She said it fell just a few inches onto a hard surface, not sure what part of the phone made impact.
Says she has done the following:
battery pull for at least a min
motorola troubleshooter
attempt to do a hard reset, but nothing comes on screen...just backlight
does get power, the buttons and keyboard light up when first plugging it in never see the boot screen
after a min or so i get haptic feedback from only the screen - not the buttons
me: is it like your phone boots up and it thinks its on so you could navigate to settings but just cant see it
her: yes
Any ideas? She's unrooted, ftr. Looking for any helpful tips at all about how to get her phone back. It'd really make her day and I'd get to look all SMRT for helping her to get a solution which could translate into other rewards
yes, tell her to call motorala and RMA it.
That sh|t is broken.

OKay, so I have had My Tmo(USA) MDA (HTC wizard) forapproximately 13 days. Today while trying to transfer a ringtone from my old phone via bluetooth, my phone restarted and stalled during the booting. I soft-reset the device and the same thing happened, and again a third time. After which I decided to bite the bullet and do a hard-reset. After the reset the phone goes even less into the boot screen (the rainbow icon does not appear like it did before) then the screen goes dim and the device shuts off. I have called tech support at tmo to no avail, I have also tried going into bootloader mode with no response. the battery was at 60% when this started so i know this isn't a power issue.
any thoughts, input or help on this matter will be greatly appreciated.
my safegaurd is to exchange the phone tomorrow, but this is a last resort.
EXCHANGE IT! Dont wait till its too late. Just get a new one. You weren't even doing anything that would normally cause this type of result. You have nothing to loose by exchanging it, other than a little time, any data on the phone is gone anyways.
You sure you did a hard reset? I don't mean to be a jerk, and I'm not saying you don't know what your doing I am simply suggesting that you double check. Make sure you get to the black "press send to format storage, any other key to exit" and press "SEND" =)
Hope you get back up and running soon; Lew
Swap it. You weren't doing anything that could have led to YOU "bricking" it.
yesterday my tytn2 started to act crazy, i didn't drop it or installed any new software.
the screen started to turn on on his own, front buttons stopped working accept the center button witch now opens the start menu.
when i open the keyboard the fn light is on and the keyboard doesn't work.
when i write the sms message trough touchscreen the backspace isn't working so i can't delete misspelled words.
the photo button and power button on left side still working fine.
all the applications work fine, and i can make calls trough touch screen.
i can't make hard reset because front buttons wont respond.
is anybody had similar problems or have the solution.
my guarantee is gone so i hope this is software problem.
Try doing a battery pull and letting your phone sit like that for a minute, put the battery back in, and see what happens...
It sounds like you have water damage to your phone, though. Every take it in the bathroom with you while you shower? The steam in the air is a sure fire way to get water damage, and it will take time to show, but eventually circuits rust and stop working and you end up with a lot of random problems, and usually all of a sudden you have a lot of major problems.
well, i can't remmeber that i had carry it in the bathroom while showering.
i pulled out the battery, waited for about 5 mins and when i put it back nothing has changed. thanks for the tip.
is there a way to do a hard reset without pushing the front buttons?

look in the wiki for a detail of all the ways you can perform a hard reset (i believe there are at least THREE ways)
METHOD 1: the one you are looking for (because your buttons don't work) can be triggered by going to Settings->System->Clear Storage (assuming your phone still boots up and the touchscreen is usable)
METHOD 2: when the phone is POWERED OFF:
1. stick the stylus in the soft reset hole and hold it there
2. hold down the two soft keys
3. press the power button
if you try METHOD 2 and if it works, then you can safely assume that your soft keys are working and that it is indeed a software issue.
i used METHOD 1 and did a hard reset.
nothing has changed, front buttons and keyboard still refuses to work.
unfortunatly it seems it is a hardwer problem so i'm going to take it to the service.
thank you for helping me.
Hey, I have been given a phone off a friend to fix but it wont turn on. Booting normally, I get a vibration and then the backlight comes on but i cannot see anything. When i try to boot into the bootloader by holding the camera button and powering it on, the backlight comes on but nothing else. I cannot see the bootloader. Under both circumstances, I cannot turn the phone off. I have to pull the battery to turn it off.
Does anyone have any suggestions about a possible fix? Thanks
Havie you tried send when trying to enter bootloader? If it resets then you can still get to bootloader. If not, your friend has soft bricked and only way is to JTAG which takes strong hardware knowledge and steady hands.

