I am having a problem with my screen, this has been a ongoing thing for a while now. I am running cm6 extremely blue from the 19th of Oct, no kernel mod. When I do a clean install my screen displays all images just fine. After a few days some images start looking really bad, instead of the colors blending they become bands of different colors. Its really hard to explain so I attached a screenie of the XDA app, the brown looks horrible. I know thats not the way it is as I have seen the colors blend together, no thick color lines. I ant figure it out for the life of me, is this happening on everyones phones? I dont recall it runnng Fresh rom, and like I said it takes a couple days for it to start happening on cm6. I found a few things in awd launcher that I can disable to help the situation, like wallpaper hack, scrolling widget support, turning these off and or on will help it look better on desktop, but on apps I found nothing to help improve. Could something need editing in the XML files? Or are we all seeing these lines and just dealing with them? Any feedback is appreciated
Oh, and once it starts this even a nandroid back to when it was fine doesnt help. Only a clean install does.
and happens with both apps2sd and internal storage.

Nobody?
This is not occurring on my pictures, gallery. My home screen is fine, as well as calendar widget. Thoroughly in handcent the gray bar up top has the color lines, slacker also has it toward the bottom where it get brighter. Could it be something in framework, maybe I can edit some sort if default setting to use 16 bit, because it looks like 8 bit graphics

I sound like your talking about dithering, like instead of something that should be a gradient it is instead broken up and where you would normally see a smooth transition from a color to color its broken with lines.
Heres some suggestions
cm settings > performance settings : enable surface dithering (which improves image quality but slows the phone some what).
reboot you phone at least once a day.
your screen density might be to high (or low) in your build.prop file.
Updated to extremely blue Oct 25 and problem is gone. Chances are in 2 or 3 days it will be back though

I had set build prop to 150 on all three, the 3rd being default. This has been a issue for some time now. I will leave build prop alone and see what happens. You are exactly right about what I am trying to explain the issue is. Can I set to 150, and what else can or can not be changed? Changing the default density to 150 was something I had never done before, screen would do this at the default 160 as well.

Are you saying your phone is running for a couple of days and then it does it, cause I daily reboot is highly recommended. The phone just doesn't have the internal memory to render the graphics on images with alot of colors.
I would try a 140 on the density.

Well yes and no, it will happen after a few days but I do reboot daily, sometimes a few reboots per day. When I edit build prop I am using Root Explorer, it saves the old file. Should I delete this file, maybe it us confusing the system? Also can I edit the default setting to 140? Thank you for your help and concern

Build prop it is! I tried 140 and still messed up so I tried changing the default to 140 also. That did not help I took all three settings back to 160 and my screen went back to clean and clear. Why can others change the dpi, am I needing to changes something else along with the 2 numbers?
Thank You!

great job!!
Nice!
Thanks Plemen. Nice, clean setup. Its great to go back to native res for a bit.
I like the theme, especially the app slider. I do have two suggestions though. One is doing something to blend the different color box around the time better, it looks like an awkward block. Then also, change the color of the date on the top when you pull down the notification shade. Its currently black on black.

Good suggestions - both are high on the list. I almost didn't release because of the clock but I wanted to have a native Res donut with themed dialer out there... I should have an update in a few days.
plemen, I added your ROM to my theme thread. 3rd post will be the running list. Hope we can keep them coming. I can help you with the notification text color if you want. Or you can grab the services.jar from mine which is already hex edited for white text.
what should my lcd density be set to?
Edit: also, in spare parts when I set the end keys function to"home then sleep" it doesn't work. anyway to fix that?
DOUBLE Edit: turns out it does work, just takes a whole 7 seconds to do so.

lcd.density=120 works well. To be honest I've left this out while testing and the default looks pretty good too.
The new button mapping is long-hold camera to return home. Leave the end key at default.

