I currently have the exact same issue.
It would be helpful if anyone has any ideas? Otherwise I think some of the SGS's may be developing faults for some unknown reason.
No device is listed under device manager, and when trying to change the USB connection type whilst the phone is connected it let's you do it, instead of giving the usual message about the USB being connected, which to me eliminates any driver issues.
I have tried two different cables to no avail.
I would try pulling down the device logs but is this possible on a non-rooted phone?
i'm running stock JF3 Vodafone firmware.
Cheers,
MiG
so think it may be a trip to service centre once froyo has been released as im running froyo already and dont think it would go down to well surely someone has an idea what the problem is cheers wattsy

If you have a USB cable handy, run/download the Terminal Emulator from Android market, and run the following command: 'logcat'.
After this plug in your USB cable, and see what appears on screen. I don't have my cable with me right now but will try later to see if any attempt at data is made/lost/failed etc.
tried it its currently saying "unable to open log device '/dev/log/main': permission denied im running unrooted jpk 2.2 cheers mig wattsy

Might be an issue with Froyo. Check to see if USB Debugging is enabled in Settings > Applications > Development, although I don't think this is required. I'll have a look later with my own phone if not.
treid both ticked/unticked usb debugging still look forward to your results when ur home. its a shame not even odin will flash a kernel or anything its defo the phone as i tried another on both machines and that works fine cheers mig wattsy

Not entirely sure what it all means but from what I can gather, it seems the USB interface can't get a response?

I think the USB is kaplunked. On trying the AC adapter I get the exact same response through logcat and the plug-type doesn't change. Also, this message concerns me slightly:
Code:
E/MTPRx ( 6175): Not of USB charging. Dont lauch MTP APP
This is saying that the cable plugged in is not USB? Thinking it is on AC?
It could be a firmware issue but I would hazard a guess that the hardware is faulty and reporting the wrong the thing to android.
I'll be taking my phone for repair tomorrow,
Suprised nobody else has got any answers regarding this
Cheers,
MiG
will take mine over too but dont think i should untill froyo is released does me having froyo void my warrenty? if it does then i will wait till its released and send it then if i take it too my local service centre how long will they have my fone for do you think will have to wait as cant flash eclair back without usb lol cheers wattsy1612
Can any of u guys create a script to re-enable the usb interface cheers wattsy
*update so called samsung and was told that this 100% a hardware issue they told me to take it straight to my local service centre for an instant replacement will give another update when i return cheers wattsy
Same problem
I am having the same problem with persistent unknown device. i was also thinking of taking it back to samsung service station. i did once, but the person told me that this is due to humidity. i seriously doubt the intelligence of these people. have you received your sgs back? and is it working?
mine has gone for repair managed to find a way to connect usb and flash with odin the only way to fix this is to send it off will let you know when mines back also mig managed to get his working he just deleted everything off of the internal phone memory that he didnt need restarted the f/s and reboot his was working mine was the same but it suddenly just packed up if i was you id just send it off cheers wattsy
I will be waiting for the news. i was also thinking of the same. in the mean time some food for thought, whenever i connect the device to PC, Settings>About phone>Status shows Charging by AC adopter. whenever the phone is connected to AC adapter, Settings>About phone>Status shown charging through USB. Any coments?
my problem was solved by pulling the phones usb connector slightly towards the screen side of the phone. now it is connecting seamlessly
Hi !
That's the topic I've been looking for !
Here's my story: I've got the genuine Samsung usb cable, and when I plug it between my phone and my computer, I can either choose to mount my phone as a mass storage device, or in KIES mode or .... Usual behaviour ...
In the mean time, the phone gets charged via USB power.
I bought 2 very cheap made in China data usb cable.
None of them let me enter the usb data mode. I mean, both cables can charge my phone, but I can't connect my phone to my computer for data exchange.
So I decided to dismantle one of my cheap data cable. Wiring seems correct, and exactly the same as my genuine Samasung data cable.
Then I decided to slighlty rework the micro usb plug on my cheap data cable with a sharp cutter.
And I discovered something interesting: depending on how I insert the cable in my phone, I sometimes get access to the data exchange mode.
For instance, if I fully insert the cable straight into the phone, it only charges the phone.
But if I partly insert the cable, I the get access to the data mode. And if I want to enter the mass storage mode, I then have to completely insert the cable into the phone for the phone to be properly detected by the computer.
Odd isn't it ?
Does anyone could explain me how the phone detects if it is connected to a charger or to a real data usb cable ?
I've been reading a bit of Android documentation but didn't find anything.
developer.android.com/reference/android/os/BatteryManager.html#BatteryManager%28%29
By the way, when I run logcat from my phone, I get different kinds of message, depending on how I insert my cable:
D/WifiService( 2707): ACTION_BATTERY_CHANGED pluggedType: 1
Or
D/WifiService( 2707): ACTION_BATTERY_CHANGED pluggedType: 2
As far as I understood, 1 means AC plugged and 2 means USB plugged
my USB Port is a little bit bricked , too.
Kies and Windows just detects the phone after rebooting the phone. after a while mtp-app is beeing launched, but windows don't recognize the phone...
hope the next firmware update will work !
I have a Samsung GT-I9000B and I cant use it using USB.

