[Q] samsung service centre uk sending a sgs in.. - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What's the usual procedure?do they ask for receipt of the phone as i bought the phone used? The phone seems completely bricked now?
If they accept it,what's the turn around times like?
Any responses appreciated

They need proof of purchase when i queried about a blue tint in my screen. Im assuming thats all they would need really.
Are you sure its bricked? Can you get into download mode? If so you can probably flash a ROM with ODIN.

I just use the serial number in the phone, never ask for anything else.

BRICKED Diamond, where to send for repair? PLEASE HELP

I live in Australia, and have a Telstra branded Diamond, although it is unlocked ( i use Optus Sim card) anyways i was hoping to install unbranded cooked rom found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=422417
I didn't know I needed to install HardSPL, i tried but it failed so i continued on (i know I'm retarded) so i tried using the Diamond Unlocker.
I hit Next, Next, Next until it got to progress bar it stayed on 0% then jumped to 100% and said that my device wasn't compatible or something like that, at that point the image on the diamond faded to black screen. I This happened when i tried Hardspl but i just hit reset and it turned back on alright.....this time it didn't, it doesn't react to the power button at all, iv tried hitting the reset button, booting into boot loader even though I'm pretty sure it doesn't have one, and tried MTTY which I'm pretty sure it pointless because my diamond doesn't turn on.
Please share any knowledge or ideas you have on how i can fix my Diamond, or where i can send it to be repaired (I have no warranty with Telstra by the way)
Is my diamond bricked for life?
EDIT: In the hope that my Diamond will return to life by holding the power button, i have noticed i can still feel the vibration it usually makes when turning it on although NO DISPLAY

Thats the only problem, i have already thought of this, although i don't have proof of purchase anymore, can i still get it repaired without proof of purchase?
ANY Replies or ideas are appreciated, please HELP
I would contact them without a receipt you may have to pay for the repair
but I don't see why they should not make money of you repairing your broken device
Thanks for the reply, my question is, i bought this phone off a friend and knowing him he got it from someone else who probably has stolen it, so if i take it in for repairs and it is stolen I'm screwed....right?.....are they able to I.D a stolen device?
Thats what you get when you buy a stolen device. You'll pay it back one way another.
I guess but for $250 who wouldnt take it. I guess i should have read ALOT more instead of rushing a flash. So last question, does anyone know if its physically possible to fix the phone, if it be replacing a bit or get a technician to hardwire or something......is it possible? or am i stuck with a nice new paperweight?

I think its a case of what goes around, comes around.
Hey
I have a similar problem. But mine is bought and original and I have a receipt. Anyways, there's no way around the sending, is there? Because, I think, it'll take a lot of time and regarding the fact, that the mistake is on my side, the warranty is void, isn't it?

Desperate, flashed captivate firmware on galaxy i9000m

So as the thread title state, i flashed with one click odin for captivate my i9000m unlocked phone. But i'm not (well i am definately) dumb enough to just do it out of the blue. It started when i updated my jh2 to jp6/jpm through kies registry hack. then rooted then oclf. Everything worked fine until i started moving apps to sd. I rebooted and i only had a bootloop... Got into download mode, flashed 1000 firmwares, tried every combination, etc. Finally found out that my /sdcard was corrupted and couldn't properly flash a firmware since the filesystem wasn't efs anymore. So i seen the odin one click for captivate with the big MASTER CLEAR, which i though (i damn myself for thinking so...) it may return my partition to rfs and that i could easily flash another firmware then...
So now i am stuck with a "bricked" bell i9000m with the at&t logo booting in loop and can't access recovery or download mode (think the flash may have remapped the buttons?) and when i plug usb it turns off.
So, here are my 2 questions,
1- is there a way (other than jtag, can't afford one and not really good at this stuff) to change at least the boot logo/bootloader or unbrick it?
2- Would there be a way to send it back to samsung (would obviously not accept it as it is...) any chance to physically format everything on the chip?
Please, ANY help would be greatly appreciated
THANK YOU VERY MUCH
PS: sorry if it is not in the good section
1. JTAG is your best shot, and you don't have to get one yourself. Coz some shops got RIFFBOX for JTAG and now it do support I9000. Rumors said you MAY get into download mode if you try 3 button mode many many times...
2. You can TRY giving it into a samsung service centre and hope they can repair it for you. They seems to have some other way to write a bootloader through USB even when the original bootloaders are dead.
For the JTAG, anyone around quebec city (or may ship in canada?) Also, is the 3 mode button would be the same or switched for recovery? (if we can actually get in download mode in such state).
Thanks
On the website of RIFFBOX, I can only find one in Toronto
I have no idea about the 3 button trick also, some say it is same as I9000 one and some say it is Captivate one (Vol up, Vol down and power)
I did the same stupid mistake and I have to send the phone back to samsung for a board change...
Does samsung really accept bell gt i9000m which only reboot with a at&t logo (i think it definately void your warranty)? :S
I had almost the same problem. Flash JM8 first with 502 pit and reparition, then do JM6 without reparition and 802 pit.

