[Q] Can I get caller ID without paying for it? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to get Caller ID from your own Contact list instead of what
the Carrier's provide?
Paying for Caller ID seems like such a waste of money ...
Anyone know of an app, or an innate ability on the SGS that allows it to display
names from your contact list with corresponding numbers?

that is a network operator feature
so i don't think you can, unless you know how to hack into your phone account at the operator server to enable all those features for free without showing up as added feature in your invoice
LOL

woah, people PAY for caller ID? what next, paying for phones?

Hmmm, I wonder if there is an app like Saymyname, but it instead overlaps incoming
call screen with names/nicknames from your contact list...

Wow. I didn't know anyone had to pay for Caller ID.

If your mobile network provider charges for caller ID, you should speak to your consumer affairs office, especially if they aren't a "budget" mobile provider.
Because as a customer, you have a reasonable expectation that Caller ID should be offered for free (because it costs the mobile provider NOTHING).

unfortunately in Canada it has never worked out like that, all phone carriers are charging for the "feature"
even for land line they charge $5/mth
same for cell phones
it was on the news, in the recent International survey about cell phones Canada has the Most Expensive services, for the least feature, and the Worse Service world wide, and that is only for the voice part of it, the story is even worse on Data side of the service.

Actually when I lived in Canada my phone plan wasn't too bad...but TBH mobile phone service in Australia is much better.
However, although there are many upsides to Australia (including mobile phone service) there are plenty of downsides as well.
I will say though, reception with Rogers seemed to better for 3G service inside buildings than it is with Vodafone AU, although I'm getting much more bang for the buck here...even with the high AUD, mobile phone service is pretty much the only thing here that seems to be cheaper compared to Canada.

I'm with Rogers and I get the following:
500 Min day.
Free after 6pm and weekends.
Incoming calls free.
Rogers to Rogers free.
2500 out going text and unlimited incoming.
Caller ID, 3 way calling, call forwarding, VM.
6 Gig's of Data with teathering.
All for $48 including tax and all. You telling me you getting a better deal with Vodafone AU? I doubt it!

when i lived in the USA i got way better deals than what we got here in Canada
Caller ID + voice mail were standard features even for the least expensive package

Yeah...much better.
Basically this is what I have
Unlimited national calling (mobiles, land lines, 1300, 1800, 13 etc) no prem numbers but includes 3G video calling (which the galaxy S has a front facing camera)
Unlimited international/national sms/mms
caller id
voicemail
Confrence calling (I'm not sure what the max is, but I've had more than 4 people on one call)
Call forwarding
3GB of data with tetheringe
$99 AUD a month....although the AUD is quite high right now. I use up quite a bit of min as this is my primary phone.
Not to mention at the time I got a free brand new unlocked iphone 3GS (almost a year ago) on a 2 year contract which I resold...for quite a bit. But if we subtract from my costs it's drops my actual spending to around $50 AUD/mo
Then I use skype to go (since I get unlimited national calling) for $30/yr and get unlimited north american calling
But all in all my bill comes out to be $99/mo + $2.5 = $101.5/mo for well unlimited calling to Australia and North America...pretty sweet IMO.
Hell if you don't need the international text you can go with optus or virgin mobile and get even better deals (less money, more stuff!)
Essentially this isn't even a 'retentions' plan which is what I was on in Canada, this is a plan any one can sign up for.

I was thinking of going with the Student plan (being a university student and all)
but after seeing that... wtf...
I txt more than I call so your described plan is just awesome for my needs.
Any idea how I could manage to get such a plan for that price ?

my guess, he got it grand fathered from previous promos that are no longer available
i'm on something similar with Fido, for 2 phones only paying $100 + change, tax, and usual crap fees

Damn and all this time I thought AU had one of the worst deals for mobile plans. I was thinking of migrating to Canada too.. Dannggg

Why would you migrate to Canada?
Cons:
I mean if you are not in Sydney/Melbourne, for the most part Canada has better food, but the weather is worse, pay way is worse, taxes are higher, lifestyle is more work hard, play lesss mentality, health care system is far less efficient.
Pros to Canada:
Government is better, overall cost of living is cheaper, many things are cheaper, resturants are way better, huge push towards post secondary education (huge thing IMO), not nearly as many drunk people at 9 am on a tuesday p)
I moved from Canada to Australia, Although there are many Cons to Australia, I figure if you live in Melb/Syd then many of major cons are avoided.