I have been trying to resolve my AS Not Connected for a long time, over 1 year. I have tried all know recommendation/solutions to no avail. Have read that FixASRunAT will fix the problem. Go to: http://www.cs.pitt.edu/~jmisurda/ppc/FixASRunAt.zip I downloaded it last night and will try reconnect tomorrow as I am out of town and cannot try AS now. iWill report back the results. If this works for you, let us know. Wish you luck as I need it, too.

Mine will charge No Prob with both PC/USB Cable and Standard charger,PC takes FOREVER,It recongnizes a Smart Phone on both XP and Windows 7 but then says Not Installed correctly,No Drivers, ect. It has to be a Hardware issue with the Port or something,In "Comm Manager" there is always a "Check" Mark through the Activesync Selection,no way to get it to "enable" on the Phone Screen....Phone is not worth enough to hassle fixing it,it works fine,I have to use another phone to put stuff on my storage card, can I load windows 6.5 and unlock with the SD Card method? Thanks,Vegas

hi guys first of all sorry for this subject name but im really pissed off, so pissed i could kill sum1 seriously... i bought this friggin ppc like 2 years soon, and of all that 2 years i've been using it for half a year in total... first problem was lcd missaligned, than soon started USB problems.. managed to repair LCD (changed it completely) but now the USB problem remains and im friggin tired dead of all this mess... i don't have a clue what to do anymore.. so, cignular 8125, G3 series... molski 2.26.10.2 AKU 2.3 rom on it... problems now: it boots up after 2-3 minutes.. than the worst problem is that USB cant sync with pc... i tried plugging in motherboard usb on pc,. than tried to get even a 2nd PCI usb card and always the same problem.. when i connect pc via usb cable to ppc, i see ballon saying: usb found, generic rndis, PocketPC mobile based bla bla bla and after few secs i get usb hardware might not work properly, error ocured.. and that happens all the time, i even get sometimes on PPC a screen saying USB> connecting to host (cancel, hide) and it freezes there... so, after this mess i send ppc to a service guy that changed me the USB plug on ppc (as u guys said it could solve the problem http://tinyurl.com/3xvj4m ) so he changed it and im stuck again on this friggin ppc... goddamn %&/()= i wish i was never so stupid to buy this piece of machinery, after only half a year it bricked down and now i'm only loosing my mind... anyway... can anyone make this for me http://tinyurl.com/2ku6lw copy his rom on sd card and send me that copy of sd card over mail or put it on ftp? Any other thing doesnt help me, even in bootload mode it says USB in left corner on ppc, but again pc says usb not recognized and again it wont get connected (so no RUU update)... guys, im seriously desperate.... btw, anyone knows sum1 in eastern or central europe a person or service capable to fix this....? the ppc i got it from usa, but im in eastern europe.. thanks and i hope u will understand my nervouse..
did u allready try to connect with other pcs? i had problems like this when 1.) i do not switch off internal firewall, ashampoo, didn't have this problem with sygate personal 2.) i had software installed, called PLV - Manager , has something to do with my work..^^, which connects via Serial port and somehow does also block usb ports.
well yea i tried other pcs, but maybe the firewall is the key and some other programs... i'll see this weekend... any1 suggestion for a service guy who can manage to repair the ppc in case i fail? thx
usb not work cant flash by SD, charging only when off
