Text Message Rejected - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had an sms message and it got rejected saying theres low space. There was an icon saying I had low memory but I deleted an app, I checked phone memory and have 20mb free space. The icon went away but the message never came through so I dont know who it came from. What gives?

This seems obvious.doesn't it mean you didn't have memory when the message comes in

I have 20mb free on internal

Oh alright i don't know then. I would suggest trying handcent. It manages messages better when having lots. Are you on cyanogen?

It's not enough. Opening extra browser window - and voila, not anymore.
Also, the message itself might be breaking the limit.
Free your memory. Use Apps2SD and Dalvik2somewhere.

Jack, you got me biting...
Dalvik2somewhere?

I'm referring to the ability of Apps2EXT to move Dalvik to either CACHE or EXT partitions. Semi-joking

In cyan there is an option to keep messaging in memory to insure messages are not lost

I have been using Handcent for the longest and had to upgrade my SD card so I could move more apps to free up internal memory. I did get SMS rejection message due to low mem. After freeing up memory, the messages were not retrieved…but I could receive. Running MIUI

This is one of my biggest annoyances with Android. You could have 19mb free space, but the phone will reject an SMS message that MIGHT be 2kb in size. Then, there is absolutely no way to get that message back. It effectively destroys the message, leaving you with NO idea who it was from or what it said.
It would be great if there was a way to change the limit where the low space warning went off (like take it down from 20mb to 5mb or something).
I run around 25mb free space usually, but it never fails that I'll be browsing a large website, lose that free space, get the warning, then get a SMS rejection message. Infuriating.

Im using handcent

Help Memory Shortage since FRF 72

Hey guys I am not sure if this has been discussed yet but I find that my default browser is eating up internal memory space. Twice today I receive a warning notifications stating insufficient memory and further check i found browser clocking at 28mb and also the secondary email application at 15 mb
Is this normal or is this another bug
By the way running unrooted nexus
It's known that the browser has a leak, first I've read about the email app though.
i have beem having this issue too. i'd rather have the other bug with some extra memory free

Well its kinda annoying coz now I want even run flash based sites as the browser Juz consumes to much n I have to keep clearing data.
A real snag this one. Hope the official release is soon tho.
I couldnt install app updates because of insufficient memory right after 72 install. Im pretty dumbfounded. I guess this is the cause ?

so how do you get the memory back? cachemate?
With 2.1 my free memory was generally around 15-30 MB.
With 2.2 it's usually about 200+ MB

[SOLVED] [Q] G1: messages didn't arrived

I'm currently running COS-DS rom (latest as posted) and the Biffmod 2.2.1 kernel (latest as posted). The phone is using the radio version 2.22.27.08.
Today I noticed, that I haven't received 3 messages, I should have received. This never happended before on other radio's, roms and kernels. Could this be a radio issue, or just bad luck?
It's an issue with at least Gingerbread roms that when memory is not sufficient a message can get lost. Try GhostlySMS from hrk (you can find it in the market). He wrote a small program that is able to prevent you from lost messages.

Thank you for the answer!
I tested it today without ghostly sms and received every message I wrote from my second phone. Without the app none of the test messages arrived on my G1.
well, when I am using Ghostly SMS, then I don't need to enable "keep messaging app in memory"?
keep in memory
I didn't notice, that there is an option for "keeping sms app in memory". Where did you find that option? I discovered a "keep MMS-App in memory", but I think, that the sms-app is meant.
I think, it is save to use both, ghostly sms app and above option.
I am using COS-DS Gingerbread and in Performance settings is Lock messaging app in memory (Avoid lost messages on low memory situations).
But I don't want to keep app in memory, I need every megabyte and I'm not using sms very often, well I am searching for solution with lowest memory usage

Maybe you should apply the "14MB RAM hack" (located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831139) and using a "2708-kernel".
You will receive ~112MB of RAM and you could also use compcache and/or swap to get a sufficient performance on your G1.

I've been running the "2708" SPL/Radio/kernel combo and I still lose messages, that's why I wrote that app.

FYI, I've got that hack and kernel, it was the first thing I've done, when that ram hack was available and also, I was using swap, now I'm trying compcache
I have just been using the lock messenger app in memory and it fixed the problem.
The new COS (17th April) seems to be a lot faster and apparently has some low memory "tweaks". I have tested this load without the lock, and so far it works...but I still don't trust it. Anyone else had any luck with the new loads?

I flashed the COS release (17th of April) yesterday and I don't think, that I lose sms since then, because the stock sms app announced every message to me (of course I enabled the "keep SMS app in memory" option). To be sure, that I don't miss any messages I continue to use the ghostly sms app.

Looks like you are getting low on the system storage: I think you get about 2GB in that partition initially and you are at 195mb now...
Uninstall some apps.
I have uninstalled tons of apps! Still getting the same message :-(

Have you tried rebooting the phone after uninstalling these tons of apps? May be you uninstalled them from the SD card (USB storage area in your posted screenshot) not from the System?...
What does Settings, Applications, Storage Usage show? (look there for the System storage, not the USB storage)

Just rebooted the phone... Now its showing 194 mb free under system storage :-(
It just decreased by 1mb =O

What does a similar report look like on your phone (ordered by size)?
Your storage could be currupt.. If so, you wont get by without trying a factory reset or reflash with repartition..

