while I await for my hd7, i was curious to know if anyone is working on porting windows mobile 6.5.x on the hd7 while wp7 is growing and progressing as a new operating system. I think that it would be nice to go back and forth between winmo and wp7, for our different needs until wp7 is a fully robust operating system. is anyone working on this?

Are you for REAL ?????
Once you get your HD7 in your hands, you won't be asking this question anymore
My first reaction was to scoff at this, but I do see his point. My daily driver is the HD7 but I still have to keep my HD2 for satnav and SPB time. It's a pain, but once those services are ported over WP7 I won't be needing WM.
I don't think anyone will be working on a port for Windows Mobile, they are too busy working on jailbreaking WP7. If you need WM, get a HD2 or something similar, they will be flooding ebay soon
I hope someone will do it, if it works on the HD7 it will work in the Pro 7 and i could get a modern device with a keyboard.
Im sorry but I rather use the maps on the HD7 then have to deal with WM6.5 that has Satnav or any other app you might use it for. I give all credit to the developers for making the hd2 way better than what it was suppose to be but after all the roms I tested on it along with porting Android, I still had to deal with the lags, freezes, and just couldnt use the phone for the basic reasons. to me theres just no way you can compare hd2 to hd7, its like comparing a brand new painted 1990 car to a brand new 2011 car.

jejeej if it has not been achieved in this forum, I think that is not achieved in either ... I think the confusion is not a forum, could be the phone
Windows Mobile can't be ported on the Tattoo. And that's that. End of story.
Don't see why not.
WM on the Tattoo: The sequel..
Its an HTC device and uses mostly the same components as other models.
Porting isn't really what is needed here. Just need to get it to run.
That goes vice versa.
edit:
Ah, you are an Mac user. Then this will be hard
my 2 cents:
If you wanted WM, you should had bought a Touch2.
That's the WM Tattoo cousin, with same specs and all...
Cheers
Why make windows 95/3.11 run on an mobile?
Why make Android run on other htc devices?
Why make linux run on other htc devices?
Why make WM run on the Tattoo?
Comm'n guy's don't be so reluctant, we are developers here.
i have seen on endgadget or gizmodo(i dont remembeer) few days a go a kirf of htc tatto running win mo 6.5.3

wm on tattoo == a step backwards in technological advancement
that would be about the worthless thing that could happen to the tattoo
What technological advancement are you referring to..?
If you are referring to the fact that Android is Google,
then please enlighten us what so great that we need to
spare the Tattoo from Windows Mobile..
Developers are indiscriminate when it come to brand.
I have these devices because I love the hardware and we can
do stuff with it. We can develop, experiment, tool them and if done
right, make money on them.
Admire htc for developing these devices for us, not Google, MS or Apple.
Serioulsy, what the **** ?
You have an Open-source firmware on your phone, and you want to remplace it with a closed-source ?
You've a firmware totally independent of any firm, or society, and you want to remplace it with a totally-dependent-of-microsoft-firmware ?
You are root on your phone, and you want to change for a phone on wich you are just a user ?
Seriously !
I think I understand what ebsbow is trying to explain to us. IMO, as long as it is for development purpose only, then I can agree. But I don't feel that WM can be fully implemented on the Tattoo, and don't think it'll be suitable for day-to-day use.
I think ebsbow got a point here. This is a dev site, not a fanboy site which support the back of a specific os just because it is better (according to some). If there is a way to implement windows mobile on the tattoo, then why not? Where is the harm in that? You dont like it, then dont use it. Itll be just a break through.
If you happen to hate a specific os, it is just a personal opinion. Just hold back from clicking on the forum. Xda dev is about development, not about refraining development just because some dont like the direction in which it is pointing.
But for now I think that porting windows mobile to the tattoo is far away. We are still in a very undeveloped stage of getting root. And also, thanks to all the devs who invested their spare time in this, a huge work has been done. Lets just hope that we soon get a stable state of root which doesnt get lost on reboot and that give us true root capabilities.
I don't think the stock Tattoo having root has anything to do with installing a new OS. Then again, I ain't a developer, and I don't know **** about developing WM for an officially unsupported device.
Of course mate. I just meant that the devs have their plate full right now