Fixed the date - keep the input coming.
I was using mssmision's method for a while - had some mysterious reboots using that and will have to test more - now I'm back to sqsh. If anyone is interested in an .ext2 file let me know. You can use ext2 instead of the sqsh if you want to modify any system files while the phone is live.
plemen, this is awesome... works great with mssmison's new partitioning technique, runs fast, looks fantastic. Great work on this build. It's not my everyday build... till Bell gets the Samsung Galaxy next month

Is the new download with the fixed date compatible with the mssmision method? I want to use that and yours. Have had no restarts and it definitely runs faster.

Ok guys, people seem to be having problems using the LCD Density changer app, so I am making this write up to help you out
If you would like to make your Droid X look like this...

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Then follow these steps.
Method 1 - ADB
1. Download LCD Density w/ 2.2 market Fix - This also contains the 2.2 market fix (without the stagefright)
2. Put the build.prop in your android-sdk\tools folder
3. Connect your phone via usb, make sure it shows up with adb devices
4. adb remount
5. adb push build.prop /system/build.prop
6. adb reboot
Method 2 - Root Explorer
1. Copy the build.prop to the root of your SD card
2. Long press on build.prop
3. Select "Copy"
4. Navigate to /system
5. Click R/W in the top right corner
6. Paste, and overwrite
7. Reboot
Your screen will now look like this, giving you much more space. And If using ADW launcher, you can use 6 X 5 rows of icons!!
Now if you really like to do things yourself, in the build.prop..
Change
ro.sf.lcd_density=240
to
ro.sf.lcd_density=200
push, reboot.
If you want to revert back, just push this Stock Build prop back into place.
Credit to the guy who made LCD Density app, but it did not work with Droid X phone and koush's recovery installed. People had to SBF, so this post was necessary.

Jacked mine up.. the method works fine, the only problem is that apps are completely screwy now.. the apps only show up in the original size so if your screen is 4 inches the app is only displaying in like 2.5 inches of space and the rest is just black now, also cause some fuzziness with some various icons in the notification bar ( battery etc).. definately gonna revert back

Only seemed to have resolution problems in the root explorer app, all other apps work fine Aside from that, i think 200 is probobly a little on the low side, may try 220 or 230 for a improvement

Worked well for me as well.
Thanks very much.
FYI
I couldnt adb remount (got an error, not sure why but whatever)
I had to boot into recovery, then do an
Code:
adb shell
then just (assuming your modified build.prop is on the sdcard root)
Code:
mv /sdcard/build.prop /system
exit & reboot!
230 was a good middle ground
Yeah, I like how it looks mostly but some apps don't strech which is kinda annoying. I'll give it a shot for a day or two and see what I think.

No. I'll help you out. Do you use Gtalk? if so, PM me your email so we can make this easier.
For anyone who doesn't know, this is a neat and simple trick to make the items on your screen bigger or smaller:
EASY WAY (it will keep the setting until you do a hard reset-- holding the power down for 10 or so seconds until it powers off):
1. Download LCDDensity for Root (free) from Market
2. Change density based on your preferences (higher # = bigger items, lower resolution; lower # = smaller items, higher res)
MORE ADVANCED WAY (if you want the change to survive a hard reboot):
1. In root explorer, navigate to system/ and backup your build.prop file.
2. Set system to r/w
3. Hold down on the original file, and select open in text editor
4. Find the two entries where it says:
ro.sf.lcd_density.xdpi=169.33333
ro.sf.lcd_density.ydpi=169.33333
If you wanted your density to be 250, you'd change them to the following single line:
ro.sf.lcd_density=250
5. Save, reboot, and enjoy your NC's new look.
Here are a couple of my homescreens set at 250:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now, jacking up your LCD density much above 200 will make your status bar look wonky and cut-off. One solution for this is to set it to 250, like above (by changing build. prop - I think the app I mentioned only allow multiples of 20), which will make it look clean (as long as wifi is on). The only problem there is that you'll lose your status bar clock and Notifications in portrait mode ...
... the solution for THIS is to get two apps: hellostatusbar, and quick launch. Set quick launch to open hellostatusbar on a home-button double press, and it will display your Notifications.
FYI the Galaxy Tab's default is 240

The free one, LCDDensity for Root, doesn't keep the change after doing a full (battery pull) reboot. To me, this is less than ideal, but if you don't mind changing it again, knock yourself out.
A battery pull reboot on a NOOKcolor? Don't you need a screwdriver for that?