Hello, Firstly I want excuse that I open new threat and open it here, but please let me explain it why I do it. I have O2 Stellar, with SPL:1.82.0000 and my USB dont work, and USB connector is OK and cable or USB port too. I try it at diferent PCs with diferent systems aka XP, Vista. Main problem is that USB dont sync with ActiveSync or other, no "Tada sound" dont show "not recognize" really nothing action when I plug it to USB. And charging is work only when PDA is off and light RED LIGHT but when is off, than no action, no light, no charging. I know that this is threat for "Kaiser General" but I can live with charging only when is off, but I cant live withou coocked ROMs, I really try use all HardSPL new Radios, NBH from shippedroms copy to SDcard (Formatted to FAT32) and it only show "LOADING..." but nothing, more, still Loading. I was tryed JumpSPL but it dont flash from SDcard, and USB is not showing and not working, that I cant use MTTY. Please let this threat open, I really need HELP Do someone know if this is Hardware or Sofware problem? I cant send it to service, from my country is too expensive (like new phone) Thank you in advance Jozef Ziak Edit: The handsfree is working perfect, I really dont know what is it.
i have the same problem i been through three phones already 1 that i used roms on and two brand new ones from warranty att said it's a hardware issue".they are sending me another phone.
I had almost a similar problem with my tilt at one point. Check your usb to pc settings and make sure you have "advance connection" (or something similar I can't remember exactly what it says) checked. On the rom I am using now shows something different there. I says "enable faster data sync" "uncheck if activesync doesn't recognize the device"
Thank you, but nothing reconize my PDA, no sound after plug, nothing when I go manualy to Bootloader, only show serial, not USB
same problem Hi, I had the same problem. I tried everything but nothing helped. I had 2 more months of warranty so they changed the main panel. After I got it back from the service it was working for 3 weeks long and now again died with the same issue. Strange. I have to send it back to the service.
HI there , I had the same problem for about 4 month but i solved it >>> how ? Just clean your htc USB port and check if it is broken or not and you will see that your issue will be solved brother
[Q] Tilt Issue! No USB connection, no chance of flashing or anything else!
Hi all! I've bought an HTC AT&T Tilt recently but it really turned out to be not so good of a deal. First of all if the phone is turned on the USB just doesn't work. I mean no charging, no connection to PC etc. If it's off it charges normally. At first i thought that it's a hardware issue and I just gave away money for nothing. After I started playing with it I noticed a few things. I ran Android through Haret and the USB works magnificently. Charging, connectivity and so on. When I switch to WinMo - bump. I tried 3 different comps and 4 different cables but still nothing. Read some threads here and there but as far as I could tell I still need USB connection to flash the device. So no HardSPL as far as I know. The USB port on the device is in perfect condition(at least to my knowledge). I cant's even use the phone because it's AT&T network locked and to unlock it I would still need USB connectivity! If anyone has an idea how I can flash completely via MicroSD or anything else I'd be really thankful. Thanks in advance! I forgot to write current sw versions: R 1.65.21.18 G 25.88.40.05h D 3.57.00.00 And at bootloader: KAIS1*0 SPL-3.56.0000 CPLD-8
[Q] Problem with detection
My pc says unknown device when i plug my phone in. The only way it may work is to connect my phone when is discharged, then my pc will recognize it. I want it to work everytime ... I use Windows Phone 7.8 DeepShining . So, there is any way to make it work like a normal phone? :-s Oh, another problem is when i try logging in with Zune, it says something about Region. I've set it like the same on my phone, but still doesn't work. Sorry for bad english...
Problem with detection Hi, i have the same problem, did you solve it? thanks
Poor you, sorry... But your problem is a PID 0000 VID 0000 That's a burned/erased device rom (the communication card rom), your only choice is to replace it, it cost around $25-$35. Good luck
Similar problem I also have connection issues on XP. With Zune the phone is fully visible but the bootloader doesn't switches to USB when connected. With Active Sync it does but the phone doesn't actually connect, AS doesn't detect it, the icon stays gray and the search in the settings fails. When i try to run a ROMUpdateUtility i get Error 264 Connection. I didn't dared running Zune and AS at the same time. Can i do something else?