Don't know... Arrange the downloads by size too, then you can compare directly... Also, I guess you know that there's space reported for application itself and then for it's data...
So you can free space now by removing some apps?
Yep i can free up some space ... Thanks for the support
Hopefully the phone wont play up for now.

'Internal Storage Left' message

On both my Nexus 4 & Nexus 7 running latest factory Jellybean I have noticed that whenever I update an app using the Google play store I get a little popup message saying 'Internal Storage Left' and then a number that is only a couple of MB.
Both my devices have quite a few GB free so I am wondering what this means, where it is coming from and how to stop it.
Cheers
Baz.

Do you use "Clean Master" application? I think this come from it!
Getting the same message on my Xperia Z, latest 4.2 stock.
Never heard of that Clean Master app!

Never heard of it.
Curiously I did notice this morning that the amount of memory displayed per app is consistent on both my devices. That is to say that updating the Ebay app on my Nexus 4 gave the popup of 'Internal Storage Left 1.13MB', updating the same app on my Nexus 7 gave exactly the same message.
The same happens to me... Nexus 7 2013

You all know apps install on the system partition I believe..? Not their data...but the apps themselves. If the system partition fills up, no more apps....no matter how much internal sd space you have left.
Correct me if I'm wrong??
Not saying this is the issue at hand....just wanted to point out the proper place to look at space available.

I got also that message this morning and I have 4G+, a play store bug?
There are reports in many android related forums about this, the general consensus is it's a Google bug with one of it's services.
It happened on my HTC, I actually did a soft reset (shutdown and battery pull) thinking something was crashing out and I have not seen it happen again since.
Pressing and holding the power button on the Nexus 7 for 10 seconds will trigger a soft reset as well.
It started appearing on my GNex and n7, seems like it's on my mum's n4 too.

I just started seeing this on my 2012 and 2013 Nexus 7 devices. Anytime I install something from the market I get this message. It is telling my I have like 2MB free. There is at least 10GB free so I'm not sure what is up.
I've noticed this message appear today when i've tried to install some apps on my N4. So i uninstalled the most likely ones that could potentially interfere with the system and reinstalled them one by one and on my N4 it seems that ES File Explorer File Manager is the guilty app. I can still install apps but i get a pop up with the low storage alert every time i install anything. There's 12GB spare space on my phone as well.
Interesting.. I have that installed too. I'll uninstall to see what happens. Thank for the info.

I've done testing on my Nexus tonight and since i uninstalled ES File Explorer i do not get the low space message. I've installed loads of apps tonight including some huge Gameloft ones and no errors or low space messages. Now i need to find another File Manager app.

ES File Explorer was updated today so hopefully it may resolve the issue. I have also contacted the developer and given them this URL to see whether or not they can identify if it is the cause.
Pretty sure that they added something in, all they need to do is reverse the code change.

Good call, mate. This was irritating me from a knowledge standpoint. I'm okay to keep ES installed until this silliness is patched, (their file-explorer is that good..imo) I just wanted to know where it was coming from.
I did uninstall it just to test, and I no longer received the messages either. So this is basically settled. I'll email the developers about the problem, just as Baz8755 already has, and I'm sure it'll be fixed in no time. Everyone doesn't need to get a new file explorer--unless they really want to, of course.
Anyway, thanks again DodgyDave100. You're not quite so dodgy, are you?
And here I just figured the new Market app was doing it. Well hopefully ES fixes it. It is a bit annoying.
You can turn it off
Es file manager is definitely the culprit. If you go to settings>display and uncheck the box for Show space low warning you will disable the popup. I assume it's showing it when you use more than half of your internal memory.

Low memory

I keep getting a low memory window when I try uploading pictures there a cache cleaner I use but thats not working what do I do ??
Install DiskUsage from the play store. It will show you what is using most of the space on your phone and you can you can then use the "My Files" app to remove what you want. Also get an external memory card you can put on a keychain which you can plug into both your phone and a USB port on a PC/Mac to copy files around that you want to keep. Also having "just enough" free space is not enough. Your phone will be a lot faster if there is plenty of free space available on your phone. Uninstall apps you don't use.

Its anew phone and I also debloated it iv hardly used any storage on it at all I'm not understanding why it's already low on memory with all the free room it has??
Maybe your debloating process disabled something dealing with memory management.
I would try undoing your debloat and see if it still does it...

Just re-bloat and let is know if the problem goes away first. If it does, then re-debloat only one thing at a time until the problem recurs. Then you will know what had to stay running (not be debloated) to fix the isue. It's not rocket science but it is tedious and you just need to stick with the process and be patient.
Really

Why would we look through your list? Undo it, reboot, and see if it still happens. If it doesn't then redo it slower and figure out which one breaks it.
If it does still happen after undoing the debloat and rebooting, then your phone is screwed as it doesn't happen to anyone else. Factory reset.

no need to be a prick. dont have something Useful to add shut up.
That WAS useful, you ass. It gave you two next steps to try that will identify your problem and then resolve it.
Just because you don't want to do it, doesn't mean it isn't good advice.
Good luck with your problem.
