i just recently upgraded my firmware from I9000DTJF3 to I9000DTJG3 (got mine when it first came out in Australia). Prior to being upgraded, the stock camera application had the option of not having a shutter sound, however after the upgrade this option has disappeared, being replaced by three very annoying and loud sounds that do not change in volume regardless the state of my phone ( vibrate, mute, etc). My question is, Has the option to remove the sound remained in this firmware or has it been replaced forever, never to be seen again. If so, is there a way,( without downloading a custom ROM or downloading and app) ,that i can remove the sound permanently
Jp6 allows silent shutter actions just like you remember.

After updating to Froyo, my phone has no sound when playing media files. It is also without system sounds. Any ideas as to what's caused this and how to fix it?
EDIT: So when I have the headphones in, it plays through the speakers. Wtf?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=912932
i have a no sound issue as well, newter55 gave me the fix of taking the back cover off and gently pressing down the speaker.
Maybe this will solve your issues as well
did you ever get a fix to this... mine is doing the same
Same issue here with the Samsung/AT&T release of Froyo for Captivate. If I plug in headphones and then disconnect, that fixes the issue.
[edit - RESOLVED!]
I think I may have resolved this issue, hopefully will help others. I use an app ("Profile") to set ring tones and notifications for certain times. In Froyo, there is a new item in the settings menu (Settings-->Sound), top item = "Silent Mode" (at least I think it's new, I don't remember seeing it in 2.1, and definitely did not have this problem in 2.1). I had checked this box, and what I think happened is when my Profile app was either not running or had reverted to system settings, my phone then defaulted to the Froyo silent mode setting.
Might want to check this out instead of the somewhat dubious "remove back cover and press around the speaker" advice I saw when trying to resolve the problem.
froya no sound FIXED
i got this to work for me using the sony erricson x1 go into the settings menu and select sounds in the volume menu , i noticed after installing the latest froyo update my media volume was muted , after increasing media volume all is well
I have read some other sources saying that there is no way to turn off the shutter sound when taking pic with my Note (i am not going to root my baby). Can anybody confirm or advise a solution. Thx!

AFAIK you can only do it by rooting (and why wouldn't you want to?), and delete /system/media/audio/ui/Shutter_01.ogg or add in a quieter, less obnoxious sound.
I am running LB1 PowerTweaked, which thankfully has a quieter AutoFocus sound, because that is the one Camera sound that is not in the /system/media/audio/ui directory. I renamed Shutter_01.ogg to Shutter_01.ogg.bak, and did the same to Cam_Start.ogg and Cam_Stop.ogg. Blissful quiet!

Please post all questions in the Q&A section
thanks! it seems that the only way is to root....
sorry for positing in the wrong forum.
The manual workaround method for the odd shots you need stealth for would be to switch the Note to silent mode before using the camera.

In my case, the shutter sound still exist even i switch my phone to silent mode.....

That's a shame
There might be differences in firmware versions as although I do have root access, I'm using stock LB1 firmware released for Germany (one of the latest official firmwares). Turning my sound mode to silent completely switches off all the camera sounds, even the autofocus sound.

Just had my SGN for 2 days now
problem is that i dont have any audio when calling
dont hear a thing and the other party says they dont hear anything from me as well
even if i hit speaker mode
recording sound has no problem though
playing music through the speaker has no problem as well
is there a fix for this or am i doomed to have it returned?
ive already upgraded it to the latest firmware OTA
and already did a factory reset.
hit the in-call volume to the max levels
still nothing...
if i use a rom like ICS
will the problem be fixed?
If you are on the stock firmware then something with the phone. If you bought it used, I would use Odin and flash an official OEM rom. If the problem still exists, look for a methods to get your money back.
would that be the only solution?
what if i flashed to ICS?
I can't work out how to turn off the camera shutter sound. On my old One X I think that when it was on silent mode the camera shutter sound didn't go off, but in this phone even on silent it does and I can't find any option to turn it off. Does anybody know if it's possible?

It goes off for me when I'm in silent. Don't see why it wouldnt work the same for you. You sure it's on silent?

In camera, tap menu (3 dot icon), go to "Shutter options" (towards the bottom) > Shutter sound > un-tick.
The shutter sound is a legal requirement in some countries (so you can't take sneaky photos). Some carriers remove the sound option from the camera settings.

Only noticed the OP is an Aussie. Then I confirm this is the case. In Australia, phones MUST have a shutter sound. Silly I know....but Telstra, Optus etc branded phones don't let you remove shutter sound. This is for most of their phones.
I'm in Australia on Optus and can confirm that in silent mode the shutter does not make a noise. My phone is stock, unrooted and obtained from Optus.
Furthermore I have also unticked the 'shutter sound on ' in the settings as it has been suggested already and that works also, no sound from the camera when the volume is on.

Yeah I thought this might have been the case. I have a Telstra One.. it's strange that the Optus version doesn't have it but Telstra does. Oh well just giving me more reason to root.
Under shutter options for me the only setting is touch to capture :/

Also on Telstra.
One XL on Telstra had shutter sound with ICS. After the OTA JB update, camera had no shutter sound in silent mode, without changing any settings.
One on Telstra definitely has shutter sound on all sound 'profiles', and the shutter sound option has been removed.
Maybe we'll be lucky and receive the silent shutter when we get the KLP update

ATT allows for shutter sound to be turned off.
This may well be ROM dependent, but I'm using TrickDroid 5.2.1 and when I put my phone on silent (toggle the sound through EQS) I get no shutter sound.
Hello everyone
So I recently bought a used note 8 N950U Running unbranded universal stock firmware N950U1 XAA CSC.
When I first bought it was running android 7 nougat and it was completely fine then I updated to Latest android pie via software OTA update security patch June 1 2019. Now I encountered a weird bug in pie update while watching video or listening music the bottom main speaker volume goes automatically low after 2 or 3 seconds even if the volume is on maximum..
When I start any video or music I can hear very loud volume and the instantly after 1 or 2 second the volume and bass decreases about 20 to 30%
Please anyone help me understand and fix this issue?
Is this some kind of DAC OR AMPLIFIER BUG ?
But when I connected to bluetooth or earphones this doesn't happen.
I know I can't downgrade back to nougat because locked bootloader.
AM I THE ONLY 1 HAVING THIS ISSUE ?
Anyone?
Do a factory reset after backing up first!
After reset and it is still there then I would expect a faulty speaker.
I would also try using odin with the csc file (not the home-CSC file) which will erase phone and bring it back to stock.
Locked bootloader nothing can be done on the system side of things.
Do a *#0*# in dailer and test speaker.
Edit try a different music player (poweramp?)
Does it happen with the ringtones or just music?

Thanks for replying
Speaker issue was happening everywhere not just music also ringtone and notification tone.
I did everything including flashing different firmware but no luck.
Even i tried N950U1 firmware but same.
Then I went today to local repair shop and it turns out faulty speaker.
I paid around 25$ and replaced speaker now it's perfectly fine.
BTW I saw many posts on reddit same issue that i had with speaker it happened to many people in snapdragon model including a bug that brick the phone if battery goes to 0% and it will never charge again.
Not just note 8 also happened in note 9 after pie update both of this bugs.
Maybe something is wrong in pie update that messed up speaker and battery in snapdragon models.
