THE MAIN PROBLEM IS AFTER THE NEXT PARAGRAPH
All my problems started when i downloaded an application that was supposed to turn off the lock screen on my phone. After restarting the phone i realized that withour the lock screen it cant start. And so my journey began. As most posts are about the i9000 not the i9000m, it was incredibly difficult to figure out how to do a hard reset, which sucked. After that i figured, hey, why not update to 2.2? I did, using a rom called macnut r12. It didnt work, it would not let me use my sim card for 3g, calling or texting. I tried to reset my phone and it wouldnt work. So what i did was...
I tried to put 2.1 back on my phone, and ended up putting the i9000 version on, not the i9000m version. It's not that bad, except its missing a page of stock applications, wont let me use my 3g for some reason, and i just dont trust it. Does anybody know how to help me? I realize that if i send it in they will probably remove my warrenty and ill be double f***ed.
I used ordin3 v10 btw, so i could fix it with a pit, pda, and phone file.
*edit*
i might have found the solution! when i origionally flashed it i made a recovery using clockworkmods free app. Im going to install it and try to recover!
Personally I would flash this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845558
if your just looking to get a stock rom thats 2.2 made specifically for the i9000M.
As far as your 3g not connecting , your APN settings are most likly blank. You would have to fill them in manually.
Thanks
Im downloading the files now. If there is still a problem with 3g i will google it lol, but i also typed some code in the dialer and it said network data is blocked (or something along those lines)
...later...
I got it!! now i need to fill out the acsess point name? oh well, one step at a time, i guess.
Worst case scenario, i can just use rom manager to restore 2.1 from a backup (no, im not a moron, all the other firmwares wouldnt let me download it for some reason
i got it!
Its finally over! i got 3g again, thanks bell!
for anyone with the same problem go to settings/wireless and network/mobile networks/access point names menu, new, the first field put in bell and in the second one put inet.bell.ca.

LOL good job!! Although, if you had done a bunch of reading you would have found there are LOTS of information on here for fixing your problem (with the lost APN settings, and lost of internet) and you likely would have saved yourself some stress. lol if all else fails, download and re-install the stock JH2 rom (that came with your phone) and flash it 'usually' works for me!

Glad you got it working again. Just an FYI, that ROM you flashed 'macnut r12' is for the US Vibrant, not the Bell Vibrant. Our phones are more akin to the international version. You need to stick with i9000 ROMs in the future, not from the Vibrant forum.
Glad you got it sorted out.

I have a verizon touch pro 2 that is running on tmobile network. I have the mighty rom and the arcsoft cab but I do not know the setting to set it back right. When we first did this we had it set and the mms worked perfect. Then the phone reset to verizon some how. When I set it back to tmobile the mms setting were messed up. Does anyone know what I need to set the phone to. A guy did all the work and now I am having trouble getting the info from him so I have to figure this out alone.
Thanks
I had a similar problem. I got the phone unlocked but I never had the settings. It took forever but I eventually by luck got the right exact settings I needed. I have a sprint TP2 with Tmobile service. I dunno if the phone will matter but it should work. Here is the link to the post and follow the instructions for the settings that someone posted for me. It work and Im grateful.

