[Q] Proper Gapps Flashing? - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I'm running super E at the moment, really fast but no market.
I tried both BiffModGapps and gapps-mdpi-tiny-20100814-signed.
Is there another way to get the market onto my phone, or is there a special procedure for flashing gapps?
Thanks in advance.

BiffMod is a froyo rom and tiny are gapps or google addons for froyo only, super E is an eclair rom and i think gapps are included in the rom so you dont need to flashe them separately. do a wipe and flash it again or (if you are lazy) just wipe cache and dalvik and get the gapps here, put them on sdcard and flash from recovery of course...

[Q] TeamHeroC2.3.7 No market, some gapps

My current ROM is jaybob's CM6.2 w/ firerat and using Darchstar's RA recovery 1.7. heroc is s-on.
Removed firerats and tried flashing TeamHeroC-2.3.7-22OCT.zip plus several gapps but cannot get Market to show up in the app drawer. Car home, talk and books sometimes show up. They all flash ok but market does not show up in the app drawer. I've tried to the following gapps each time wiping cache, dalvik+factory reset:
From CM7
gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip
gapps-gb-20110325-signed.zip
gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
From OMFGB thread
lithid-gapps-0504-signed.zip
GAPPS.zip
From Hero deck thread
gapps-hero-20110522.zip
I would post in the android dev section but cannot since my post count is < 10. I've gotten by in the past by searching and reading threads but this issue I can't resolve. Any help is much appreciated!
Hi
U may have to either update ur recovery or try ROM manager recovery, then factory reset, wipe all, then under under recovery format everything except the SD card stuff under mounts abd storage...then
reflash ROM by itself. While there sync ur account, then flash the gapps. The hero deck gapps with voicemail worked for me.
I hope it works.

Agreed, it sounds like a recovery issue. I'd flash a CWM recovery and see if that fixes things.

In order to get rid of Firerat's you have to either flash a new recovery and then format/wipe boot, system, data, and cache (you can use Rom Manager or just find one to flash from recovery) or you need to use the Firerat's removal tool and then do all of the format/wiping in order to really get rid of firerat's. Any of those gapps should work though as I believe they are all universal GB gapps. I use Jaybob's with some 6/13 gapps.
thanks guys! resolved it by flashing cwm2.5.0.7 and wiping everything.

Upgrading cm 7.2 to cm9

Hi everyone,
Newbie posting here.. I've had my share of flashing Roms a few times (say 4 or 5 times) but i stuck with cm 7.2 when they released the stable mod for the i9000.
Now i see that the cm9 stable mod has been released and i definitely want to try that out however, I'm not sure on how to go about it and I don't want to do anything stupid. Don't get me wrong, i've tried reading around through different sites and forums but all the mix and match methods of flashing and installing has gotten me confused..
My main question is, how do i flash to cm9 from cm 7.2? naturally i have cwm installed and can boot into cwm recovery. Am on the XXJVK baseband with the pawitp kernel. Not sure if i have to donwload new drivers (since the base ROM is going to change)...
Do i just place the zip file for the cm9 mod in the internal sd storage? could you guys help me out and let me know if this process is correct:
1) save zip file in internal storage (both cm9 and gapps)
2) do a nandroid backup
3) boot into recovery
4) wipe data and dalvik cache
5) install the package
6) wipe data and dalvik cache
7) install gapps
8) reboot
Once it boots up, i'm assuming it'll be running cm9 already.. could you guys help me out and let me know if this procedure's correct? sorry for the noob question but i'd rather just make sure and ask you guys first.
thanks in advance guys! cheers and more power!

wipe date
wipe cache
wipe delvik cache
then flash rom nd gapps
wipe cache nd delvik cache again.. good luck..
Best and most reliable way to do this is flashing through stock rom via Odin. Then flashing kernel with CWM Recovery via Odin. And only then flash CM9 via CWM.
thanks for the quick reply guys. will try it out tonight and update this post. hope all goes well.
cheers!

and if u want u can try chimera rom from team passion.. it s combination of cm9 and AOKP.. It s stable and fast..
took me less than 10 minutes to flash to cm9 and it's as snappy as i thought it was. now to fix up everything and check if everything's okay.
so far, wifi and network signal are working fine and dandy. might just have a go at that chimera rom.

