mobiman2008 has it in his hands so I'm guessing it will.
I feel a little cheated as said in the MoDaCo forum...my Touch Pro already looks long in the tooth compared to this. I'm liking the idea of a 3.5mm jack, higher screen res and by the looks of it, internal storage AND SD slot.

oh, that's fantastic! damn i wish i'd of waited then and got this
I was so looking forward to getting the Fuze, but all that excitement just went out of the window. I definitely plan on picking this up instead. Hopefully it will be a world phone and be 3g US compatible with the euro version right out of the box!
looks nice
but happy with my diamond
looks too big.
Yeah, it's clearly to compete directly with the iphone but I think the iphone is too big. Also there's no keyboard, and from using the iphone, i really don't like that.
"115mm x 62.8mm x 12mm"
Lol, does it come with a backpack also? I thought it was a phone, not a notebook.

One could also say that this would compete with the Blackberry Thunder as this one looks very similar to the Thunder in terms of the button layout and the screen.
All it would need is multitouch capabilities and then I would ReallyReallyReallyReallyReallyReally want one!
While I most probably won't buy it, it's just annoying that HTC have released like 3-4 models in the past couple of months. I will definitely stick with my diamond (mainly because of the size factor) but this thing definitely looks great but a bit too big for my taste.
Damn, you made me regret for buying my normal sized diamond . The screen is just to small to navigate without using the stylus..
HTC are cruel to me ive been waiting for the Touch pro... then they pull this out there hat... :/ I may have to wait a little longer. Even though theres no qwerty in it.
Looks crap, no dpad??? WM is too crap to not have a dpad.
yeah i saw that already.. mm i prefer my diamond. Is looks cooler

Its not that big, its definitely smaller than a Touch Pro. For comparisons sake, here is the volume in mm^3 of HTCs more recent devices in size order:
diamond ......................51 x 102 x 11.5 millimetres..........59823
CDMA Diamond..............51x101x14mm..........................72114
HTC Touch HD.............62.8 x 115 x 12 millimetres..........86664
HTC Touch Pro..............51 x 102 x 18.05 millimetres........93896.1
HTC Touch Cruise..........58x110x15.5mm........................98890
TyTn II........................59 x 112 x 19 millimetres............125552
I think the Touch Cruise/Touch Pro dimensions are right on the border, and the TyTn II is just overly portly (i.e. a brick). You add to that the fact that the Touch Pro has a 4" screen and you've really got something serious. I hope that it has GPS, b/c that would make great use for that screen. The only thing I lament is the lack of a scroll wheel or jog dial on it.
I have a Touch HD now and I'm thinking about moving to an Xperia. I really like how the X1 looks but I haven't played around with it so I'm not familiar with the software. The things I really like about the Touch HD are the calendar/tasks access from the home screen, and the weather feature. Do you all think I'd like the X1, would it be a good phone to switch to? Or what about waiting for the X2, from what I've seen it looks basically the same.
Hmm. It seems like you like HTC's software (touchflo etc.) Therefore you will have to live with custom roms. I mean you almost find the same software for Xperia as you used for your HD. But...to be honest...you have to have your hands on it before you decide to switch..
They're pretty similar phones, so it'll be more of a step sideways, than a step forward. The X2 has some improvements, but nothing that would stop me from buying the X1 over it (except TV out, but no biggie). Everything you have on the HD can almost certainly be on the X1, so its really just the looks and keyboard.
As you know X1 looks awesome, but keyboard may disappoint, although its perfectly fine once your used to it.
Personally I don't think theres enough of a difference to switch.
Camera on SE is much better too....
How is the software on the X1, does it have the features I mentioned, is it easy to use, how do you all like it?
Also, the X1 is definitely thicker than the HD, do you think it feels too big in your pocket or is it fine?

Firstly, X1 seems like a small device to me.
Looks like it's kinda thick on paper, but finally - its REALLY COMPACT.
I'm always surprised it almost seems like a normal phone in the pocket and I love this fact! It's like a bonus here....
As for your software questions: many many users here just installed HTC TF3D on their devices so the functionality would be the same in this case as HTC HD - you have the same thing on X1.
But if you want to use SonyEricsson solutions: their SE panels allow you
to customize WHAT is on screen in more ways than HTC, so you can display tasks events or calendar ones on the homescreen - or not. You can also set on the homescreen the applications icons or attribute any application to one of the two hardkeys. So absolutely plenty of options here.
As for weather - it's better on HTC but SE also gives you selected city/cities weather and current temp. displayed on homescreen.
For any detailed weather I use SPB Weather anyways....
Hope this is helpful!
One little thing that might be an irritant to an HD user is that the screen is recessed. Not a deal-breaker for me, but many users have expressed disappointment at this.
It makes using a software keyboard a bit hard when you want to hit q or p.
And well, after using the Xperia for quite some time, the recessed screen only irritates when hitting q or p, and that's only when I'm trying to type without visual aid, so the recessed screen is pretty much a non-issue, just a bitxh to clean.
Edit : TBH I feel like trying a Touch HD myself - HD2 is way too expensive (and huge) and N900 is not available in SG - and the reception of the Xperia is balls in my house. Hairy monkey balls preserved in 9000+ year old vinegar, what with it keep losing signal whenever I touch it. Outside - no issue. But I spend most of my time inside, so...