Okay, I'll release my windows mobile curse and admit that I do have some thoughts into Windows Mobile on the tattoo:
To be honest, Windows Mobile could be ported to the Tattoo/Click. WM could live on a SD Card, and the bootloader (HardSPL?) bootstraps the code from the SDCard to boot the WM environment or have a boot menu saying "Press Left to boot Android 1.6/2.x or right to boot Windows Mobile 5/6/7"
However, you'll face these problems:
1. Driver Support, you'd have to hack WM extensively to get support for phone and related components unless the drivers could be ported from the Touch/Touch2.
2. Not a native WM device. This could lead to Windows Mobile crying it's eyes out when the device crashes. "Mummy, I want my device rebooted". (lol bad joke, but hey )
3. Apps. Would they support the Tattoo's screen res? Parts could be missing off the screen and whatnot.
4. SD Card wear and tear. Could WM burn that MicroSD card up if you use it extensively? Windows can really tear up a SSD HDD if you abuse it, but a MicroSD has a tiny chip that runs the show.
5. Who's gonna support you when your WM/Android hybrid phone blows up and you need a replacement, and HTC rejects it due to "unsupported mods"?
Anyway, that's my few cents. I hope this helps you WM fangirls/fanboys.

OK HOLD ON, I know this has been asked about WM 6.5 before (which I do not think would be nice to port to the N1...) so please do not get all angry as I have seen others get on those threads...
WP7 seems like it will have some nice games...which has initially brought this thought up... so I would like to know if there may be a possibility of having windows phone 7 on the N1 ?
Those of you who hate WM, ...I hate it too -BUT it does have some nice features, at least it is easily customizable? haha...IDK, I do like android more but just would like to be able to at least play around with windows phone 7 when it comes out without having to switch phones....
you have to admit -the game they show for the WP7 preview is pretty sick looking, and it is just a beginning so just imaging what may come out in the future ?
Now why would I bastardize my beloved N1 with Windows Phone7?....Just to see if it could be done! Hell Yeah I would do it But only if T-mobile doesn't offer a good WP7 device before a dev put WP7 on the N1.
Would be a neat thing for someone to try. But once again, someone would have to sit around and reverse engineer the OS.
That's not necessarily true. HTC will be creating dozens of win7 phones, at least one of them is going to be based on the current n1/desire/evo/incredible platform.
Hi, would it be possible to buy the HD7 (Trophy) and change the rom to WM6,5?
I like the phone and its size but my company's email software and some other softwares are not WM7 compatible. Is it possible to install WM6.5 onto the Trophy or should I just get an older phone (probably HD2)?...
Get an older phone if you want to use 6.5.
trade me, i've got a brand new, never used hd2 . j/j, i hate at$t.
HD7 with WinMo 6.5 is HD2

The hardware of the hd7 and the hd2 are almost identical, but the hd2 is actually better. It has a removable sd slot also.
The HD2 had to be redesigned because the Windows phone 7 OS is actually a silverlight runtime environment and needed different hardware and that means different drivers. There is currently no way to use the hardware on the hd7 with wm6.5.
I assume you ask this because you want the flexibility of third party apps...
I just went and downloaded Microsoft Expressions Blend 4 and started to write my own apps for my phone
Just get yourself an HD2...same performance

Thanks
Super thanks to all of you!
I hoped to get an answer that I can install WM6.5 until there are some apps available for WM7 from my company. And then reinstall WM7. I guess it is not that easy... I will get the HD2 then...
Thank you for all the answers

What exactly are you asking? HTC 7 Pro?
The HTC HD7 is a windows mobile phone (Windows Mobile 7) it's really the HD3, but htc jumped to 7 to keep the number synonymous with WM7.... to avoid confusion, although people are still confused. Here's an easy way to look at it;
htc HD2 ---> WM6.5 OS
htc HD7 ---> WM7 (sometimes referred to as Windows Phone 7) OS
Seems you are confused a little..there is no Windows Mobile 7, there is Windows Phone and Windows Mobile..and that ended with 6.5.
But there is no other modern hardware with full keyboard..so the 7 Pro needs Windows Mobile.
When someone buys a Win 7 phone and wants to install 6.5 to get productivity then I really think MS have a major problem or the guy who started this thread is having a lend of us.
I would love to have 6.5.x on my HD7 dual boot
there are a lot of apps available for 6.5.x including multiple browsers copy and paste that i could use while we wait for wp7 to grow in functionality. At this point it would be ideal to be able to dual boot with 6.5.x and wp7, I could do things I need to do on 6.5 and then go back wp7 for the most part.
Are there any news about WM 6.5 ROM for the HD7? I have so many apps for 6.5 with no eqivalent in WM7. It would be great to have WM 6.5 on the HD7. I like the feeled speed compared to the HD2 and it feels easier to swipe with the finger, it have a faster response...

