[Q] purchasing SGS abroad, 3b combo a must ? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Helllo,
I'm going to buy an SGS in Barcelona next week through my parents going there and I was wondering how critical is the 3b combo for rooting for adding hebrew to the phone, applying a lag fix and maybe updating to froyo when it comes, is it that dangerous being without the 3 button combo ?
Btw if anyone knows of a good place to purchase it I'd like to hear.
Thanks, Vadim.

3 button definitely
else how do you expect to fix the phone if you can't access the stores?

then I'll need to go for the desire instead,
thanks

Sleep/power button not working...

Hi all, I need some help.
Yesterday my G1's red call/end/power button stopped working. Unfortunatley, my phone is about 3 days past my 1 year HTC warranty. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or if there is a known fix.
I wanted to sell my G1 this month in order to subsidize a Nexus 1 purchase. I don't have any problems taking apart my phone to do this, but I am hoping there is someone who has seen this before who can help me out.
Thanks All

DEAD Galaxy Tab. Samsung Center said the Motherboard problem.

Hi all. My TAB is dead already. it's dead just normally not because of flashing or rooting process etc. The battery drain to below 10% before i go to sleep and left it without charging it. I don't think its the cause it's dead.
Btw, when i wake up tomorrow morning, i found it dead then, i connect it with the charger but nothing happen. no lights, no display, nothing show up.
After trying all the combination of keys that i found on google to wake it up, it still not helping.
For info, my Tab is already being rooted and flashed with Overcome 2.0.1 ROM from the first day i bought it a months ago. Its act like a normal before its really dead.
So, I send it to the Samsung Center (Malaysia). After a week, i got a call from them and they said my Tab Motherboard is fault/burn because of 3rd party software that i install on it. I think they mean the rooting & unlocking the Tab. So that, my warranty is VOID! and i need to pay around RM700 (USD 230.49) to change the motherboard if i want.
what you think guys? Does rooting/flashing a Rom will effect the hardware or its just their excuse?
..// sorry for my bad english btw.
i think by this money you better buy new tab .. how come you unlock your tab ? i thought all the tabs in malaysia are Unlocked .
did you try to keep it in charge for at least 4 hours and\or , in USB plug it to your computer and keep it plugging and see , ( this method may and may not work ) ..
but serious 700rm they are taik

hihihi this is my thread ..
how you wanna give to your wife and your tab is dead ? if i'm in your place . i'll fight with them .. but however , you should fix it ..
yeah Taik , some of the words that my malayu friend teach me
A third party software making the tab's motherboard to get busted?! Honestly, can you believe that? If i were you, im going to fight it out with samsung!

You had overcome on it. Overcome allows for overclocking. Overclocking (even if you didn't do it) equals a voided warranty. it's made clear in every post that flashing the device voids a warranty. If you choose to fight, you won't win. This is why there are posts to restock the tab for sending back...

ya i know it. they will win. even i dont OC & even its brick because of their hardware faulted. but from what i see, they are likely to transfer the cost of repair to me because i'm rooting it. oh my~

Yes Overclocking can destroy electronic components because of overheating. That is the main reason for me to remove overcome as my tab was abnormally warm compared to stock gb when I had gold flashed to it. I did not even touch any of the oc setting.....and may I add that I am in the Middle East where heat is an issue...

As my sig says it....no longer as I have no use for it.
And even the Pitbull, one of the brains behind Overcome had posted about UNDERCLOCKING here and here.....it isn't just me....

kinda similar with mine....now my gtab still on samsung centre. this morning tried to check it out and it was told that i will receive new korean battery & new machined
the customer service told that before i upgrade to gingerbread (also in samsung centre) my gtab is being rooted??
the question (in my case), is it possible to detect that my gtab was rooted since they (samsung centre) already upgrade it?
well alisabki, its kinda hard in your position....have you tried to look after the mother board on ebay/amazon perhaps? to get the alternatives price?
last night i just read (forgot the sources) that cost to build gtab is only $241 (part+labor)
come to think of it, i guess frequent flashing and trying new kernels may cause wear and tear to the tab. refers to my response here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14765324#post14765324
The service centre person told me they replaced the motherboard and the battery. I am staying stock for now.
Well folks,
Just pick up my gtab and it os i got new korean battery and new machine dunno what they mean with machine here i guess same with u, motherboard with free warranty power.
They said,"my gyab was being rooted" but they already upgrading to gingerbread so they helped me with free warranty.
Imho, my case happened because i had install couple application that required root such as adfree, quikreboot, etc and perhaps the officially gingerbread doesn't comfortable enough which is i haven't rooted
Fel good to be back with this magnificent 7
genuine asia gingerbread
I'm having a hard time believing that it's actually toast. If you'd like me to take a look at it, just PM me as I'm very familiar with fixing bricked TAB's in any condition.
I hard believe that they can recognize that you rooted your phone or whatever since they said to you that your motherboard is gone.........so, unfortunately it is also happened to me today, it's not the first one that i flash my tab but today i've hard bricked it, sent back to Vodafone, told me to wait 1 month (#[][]###[##!!)
Dammit, never brick a phone, well used to HTC never bought a Samsung and in all honesty i was thinking to change my beloved HD2 for a Galaxy S 2 but i've found very risky to flash those Samsung phones so changed idea and waiting for new HTC devices with bootloader not locked.
Will let you know for news from Vodafone but if they will say me that brick was because i've rooted it then i want proves of that, if they can see that then they can resurrect the phone without change motherboard...am i right?
Well, i love Overcome Rom. Its getting better and better. Yap. Like Pitbull, im also the battery-wh*re.. i dont care so much about its performance. Im not doing heavy stuff/work on it. i got my nexus one btw to trying or playing overclocking etc... im just using my tab to surfing, file transfering/dropbox, movies, and even games sometime which i think it's 1ghz power is still doing its job.
What is my really problem is they (samsung center) say my warranty is void because of 3rd party software that i install on it. i think its just their excuse. the overcome rom that i use is already a month old. nothing wrong with the 3rd party software that i've install.
Declan79, its possible to detect if we root it or not. in my case, they just change the motherboard and they will turn it on just like normal. for example, my pc dead because of the motherboard. i change it to the same model and walla.. its fixed! its the same concept..
the cost to change the motherboard is cost me around USD263.27 which is more expensive + no warranty. so what? everything is expensive in my country.
you're so lucky Declan. even you void the warranty by rooting it, u still got it repaired for free..

