SD Card as Rom drive? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 Windows Mobile 6 Upgrading

With himalaya's tiny Rom drive i'm wondering if it is posible to use the SD Card as its Rom Drive.
In other words, replacing Himalaya's internal Rom drive with one partitioned on the SD Card and Running the phones OS from there.
Is that posible?
If so how?
It would be nice as we then, 'could' be able to instal some of those nice but large Rom's on our Himalaya's

Flashing ROM via SD Card

Hi. My Windows computer is on it's last leg; I'm not sure if it will be able to run long enough for me to flash a ROM and I don't want my phone to break. Which brings me to my question:
Can you install ROMs from the Storage Card?
Thanks.
your device must be HardSPL'd.
for the Herald, drag the .nbh file to the root of the card after renaming it HERAIMG.nbh.
SDHC cards are not compatible, and the larger the partition that the .nbh is on (usually the main one), the longer it will take to flash.
Be patient. You will think that something has gone wrong, but nothing has. It takes a really really really long time (like 10-15 mins)(for real, not like the RUU)
is it better?
is it better to flash it to the sd carD?

Your not quite flashing it to the sd card, the sd card acts as the img file needed for the phone to accept the flash. Another thing is to make sure the sd card is formatted fat32. Personally I have a 1gb card that I partitioned down to 100mb formatted fat32 for my flashing needs
its not necessarily better or worse to flash it from the sd, its just useful if your device doesnt feel like connecting for some reason.
thanks! i appreciate the quick response.

I had to HardSPL my phone to install the ROM I'm using now.. once you do it once is the phone permenately HardSPL'd, or do u have to run the HardSPL everytime u change ROMs?
Thanks.

I understand that Flash rom with sd card is possible, but hardspl with sd card is possible too? Thanks

will it work if it's formatted fat16? how long do you think it would take for a 2gb card (1 partition) to flash a rom?
thanks,

TYTN2 micros sd card not recognised

Help,
After i flashed my KAISER i have a problem. The sd card is not recognised anymore. Is there a solution for this problem?
I hope so, otherwise i have a brick
Storage card problem
I always used a 4 gig card, just tried an 512 mb card, and that one was recognised. Strange isn't it?
First, which method did you use to flash your new ROM?
If you used the USB method to flash your new ROM, did you remove your SD card during the flash process?
If you used the SD card method to flash your new ROM, did you do a hard reset with your SD card inserted?
Second, do you have an SD card reader for your computer? I would probably try to verify that the file system and data are intact on your SD card. If you have an SD card reader, you can also use it to reformat your card.
If none of this is helpful, provide some more information to fill in the gap between your microSD card working properly and not showing up on your phone.
Re
I flashed to TPCV5.1 full today. No sd in my phone.
My cars reader in the computer doesn't recognise the sd card either.
Strange thing is , when i use an other 4 gig sd card, the phone still doesn't recognise it, my card reader on my computer does, so why not on my phone.
I had a 2 gig sd card, and put all the data again on it, and it's working.
Stilli have a problem that my phone won't recognise a 4 gig sd card.
So far my story.
Does seem odd. What file system is your 4GB card formatted with? If it shows up as "RAW" or anything, I would definately format it to FAT32.
Edit: I was referring to your "other" 4GB card. I don't think I have any advice for the original one.

micro SD smaller than before- ??

hi guys I got weird problem- my micro SD card is, or should I rather say was, 4GB. after some ROM installing I observed that its not a 4gb anymore, but 2gb. and its not about collecting trash, its just maximal capacity. Can some1 tell me what to do?
1. I dont have memory card reader in PC so dont ask me do to that okay?
2. should I do sth before installing new rom? of course HardSPL is done. But between installing 2 different roms? I used to copy the installation file Kovsimg.nbh on card and did standard prodecure- switch off the phone etc but I guess its a mistake isnt it?
thanks in advance

keep the card in your phone and connect to pc with usb cable in card reader mode.
Format card.
If still dont work you got a fake/pirate micro sd
How did you format it ?
On the official SD Association web site http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter/ there is the following statement:
"SD or SDHC memory card file systems formatted with generic operating system formatting software do not comply with official SD memory card requirements and optimum performance may not be experienced."
The site also provide an SD card formatter program, fully compliant with SD Association specifications, but, unfortunately for you, it runs only on PC, so you need a card reader.
I had the same problem some time ago, with a 2GB full size SD formatted with my iPaq and recognized as 1GB, this tool fixed it.
If you connect your device to PC as a card reader, as stated above, it should work.
Go to Settings / Connections / USB to PC and choose Disk Drive. At least, my Xperia, and many HTC have this control panel.

you don't have your rom installed on sd but in device memory, sd simply contains rom image meaning a change in sd capacity has nothing to do with having to reflash a rom
so go ahead and replicate your sd content on the new card and uou should be fine
oh well ok....thnx a lot...this really helps....

[Q] Internal SD card...

Does someone here know if internal sd card is a normal micro sd??? It can be replaced??
This is because the internal sd of my captivate is corupted, so i guess i need to replace it, so it is easy to do it???
Thanks in advance...
I've seen many posts here from people trying to flash a ROM to their external sd because the internal one was broken or inaccessible. I believe the internal is a soldered chip and not replaceable. So if yours is broken, you can't use that one but it is possible to use an external sd as system. Search xda should give pointers.