Thanks for all that info, it sounds like I'll like the SE interface and even if I don't I'd just be able to install TF3D anyway.

How big a deal is the recessed screen? Do you get used to it after a few days or is it constantly annoying you?

This is constantly annoying me, because i don't like the hardware keyboard (too small). It's a pain to use scroll bars or touch anything in the edges without the stylus.
But i suggest you to try it out somewhere.

Not a problem for me at all. Even me hitting corners with fingers (X button and Start Menu) is fine, but depending on how you hold phone, and size of fingers or thumb it may be an issue. If you can, a few minutes in-hand should let you know if it will be an issue.
Again, not an issue for me, but give it a feel before you commit to an Xperia
Just before you sell your HD an Buy an X1 ,think about it...
I have an X1 Silver,9 Months old...now i have to send it back for Warranty issues
6 Cracks on the Cover (some are really annoying..)and a broken MIC told me....NEVER BUY ME AGAIN
And I Obey...
don´t sell your HD for an Xperia,it IS really a nice Phone,ok....but on comparison on the Problem you´ll get it is not worthy!
had a hd before my x1 now. With the stuff i do, the x1 is more usefull for me.
like a lots of and fast sms, msn.
good luck

What do you mean "6 cracks on the cover and a broken mic"? Like you dropped the phone and cracked it or what?
Cracks are usually a manufacturing defect, a well known one to the X1. It usually occurs in the battery compartment, and stylus holder. It doesn't do any real damage to the phone or affect use of it whatsoever, but its just a bit disappointing to have. Long thread about it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=447211
In fact, although SE will usually just repair the cracks under warranty, and my phone had a bit of crack, I didn't bother sending it in until another issue popped up. SE in Australia are pretty good btw, they sent a courier to pick the phone up, waiting on it to be sent back, its been 3 days.
Not sure about the broken mic though.
If your buying X1 used, its viable to try it out before you sell HD and if you don't like it, just sell it again.
Well I was all set to get the HD7 on launch but I may have to hold back a bit after this review. While I will certainly check it out and make up my own mind, after reading this I feel a little disapointed.

also read that review and had similar thoughts to yourself, but i went ahead and bought one this morning.
Glad I did, it's an awesome phone and despite what engadget says it feels really solid and great build quality.
Thats great to know!
Engadget have also reviewed the Mozart (7/10) and the Omnia 7 (8/10) - having been following the HD7 for weeks - I am now tempted by the Omnia - that screen looks gorgeous.
The only problem - its not on O2

hows the screen
yeah i've switched it on and played with it a bit. I have to wait for my number to port over before i can really get stuck in (no wifi or data connection at the moment).
the screen look surprisingly well, defiantly not as washed out as it did in the Engadget video.
And that's coming from a Legend with a amoled screen. Blacks are not as deep as the legend but you really have to try hard to notice that.

yup, all o2 ireland & uk hd7's are 16gb

Same here, despite the lacklustre engadget review I've gone out and bought the HD7 anyway. Physically holding and using the phone changes your mind immediately. The screen is great , and huge (having come from using a Diamond 2).
And yeah the available storage on mine says 13.72GB as well. And definitely no microSD card that I can see, so there won't be any updating to 32GB or anything.

Yes the phone is locked. I tried my Meteor Ireland sim card in it and it is looking for an unlock code. I'm sure it's only a matter of time till some clever lad on these forums figures out a way to get around that.
The screen contrast really looks crappy compared to the Omnia and also the built-quality doesn't seem to compete with HD2 I got an HD7 anyway, because my primary choice (Omnia 7) will only be available with branding in Germany in the near future.