Sorry, forgot to add quotes, this is in response to rmanaudio's Rogers plan post.
I find this plan incredibly hard to believe.
Didn't Rogers/Bell just introduce the 6gb plans? Like a couple of months ago? Cheapest just for data is $30, which would mean the rest he would have to get for $10-12.
Maybe its true, but I have a great corporate plan with bell that rogers corporate said was impossible to match:
For $52.00 BEFORE tax, I get:
250 daytime minutes
6pm - 8am weekdays free
Weekends free
Unlimited incoming minutes
Unlimited texting
Call display
Call Waiting
Call Forwarding
Conference Calling
Voicemail
Detailed Billing
6gb Data with tethering
($22.00 for the voice/text stuff, $30.00 for the data = $52.00+ tax)

I'd still say complain to your local consumer affairs board. If enough people complain, they might be required to make caller ID free (which it should be)

This rarely works. If it does they'll just increase the cost of the plan to offset any loss a ruling would cause them.

Kaiser UK User to Canadian User - Best Carrier and Plan

I am a heavy data and call user within the uk. I have just moved to canada and wonderedd what would be the best value price plan and carrier to support my heavy data and call useage I would say in total i Use up to 600 - 1000 minutes a month and need an unlimited data plan for web browsing and exchange mail downloading!! Any similar usersgot any carriers/price plans they can recommend? Prefereably I would like only a 12 month contract. I am tempted to buy the Raphael and just use a Canadian Sim - is this possible?
In addition any advice on the best pay as you go carrier (Sim only) which has minimal call and data useage - for the girlfriend??
Finally - will call cards work fine on my mobile so i can call the uk for minimal cost???
Thank you
I can't speak to the exact data plans cause they seem to change all the time. I can tell you that without a contract I pay $15CDN/month for 2MB of data on Rogers. If you sign a new 3 year contract the reps claim you can get the iPhone data plan (https://www.rogers.com/web/content/wireless-plans/iphone_adpacks) which allows for 6GBs of data for 30$. Otherwise the rates are ridiculous (6GBs/100$)up here. I don't believe there is an unlimited data plan on any of the providers (I could be wrong though).
The main 4 Canadian Providers
Rogers
Fido (which is owned by Rogers)
Bell
Telus
There are other smaller providers too
Virgin
Koodo (Telus)
Good luck
Ooops....
nothing to see here.
If only I read stuff before I posted....
wireless plans
i am on rogers (GSM carrier), using an unlocked TyTN II
I signed up for the 300MB/$30 data plan (not just for iphones) which is available separately from voice plans. It is a month to month so you do not need a 3-year term for it as you do for the 6Gig plan.
there is no unlimited usage data plan in canada, i have a 1500 minute voice plan for 150$ which also gives weekends and after 6pm free. I pay $10 for unlimited incoming calls as well.
you may want to check on that 6GB/$30 plan as i think it might only be available until end of august, but YMMV
that said there are a number of decent options, i don't find the prices too crazy anymore (i used to pay $60/30MB until this new pricing)... 500MB/$50 is not too outrageous is it? 500MB is a lot to pull on a phone.
virgin has a pretty good pay as you go but i don't think it is a sim service, not GSM?
as far as i know call cards will work fine on the cell, they don't have the restrictions like in europe. beware though you will want to unlock your phone before you bring it here, if it isn't already
95% sure your only options are rogers and fido, and if you're looking to use data then you need to jump on the 6gb plan. aside from that you can get a decent monthly plan for voice at $35