I just tried the setting in there. I have to go to work so I will post back tonight if it worked or not.
ok. lets hope it does
So far no. Now it is saying that it "Dialed epc.tmobile.com can not connect for an unknown reason. "
I also tried wap.voicestream.com and the same thing. I need help it wont connect.
it also will not let me connect to anything data so it seems to be my data connection causing this problem
it says that for me sometimes too, but mines work anyways. did u do the same data(T-Mobile Data) for both internet and private (when it says "programs that automatically connect to"). Both should be the same exact setting. After u do the whole process for internet just pick T-Mobile Data in the drop down for Private cause it has the information u just configured.
I did do that. And I had nothing. BUT this morning it worked. I did nothing diff from lastnight. It just started to work and has worked all day. I do not know what or why it all of a sudden worked. Oh well it works now.
Thank you for your help.
No problem . Your very much welcome.
Hello ladies & gents,
First time poster, I used the search tool and read the forum rules so I hope I'm in the right Q&A subforum (please don't stone me!)
Long story short: my girlfriend had a horrible Windows phone that would lag and crash constantly. In comes a friend who had a barely used Samsung Captivate i896 that's accumulating dust so she gives it to us! Awesome! The phone is locked and being the more tech savvy of the two I embark on this journey to Mordor to unlock it using the 1-click unlock tool. I didn't think it had worked and called the mission a failure when a few hours later she tells me that her phone is working. I felt pretty awesome thinking I had done it right after all.
Anyway, after using the phone for a few hours she notices that phone calls don't work. She can call and receive the call but as soon as the line picks up all you hear on the line is noise. She can use MMS and 3G but the phone calls are all jarbbled. What's really odd is that for a while calls DID work but stopped suddenly.
Now I might have screwed things up even more... I did a factory reboot on it but the problem persists and I have no clue where to go from here. My initial plan was to replace the nv_data.bin file with a backup but the SD card on the phone is blank aside from the stock folders so there's nothing to replace.
How do I go about troubleshooting this? I can't find any forum entries related to noise :-/ Should I be looking into flashing the device back to some sort of stock ROM or does someone have an idea what is wrong? I'm just shooting in the dark right now.
Any help is really appreciated, I'm not very experienced with doing this type of stuff on phones and now my gf is sad that I broke her new-to-her toy! I just really hope I haven't bricked it.
Note: I had originally posted this in the wrong subforum so I reported the one to be deleted and reposted here. Sorry if this is bad form.
Just a couple of questions..What service provider was it with and what is it now? Are the APN (access point names) correct for the provider you're currently using?
The phone was locked with Rogers and my girlfriend is on the Bell network.
I'm not sure if the APN is correct, I would have to double check. I'll google it right away.
Edit: After double checking the values I found on a few of Bell's website I can confirm that the APN was setup correctly.
Second edit: Here's what she has configured on her phone:
Name: Bell Internet
APN: pda.bell.ca
Proxy: web.wireless.bell.ca
Port: 80
MMSC: htNOT-A-LINKtp://mms.bell.ca/mms/wapenc
MMS proxy: web.wireless.bell.ca
MMS port: 80
MCC: 302
MNC: 610
APN type: Internet + mms
Authentication Type: none
(sorry, had to break the link because the anti spam is blocking it)
Sorry for double posting, I had edited my previous post and I'm just worried it wouldn't be flagged as having new info so I'll put this new information in a new post.
Anyway, after a bit more research turns out the IMEI number is different than it used to be (my gf had written it down when she was looking into having it unlocked with one of those online services). Anyway we found a thread that has had a similar issue (htt/[SORRY-FOR-POSTING-A-LINK]p:/samsunggalaxysforums.com/showthread.php/5252-My-IMEI-number-has-changed!!!)... thankfully I pasted the EFS folder on her desktop but I just hope it's not corrupted because I don't know if I have the original nv_data.bin file from before I tried unlocking it.
*fingers crossed*
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881162
Not sure if this will help but it just might lead you in the right direction
Thank you jeeper11. This seems very elaborate so we will have to try this sometime during the weekend if restoring the nv_data.bin file doesn't fix it. You have a given us a much clearer direction
So we tried the guides linked there but it didn't work. The IMEI number is 004999015........./02 which from what I can tell is a generic IMEI that basically means it's broken.
I tried editing the hex values in the nv_data.bin file to match the ones in the guide linked previously but that only changed my IMEI to null/null so that's not good either.
That being said, we had written down the original IMEI number before starting this whole process but I don't have the original EFS folder (long story short, I think I mistakenly overwrote the backup folder with a copy of what I thought was the original one). So, knowing the original number, is it possible to restore it or do I have to rely on an online service that says they can fix any bricked phones (sounds a little shady but a gamble might be worth it considering I now have a very pretty and expensive paper weight).
Oh and the phone's model number is the I896, many of the guides mention the I897 so I don't know if that could be why it wasn't working. Just thought it might be worth mentioning. Thanks again for the help.
whoh! stop
ok. first what one click unlock tool specifically did you use? there are quite a few.
rogers locked captivates 896 DO NOT have the unlock code "stored in them" so only some tools work, and work by modifying the NV_Data.bin. your IMEI should NOT change.
ALL apps that modify your NVdata.bin will have a step where you backup the NVdata before modifying. some apps have the option to restore the backup. some you must restore manually. YOUR FACTORY RESET MAY HAVE ERASED IT.
this is why you should slow down and read before proceding. sound issues have nothing to do with nvdatabin
NVData.bin only controls the phones identity.
sound issues are related to modem. whole other part of the system. and super easy to change modems..