Can't get it to detect with pc, it just bootloop all the time...
So you can't get it into download mode for odin?
no, no download mode, if i plug usb, it just shutdown...
samsung itself accept it
and say it is out of warranty and will charge 500 bucks for it
i got the unit replaced with other reason though
but seems service centre and repair centre are two things and repair centre can do tue same trick, but you will have to ask samsung for the address
someone suggested in another thread that if you jump two pins of the usb connector with a 5k resistor, it would boot it into download mode...........but it was only suggested, and no one has confirmed it. probably dangerous, but if your phone is being sent in anyways, might as well?

Do you mean (i'm still on the warranty) that since the phone is bricked, THEY say it is out of warranty and make me pay (500$, the price i paid for the phone) to have it repaired, or did you meant that IF i was not on the warranty anymore (i still have receipt, etc), then they would charge me?
And if i want it repaired, i should probably contact repair service directly or service center?
Also, as for the resistor part, would you have the thread somewhere? (post or pm?) would maybe also check a howto since i am not quite the resistor guy...
Thank you very much
whom ever you talked to at the store, they were just being some arses
in Tonronto you got to most Bell stores they will fix it or send it to the repair center under warranty as long as you have the receipt, from Bell or bell partners stores
if you do not have a receipt you will need to talk to samsung canada and get them to tell you their local authorized NON Bell repair center, then you can go there and have it fixed
and they will definitely not charge you $500, average cost is anything from Free, to $45, to $75 or more depending on what they need to repair if any hardware part at all

Hi, thank you for your answer, i didn't contacted the store i bought it from yet (lasource/thesource). So you say i could only walk in with the box, bricked galaxy and the receipt and they would send it for repair? (even if they check and see it boot with the at&t logo?) and if they only ask what is the problem, what could i say? it only reboot or should i precise it reboot with a at&t logo? (and if they ask me how it happened? :S) Just want to know what i should say and not to avoid voiding my warranty. (also, i should avoid bell center but lasource/thesource which is only a reseller should be ok?)
Thank you very much

In my case
As there's no repair centre in Hong Kong, I have to go to samsung directly
And Samsung Hong Kong is famous for terrible after service
They say it is my own problem and will not try any way to reflash even there's a way to do it as the warranty doesn't cover this problem.
The only choice they give me is to pay about 500USD to change the board.
That's what likely happen if you send it to Samsung...you might get your warranty voided as well...
Well, guess i will send it to samsung directly... (anyone know if they will honor the warranty even if it boot only with a at&t logo?) also, could someone please send/share the link where someone put a resistor on the cable to supposedly go directly in download mode?
Thank you very much

Im trying this but I jus tget to the revovery screen, i chose `FormatInternal`
didnt work
and if i restart phone it actually goes to galaxy s logo then just goes black
Bricked my SGS with Captivate ROM too.
Any joy with this problem, sackofnoise?
Following a failed official Kies update to Froyo, I too (stupidly) used the one click flash Odin not realising that it would brick my phone. Like you, I can't get into download or recovery mode - tried every key combination you can think of. Also plugging in a USB lead shuts the phone down in about 2 seconds and also even prevents charging.
Taking it back or sending it to a service centre is not an option. It boots to an AT&T screen and even boots up to android - although it's no use like this, because it will not allow me to recharge the battery because of the USB problem.
Any ideas please. Flashed stock and custom ROMS to phones for years but never been stuck like this before.

Get into download mode, THEN plug in USB. I had the same problem when I installed a tmobile vibrant kernel by accident.
EDIT: Well you sent your phone in. Let's all hope for the best.

[Q] return rooted/bricked captivate?

I've recently soft bricked my phone from an odin3 fail and have attempted every download mode button combo I could find after searching the forum for a couple days now...
The thing is I tried to run odin and upon rebooting the phone it wouldn't load anything past the 'world phone' screen or the battery screen when plugged in.
Tried everything: button combos for download mode, made a 300k jig (thinking about making a 301k jig), and more endless button combos to force a download mode.
I've just about given up and wish to exchange my phone for another one from wal-mart.
I've only had the phone for two weeks and am still within the 30-day return date.
**********************************************************
STRAIGHT TO THE POINT:
Will they accept my phone for an exchange even tho it's been rooted and the warranty has been 'voided'?
**********************************************************
Also I've attemped to unlock the phone (but didn't) cuz i couldn't get a hold of another carrier's sim card but i downloaded the app and got the unlock code for my phone which i'm still sure voided the warrenty anyway.
just another reason i think it would hinder my exchanging the phone w/o being charged $300 for a brand new captivate
You'll probably get a replacement phone right away since AT&T DSCs don't check for root when they issue a replacement. However, phones do get sent back to Samsung and I've read stores about people getting charged on their AT&T bill months later because their phone's warranty was voided due to root/ROM flashing.
I honestly think there's something wrong with your JIG. If you are seeing the World Phone screen, that's always been sign for me that a JIG could get a phone into DL mode. If you're using the instructions from that .99 cent JIG thread, I wouldn't be surprised if you aren't hitting pins 4&5 for the required length of time, or putting ~300kohm of resistance between the pins. At the very least, I'd recommend you get a MicroUSB plug head to chop up, and attach your resistors to.
if you have a 1008 model you can NOT boot into download mode with buttons! This same thing happened to me when i failed an odin flash and had to return the phone.
They said they never saw the error and gave me a new phone immediately.
1007 model can not be bricked since you can always boot into download mode.