Tmo Nexus one vs At&t Nexus one

Im currently thinking about switching to at&t from tmobile.
One reason is my work gets a 22% discount the at&t vrs 12% at Tmo.
Also with taxes and unlimited everything im paying about a hundred which is kind of rediculous. (Without my discount)
Has anyone switched before and have a little more insight about data and plans between the two networks. I already know tmobile has hspa+. But will i end up paying more at at&t?
I already have someone lined up to trade my tmo nexus for a att nexus. Im just skeptical. And yes im going to pay etf fee even though i dont want too.
Help me out here people.
Att generally is more money for the same service and their coverage is not much better at least where I live
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
First of all, don't sign a contract because you're providing your own phone so you don't need to go on contract. Secondly, have you checked to make sure that T-Mobile has 3G in your area? What's your zip code?
How much etf do you have to pay? I dont think its a smart move to switch from tmo to att because of the extra 10% savings. Im pretty sure atts prices are inflated above the 10% difference. If you really wanted to save money then you can just switch your tmobile plan from your unlimited everything. If you switch your texting to google voice you can save $20 a month just from that. You can lower your minutes and start using sipdroid for your calls and have virtually unlimited free calls as long as you have decent data connection or wifi, and you can use your tmobile minutes as a backup.
So if you really wanted to get creative and still have a virtually unlimited plan you can sign up for the 500 minute plan on tmobile for $29.99, and get on the $10 web2go plan (this is the reason alone why i wont upgrade my phone for a long long time). $40 a month, and no contract.

2 questions... how do I get on web2go plan. And how do I use gvoice for texting?
pretty sure web2go is one of the old grandfathered plans the only way you have it is if you stuck with your plan and never changed it.
T-mobile just like other carriers play dirty tricks with plans to get their money back from subsidized phones.
i for example recently went the route of buying a used N1 for more than a G2 would have cost me subsidized up front because i'm on a grandfathered G1 data plan so currently i pay 55 dollars a month for 300 min 400 texts and unlimited data. i dont talk or text enough on my phone to justify more so its the cheapest thing for me to do is stick with it. if its not enough for me at some point i can upgrade to the even more whatever base plan without contract because i'm out of contract on my G1 now and it will run me 60 a month for 500 anytime unlimited text and data. had i bought a subed G2 i would have had to pay 80 a month for the same exact plan that is 60 off contract.
from what i have seen ATT is about 20 dollars more a month for the base plan that you would want on a N1 or other similar phone and as i said before in my experience at least in the SF bay area coverage is equal between t-mobile and ATT for the most part, maybe a slight edge to ATT in some places but for the most part the same.
Sprint is the only carrier that i have seen that comes close to the cost of T-mo and even with a subed phone like a EVO 4G your only looking at 70ish a month for a comparable plan but its nice staying off contract because it gives me more options in the not so distance future

I signed up just last week with tmobile and picked the $10 unlimited internet for phone option which is the same as web2go. Log into your tmobile account and go to add services, and there should be $10 unlimited mobile web for phones. Just make sure you do it before tmobile changes to the tiered plans, and set your device as being a dumbphone. Set your apn settings to internet2.voicestream.com and it will be good to go.
For google voice texting you just use the built in google voice application, or the normal contact list on your phone. It will send texts out from your google voice number. I sent one massive text out to all my contacts telling them my google voice number was my new main number. Might seem like a pain telling people a new number but after you do this it will help you out in the long run. You can setup sipdroid for free calls and all incoming and outgoing calls from your google voice number can be made without the use of any minutes if you have data/wifi. I made a step by step guide for that at this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8813244&postcount=18
I went the other way and am never going back to att!
My plan right now costs half of what att used to charge me
go tmo!
Ps: usually the discount only applies to the main line.