Since you are on Hydracore it is safe to wipe. But just to be sure just take a nandroid backup, by Booting in to recovery
Selecet Backup & restore--> Select Backup & do a nandroid backup Then just follow the installation procedure below
Keep both the ROM & Gapps file on your SD card
Wipe data / factory reset
Wipe Cache Partition
Go to Advanced - > Wipe Dalvik Cache
Select Install Zip from SD Card--> Select either internal card or SD card (external sd ) based on where you kept the file-->Install the zip file of the ROM
Same way Select & install the Gapps package
Go Back & wipe Cache Partion & Dalvik Cache once again
Reboot & you are Paranoid...:good:
the best advice I can just offer you is to go to the respective Paranoid Android ROM thread and post this question there. There many people there as well willing to help you. Or you can wait for someone who has PA already on their device and perhaps they can give you some nice info on how to go about installing PA on your phone.
sorry, I can't do much help on you as I'm not using JB for now.
You can flash any custom rom if you are on safe kernel, hydracore is safe and you can simply boot into cwm recovery and flash the rom zip followed by gapps.
Help i am stuck on the PA logo

Yes you need to factory reset when coming from another rom that is not aosp based, i.e stock gb/ics.

I think you need to read instructions to the point before carrying them out. I had posted you the method for installation of PA which so far as I know is the correct one coming from any non AOSP based ROM. Pls. do follow the instructions. In case you are in doubt just ask for a reconfirmation.
Also any ROM developer will have the instructions posted in the OP thread, which you should definitely follow.
As others have told you, do a full wipe coming from a non AOSP based ROM..
By the Way if your problem is solved just change the OP title to Solved..
In regards to doing a full wipe: When doing the same process a couple of weeks back, coming from a stock ICS rom to PA i read you need to do a full wipe.
google brought me to this page: http://checkrom.com/threads/full-wipe-the-correct-way.432/
do you guys consider wipe/factory reset to be sufficient or is it a good idea to do this manual format of the /system/ /data/ and /cache/ partitions as per the above guide?
I was in a bit of doubt on that one at the time, so i did it anyway to be on the safe side and it all worked fine.
Paranoid android
Hey
Someone can tell me what's the difference between the Paranoid rom from Imilka (PARANOIDANDROID 2.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797698) and the Paranoid rom from Utacka (PARANOIDANDROID 2.15 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871713)????
To be sure
OK, just to be sure I want to make everything straight... So if a have Hydracore kernel and a non-AOSP rom (for example ClassicRom V5) I can flash ParanoidAndroid? Even without AOSP rom? Just having Hydracore kernel and non-AOSP rom I can install ParanoidAndroid safely? I just have to do a Full wipe, then flash paranoid, flash Gapps, wipe cache and dalvik and reboot and thats it? Thanks in advance for the answer

CM 7.2 to Stock, how to?!

Hi Everyone!
I want to go back to Stock 2.3.6 rom from CyanogenMod 7.2, it is the official from vo-1.
What should I do ?
Simply flash a stock rom via Odin ? Is it need to be full package rom or one package is good too?
Do I have to do a full wipe before or after flashing?
It would be good to have a step by step answer.
Thanks!

One package is enaugh.
Flash any stock rom via ODIN
After flash is finish, go in recovery and hit wipe data/ wipe cache (without it u will have bootloop).
Thats it

I think if you are flashing with ODIN, just go into Download mode, without wiping. If after flashing with ODIN you get caught in a boot loop, go to recovery and wipe factory reset. Hope it helped.

I think gapps are installed in /system so if you wipe system, cache, and dalvik, then reflash the ROM and the inverted gapps, I think that would do it without having to wipe out data.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
I might test this out later today if I have time.
Sent from my Droid 4 - LiquidSmooth
i think we are on a different page. im running liquid with the regular white gapps. iv got my rom all set up with themed holo apps (some).
but if i flash the inverted gapps like the directions say, wont i be starting complety over?
or is there a way to flash the inverted gapps to replace the regular gapps without starting all over?
Links are down? Where do I go?