ok im having the exact same problem. actually i thought it was a battery problem so i spent 77$ on a 3700 mAh new batter i guess tripple life... and got it yesterday booted gave same problems. black screen where T-Mobile should be yet the rom loads with scribble screen meaning u see part but it looks like the pixels are messed up. so actually decided to resort to what someone told me a Factory Reset so Pressing Camera + Power i got a Black Backlight screen yet wont show... and I cant turn it off without Taking out the Battery this has become a issue after installing cyanogen 5.0.7 T5... since then i Re-rom'd to superbad 1.2.5 same problem screen scribbles and stops im thinking did I fry it i dont even know how to google my problem because its pretty unique it isnt a battery issue its something in the hardware ... or am I wrong please send us some feedback... ill keep this thread in mind
Sorry, what do you mean by 'send'. I am a complete noob when it comes to G1's. I have worked out i can shut off the phone by holding call + menu + end but thats it. I still cannot see anything at all on the screen. I still only get a vibration on boot. How would I know if the boot has been sucessful but i simply cannot see?
Could the flex ribbon cable be nackered?
I had an HD7 that was working. I sold it on ebay and the buyer told me it wasn't working when he received it. He shipped it back and it was broken.
So... now I'm looking to either fix it or sell it to somebody. The phone itself is perfect condition with no scratches. Even has a screen protector.
The issue is that it won't boot up. When you turn it on it just keeps restarting and never gets to the home screen.
I would like to sell it for $150 but if there is a simple fix to the problem I'm willing to try it. I don't know anything about WP7 and I've never done any modding, hacking or whatever it's called.
Any help is much appreciated!
You try a restore?
Plug it in see what happens?
Try this,
Turn the phone off. You might have to pull the battery for a minute.
While holding down both of the volume buttons (up and down) press the power button momemtarily. Continue to to hold the volume buttons until the factory reset screen appears.
Follow the onscreen instructions and you are all set.
Thanks!
That fixed it! Thanks so much for the quick reply. I was about to throw the phone on eBay for $10.
Glad I can help!
Maybe not...
I thought it was fixed. It turns on and I can use it but the battery won't charge. I left it plugged in all night and the battery was still barely charged in the morning. It could be a battery issue but the phone also does weird stuff like rebooting every few minutes while the phone is plugged in to charge.
Did you get that fixed?

I'll take it off your hands...
Hey everybody, I have been using a refurb I9000 for over a year now. After a year of being knocked about, it's still a great phone. I'm running Slim Bean on it at the moment and its handling it great
Unfortunately, a couple months back, the power button stopped working. The phone was acting weird one weekend and stuck in a bootloop - think some water got in it on a night out. Took it apart and stuck it in a bowl for a week, which fixed it and it's been working fine ever since except for the power button.
The button works if you press it repeatedly for like quarter of an hour, but I'm scared I'm wearing it down even more by doing that. Without that button, I can't switch my phone on or do the 3-finger salute.
Right now, if I want to reboot or go into recovery mode, I have to use the buttons in the notification bar. If it runs out of battery, when I plug it in I can still get into download mode by holding the menu button + volume down. To get it into normal mode I have to plug it into a computer with Heimdall installed and get it to print diagnostics 'print-pit), which makes the phone reboot out of download mode into a normal boot. It's not an ideal solution!
When my phone dies when I'm on the road, I'm phoneless for several days.
I'm pretty confident I've voided my warranty on this phone loong ago, plus trying to get a replacement is the easy way out
I've seen custom 'battery charge mode' firmware out there- you know the screen you get when the phone is switched off and you plug it into a charger? Somebody had written a custom one of those screens with extra useful information on it. I can't remember what it was called though! Google hasn't been useful at all in finding it, either. I've also noticed the charging screen looks different on my Slim Bean ROM compared to the stock one. So it must be something that's fairly easy to customize...
With that in mind, I might try hacking the charge screen to listen to the menu + volume control buttons and be able to boot the phone that way.
Either that or I make a USB jig that can send enough bits to the phone in download mode to get it to reboot...
But as I'm only good at breaking hardware, I think I'll stick to software hacking for now.
Does anyone know the name of that custom battery charging screen I mentioned? Maybe there's more than one? If I can get ahold of them I can hopefully find out how they work.
This is a pretty specific + techy question, so apologies mods if this is in the wrong section! I don't think I'm allowed to make threads in the Android dev. forums yet though- you need to have over a certain number of posts for that, right?