Yup, this. Copy the APN information down, then just set it up manually if the app doesn't work.
If you don't have a LTE SIM card....usually has a 2 or 5 in the 9th or
10th digit and is sku 73057...and an LTE data plan you can add a second APN Setting and it will work with ICS...you will get 2g,3g, HSPA+, voice and text...but no LTE....
Please reply back if you need settings for it.....

I've had straight talk for a week now, mms was working fine until yesterday just quit working, tried a million different settings and still nothing. Thought it might of been the juicedefender app I was using, I deleted but it didn't change anything. if anyone has any suggestions that would be amazing.
When I get a picture i click to download, it attempts and than says download failed.
I'm running holics rom ICS 4.0
thanks
I have having a lot of trouble getting data and mms working on my stock vivid with ICS 4.0.3 on the straight talk network (ATT)
I have tried the standard straight talk settings from their website and probably about a dozen found via the web but none have worked.
Anyone know the secret for the vivid?

Try to get apn settings from the operator and confirm with them maybe through customer care or something.Sometimes backing up apn settings before flashing rom can be useful

Trouble with my Lenovo K3 Note... Can ANYONE help me? Pleeease! Thanks in advance!
Hello, all! I am new to the site and have taken a few minutes to look around a little, and I must say... I'm super excited to get to interact with you all! I love learning new things and meeting new people who have some intelligence about them. I love phones [Android, of course!], and just about anything technical, however, I am new to all of the developers stuff but sooo looking forward to learning everything! I'm a quick learner and can usually so something after seeing it once, or being explained something once. Anyway, I'm sure you all are thinking "Get to the issue, woman!" (then again, you're probably not even thinking that lol). I'm here hoping and praying that I can get somewhere with my Lenovo K3 Note. I recently bought this phone form a guy who had it for about a month until his company provided him with a company phone, therefore he didn't need t any longer. I was stoked about getting the phone, it really looked like an awesome phone! Well, the guy I bought the phone from is obviously a tech guy as well because he was rooted the phone and put a stock ROM on the phone (I think I said that right?). I am with Straight Talk for my service, and while I've finally got my text message to work, no matter what I do with the APN settings (on a T-Mobile SIM), I'm not getting any internet or MMS. Can anyone help me, please?! I am sooo lost right now, and it's been two days that I've been working on this phone, hoping I can get it to work. I really, REALLY like this phone, and don't want to have to get another one. If anyone could please help me, I would be forever indebted! Seriously, I would be so grateful for any/all help! Thanks so much in advance, everyone!
I don't know that I can help you since I have no knowledge of T-Mobile or Straight Talk, but before anyone will be able to help you we need to know what ROM you are running. Go to 'Settings->About phone->Device information' and tell us what the Build number is.

Thank you so much for your response! I am not actually a T-Mobile customer, I am actually a Straight Talk customer, however, using a T-Mobile SIM card. I have set, reset, and reset my APN setting at least sixty-eight thousand times at this point (okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a tad bit, but it seems like it's been that many times lol), but it doesn't fix anything. Hopefully, talking with all of you (people who actually possess intelligence), I will get this worked out. I am far more confident in everyone on this site versus Straight Talk customer Service! Yes, I have previously taken thee steps, and still a no go. It's definitely not the apn settings causing this because it shows on Straight Talks end that everything is in working order. They are sending me out a new SIM card, and going to try that. I honestly doubt that is the problem, but who knows? It's worth a try, I guess. I think it's some sort of setting or something from where the guy rooted my phone that is preventing the phone from being able to use it's data. I wish I were more educated on phone ROM's, Modems, etc... I haven't had the time to just yet, but I am most definitely going to educate myself more on this. Hopefully, I am able to figure out how to fix this, either on my own, or with help of someone from this site (which btw is freaking AWESOME!)!! Thanks, again, for your response, I greatly appreciate any/all help offered!

Obvious suggestion: you're certain you have data turned on, right? I ask only because I find it far to easy to accidental change those toggle switches... fat fingers and touch screens are a bad combination.
Have you tried enabling data roaming? I had a phone that always thought I was roaming, so I needed to enable data roaming if I wanted data to work.

Yep! I have data enabled, however, I've accidentally bricked my phone, so I've moved on from this problem to a bigger one! lol I'm currently working on that as we speak.
Actually, I bricked my Samsung N8000 tablet too but got it working again.
Hopefully, it happens for you too.
Once its un-bricked, just download and flash the Official Stock ROM. Mine is an Indian version which is ROW (Rest Of World) ROM. Yours could be the K50-T5 and might be having a different Stock ROM.
Its better to start off with stock to fix those issues.
Merry Christmas!