My Complaint Against AT&T

So I wrote this letter to the Analysts, HR, and Regional Information Guy of AT&T because I couldn't find answers elsewhere and the CSR and their supervisors were jerks and could not give me a straight rational answer.
My coworker said that he's been on Tmobile for 8 years and he finally called the CSR and asked if Tmobile could do anything for them regarding lowering their bill and such. Out of loyalty, they gave him the new plan Tmobile has released.
I called AT&T and got a straighforward I could care less if you've stayed with us for 5 years+ and even pushed me to transferring to a cancellation agent. FYI she was a real pain, she kept cutting me off.
Dear Andy Morgan, Marty Richter and AT&T Analysts
I'm writing you this email in regards to recent conversations and changes made to ATT wireless.
First off, I'd like to say that I've been a long time customer of ATT Wireless for over 5 years and I would like to continue to be one however I am not pleased with the way the Customer Service answer their customers and how difficult it is to get straightforward and legitimate answers based on real research and not some opinionated or textbook based answer.
I'm a customer who has a family plan with 4 lines, which on average pays $180/month including regulatory fees for 700minutes, an unlimited data plan, an unlimited family data plan with mobile to mobile. I'm happy with these features however, I feel that the pricing on them is too high, especially with less features.
Competitors such as T-mobile, which has recently been acquired by AT&T offers the same features with more for less. A coworker of mine recently told me that he's on a family plan with unlimited everything for 4 lines at 2x49.99 +2x15= $130 before regulatory fees and roughly $160 after rounding up.
A CSR told me that because we are getting 30$/month unlimited texting with mobile to mobile, it's better than competitors. but if Tmobile offers unlimited talk, it shouldn't matter.
The $20 difference in my bill compared to my coworkers and the features that are offered really doesn't sound fair does it? AT&T Supervisor and CSR response "We don't price match and we do things our way"
I asked about data pricing, and their response was that it was tailored to their customers. I agree that not many people need more than 2GB/month of data, but the pricing for it is $25/month. Tmobile offers unlimited with a 2GB soft cap(reduced speeds post 2GB) for $20 a month, and with they unlimited everything plan, it would be far less. I understand that data is getting expensive especially because of the growing trends of smartphones however with all these supposed "network hauls" shouldn't the pricing lower? According to the NY Times article from a year ago, cellphone data is being used more than minutes and with that, shouldn't these data plans have a fair variety that can compete with competitors rather than charging $15 for 200MB, which isn't enough for most users and $25 for 2GB, which is more than competitors.
Unlimited Family Plan (first two lines):
The first two lines are $49.99/mo. each line, totaling $99.98 per month. Each of the first two lines includes:
Unlimited data: Up to 2 GB of high-speed data (for capable devices), then reduced speeds after that. If you use up your high-speed data, we will automatically reduce your speeds for the rest of your billing cycle—so you can still connect without overages.
Unlimited talk minutes
Unlimited text
New two-year agreement
Need more lines?
Add up to 3 lines.
Get unlimited data and text, plus 500 talk minutes and unlimited nights and weekends (up to 2 GB of full-speed data per line). All this for just $15/mo. per line.
Now, on with Text messaging, according to Engadget, AT&T will be ending the $10 for 1000 text message deal. This was confirmed by an AT&T agent. How is it that you guys could end this messaging plan especially leaving customers to get the unlimited plan? According to a wireless network analysts, the consumers send an average of 664 text messages a month. With that, the average American Teen sends an average of 3339 text messages a month. Shouldn't there be variety? Not everybody text messages, and if the new implementations and pricing are tailored.
I understand that AT&T has more resources as well as more funding and is working on their HSPA+ network and LTE coming this year Q4 and because of that, require more funding to get these networks up. But, how is it that Tmobile, a smaller company can increase the coverage of their HSPA+ network to over 40 locations nationwide already, when our HSPA+ only goes up to half of what Tmobile has. I understand the backhaul as well as the need for capital to expand the network, however the ratio of benefits to price isn't exactly one to one on AT&Ts network. In 2010, a filing by AT&T regarding its SEC filing "On a reported basis, our fourth-quarter 2010 revenues were $31.4 billion, up $653 million from the fourth-quarter 2009 and full-year 2010 revenues were $124.3 billion", $31.8 billion from AT&T Mobility generated roughly 25% of the revenue AT&T made in 2010/ and how much of that revenue is being used to expand the network? Tmobile, a smaller company in the US, generated a revenue of $21.347billion and has yet been able to offer better pricing as well as stronger data networks than AT&T
Verizon, another competitor that has similar pricing to your own is able to get their LTE network to more than half of the nation's population already. The crazy thing is LTE is a GSM based technology and they're on a CDMA based network.
To my understanding, with more money, you could do more things and it'll cost a lot more, but how is it that Tmobile, the smaller company has done more things for its customer with a smaller client base than AT&T and Verizon with a larger client base do more for its customers than AT&T. It doesn't make sense to me.
AT&T supervisors and CSRs have told me that the plans that AT&T offers is tailored to customers and yet they choose to take away choices. One Supervisor said "we can't please everybody" and that's true because you can't, but it's much better to have variety than have no choices at all. Every area has a different need, such as New York vs Montana. The demand for data is higher in one area than the other and the demographics are different.
Rather than catering to a biased statistic with outliers, try to cater to a smaller demographic and you'll see more results.
AT&T CSRs are horrible too as I asked these questions and expected straightforward answers, my previous CSR told me "AT&T can charge whatever we want" and that was most arrogant and honest answer I received all day. This CSR was more than happy to get rid of me and transfer me to a Cancellation rep. So much for mutualistic loyalty and customer care.
The fact that AT&T has bought T-Mobile and decided to do away with customer support exemplifies the need for two separate GSM companies. You guys have no competition and therefore can implement unfair business to your customers.
Give me some answers as to why the prices are so high and why there is less to be offered to the customers. Cater to the customers needs and work with them to benefit their needs, not push a plan hope and hope the majority will do nothing and go along with it. Without the customers, there is no AT&T.
Sincerely, ********, an Angry Customer