Sorry I totally disagree, both the screen quality and build quality are superior to the HD2. The screen is far brighter with richer colours. I think the Engadget review is extremely poor. The phone is great, very responsive and the OS is a breath of fresh air.
I've just got mine from the O2 shop even after reading the engadget review. Suffice to say I made the right choice!
Lovely quality 'soft touch' plastic rear cover, sturdy flip out stand and great screen. The engadget screen comparison made it look washed out but in reality it has a quality silvery sheen to it that is only noticeable when viewed off axis. As phones are pretty much single user devices this shouldn't be an issue...
My Orange contract sim doesn't work but the giffgaff (.com) pay&go sim that came in the post while I was out is accepted without issue.
A few things to note:
There is an 'O2 Accent' tile colour shade option that is a light blue colour as well as the default selection of colours.
There is an O2 branded welcome screen after the initial HTC boot screen and before the Windows Phone 7 splash screen.
There is a 'Stocks', 'Sound Enhancer' and 'Photo Enhancer' tile onthe home screen as well as the HTC Hub. No other O2 branding is apparent.
Now, just got to find out how to remove the sim lock on this thing!

I have and you can see nothing of any storage, literally just battery and sim card, although to the left and right of the battery there are sticker like things were a 'non removable' SD may hide - but I won't be finding out while my HD7 is still in warranty haha.
I personally disagree with EnGadget. I have come from and HD2 to this phone and find the build quality is excellent (the metal edges feel really good in your hand) and the screen quality is brilliant.
Only problem I'm having at the moment is that the HTC apps have become unavailable to download although I'm hoping that this is just a teething problem atm...
I'm not sure how many people are BOTH HD2 and HD7 owners, but if you are, I would like your opinion: which one offers a better display? As far as I know, the hardware is completely the same (battery, processor, RAM, etc) but I am unsure about the display
Thank you!

TY jonno!
I have both and they clearly are not the same hardware. HD7 is a much brighter and clearer screen.
HD2 comes with a 65k color display, while hd7 supports 16 million colors.
You can clearly notice it at the first sight. Its more vibrant and alive.
Has anyone been able to compare it to the HTC Desire HD or one of the other HTC S-LCD screened devices such as the Mozart / Trophy?
I'd like to know how they compare as the Desire HD's screen is incredible and if the HD7 is even half as good I'd be completely content.

I have worked with desire hd, and seriously, the display aint any better than the one on HD7.
HD7's display is just as sharp and vibrant as the one on desire hd
Since there's such a huge difference between HD2 and HD7, how is it appeared to Samsung displays? Is the difference just as great?
Can you not get into a store and check them out side by side, in my opinion the best method for visually comparing differences.
Came from a Samsung to the HD7 and I can't see any noticeable difference, but thats the opinion of an old git with failing eyesight ;-)

Wow, that's fantastic!
I was incredibly impressed by the Desire HD's screen, it almost looked like a fake unit as the screen was right up on top of the device and it was all so clear.
It's going to be even harder to wait to get my HD7 now.
I have both phones and agree with one of the posters above. The screen on the HD7 is significantly better than the one on my HD2. Colors are brighter and more vibrant. Viewing angles are slightly improved. These were compared with the same images and WebPages on both phones.
The HD7 just looks better!

It might be the placebo effect they are experiencing. At one time I actually thought is was more washed out than the HD2's display. But I chalked it up to newness...not being broken-in yet. Nevertheless, both devices do have a gorgeous display, among the top level for LCD displays.

thank you for the video. very good comparison
When you watch the video, the verdict is easy. The HD7 screen is much brighter.
I don't know if I'm the only one, but I own an international HD2 and a T-Mobile US HD2, when you compare those screens the TMOUS HD2 screen is much brighter. So when even the various versions of HD2's are way different, how trustworthy is this video.
I think they are exactly the same.
If the HD7 is "brighter" than the HD2 it's probably because it is adjusted that way via a setting in the OS.
I discern no real difference between my HD2 and HD7.
I recently purchased a Sprint Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 and whenever I try to draw anything other than a horizontal or vertical line it is very wavy. It makes using a handwritten note taking app that works fine on my Viewsonic G Tablet almost unusable on the Sansung GTab. Can any of you draw angled lines reasonable straight or do I possibly have a bad tablet? If I try to draw a line at a 45 deg angle it is extremely wavy regardless of how careful I am in trying to make it straight. It does this on various programs I've tried. Attached is an example from 'Note Everything'.
Can't somebody tell me if their Tab behaves the same or differently than mine? I guess I may have to make the trip to a store to see if a demo unit does the same thing as mine.

Thanks for your response. That is unfortunate. One of the main reasons I purchased the Galaxy Tab was to take notes with a stylus using TabNotes and the screen doesn't work well with either finger or stylus. It works very well on my Viewsonic G Tablet but the 10.1" screen is a little to big and the portrait viewing angles are really bad. Thanks for the tip on searching for 'screen shaking', I tried a bunch of other terms and couldn't find anything so I'll give that a try.

No. I tried like 7 different apps, but no one worked like I hoped. I even tried two different styli but still, I find swype to be easier and faster.
I'm running Overcome Gold 2.0 by the way, may be that's why it is a little bit different.