The HD7 feels faster because it runs WP7. Its processor runs at the same speed as the HD2's. The HD2 feels slower because WM6.5 is a big bag of smelly animal poo.
First of all there is no such thing as WM7, it was aborted in favour of WP7 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Mobile).
I suggest posting in the WP7 Rom development section your requests rather than here. Considering XDA-Devs is working on craking WP7 itself and when that happens possibly Android, I think the dead OS Windows Mobile will be low down on their list.
I also think dual booting is not all what it's made out to be! I dual-boot my HD2 to Android, and no longer use WM6.5. Why you ask? Well WM 6.5 is dead, most of the services (if not all) for WM6 are available on Android.
If you really must have Windows Mobile, best option is to get a HD2, it has very good support for WM, much better than any fudgeware that could be put on the HD7.
I have my HD7, my old HD2 still uses copilot and now a few apps only found in the Android market. I purchased a simple Pay as you go SIM to keep that phone alive.
I hope its possible soon..the HTC 7 Pro is on the market soon..and there is no alternative to it...
Give me strength!!!!!
What planet are you guys on? MS has switched development to WP7 and are not likley to support WM6 (maybe something in the numbering may give the game away here [sarcasm])
No matter how good the guys at XDA are, they are not going to crack WP7 overnight, it took them over 2 months to crack HD2 last year and that was on technology that didn't differ too much from WM6.1. WP7 is from the ground up.
As for the HD 7 Pro, it will come with WP7, nor Fairy phone 6 or anything else. And guess what? It's not even released yet so no point in asking people to crack it before it's been released.
http://www.htc.com/www/product/7pro/specification.html
Can one of the Mods close this useless thread or move it over to the HD7 Dev thread so all the Devs can laugh at it?
win mobile 6.5 on htc hd7
In reality, this requirement is due to the fact that many programs such as ACR (audio call recorder) and many other contacts backup is not running on win mobile 7. That's why I consider it important to install win 6.5 on hd7, at least temporarily.
thanks
as titile,
if HD7 can runing wm6.5, this will be fast wm system, it's will be a good news!
The HD7 is almost identical hardware to the HTC HD2 which comes stock with WinMo 6.5. It would probably run slower on the HD7 if someone took the time to port it. But really, with the HD2 in existence and readily available on places like eBay and Craigslist (for under $200 I might add), why would you want this?
Not trying to say that someone won't attempt it, but it is probably very close to the bottom of their list. Windows Phone 7 was designed to run smoothly on the Snapdragon processor. That's why our phones fly. M$ strict control over specs has definitely paid off. Windows Mobile 6.5 would run the exact same on our phones as it does on the HD2.
I have just upgraded to the HD7 from the diamond 2. Even thou WP7 is faster. I would rather stick to WM6.5 if anyone can give me a link to a HD2 rom for the HD7 I would be very happy. I know the HD2 has 2 more face buttons, but all we need is [back] [windows] and [home/red] to work. either that or I’m going to have to see if someone wants to swap a brand new HD7 for a well looked after HD2 lol still using my diamond 2 at the mo cos HTC Sense rocks! hd2 can't do 720p video because 6.5 can't do 720p video. It is an OS limitation, proven by the fact they have 720p video working on the h2 running android.
I agree with the others, sell the hd7, and find a hd2. I don't think the hd7 will be running winmo anytime soon.