It's not a grammatically correct nor is it a formal letter, but I was too busy being mad and linking citations.
I feel like I should contact the BBB or the FCC. AT&T will further neglect its customers and create plans that are aimed to make money and not to fit the general consumer. They think it tailors to the general consumer, but if they want to tailor to the majority of people, variety should be kept and they should give people the choice to choose what kind of plans that fit them.
I called the company Steel in the Air today to inquire about pricing of towers but they have yet to get back to me.
http://www.steelintheair.com/Municipalities-Building-Your-Own-Cell-Tower.html
According to their website, it costs generally 100-150k to build a tower. And I know there's much more that goes into this, but I don't know how much because AT&T CSR don't have this information in their manuals.
I hope I don't offend any AT&T lovers or AT&T employees but what that CSR said to me today really pisses me off, especially the way the supervisor who said they tailor to the customer.
I'm posting this on XDA because I wanna share with the members my experience with AT&T and reasons why we should boycott them, report them, and overall just dislike them.
I'm stuck on a two year contract with 4 lines, 3 upgradeable and 1 nonupgradeable lines and currently looking for a clause in my contract that will help me get out, because clearly AT&T doesn't care about pleasing their customers.
Um.. your kind of going to be screwed - TMobile is going to be swallowed by AT&T
I'd suggest just switching your provider as soon as your contract is up.
But.. please keep us updated if you get a positive response.
That sucks man. Keep us posted.

+1. (There is a ten char limit, so a simple +1 wont do it seems!)
What??? that seems stupid!!! In the UK the networks will normally price match. Have you tried asking for the PAC code?

Nexus 4 8GB + Giffgaff. Match made in heaven?

For UK users considering getting the Nexus 4 and are looking for the best Sim for it, I have to say Giffgaff has me really impressed.
£12 nets you 250 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited* internet (*there's a fair usage policy, but it's something like 30gb a week).
The Unlimited Data means you can really take advantage of the cloud storage options on the Nexus and save yourself £40 over the 16GB model (unless you download a ton of apps and games, you won't need the space).
If you store all your music on Google Music and stream when you need it, and upload all your videos and pictures to Dropbox or Google Drive and delete them from your phone, it leaves the whole 5.5gb of available space for apps.
Been using it all weekend and I'm incredibly impressed so far. I reckon this is what Google had in mind for the Nexus range.
You may as well have gone with o2, seen as though GiffGaff use o2's satellites but with half of the "signal power" as it were. Full power being reserved for o2 customers of course lol

That's not physically possible and even if it were it would violate so much EU competition law no one would do it.
im with Three. £15.90 gives me 600 mins, Unlimited (5000) texts, and Unlimited Internet, no fair use policy. Thats for 12 months and there is also a 1 month rolling option for the same price but a reduced number of mins to 300.
Yeah with Google music, dropbox/box/drive I seen to store very little on my device. Got a lot of games installed, couple of big ones and I've not hit my limit yet.