This is something to watch for. If u r returning a phone after messing it up, atleast wipe any info that could inform u r messing. AT&T is courteous enough to give a replacement, but replacements do go to the phone company. And they may not be in a mood to honor 'warranty voided' phones.

I figured that would be the case.
Well i guess that means i'll be spending the next couple days(hopefully not) trying to jig my phone. shaky hands and poor pin visibility aren't usually a plus
Question about jigging
Do i need to take my battery out and put it back in every time i reattempt to jig my phone?

Or, you could go get a MicroUSB plug
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841512
You also don't need to remove battery every time you try to use the JIG. The phone just needs to be off.

Your phone's batch # is on a sticker UNDER the battery. You're looking for 4 digits, like 1006, 1007, 1008, 1010, 1012, etc.
*Update*
Well after hours of attempting to jig my captivate myself i'm calling it quits and ordering a usbMicro breakout board. I got the idea from:

hopefully once this gets in i'll have better luck.

[Q] Dead Note

I fear for my note!!
When it booted yesterday it wouldn't go past the Galaxy Note GT-N7000 screen. I took the battery out and tried it a few times, same problem.
I eventually managed to get into recovery. I could navigate around but whenever I tried to do anything I seemed to get errors or be unable to access files. I tried reflashing the ROM (Cassies extralite v6) and it started but locked up.
I now can't get any response whatsoever from the phone. No display at all. I've tried a spare fully charged battery, I've tried plugging it in, nothing.
Is there hope? where should I go from here?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Tim.
Try connecting your charger(though you have a fully charged battery) and see if the display lights up.If it does try to get into DL mode and flash a rom
IF it doesnt light up try usb jig.It should probably get your phone into DL mode.If this also fails your last hope would a JTAG recovery
Thanks for the fast reply. I've tried plugging in the charger, still no response.
Can the usb jig work if I have no response at all from the phone. And could you link me to the JTAG recovery process for the note?

Jig is supposed to force your phone into DL mode when other methods fail. You can surely try it.AFAIK JTAG method involves disassembling your phone and it requires special hardware to establish communication with your phone and computer. It aslo requires soldering skills.
Now don get stressed on reading it.First try the jig method it will and must help you.Lets hope for best results.
I bought a jig on ebay (I know I could make one, but they're only $3 and I'll know its right). Can anyone confirm whether there is any possibility they jig can get my phone working if I am getting nothing at all from the phone as is. There is no sign of life, none at all. The fact that there are no LEDs means I can't even tell if its charging when plugged in.
Have many people had hardware failure on the note? Is it possible the ROMS corrupted and that has caused no response? Everywhere I google even bricked notes seem to have something come up on the screen.
Please help!
I had the same issue after updating my stock unrooted phone via Kies.. Phone died after samsung white letters and after that no lights no dl mode no recovery.. Didn't have a jig to try so I send it to service center they changed the board.. So if you can wait for the jig order it and try it out few bucks wasted if it don't work but I hope it will, but so GLÜCKLICHES mate

Thanks for the reply Braxos. Where did you send it back to? I'm in Australia but I bought the phone online from Hong Kong. Has anyone had experience sending stuff back to Samsung Hong Kong? Or am I better to try somewhere like the mobile tech video sites jtag brick repair service? (I'm not allowed to link to it)

Bricked phone

Hey guys. Im from the Galaxy Note II side but my friend has this phone and just bricked it somehow. He isnt able to turn it on anymore and access download mode. Is there any comeback for a hardbrick?! Anywhere he can send the phone to get it fixed? Please let me know. Thanks in advance
Samsung Galaxy Note® II
Is there no sign of life at all ?? If not, you could try a USB JIG (available for pennys on Ebay) which will force the phone into download mode and allow you to re-partition the device to recover from the brick....BUT you will lose memory, anything upto 3gb.
Or... If the phone has warranty then send it off to Samsung to repair, They deny all knowledge of the brick-bug, but they happily replace motherboards on bricked Notes (stupid i know !)
Or, as a last resort, Claim on insurance policy of you have it.
First of all make sure you have tried with a confirmed charged battery. if still there is no life, you will have to send it off to samsung