[Q] Galaxy S i9000 home button not working

Hi there, I have a Galaxy S i9000 which the home button stopped working last night.
I suspect it's water damage so I don't want to return it, it's around 6 months old.
Would the users here suggest that I return it, or buy a home button flex and attempt to repair it myself?
If I'm advised on the second option where can I buy the replacement parts?
I have often been using the phone with wet hands, as well as in a hot steamy environment for the past 4 months with no issue until now.
I have some very minor, near irrelevant skills to do with electronics and it's limited to putting a pc together, and some soldering when I was a kid.
Any help would be appreciated thankyou,
Mark.
I'm running darky's rom 10.1 and darkcore 2.6 kernel

Me too, and i've read some people with this issue...seems to be a major hardware problem, disassembly and try to fix but no luck, physical home button seems to be dead . I don't know if buy the complete button or send to samsung, watch this: http://www.aliexpress.com/fm-store/...For-Samsung-Galaxy-S-i9000-Free-Shipping.html
Happened to me yesterday, but the extrange thing is that I can enter the recovery using 3 button combo, so it is not a HW problem...
I tried to reflash original JVS, JVT, CM7 and MIUI but as soon as I pass boot animation the button doens't work...
Any ideas??
Your phones are probably still under warrany, there's no need to fix it youserlf, take it to your mobile service provider if you bought it with them, or call a samsung agency near you if you bought your phone anywhere else.
I've had my SGS for about 14 months and never had any trouble with home button I guess not everyone has that luck
Hi, guys.
My home button stopped working one day as well. I ordered this in AliExpress
It was ok for me. The item you can see it seems different or not original. But it is totally the same. Now I show you my old piece and you can compare. It is a little complicated to install, you have to be very carefully and operating with the right tools. If I were you, I would order two items, just 9$ plus and you can fail the first time

[Q] Buying a used Captivate on Rogers.

I want to know is there anyway to tell if the phone has been previously rooted? Also some suggestions on buying a used smartphone? Does anyone know of an app that will test the hardware? Thanks, I have a hard time letting go of my money.lol

Help, milestone going mad

Guys
My milestone (A853) is giving problems. Every now & then, the screen is automatically pressed..mostly on the left hand side I think. What could the problem be? Is there pressure on the screen (which in my opinion should't activate button presses, but I'm not sure).
What should I do? Should I take it back to my service provider or is there something else that can be done? It's still on contract, so I can take it back, but, ithey won't be able to give me the Milestone again...meaning they must service it...and they probably would cause more harm. And since it doesn't do it all the time, they might not do anything...or they will be stupid and just flash the stock rom over again. Or they would surprise me - you can never tell. I stay in South Africa....
So now if I should take it back, I will need help. I need to get it back to stock...what's the best (I'm on Cyanogenmod 7). Please assist. I work thr whole week, so iif I should tqake it back, I must do it on a weekend...i.e. tomorrow, otherwise only next week.
Please assist.
Sent from my Milestone using Tapatalk
your digitizer is dying, i have the same problem, replacing it is the only solution i found so far.
you can find a replacement on ebay with the tools for about 20$ if you want do it on your own. if you still on contract the should do it for free because it's a common problem on the milestone.
[HOW-TO] Get your Milestone back to stock this should help you getting back to stock
Thanks, I will try flashing it back to stock - although the file might not be correct, but I'm just taking the "Africa" sbf for 2.2.1.
I will take it in tomorrow. So far today the phone has been fine though.
Thanks for the help.
PS. did you replace your digitizer?
not yet, but i will have to do it one day
my problem is that the back button gets "pressed" kinda annoying