Does anyone know how I can get a Nokia 3210 rom running on HD7? This is will was be goodz timez newz!
Correct me if im wrong!
Isnt this a developer site?...Its called XDA Developers right? So why on god's earth are people flaming people for creativity questions?...If someone wants windows mobile 6.5 on a WP7 device what do you care? Just because you don't think its a good idea doesn't give you the right to flame, I know personally I like having options on a device that is not locked down from exploring those options the very reason I chose windows mobile over apple devices in the past because of the ability to customize, take that away and in my opinion the device kind of sucks....If that was the case though and we couldn't mod our devices and ROM's and stuff then why would we even come to XDA?....Phones come with operational manuals in the box with the device, but nobody knocks people over and over for asking questions that are printed in the manual, To the people wanting a different operating system on your WP7 device don't let closed minded people stop you from exploring the capabilities of your Device....That's my opinion on the subject, I would like a Windows Mobile 6.5 Duty ROM and a Stock WP7 ROM and Android all on my device if possible I think that would be bad a$$ but that's my opinion, so don't let the trolls discourage you is all I'm saying...Not everybody has $200 to throw around, and some of us have wives that don't allow blowing money on stuff every time a new device hits the market, so the ability to customize is what makes a phone so fun in my opinion cause you can turn something old into something new.
I still have my HD2, it's sitting right next to my computer. I'm using a *cringe* Cliq 2 atm for work. But love my HD2 to pieces. It has the ability, thanks to devs here, to run WM6.5, WP7, Android, and actually a couple other OS. I'm patiently waiting for my HD7 to come in the mail. I'm sure it's possible to get WM6.5 on the HD7, but as others have said, it's probably on the bottom of the list for devs. Getting WP7 onto the HD2 was more of an "I told you so" to MS that it's possible to get it onto an unsupported device.
got stuck with win7 phone on t mo....android port to hd7 is the way to go. i hate hd7 no customizations, and very bland....got stuck with the hd7 due to hd2 bein stolen recently and the hd7 is the only phone close to hd2.
The thing that *really* annoys me, is these people who hate WP7 (yet buy/own a WP7 device (wtf?)) come to what i would like to consider a respectable developers forum, and ***** and moan... "oh no i can't customise it!", "oh no i can't flash another OS to it!", "Oh no I got it becuase it looks like/has the same HW as the HD2 but it's not a HD2 at all!"
If you *really* dislike the phone/OS, then don't bother wasting time (and other's) by posting repetative threads on here. Trade your phone for one that you want. Right now here in the UK the HD7 is selling on the bay for about £250, whereas the HD2, about £200. So sell your phone, buy a HD2, and make £50 in the process. And leave us happy owners who enjoy the phone/OS, to do just that and enable it to progress instead of go backwards. Simplez.

so if i got professional phone being fast is not important, i must do whatever i want with my phone even washing dishes thats why i carry big cell phone which is 162gr

The truth...
Buy a newer version and want to downgrade to lower version...
I never do that.
Windows 7 => Kick Ass Windows XP
Windows Phone 7 => Kick Ass Windows Mobile 6.5 => Kick Ass iOS=> Kick ass Symbian , quite same and little bit lower than Android because WP7 is still new.
I have used both HTC HD2, iPhone 3G,and now HTC HD7.
HD2 on eBay ...
I am looking at getting the HD7 and putting WM6.5 on it because I have hundreds of $$ invested in software that will NOT work in WP7.
On eBay the HD2 phones are over $500 in Canada, and shipping for me from the US always includes heavy duty charges, so the $200-$300 HD2 available in the US are not really an option for me.
I can get a HD7 from Bell for $99.
Don't tell me to "just get a cheaper HD2" because the HD7 is far cheaper for me.
Hi everybody
as probably even rocks know, cotulla joined htc one development, and he wrote that probably one of his goals is to port WM6.5 on htc one. Can anyone please explain me what benefits could give this porting?
I know windows mobile, I used it since WM6.1 and I had sony ericcson xperia x1 and htc hd2. I loved some of its aspects..but isn't it a little outdated to be used nowdays? (bad graphics and fluidity, no pinch to zoom and almost NO updated apps because even the marketplace is closed..)
Why not? You had the HD2. They ported over every version of Android, Windows 95, Windows 98, Linux, Ubuntu, etc.
May even give devs the chance to learn more about the infrastructure of the One if they can manage to get other OS's to run on it.

Yeah but a thing that I noticed with hd2 that (beyond WM6.5) "only" android and windows phone 7 could be used as a daily roms..the ther OSs were quite an experiment. I mean...for a "normal" user, what could offer Windows Mobile on htc one?
I can't understand if there's the possibility to "rewrite" windows mobile to make it daily adoptable for common users, or it's an "experiment" useful for developers
I think wm6.5 is base of wp7.
wm6.5 may be functionally worked as 'root' of wp7 and 8. Also, Cotulla worked with wm6.5 hd2 at first. It is just starting of cotulla's legend...