Can't vouch for giff gaff's data reception. I live in West Yorkshire and the signal is very variable. I get a lot of "server overloaded" messages in Opera on the first try. I am not aware of a "Fair Use Policy" but I thought that the market was generally moving away from that kind of marketing anyway.

My brother is with GiffGaff, and has no complaints. It's certainly one of the cheapest unlimited internet plans available I think.
The prices in here show what REAL capitalism is all about, our prices/plans in the US don't come close
Im with Giffgaff and must say I always get good signal.. I usually opt for the only 2g network settings unless Im actually going to browse the internet. As soon as I switch off the 2g only setting. My network indicator will show H straight away.
I have used giffgaff and found the signal in West Yorkshire to be very poor. Its a shame really as the O2 network used to be really good.
The comment about giffgaff getting half the signal of O2 is utter c%^p.
I got onto the T-Mobile full monty plan, Unlimited everything (calls, text and web) for £16 a month with £100 cash back :highfive: I have asked what happened at the end of the contract and it goes up to £31 a month, however call up T-Mobile and they will honour the tariff for another year
on giffgaff here, using the tenner a month package since I don't really need unlimited internet thanks to wifi on my bus, home, uni, train etc etc lol

But you live in a free country.
We have a queen and everything. She doesn't allow companies to fix prices. Very fascist for the companies.

You may as well have gone with o2, seen as though GiffGaff use o2's satellites but with half of the "signal power" as it were. Full power being reserved for o2 customers of course lol

1: O2 Don't offer unlimited Data
2: O2's Cheapest Plan with a decent amount of data requires a 12 month contract (and it's still only 1GB a month).
3: Giffgaff uses O2's cell network. And they get the same connection as O2 customers (and all the other MVNOs who use O2's network).
4: Stop talking rubbish.

Why are you bashing the guy? Ok he is not using the correct terms but the base of what he is saying is correct. They use O2's network and most likely will get the same reception, but do not get the same 'priority' that O2 users will get when it comes to using that network
If my father wasn't at work, I would ask him for the details as he works for O2 (not on their store sales team either..)

O2 have a habit of telling customers that Giffgaff's data network is slower than their own (O2's Retentions Department is particularly bad at this) in order to retain or gain customers, however, the fact is that they use exactly the same network infrastructure (as do Tesco Mobile).
O2 have no "control" over Giffgaff's data traffic (they use different APNs for a start), so there's no "priority" system involved. Giffgaff simply lease bandwidth from O2 in the same way that Sky or TalkTalk lease bandwidth from BT for home ADSL.
So no, the base of what he's saying is actually wrong.
Here's a quick test I did with my giffgaff sim and my contract O2 sim, same phone, same location (best result out of 5 tests each)
giffgaff:
Ping: 102ms Download: 6293kbps Upload 2104kbps
O2:
Ping: 92ms Download: 6190kbps Upload 2307kbps
The difference is minimal

Rogers introduces "Roam like home"