I believe he is using the phone example for reference. In the case of the NC, the free option should be a good alternative for those not wanting to modify scripts.
Anyway, thanks for providing the entries to change manually. It's a good tip.

Yeah, good point - not sure if a power-button-long-hold hard reset would be the equivalent on a Nook or not. If it is only a battery pull that would do it, then you would indeed need a screwdriver and a little bit of masochism for that to be a problem.
EDIT: the long power button hold reset DOES make the free app lose the setting
If anyone's interested in getting the density more like the Galaxy Tab's without having an ugly, cut-off looking status bar in portrait mode (with a couple sacrifices), here's a little work-around I came up with (if you're using softkeys mapped to double-tap of home button, this isn't for you):
1. Set density to 250 using the build.prop editing method. Reboot.
2. Get a market app called HelloStatusBar.
3. Get a market app called QuickLaunch. Open it and set home button double-tap to open HelloStatusBar.
You'll lose your status bar clock, and it'll look ugly with wifi off, but with wifi on, it'll be nice and clean like the pic below:
Your Notifications will be gone, but now you can double-tap home to bring them up:

I'm not familiar with the paid version, so I can't really comment on that.
That's ADW EX launcher, with the browser, email, and app drawer icons from the Galaxy Tab. Not sure if Samsung's launcher icons are open source, so I won't post them (PM'd). . .
So wait the galaxy tab comes stock with the screen virtualized to be a different resolution than it actually is?
adwlauncher ex has adjustable icon sizes. You can adjust so icons are a nice size and not interfere with the dock. As if you needed another reason for ex!

I am liking 200, because it makes the back arrow easier to press !
I have an NC, rooted with autonooter, and everything seems to be working ok, but on lots(most) app's dialogs, including the nook popup UI, I will get get white on white text.
Has anyone else seen this or have a fix? It makes several apps a guessing guessing game and checkboxes have no descriptions so I haven't been able to check any of them.
Thanks!
i have the same problem!
me too! * Hoping for a quick fix!*
So, if its not a unique issue, are there people who have working rooted nooks that don't have the issue? I'm assuming that stock/unrooted NC's don't have the issue so is this some setting that needs tweaking when we open up the rest of the android OS?

I assumed it was an issue with the rooting process.
Im having the same problem with the long-press pop-up menu in xScope. I had to use trial and error to memorize the location of each option.

What applications are you seeing this in? I haven't noticed white on white text.
I have noticed that Tasker's action tab has light blue on dark blue that's really hard to read. I think that's the only one I've seen
How do you add a bookmark in xscope? Thanks
I've had this problem with the pop-up windows in XScope and RedditIsFun, although I feel like it must have happened at other times as well. It's always in a pop-up window.
I find the ADW settings screen very hard to read. It's white text on almost white background & I first thought that they were grayed out. Very annoying!
Cheers,
kev
I had it too. I saw it first in an email widget I got off the Market - de.invalidobject.mailwidget or something like that. White on white text on a popup.
Yes. Same here. It is very annoying to see Table of Content with white fonts on white background with my ezPDF Reader. And many pop up screens too.
I feel like the reason for this is because the apps are using the sam sort of theme that the books settings page uses.
The apps are set to be white on black but the book is set to be black on white so they get mixed up.
Sorry if that doesn't make sense it is rather late here.

I found this to be the case in the game Alchemy if you try to get info on items you've created. The popup shows hyperlinks in blue but all other text is white on white and unreadable.

I seriously doubt this has anything to do with the nooting, vs just that the default text color is not appropriate for normal Android apps.
I suspect someone can find the way to fix it eventually.
it happens in lots of places

I am hoping eventually we will have all kinds of custom themes and then all the menus will be black background like in typical android.

