[Q] N1 won't boot into recovery - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I installed CM6 stable on my N1 after performing a nand backup. I restored to the original rom today to check something out. Now I can't boot into recovery. I get the exclamation android Guy. I used amonRA. Any suggestions?

i've got the same error and i tried with awrecovery.img instead of recovery-RA-nexus-v1.7.0.img and its working

I think the stock ROM flashes stock recovery when you reboot. You are actually in stock recovery when you see that screen. Try hitting the volume down and power buttons at the same time. Same exact thing happened to me.
I just decided to skip the stock ROM for that reason.
I bet there is a workaround for it though.

One work around would be to flash recovery using rom manager.

pwig is right, you replaced your recovery with the stock one.
You need to re-root (if the stock isn't rooted - which I believe it isn't, since the only builds that include recovery are completely stock), and after rooting re-flash the recovery with Amon_RA's recovery.

OKAY soo...
I was trying to flash cyanogens new rom 4.2.1.1 or w/e... and i flashed the radio. didn't do home + back, then i flashed his rom.
It was stuck at g1 screen for a long while so i went to recovery then flashed the radio again.. but instead of back home i did menu+call+end [which restarst phone]
now, when I try togoto recovery it shows exclamation point with triangle
though, my phone will boot up to my recent dwang rom, but its stuck at android bootloop.
help appreciated!
You flashed the wrong recovery image. Meaning you need to re-root your phone. Thats the STOCK recovery image, not the update.zip style recovery from the website. Easy fix.
I wiped and yeah i had 4 columsn of icons =/. thanks

Flashed ClockworkMod Recovery + MarketFix, Radio now Broken

Here's the sequence of events, wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction for repair.
I am on Froyo, the initial leak rooted by Paul.
I wanted to get my market working, so I found this billg market fix + busybox update zip.
I installed RomManager, and it suggested I flash ClockworkMod Recovery, so I did. It guessed my phone correctly (I think) as the "Nexus One (GSM)". I'm now no longer totally sure - but that IS the T-Mobile version right?
Anyway, I flashed clockworkmod recovery, and then I chose the market fix, and then I rebooted.
Everything seemed OK but the first warning sign was no graphical boot screen (no sparking multi-colour X). It booted up OK but no connection to the network at all. I can not even enable wi-fi.
Not I'm not too sure what to do, would hate to make matters worse. I can boot into recovery and it is ClockworkMod recovery, but of course there are no backups on that thing I can restore to. I was using AmonRA recovery before.
Any thoughts?
TIA Paul

find a froyo radio update from somewhere. there on alot of the rom pages
and flash a new rom after the radio and see what happens
The latest clockworkmod is buggy for me too. You can flash back to amon's recovery in fastboot.
Quick update
Flashing the Froyo radio update was no help.
I re-flashed Amon RA recovery and now I'm reapplying the original Paul's frf50.
Fingers crossed.
Phew, OK I'm back on the air.
Now I have to try to figure out how to apply the market fix without using ClockworkMod!!!
Thanks for help/advice.

Is it a zip you flash in recovery?

Clockworkmod recovery not booting after a full system boot

Can anyone give me a explanation why after installing rom manager and the clockworkmod recovery i can imediatly boot into recovery, but after doing a normal system boot and try again do boot into recovery (through rom manager or even manualy pressing power + vol down) i can´t??? It stops at a black screen with a white exclamation triangle and a android icon. If i go through flashing the recovery again (in rom manager) and after that i press "reboot into recovery" it works well. But thats the only time i can. Meannig: i have to flash the clockworkmod recovery every time i want to go there. Is this normal? Is it rom manager? clockworkmod recovery? or the Android OS? I´m on a rooted Nexus with a unlock bootloader (androidroot) running stock froyo. What can i do to make the clockworkmod recovery stick?
I´m a newby in flashing roms, and i would love to try a modified rom. But for that to happen i need to have full trust in the apps i´m using to do that. Until now i can´t say that i feel confident to go through with the flashing process. Any help would be much apreciated.

I also have the same problem with AmonRA Recovery. After a long search for the answer thru google search, I found out that Custom Recovery won't stick with the Stock ROM. You need to flash your N1 with a custom ROM then only the Custom recovery will work. If you do a nandroid restore back to the stock rom, the custom recovery will disappear again. You need to reflash the custom recovery again to get you back to the custom recovery screen for flashing custom ROM.
Thank you for the quick answer

same problem with stock frg83
thank you taksei
EDIT: found how to disable:
mv /system/recovery-from-boot.p /system/recovery-from-boot.p.bak
mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak

If you would read the recovery installation instructions in Wiki, you'd notice the instructions for removal of those 2 files, that rewrite the recovery on system boot.

Go check in your application drawer (apps list) and it should be there with the title as CWM
Also check for the superuser.
And for flashing roms got to recovery by pressing volume up+home button + power button at the same time and holding them pressed till the time the screen shows Samsung Galaxy Note GT N 7000 and leave it as soon as this logo shows on the screen.
You DON'T have CWM Recovery installed. Search for Dr Ketan's guide in the Android Development section and install CWM Recovery through that. After you have CWM, you can easily install the ROMs..
Is it getting stuck towards the end of flashing the rom? Does it get stuck at md5 stage when making a backup/resotring from one?
Same thng happens with me. I just flashed the redpill recovery and it works fine, except for the fact that every time i boot itno recovery i have to re-flash redpill b/c it keeps going back to clockworkmod recovery.
Hope this helps, even though it is not a full solution.

Flash ZIPs on Stock Rom?

I'm trying to flash the new gmail/camera to my bionic. I have it rooted and running JB, but can't seem to figure out how/which recovery to flash it in. I tried recovering the stock rom in a rom slot and flashing them it seemed to work until I got stuck in a boot loop. The zips fail on stock recovery (any way around this?) and rom manager doesn't boot into cm recovery. What else can I try?
Edit: Has been resolved
Stock Recovery has always been made for flashing ONLY signed official ZIP files. CWM recovery only works if you're on Bootstrap, which is old and deprecated, as well as possibly dangerous for your Bionic. Safestrap is the only way to go on the Bionic at this point and I'm not even sure of its abilities to write to /system on the stock slot
