[Q] Can´t downgrade from Froyo - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am getting a can´t open serial COM port error when ever I try to flash an eclair ROM (or any rom for that mater) using ODIN. I currently have Froyo installed but want to revert back.
I didn´t back up my efs folder before upgrading
My phone is currently stuck on the Galaxy S GT-i9000 loading page. I have no idea how to recover it as it won´t enter recovery mode. It will however enter download mode.
Any advice?
UPDATE: I restarted the PC and ran ODIN in compatibility mode and it finally loaded the PIT file. I was then able to flash a stock 2.1 ROM to the phone. Phew!

restart your computer, start the flashing process again. Usually fixes it for me when this happens.
Also, I'm sure you would find more detailed answers to this problem before in a search

[Q] Stuck in recovery mode

So as the title says i am stuck in recovery mode, Heres the story.
Got a new Samsing Galaxy S Rooted it installed lagfix all went with out a hitch. Started to install patch to allow me to connect to adhoc networks before hand I backed up my system folder using adb pull. I copied the files for the crack to get adhoc working. My wireless on my phone stops working, I restore the back up I made using adb push and restarted the phone now it boots into recovery mode everytime.
The PC still connects to my phone and I can still use adb. Now how can I undo my stupidity or atleast fix my phone?
Cheers guys
</Noob>
that's a good sign at least
see if you can get into the Download Mode with the 3 button
then Flash it with Odin back to a stock ROM
Ok i am not sure what you are refering to by download mode what 3 button combo do i use to get into it? I was just looking at the Odin software and it sounds like it might do the job but where can could i get a stock ROM? My phone is running Android 2.1 would it hurt to try installing the leaked copy of 2.2 using Odin?

[Q] Connection problem to odin after stock froyo rom flash

I've read and searched as much as I can but haven't seen anyone else have this problem.
I flashed Froyo XWJP6 using Kies and changing the registry entries and I am generally happy with the rom but I've seen others posted I wanted to try out. My problem is that I have so far been unsuccessful getting odin to connect when I go into the rom download screen (down+home+power). Odin and kies both connect when on the home screen.
I understand that since its Froyo with e3 recovery that update.zip files need to be signed so odin is needed to either install a new rom, install clockworkmod or install a kernel that has e2 recovery.
Is there any way I can get odin to connect or downgrade to e2 recovery without going through odin? Or any other solution to downgrade to 2.1 and start again?
It feels like i'm missing something but I don't have the experience to figure out what it is.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Pete
This happens to me every now and then as well. What I would do is to re-install the samsung usb driver in my laptop. After that, odin sees my phone again in DL mode.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Make sure you're connecting in the right sequence for odin.
- start odin with phone unplugged
- boot phone into d/l mode
- connect phone to pc via usb
thanks very much for replying. I tried a different computer and it seems to be a dodgy usb port/driver problem on my works computer I had tried originally.

[Q] Fixing 3-Button Combo problem by flashing new firmware.

After a failed attempt at installing Gingerbread onto my Bell version of the Galaxy S (i9000m) I was forced to flash my phone back to the standard 2.1 Eclair firmware.
I apparently chose the wrong firmware as the 3-button combo to get into recovery/download mode doesn't work anymore, and when I plug my phone into Kies it says 'this device's version cannot be updated' so I can't just get the fix through Kies.
I've tried flashing a newer version of the firmware onto the phone but I can't get it to work. Not only that, but since I can't go into recovery mode I can't root the phone anymore. I've tried a couple 'one click' programs for rooting but neither of them worked.
Does anyone know how I can fix this and get things working right again?
use adb!
Have U tried
adb reboot recovry yet?
U can download it from android web site (but I can't remember the detail)

[Q] Custom ROM Flashing Problem

I have been able to previously flash custom roms such as Cognition V.2 and Cappy's GingerBread ROM, but just recently i tried to flash Cognition V.3 on my Captivate and im unable to even enter recovery mode to flash the new ROM. Ive tried all ways to get my phone in recovery mode including the power button and volume button idea. And when i do try to flash to recovery mode, the ATT world phone screen comes up and it seems to freeze on that screen until i remove the battery.
How can i get out of this problem? Any questions, just ask because im not the best at describing things like this.
If you backed up everything use odin to flash to stock and proceed from there.
I probably should have told you that i only have a mac...im stuck arent I?
Any way you can use boot camp to boot up windows?
I ran into a similar problem some time back when trying to install an upgraded rom. For whatever reason, I had to reinstall Rom Manager to get the clockwork recovery to work. Dunno if you use anything like this, but just a thought.
Additionally, if you get rom manager you can reboot into recovery through it, as opposed to using the traditional method.
its strange because even from rom manager when i press the button to send my phone into recovery, it still goes to the att screen and freezes..
Google heimdall sgs. Program to flash stock on mac. Not as easy as odin
So ive just tried to install heimdall on my mac and it says it cannot run because my mac is not updated...i ran an update scan and there are no new updates and im also running the most up to date OS for mac. What do i do??
You are going to have to ask that question on the heimdall thread

[Q] installing Gingerbread from stock 2.1

Hi team!
Im new to this, may i ask..
Am i able to go from stock 2.1 straight to 2.3.3 by following this guide....
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/how-to-install-xxjvo-android-2-3-3-gingerbread-rom-on-your-galaxy-s/
Or will i encounter problems? do i need to go to 2.2 first?
Has anyone got the skills to give me some answers? if so thanks!
I didn't look at that guide in particular, it's like when someone does your homework for you... but it is possible to go straight to 2.3.. If your worried just go to 2.2 first...
that is all
Yeah, sure! With Odin, you can goo from any version to any version back and forth - a lot of people even use stock 2.1 to get a clean install before flashing something new, so don't worry. Just use a stock JVO version with bootloaders (there should be "Sbl" in the name of the PDA file). I alway flash stock ROMs with pit file and checked repartition - just 1) get in Odin and mount PDA (with bootloaders), Phone and CSC,also mount the pit file and check repartition, 2) turn off you phone and after that get in Download mode (Volume up+menu button+Power button), 3) connect the phone to your pc and hit start button in odin
Do not forget to take out sim card and memory card before flashing