WOW! I'm impressed because if you take into account that it's about 1.50$ a minute to call in the USA, in 3 minutes you have already used up almost the 5$ it costs to use the new service. I often travel to the US and wished this plan would have existed before.
Introducing ROAM LIKE HOME: A brand new way to roam in the U.S.
The stress related to U.S. roaming has just disappeared. Gone are the days of adding roaming plans, swapping out your SIM card or searching endlessly for Wi-Fi. Today we shared news that will change how you stay connected when you are in the U.S. $5 per day for the freedom to roam Starting Monday, November 10, your Share Everything Plan will cover the U.S. For just $5 per day when roaming in the U.S., you will be able to use the data and unlimited talk and text from your Share Everything Plan in the U.S. just like you would at home. Even calls and texts within the U.S. and back to Canada are included. This means you can text your BFF from Chicago; update your Facebook status while lounging in Miami; get directions when you’re lost in Memphis; call home to check in from Portland; Instagram a picture from the Statue of Liberty and more – all for only $5 per day when roaming. Your mobile phone is now your best travel companion. Simple and affordable We know not everyone heads to the U.S. for the same reasons – visiting family, shopping, playing tourist, work, etc. – so whether you’re hitting the outlet malls across the border for the weekend or basking in the Florida sun for three months, we’ve got you covered:
You’ll only pay $5 per day for ROAM LIKE HOME, for a maximum of 10 days on any monthly bill
This means up to 21 days of ROAM LIKE HOME at no extra charge in that month
If you’re not using your phone on a particular day when you’re in the U.S., the $5 per day doesn’t apply
If you happen to use more data than what’s included in your plan, you’ll be charged the same as if you were in Canada. Track your usage using the My Rogers app. You can also switch to a different Share Everything Plan if yours is no longer meeting your needs.
But how do you get it? If you’re an existing Share Everything customer, you’ll need to enroll first. Starting November 10, simply text “travel” to 222 to get started. All new Share Everything customers as of November 10 will be automatically enrolled so they can immediately start taking advantage of our best roaming rates to the U.S. We listened when Canadians told us roaming wasn’t always easy and affordable. In a recent survey, we found that 49 per cent of Canadians who travel with their mobile device turn roaming off and 66 per cent wait to share photos rather than uploading them in-real time. More than half of people surveyed would rather take a chance on a nearby restaurant instead of using their mobiles to find the top-rated eateries in the area. That’s why we’ve introduced ROAM LIKE HOME – so you can use your mobile device just like you do at home anywhere you travel to the U.S. Visiting the U.S. is about having fun, not stressing about staying connected. With ROAM LIKE HOME, travelling in the U.S. will never be the same. ROAM LIKE HOME is also coming soon to tablets – stay tuned. If you could roam anywhere in the U.S., where would you go?

Robbers...I mean Rogers sucks. Windmoble has unlimited data and calling in USA for $10 a month.
@op, of course you're impressed. I bet you were also impressed when you fell for share everything plan.
Don't worry, I know plenty that lost their unlimited North America with 6 gb data, for shiny iPhone and share everything plan. They will rejoice with this Roaming deal.
I myself will just pop in local sim in my unlocked phone.

Yep! ^^^
They try to make their plans and extras seem like a deal! Like most big companies they are looking for BIG profits.
Many others up here offer voice text n data in US for fraction of the price.
And their new share everything plans are EXPENSIVE! and here's the kicker.. As of few months ago one now HAS to switch to a new plan and give up (likely an older much cheaper but with more stuff plan) if you want to EVER get a new phone (subsidized ). That is the true tragedy.

First of all, wind has a VERY limited user base as its only in small parts of southern Ontario. Second, an unlimited north American data plan never existed from any of the major carriers.in Canada. 3rd, I have absolutely nothing to complain.about with Rogers. I have a 15gb share everything plan with 2 tablets that have LTE and I pay 100$ a month and that includes worldwide sms and prefrred calling rates abroad. There is not a single company in the US or in Canada that is widely available that could match my plan in any way.
If you think Rogers are robbers then don't go with them. You don't live in Syria...you have the choice to go with wind if it's available to you, which is probably not.because it's only in.southern Ontario. So at least when you compare, try to do it on a fair ground.

Your plan is a ripoff. Bell and Rogers run a monopoly and make sure everyone overpays. Not just for phones but in all forms of communication.
We've had something similar here in New Zealand, however it's worldwide roaming. Pay $5 a day and get unlimited roaming in the UK, Australia, USA, Japan, China and couple of island countries.
