But it does NOT say to which FW it will upgrade.
It just says "Firmware Upgrade Notification" and a bunch of warnings about data loss.
Can't I see which new FW is available anymore?
Or can I just click Upgrade and another screen with FW information and further confirmation will pop up?
Thanks,
Paulo
Solved....
Had the guts to click "Upgrade" and another screen pops with further confirmation.
Now I'm totally confused.
It offered me to upgrade to JM2.
I thought that JM2 was a test release, isn't it????
I thought that official versions always followed the pattern JF, JG, JH.... but never JM or JP.
Can someone give some light?
Thanks
JM2 is not a test release. My German unbranded Galaxy S came with JM2.

are you sure you're not in test mode on kies?
or you've probably forgetten about the hostfiles trick previously ;p
Can confirm that Froyo (2.2) is available here in Denmark through Kies. Upgrade went without problems.
Hopefully this will fix issues with connecting to certain wifi routers...
Froyo also available in Norway trough Kies. Not test mode.
But seem to be missing Android Market... Anyone else got that problem?
Android Market also missing here in Denmark. AppBrain App Market reports that Market is not installed. I hope they fix this soon :/
try wipe, it should work
Wipe did work. But lost all apps and data...
Can anyone confirm that a wipe will bring back the marked?

Yes the "new" froyo from Kies (JPM).
Will try to wipe, just updated mine.
Market will return if you do a Factory Reset of the phone.
Beware that all apps and settings will be wiped too. If you want to backup Data+Apps first, MyBackup Pro is a good choice.
Not taking any chances i also backed up Photos/Videos/Music just in case something went wrong.
So the procedure for upgrading to Froyo (2.2) should look something like this:
1. Backup Apps + Settings (optional)
2. Backup Photos/Videos/Music (optional)
3. Upgrade firmware using Kies.
4. Restore Market by doing a Factory Reset.
5. Restore data (optional)
Enjoy the new firmware
Market also missing for me in Norway
Is it possible for someone who has done a wipe to extract their market APK (if there's such a thing) for the rest of us to install? I'd really prefer not to have to wipe.
= Post to wrong thread =
Which version of kies you are using?
To upgrade the phone to Froyo (2.2) i am using Kies 1.5.1.10074_45
And as far as i know it is not possible to bring back the Market app, without doing a Factory Reset. Maybe if you rooted the phone you could achieve this ?

Hi ,
i hope this is not a duplicate thread. (nothing comes up in my search)
can i skip one firmware version and go directly to the latest?
My galaxy s is on JF6 now. currently JG4 version is available. (india)
but i dont want to update to jg4 as we are expecting froyo.
will i be able to update to froyo from JF6?
also what will happen to my installed apps after firmware upgrade?
do i have to install them again?
thanks...
I believe you can upgrade directly to what's available at the point of time.
Yes, all user-installed applications would have to be re-installed, but your sdcard data remains safe. If you need to take backups of application settings, etc., try Titanium Backup
Hi
thnx for your quick reply and sorry for my late reply
what will happen to the data stored by samsung apps?
(if they are in sdcard, it is OK. right?)
and by any chance do u know when will froyo be available in india?
thnx
Now I have a stock ROM, android 2.2 froyo SGS. I already rooted and used OCLF it. And now, I want to update it thru KEIS using samsung made stock rom, maybe 2.2.1 the latest?
What do I need to do before I can update my phone? Do I need to remove the partition made of OCLF and the OCLF itself? And also unroot?
Another alternative, I'm willing to fully reset my phone, then update it just like having it fresh from store then update. What do I need to do?
Of the two alternatives, I prefer resetting it. Cause I want a fresh phone. Thanks!

You didnt tell, where you live and what your regional settings are.
ONLY if you are in Europe: Reset your SGS to any stock version. (You'll find all of them on samfirmware.com). Use "Kies Registry Patcher" to fake Kies-settings. Tell Kies that your version is the XEU version. Now you will get the official UK english Froyo 2.2.1. AT the first start you may choose any other European language and region.