This application will allow you to adjust your displays sharpness value on the fly. Default is set at 4 but has an adjustment value of 0 to 99. Choose your amount of sharpness with this app.
Vsharp is built on Tasker for the device and on the device. Tasker is not needed to run this application. This app is currently in BETA. More features and adjustments will be added in the future. If you have an issue let me know.
CURRENT ISSUES.
Don't open the app after a reboot till it notifies you it's value is restored after a reboot. Again this is BETA and is work being done on getting it resolved.
REQUIREMENTS!
Must be rooted.
Must have busybox.
Must have SeLinux set to permissive.
HOW DOES Vsharp work?
It adjusts /sys/class/panel/img_tune/sharpness

Nice razz. Be interesting. Do have one question. You say built on tasker. Do we need tasker installed? Its not on the list but you put a link in 2nd op so I just wanted to double check.
Thanks again

No. You don't need Tasker to use Vsharp. Vsharp is a stand alone application built on tasker using the Tasker app factory.
I just posted the source in the second post to show the work if someone wanted to look at it or modify to their liking
Actually my biggest complaint about the display isn't actually the stock sharpness setting of 4, but the gamma. The gamma on my V10 is off a considerable amount and I'm losing detail in dark scenes. It's definitely not around the more standard gamma value of 2.2
I hoping to tune that up in the future also with this app.
Anyone has this confirmed to be working? ^.^
Will love to add it to the Index with confirmation

Isn't Tasker awesome?! Gonna try this out.
Update: Well it definitely appears to be doing something but I have no idea what I'm doing. Off to read some articles about sharpness before the Super Bowl, I suppose. Go Panthers!
A little confused on what exactly this does? Is this to fix that grainy look when taking pics or something?

It's just like setting the sharpness on your tv. It should not have any effect on taking a picture. If you see some grain effect in a pic its completely unrelated to this mod. What your experiencing is noise in a dark scene which is typical of a small, high pixel count camera sensor.
When taking a picture, try to use the lowest ISO setting possible. In a dark scene the ISO will need to be greater for a properly exposed pic. This is when you will experience the most noise.

okay thanks for clearing this up. Yeah I can definitely see the noise when using snapchat and it's annoying. Thought this mod was related to the noise and was gonna try it out. Thanks though!
I thought there is no working root on LG V10 yet?

I personally set it to 0 as there really isn't any need for sharpening. It just introduces noise in the display.
SWEET! Thanks for this! I was really bummed that the screen on the amazing V10 was not as sharp as my G3. Now its just as sharp. (doesn't seem to affect the second screen, but don't care)
I set it to value 30...anything more and it doesn't seem to do anything. Also, setting to max, 99, upon reboot is goes back to 0.
EDIT: So.....maybe an issue. The sharpening effect dies when i launch some apps, like Gallery. I then go back into the VSharp app and its reads the value and its back to 4..like it was overridden by the system.
Edit: Removed Gallery, Switched to Google Photos app. Doesn't instant kill sharp effect when that app is used.
Sharpness not sticking after screen off.
I definitely am noticing that any sharpness value is not sticking/being re-applied when the screen shuts off/locked or goes to sleep.
I go back into the app, and it reads the current value and it says what i set it to (30), but when i toggle it up or down, I can instantly see the example bars sharpen up, which proves it was off then was re-applied when I toggled the value.
I tried setting the app to ignore battery optimizations in system settings, thinking maybe the OS is killing the app in the background, but that has no effect. I also tried disabling the lock screen entirely, no change.
Any ideas? I do have other things like Xposed, App settings (530 dpi set on certain apps), Gravity Box, and G4 TweakBox installed....but none of them have any display mods enabled.
Any way to make a widget or something i can one-press to toggle the value and re-apply....vs having to use the app every time I want the screen sharp after it goes off.
Edit: Is this app supposed to may a dozen and more "Subsystem/img_tune/" directories in /sys/class/panel/...all inside of each other.
Is there a way to just change the sharpness file and lock it to read only o that it can be overridden...I have tried setting permissions using root explorer to read only...but it still get overwritten at reboot..and eventually by system.
Do i need to set selinux every time i reboot and app runs?
