im wondering. is there any way i can get 3g working on my unlocked atat tilt 2. im using cincinnati bell wireless now but im thinking bout switching phones because i cant use 3g thx.
Snooping around the net, I've found that Bell Wireless in Cincinatti uses 1700/2100 MHz bands for 3G. Both bands are needed for 3G (one is upload, one is download), similar to T-Mob.
The At&T Tilt2 isn't compatible with the 1700 MHz band. Its a hardware issue, so no software or tweaks are going to get you 3G. If you get an unlocked T-Mob branded version of the Touch Pro 2, it should work on your network's 3G.
This should be in the General section, not ROM Development.

I haven't found any answers so I've decided to "ask the audience".
To my understanding the Rogers Canada network uses 850/1900 for it's 3G primarily 850. Is this true?
I haven't found a mention of a North American release date for the GSM Diamond. Anyone know the date? I don't expect it till around Christmas.
I'm looking at an Australian Diamond that uses the 850/2100 bands for 3G. Will the support of the 850 band be enough to function on the Rogers network or does the phone have to support both bands for 3G to function on the network?
only gsm 850 works on my diamond. i think its 1900 for 3g
I have an European Diamond which works on the rogers network but I get GSM/EDGE but to my horror no 3G
Looking around only on a few sites can I find any mention of what works and what doesn't the closest information I could find is from this link:

NextG phones are 850/2100 capable, so you'll be right on most 3G networks...

and they go back and forth so I'm not sure what to believe and I don't think I want to buy another Diamond just to find it won't work either.

Can anyone confirm or deny and of this?
The question is will a Australian phone with the 850/2100 3G radio function on the Roger network?

I have the Australian version (850/2100 MHz) and it supports the Telstra 3G Network. Can't see why it wouldn't work on other 850/2100 MHz 3G network.
To my understanding the Canadian Rogers network is a 850/1900 network.
Does the phone need to support both bands or will one suffice?
Rogers Diamond
I had an EU/Asia Diam and I never manage to get 3G connection. Sold the phone and bought a Rogers branded diam and by default I see 3G connection all the time on the top network status. But now I'm thinking of going back to an EU/Asia version unless I can flash my Rogers branded diam with a better ROM.
Hey guys i just recently bought a HTC Touch Diamond unlocked US version and was wondering is there a way i can get the 3G to work? i know the T-Mobile's 3G network is still under construction but the new HTC Dream seems to have access to the 3G with T-Mobile. I heard T-mobile uses the 1700mhz and 2100mhz 3G bands, And that Touch Diamond does not support the 1700 mhz band???
The U.S. 3G Diamond will definitely not play nice with T-Mobile's 3G network, and there's really no way around it because of the hardware it has. Sorry. The Dream/G1 was designed specifically for T-Mobile, so it supports T-Mobile's 1700 3G band, natch.
I realize topic has been mentioned several times previously, but I think I'm missing something and haven't been able to find the answer yet.
T-mobile's 3G runs on 1700/2100 (per the Tmobile website).
The TyTn II can work on 850/1900/2100 frequencies.
(The Tmobile G1 works on 1700/2100)
I've seen several threads here about trying to mod the TyTn (via hardware/software/rom upgrades) to work on 1700, but I'm missing the purpose if it can connect to Tmobile's 3G on the 2100 frequency.
So does the TyTn need to connect on *both* the 1700 and 2100 fequencies to connect to the 3G network?? Or does Tmobile use the 1700 in some markets while using 2100 in other markets?
Thanks for shedding some light!
(I'm using TyTn II purchased in Asia (unlocked) with Tmob's flexpay with unlimited internet, here in metro DC area)
It won't ever work. Sorry. You have to connect to both: 2100 to transmit and 1700 to receive. Also, tmobile's 2100 is different than everyone else's 2100 so you're screwed both ways.
Tytn II (tilt keyboard)
same problem here. I cannot believe it. how is that this 3G is different everywhere you go? on the box of this phone it says that he has basically all all the different bands you need. and still it doesn't work? i have not tried yet to go downtown Atlanta, since i am not sure here in alpharetta the signal is deployed for sure. nobody knows anything at Tmobile. please let me know if you have any additional news about it, otherwise this phone is going on sale on ebay. period. thanx, Paul.
Hi everyone--
I have an unmodded, "unlocked" at&t tilt that has a t-mobile gsm sim chip in it. I'm still running the WM6 that came in it, and can't seem to get access to the 3G speeds I know this thing is capable of. I've tried numerous software apps to "force" the phone to go 3G, to no avail. T-Mobile customer "support"--HAA! tells me I need a t-mobile phone to be able to take advantage of the 3G speeds. Needles to say, I feel this is a bunch of malarkey. T-Mobile put out this phone, did they not, and called it the "MDA Vario III"? Is there a rom for the mda that I could flash this thing with so I could get the 3G speeds? Or another rom perhaps? Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Unfortunately, the malarkey is the truth! Because T-Mobile runs its 3G network on a different band than the Tilt is capable of! Sorry, this also effects me as I am a T-Mobile customer using a Tilt as well! My advice is to use Opera mini 4.2 for your internet browsing it is very fast on the Edge network!
The T-Mobile you refer to is European
It does not run on the same 3G as the US T-Mobile. The US T-Mobile uses 1700 Mhz and 2100 Mhz, I believe. The Tilt does not use the 1700 Mhz band. There was a rumor going around that there would be a new version of the Kaiser (KAIS140) that would use the US T-Mobile 3G bands but it was never released for sale. I don't think it will since it is pretty much at the end of the life cycle of the phone. They (HTC) have moved on to newer models with more features. If you would like to use the US 3G and live in an area with 3G, The T-Mobile G1 (HTC Dream) uses T-Mo 3G and has its own section on this forum.
bleh. newer models should still freaking tilt. that is the coolest thing about this phone. and it's pretty solid construction. my friend has had his over a year and its still going strong.

I thought the Tilt accessed 3G through it's tri band frequencies 850/1900/2100Mhz so that it could connect to most 3G networks worldwide, making it a world business tool for users?

True but T-Mobile uses the 1700 for upload and 2100 for download. ATT uses 1900 for both.
since the tilt is 3g, if i unlock it and use it on Tmobile does it still pick up tmobiles 3g or is it different? thanks alot
It won't grab T-Mo's 3G. The Tilt can find "standard" 3G, in the 1900 band, but T-Mo's runs on the 1700 band. There's a hardware difference as well dealing with the radio.
Basically, you'd be stuck on EDGE, like the rest of us Tilt users are.
ya i thought they were different thanks alot for the fast reply