Sorry about that sir, I'm from the Philippines. Am I able to update to the latest or not? Thanks! And If yes, about the reset phone, Do I need to unroot and remove OCLF? Thanks!
Need to remove root OCLF etc .
Update to your networks stock rom via Kies YES if your network have updated to 2.2.1 No if they have not .
Update to Samsungs stock rom ( not your networks ) yes using unofficial route stock rom from Samsung Firmware and Odin method to flash new rom .
Network rom the rom supplied to your phone customized by your network.
Stock Samsung the rom supplied by Samsung without network customisation .
Factory reset is always best before any update i find .

If you want Froyo then your only options are to flash back to stock and then use kies mini to get the update or flash a custom ROM based on the new release.

Att learned their lesson on the last OTA. The update is with Keis only
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
Can I flash back using one clicklag fix or Titanium Backup?
And, I download kies.
Titanium backup only backs up your apps and data.
One Click Lag Fix? -- is a.. lag fix.
Are you still on 2.1? Or are you on 2.2 right now?
one click had a button to unroot. 2.1. [How do I "flash back to stock"?]
This one [STOCK ROM] Odin3 One-Click Downloader and Drivers CAPTIVATE ONLY if you have the three button recovery.
This one I897UCJH7 - OTA System, Kernel, Modem - Clockwork Flashable - Rooted if you want to use CWM.
This one {Stock Rom} Odin JF6 with 3 button fix if you need the three button fix.
I installed official 2.2 via Kies right over rooted 2.1 with no issues. After the install, TiBu was still there, but would not work until I rooted 2.2. What I am saying is that, in my experience, flashing back to stock before updating via Kies was not necessary and by skipping that step all of my aps, SMS, and call logs migrated over seamlessly.
Hello everyone! my sgs is having problems with the gingerbread update, first I tried to update through kies but the phone wouldnt connect so I just used odin to flash it as recommended by someone in another forum, anyway now I cant open most of my apps, I cant open the market, I cant root the phone etc. what is wrong? please help, thanks.

I did that a couple of days ago but there was no change then. I think its starting to work better now, strangely the market is working fine now all of a sudden, some apps too not all of them, what did I do right?

fw 2.3.3, and I'm not sure what is a bootloader?
Another forum good advice they give . Follow our instructions then ask someone else to fix it .Would not be sure as to proper instructions given .
You can only update via Kies if their is a firmware for your product code on the server .
If it works ok leave it but if not then you would be best to wait for release of Gingerbread or use the flashing Gingerbread methods posted on this forum and reflash .

I am having trouble updating to Gingerbread using KIES I currently have installed FROYO 2.2. but Whenever I plug in my device I get a not supported message 2.0 error. I have also tried rooting the phone but I am not able to continue.
Can anyone help?
Don't use kies; use odin. If you don't repartition you will keep your apps/settings. Your results will be exactly the same as if you upgraded via kies.
no repartition, no cwm cache/factory reset = battery drains, fc, soft reboots and so

Not necessarily. I went from KC1 to KG3 on my wife's phone and she has absolutely no issues. However I wouldn't go from KC1 to JVR without a factory reset. It all depends the source/destination.

Explain. What mechanisms are at work to cause such problems? The only logical explanation would be left over app data from previous system apks. But my experience has shown that this is not an issue.
What do you think kies does differently to allow upgrading without wiping?
infact thats the source of most if not all problems (left over app data from previous system apks)
kies update is not the same as odin update or cwm update

Fair enough. My original point holds. My wife has not had a single issue since upgrading via odin.
so the package was well prepared new files overwrited old ones and app data was wiped

It was the official kg3 downloaded using check fus downloader. Either way it doesn't matter; one can try without wiping and if problems occur, just do a hard reset. Simple enough.
I put Milkys MOD on my phone, and used Kies for my daughter's, Kies goes straight on, no problem, all apps and contacts as they were, a good, safe way to upgrade.
We live in OZ, but I changed my daughter's region to EU so she wouldn't end up with the pages of Optus crap, and only 2.3.3, Kies gave her 2.3.4 JVQ.
