to use voodoo lagfix you need to get 2e recovery for flashing custom unsigned apk's. This can be done by using CF root method (this will root your phone and also install ClockWorkMod - CWM). CWM will allow you to install the update.zip.
*For more info. just check the thread about rooting/lagfix etc. to get step by step instructions.
Thank You very much! Now I get it!

Problem with Clockworkmod

Hello, i have the galaxy tab 3G with froyo. Ive rooted the tab and installed rom manager and the recovery (for t-mobile)
When i restart the tab (with POWER and Volume+) then it appears this text on the screen:
Code:
update media, please wait
update media, finished
# MANUAL MODE #
update application, please wait
Then i wait 5 Minutes. It appears more text (blue and yellow)
Code:
[COLOR="Yellow"]-- Appling Muti-CSC...
Installing Muti-CSC[/COLOR]
Code:
[COLOR="blue"]Android system recovery <3e>
Samsung Recovery Utils
- for BML -
Enter: Home Key, Select : Vol Up / Vol Down
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition

Can somebody explain me, what i have done wrong by rooting or installing the recovery of rom-manager ?
And what does the yellow and blue text exacly mean?
You're seeing the stock recovery, not CWM. You'll need to try the CWM recovery and kernel flash again.
Best not to rely on Rom Manager, as it doesn't always seem to work on our Tabs. Get the specific kernel/recovery you're wanting and flash via Odin or Heimdall.

[Q] Please your help!

Please , I need your help!
My Samsung Galaxy Tab 7'' after downgrade from 4.0.4 Ice cream sandwich to 2.4.3 Gingerbread version of android stuck on samsung logo and I see the below message during the flashing:
-Updating application
E:Failed to mount /data (Invalid argument)
E: install_application_for customer: Can't mount /data
your storage not prepared yet, please use UI menu for format and reboot actions.
Copy application failed.
What is the UI menu and how using it I can format and reboot my tablet?
The proccess that I used is:
1.open odin , check the checkboxes Re-Partition, Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time and put the .pit file on the PIT site and the .md5 on the PDA site and press start to begin the flashing after you put the tablet on the download mode (pressing together volume down and power buttons)
2.after flashing put your tablet again in download mode and this time check only Auto-Reboot and F. Reset Time and put the dbdata folder in PDA site and press again start.
3.After the second flashing put your tablet on Recovery mode (Pressing volume up and power buttons together) and choose first wipe cache and second wipe data factory reset ,choose yes to the question and choose Reboot to finish the process of flashing.
The above error message appears before the second step of this guide and as I told you before after flashing the tablet stays stack to samsung logo screen and doesn't go to the welcome screen.
If I delete all data of my tablet, can I reinstall them again, following the above guide with steps?
If yes, what is the tool to do this?
I found the solution by myself.
The solution is so easy.
As I told us before, I was remembering that when I had the same problem I had download from the internet a file and when I flashing my tab everything were done.
Searching I discover this file.
This file is: GT-P1000-CSC-SERJJ2.tar.
When you put this on the PDA site and flash your tab everything will be fine and your tab will unstuck from samsung logo screen and to go to the welcome screen to make your settings.

Who says?
Which Rom are you trying to use and what are you coming from?
If flashing ODIN for JVU Rom :
Use ODIN with PIT File
PIT File Incase you need it : LINK
Open Odin and select 512 .PIT, and put in your files for : CSC, PDA, MODEM.
Check Re-partition and don't touch any other settings.
Turn off your phone and put it in download mode by holding VOL DOWN+MENU+POWER.
Attach Phone
When you have all the files needed in ODIN, say JVU Rom for example as thats what we are using here
Click Start let it Run
Once complete you will see S logo on phone
Unplug Phone > Let it power up then Power Off > Again into Download mode
Then plug in Phone
Click Reset on ODIN then in PDA put in CF-Root Kernel File for JVU to be Rooted *File is included in ODIN Files*
Same again when you see S Logo on Phone unplug Phone Cable
Close ODIN
Let phone boot up ....
What I do now is go into
Settings > SD Card and Storage > Unmount SD and Wipe that and then at the bottom Wipe Format USB Storage
Before doing this make sure you have what you need from the phone as it will ERASE everything!
Enable USB Debugging by going to Settings > Applications > Development > Check USB Debugging
Plug in Phone and copy over your chosen Custom ROM that you want
Reboot into Recovery : VOL UP + MENU + POWER
Wipe the 4 things (probably know these... you should do)
If not you choose these by using the left side keys on the phone and to apply changes click Menu key
WIPE : data/factory reset > cache partition
Scroll down and go to advanced
Dalvik Cache > Battery stats
Go Back
Install ZIP (ROM) from Zip Card
Reboot Phone when complete... DONE!
Hope this helps a lot of people if not just ask here if you are still having issues to save peole posting same questions again and again
I made up the first part, but after the phone went into recovery mode
The screen shows the following:

Helpppp
I have exactly the same problem. I had froyo 2.2 im new to this odin all these settings. Yesterday i was tried rooting my phone and I did. but after I mounted a courrupted rom from the recovery. and my android doesn't want to load. I followed the same instructions you just gave him. on these posts but now when i turn on the phone its the logo comes and nothing loads. Only Downloading VOL DWN + MENU + PW is working.
Are you talking to me devildrake? No, your problem is different and you need to flash the rom again too, not just dbdata lol. Do this.
Flash Gingerbread, in Odin (I always used JW4 but JVU will be fine) with 512 pit file and repartition checked. Untick reboot. Once its finished, unplug the USB cable and take the battery out. Put the battery back in and boot into download mode. Reset Odin. USB cable back in. Tick reboot again. Put dbdata.rfs in PDA. Flash.
Should boot into gingerbread. I've done this a LOT of times... Then you can go back to Odin and root.
If that doesn't work then I'd download a different version of GB, download new 512 pit, and download a new dbdata.rfs. Must be one of those corrupt.

Boot into Recovery which is not working, no download mode, normal boot

Hi Guys,
I really need some help. I did few things with my phone because I had some problems with rooting. My phone was rooted, but I was getting some messages that something is wrong.
The Superuser was not there and when I used "Rom Checker" I've got a messages that my root is not working properly. Because of that I couldn't go to recovery mode to upgrade my Rom. I used "Kingo ROOT" to root my phone. After this, I went to recovery mode using "Rom Manager" application, but when I've got there I was only able to use Vol UP / Vol Down to select, but I was not able to confirm for selection with Power Button (it means I'm not able to select anything.
When I try to go to the "download Mode" or to come back to normal boot it always comes to Android system recovery <3e>, and I cannot do anything to change it.
On the screen in the middle with yellow letters, I have the message:
--Copying media files...
Successfully copied meida files.
# MANUAL MODE #
--Appling Multi-CSC...
Installing Multi-CSC
Can't access to '/system/csc/TMB/system/ '.
Successfully applied multi-CSC.
What can I do to fix this problem? Please, Can someone help me?
Thank you in advance for any help.
IS THERE ANYBODY WHO CAN HELP ME !!!!!
I Just Need Someone To Help Me To Get Back To Normal Mode or To Get To Restore (working !!!!) Mode
